  1. Aside from my other issues with the market, etc, I find the huge numbers unaesthetic. (Rather like pinball, which suffered from a period of "score inflation", with at least one attempt to re-impose some sanity.) I wish we could just chop a few zeroes off, across the board... but that doesn't scale well to low levels, of course. The endgame is driving everything these days.
  2. Known and unrepentant troll, yup.
  3. IMO, the problem is that Nemesis got overused by the Devs, to the point where he became a joke.

When it seems that he's behind everything, that he's supposed to always be two steps ahead and yet always loses... sure, the idea behind a Xanatos Gambit is that you win no matter what the opposition does, but he can't ever, really, because the players need to win and the game world needs to stay the same. So he becomes ridiculous, absurd, cliche - transformed from a master strategist to a bumbler who's good at spinning his constant defeats. "I meant to do that." "____ was only a setback!" etc.
  4. It is the nature of MMOs to be static, so that every player can have the exact same experience (if they choose). Some see this as a bug, others as a feature, but don't expect it to change.

Even those who might like things to be more dynamic may not care to have events imposed on them/their play-group by the majority vote of strangers. And given the preferences of the larger playerbase, you can pretty much assume that whatever "story" path gives the best rewards will be the path that gets worn into a big muddy road and imposed on everyone else, regardless of what it does to the narrative.
  5. Hooray for everything being highly resistant to S/L.
  6. My first 50 - late 2004 to 2006, 18 months.
With all my alts, it's still common for any given character to take most of a year to get there (if not longer). They do tend to get leveled in cohorts, though, as new expansions come out and new powersets or factions spark new ideas; so at any given time I'll have a couple of 20s or 40s.
    Never farmed, never PLed.
  7. My PB started as two individuals, but they've merged over time (as the bond has grown, the human has gotten over some of his issues, etc) and now they really are mostly one composite being. This was actually a plot point when they started dating someone, as they wanted to make sure she wasn't just seeing/interested in the human. (Turns out she was fascinated by the Kheldian aspects too. The real dealbreaker turned out to be the Catholic "no 'test driving' before marriage" thing...)

To the OP: Welcome to Virtue, I hope you like it here.

In every multi-player online game I've been in, the RP in the gathering spot (usually a bar or a public square) tends to be the most melodramatic and shallow. It's there for when you want an audience for your hijinks or to get your foot in the door and get noticed by other RPers, at which point it's common to form up into a more select playgroup and go off by yourselves (thus, alas, becoming invisible to anyone who isn't in the group). This pattern even applied to some of the LARPs I was on staff for, with the the "adults" sequestering themselves in backrooms for dramatic politicking and leaving everyone else - the "children" - to amuse themselves and act out wildly.

Wow, good advice on RP from Mondo. I don't think anyone was more shocked than I.

I have a tab that's both Local and Emotes, so that nothing gets lost when I log it (except positional stuff, but one hopes that'll be accompanied by at least an emote).
  8. It sounds like what you really want has little or nothing to do with AE, and more with "instant 50s on Test" (for example).
  9. and (some large number) years later, the city outside the AE buildings has fallen into decay and disrepair because no one ever leaves the Matrix. :/
  10. "This is Batman to all points. I could use some air support. Because I can't fly. At all. .... Now would be good."
  11. No. Just no.
If you must, put it in your AE arcs, which I have the option of not doing.

Now you may find it inconceivable or at the very least a bit unlikely that the relative position of the planets and the stars could have a special deep significance or meaning that exclusively applies to only you, but let me give you my assurance that these forecasts and predictions are all based on solid scientific documented evidence so you would have to be some kind of moron not to realize that every single one of them is absolutely true WHERE WAS I?
  13. I share Dragonkat's frustration and fear for the future.
  14. (Not at all binding, but if you're still stuck, consider... DCAU Lex Luthor.)
  15. It's called "roleplaying." Adopting a persona other than your own.
In the unlikely event you ever get tired of simply playing yourself as a righteous and perfect super-Sue, you might give it a try.

  17. Just FYI, TameDragon, there's an option (in the Options menu) to toggle XP on and off. So if you really feel you're leveling too fast, there's a fix for that (aside from deliberately dying a lot to load yourself down with debt, which people used to do in the past).
  18. (( Fine by me; I certainly have no lock on the concept. Amour, what say you? ))

How about less sarcasm and lashing out at the people who've criticized your idea, and better explanations of what you want?

Make Tech more tekkie, make magic more magical and so on, I agree with all of that.
HOW? Different animations? FX like runes or tiny atoms added to the powers, based on the character's origin? Be specific, please, not just "more magical". If you don't know what you mean by that, how are we supposed to?

Also please keep in mind that everything you suggest needs to be optional, as many people have their own concepts and may be perfectly fine with the powers as they are right now, and don't want to be stuck with (say) runes they can't turn off.

Also also, on a technical level, "new powersets" as a way of implementing this is a non-starter. You'd need to multiply the number of sets currently in the game by five, one for each origin. Not going to happen.

The devs have given you the tools - with the costume creator, then with power customization, booster packs(*), combat-only auras, and now with (some) alternate animations, to make your character unique. If that's not enough, then I'm sorry. If anything, your proposal runs the risk of making characters less unique, by putting them in one of five boxes. "You want to be Magic origin? Okay, all of your powers are accompanied by sparkles and unicorns. No, you don't get to turn it off or choose another style. You're Magic, you're sparkly. NEXT!"

*EDIT: Speaking of, have you looked at the Origins Booster Pack? It has a bunch of new auras and FX that might help you customize your character closer to your personal vision.

And all of this while avoiding blue patches.
I can see how that might be aggravating/overload; I haven't tried it with a defender (and probably won't, for other reasons).

On my tank, however, I did exactly what you said - but for me, it wasn't easy and was frustrating. You describe it as "all I had to do", I felt (and still do) that it was all I could do. I wanted to be in there fighting, swinging, helping, not scampering all over the map bleating "look at me" while the rest of the team struggled to put down the AV with whatever quick-animating ranged attacks they could muster. And there wasn't any time in that 30-40? minutes that I could stop - even when I ran into a patch by mistake and died almost instantly (yes, the tank), I had to jump out of the Vanguard med-tube and run back to the battle as fast as I could - except when the whole team wiped and someone called for a regroup on top of the building (which happened a couple times).
  21. Solo or team?

Team = more enemies, more tickets.
  22. Nice ideas, Flarstux (EDIT: and DSorrow. Yes, even the bit about PvP. )

And Furio: I leveled both a (post-Smoke fix) AR/Dev blaster and the FF/Energy defender in my userpic to 50, mostly solo, in the 04-06 timeframe. I've only just this last issue gotten around to making a build for the latter that uses IOs; she was already retired by their introduction. I remember when debt started at level 5, was the same inside missions as outside, and there was no patrol xp to counter it. I also had a controller who had to run across the Hollows to get to his mission doors. So, yeah. I know the way of the (old-style) squishy.

Schismatrix (and JKCarrier): Exactly. I'm sure my friends will be willing to bring me along, even if I contribute nothing of value to the team, but for the sake of my rather fragile self-esteem, I don't want to be (in my words of earlier) dead weight or a "leech."
  23. This turned out great. Love what you've done with the place.

(If you're wondering - yes, Nova's player/writer spoke to me a few days ago. I'm glad and flattered to have been of some inspiration to others. I'm also just a little jealous in that she only has to deal with three zones (four if you count the Underground). )
  24. Thanks very much for posting, Posi. Happy Holidays to you and everyone else in the studio.
