Quote:How does a "hex bolt" vary visually from a Neutrino Bolt or half of the powers in Energy Blast (recolored, if you wish)? Is it all in the gestures? Do you want to throw up The Horns like a certain Sorcerer Supreme (who is really just a gifted surgeon, and nothing more)?I mean like a hex bolt blaster set. I know we have all these different powers, so maybe magical type animations for these. The look is the same for all AT types, I was saying magic it up, so have magical things in the animations, or a set, of course if one could be built. Sheesh. So much sarcasm so close to Christmas, bah humbug to all of you, lol.
If I play this game, and still read comics at my age, then I have an imagination. Trust me on this. A powerset may not be the way to go, but alternate animations would be good.
The awesome thing about CoH, especially now that we have customization, is that many of the stock powersets can be used to represent almost any power you like. That guy shooting fire out of his hands - is he a powerful wizard, initiated in the Seven Mysteries of the Leaping Flame? A mutant, both gifted and cursed with pyrokinesis that responds to their emotional state? A hapless lab tech or bystander who was doused with an experimental compound and set on (surprisingly harmless) fire? A martial artist whose heroic spirit and Hot Blood allow him to not only manifest his chi visibly, but hurl it at his foes? (HADOKEN!) A techie with wrist-mounted flamethrowers? -
Quote:Yeah, that's kind of the impression I'm getting from the TFs themselves and the responses here.If you aren't someone who plays with people who can walk all over a STF or LRSF, then it's entirely possible that these two new TFs aren't designed with you in mind.
"Sorry, but you just aren't good enough to enjoy the new content, or the content that's likely to follow it. You're not fast enough, skilled enough, and so on. You've muddled through thus far, but at this point you might as well give up. All this cool new stuff? It's not for you."
*sigh* -
Probably, since I wasn't really trying. I was just describing my own experience on my two attempts at Apex. The moment we loaded the second mission, my tank became dead weight.
How's this, then?
"Maybe you enjoy spending a half hour running around the map with taunt on auto, watching the AV's health bar creep down, and occasionally dying because you dodged into someone else's patch that was off-screen a moment ago? Because I sure don't." -
Benchpresser:
So you figured out how to avoid the patches. Great. How much were you able to actually contribute to the TF after that? Or were you just a warm body, or even a "leech"?
Most of my characters slated to become incarnates are melee. I would like to bring more to the fight than taunts and my Nemesis staff. -
The old Devs didn't want us jousting (mostly in PvP, but also in PvE, once the matter came to light), so they added power suppression.
The new Devs have put in an encounter that requires jousting.
Great. Just great. Thanks, guys.
EDIT, for Casual Player:
You're right, I don't PvP. The twitch reflexes required are actually the smallest part of it - it's more the personalities that tend to be involved - but that's not an insignificant part, to a gamer on the wrong side of 40.
Seeing PvP-like movement in new PvE content is thus a little discouraging for me. Is this what I have to look forward to in the new endgame? Stuff built for all the teen and twentysomething PvPers that ragequit a year ago? -
-
I think the OP has also missed that "all future content for level 50s" would almost certainly require real money to access, at an overall price equal to if not greater than what he's paying in subscription now (especially if he's taking months off between issues).
Want to be able to go to Cimerora and run Imperious' TF? How about Apex's or Tin Mage's? Unlock that Alpha slot? Let's see your credit card. Heck, even dinging 50 (rather than being frozen at 1 xp short) might require a "small additional fee."
You didn't think "F2P" was actually free, did you?
Subscription MMOs have "F2P" too. They're called "trial accounts." That's what you'd get. -
I note that even in CoD, there's "leveling up" - they don't hand you all the guns and scopes and perks right out of the gate, you have to unlock them by rising in rank. Or did you skip that part somehow?
-
Played it through. Decent arc, fit my Warden character just about perfectly. The "
" in the final mission's objectives is a little too cutesy for me.
Have you considered making a custom stand-in for IVy until she's implemented? -
I don't see how you're supposed to tag all the downed cops OR rescue ____ (who, like most escorts, moves at a slow jog and then whines that you've left him behind), let alone both, in the extremely short time limit. Suggestions from those who've actually done it?
-
Very sorry to see you leave. Thank you for everything, and I hope that the new year brings you good things.
-
Too bad.
You want the goodies? You put in the time to earn them, or go without.
"I want everything, right now, for free" is an absurd thing to ask for. -
Too many of the current comedic DC arcs are from "celebrity" guest authors whose humor does not necessarily transfer well to the medium of AE. And there are some who've never found Scott Kurtz' LOLBAT or Rooster Teeth's Captain Awesome, to name two examples, particularly funny.
(With regard to the latter, I remember when the first of those videos came out, the consensus in my circle was "NCSoft actually paid for this?") -
That deaf dumb and blind kid
Sure plays a mean AE mish. -
Just to complicate matters further, a lot of people feel that much of the stuff written by "the professionals" back in 2003 and 2004 is awful, at least by the standards of 2010 (soon to be 2011).

I'm with Ironik and BackFire on this one.
-
Wildwind says it better than I did/could.

So far, I have extra shards (12) on one character; that's the one I've done the most with post-19, and he already has one Uncommon. I could probably get him started on another, but I'm more likely to just hold onto them and wait for the next level and/or work on my other characters (who are unlocked, but not slotted yet).
-
As I said on another, similar thread:
Only three or four of my characters (currently 16, of which 12 are 50s) are going to be unlocking that content and reaching that next level of power. The rest are "merely" super-powerful beings. Heck, some are just really lucky, well-trained, and/or well-equipped humans with plot armor!
This is mostly a story consideration, but also convenient for me in that I don't have to go through the process on all of them. -
I must admit, one of my characters (a power-hungry brute) probably would take the quick option, thinking (as usual) that he could handle it... only to discover that no, he really can't.
-
IMO, that's what the Arenas should have been. (Selfishly, I want to keep AE for the storytellers.)
Let's hear it for features implemented in a half-***ed manner! -
"I can't even be bothered to find my own farm arc, out of the thousands in the system - can someone just give me one? A really easy one? And maybe push the buttons for me until my toon is 50? kthxbye."
-
"If you can't solo an EB or two, you are NOT, in fact, uber enough to be an Incarnate."
