Great post, Reiska. I'd be interested in seeing your suggestion implemented.

And here I thought this thread was going to be "so, we've all agreed to ignore the official backstory of AE, what with sticking our heads into something created by Crey and Dr. Aeon, because that's stupid and/or assumes we are, right?"

Quote:I understand where you're coming from, but frankly, this is one of the main differences (in scope, concept, etc) between single or even multi-player games and massively multiplayer games. Final Boss vs. Endgame Raid. In the former, you get to be THE hero; in the latter, you're A hero. And that's just how it is. *shrug* IMO, you shouldn't go looking for one in the other, or complain that these apples taste nothing like oranges.I just want it to be more personal. In my opinion, a truly epic and memorable battle would be one where you're not just one soldier of 24 or 32 being thrown at the end boss in a massive light show where you can't even tell what's really going on because of all the powers going off everywhere. It just doesn't feel climactic at all.
To bring it back to comics, everyone gets to be The Hero in their own monthly book. In big silly summer event crossovers, you're part of the team or even just a face in the crowd. -
But, but... this is (a game about) comic books! And as any real fan can tell you, comics continuity is serious business!

Tried it on Test. I keep failing combos because I can't seem to hit the arrows right as they light up.

I just hope that no one out there with 8 grand takes this (too) seriously, or we could have a repeat of the infamous "Pepsi Harrier" incident/lawsuit.

and the poor coulrophobes start freaking out just looking at that icon...
(well played, devs. I especially laughed at the Vanity Pet and the "There's Always One" temp power.) -
SSA #1 already has enough happy relationships getting broken up, downer endings despite everything the heroes tried, and/or people shot through the chest to earn the Joss Whedon seal of approval. I would expect no less of an arc officially credited to him.
(Also, Penny Yin, tiny badass. Maybe he'd have her go barefoot.) -
If you'd spent six months working on something, only to have the people you presented it to immediately smash it to bits and use the bits to try to get high, wouldn't you be a little bit upset?

No. You made your choice, you chose to sacrifice travel utility for more power. Even now, you don't want to give up what you took in its place; you want to eat your cake and have it too.

Some "secret" anyway - people open Oro portals right in the middle of Atlas Plaza, and even the newsies seem to know about 'em. I haven't seen such a badly-kept secret since the true nature of the Rikti, known only to those with Omega clearance... or the Malta Group... or the Circle of Thorns... or the Clockwork...
(face it, there are no actual secrets in this game. at best, there are spoilers, and those only for a limited time.) -
Quote:Of course he doesn't, otherwise he'd let them create level 50 characters for PvP right out of the gate rather than play through all that booooooring PvE content. (Fully purpled, too.) Or at least not try to stop them from farming their way past it in a couple of evenings.Suppose this is true. Can you prove that he makes such decisions purely out of spite? Are you paranoid enough to believe that he doesn't like the players, now?
Seriously and FWIW, I didn't realize that Jack also created Psyche. -
Yes, I use globals. No, I don't recolor them. I have tabs for that.
(One tab for each channel in my main chat window, for sending/easy switching and regular reading, and also a tall window that opens on the far right side of my screen, with tabs for Local (+emotes), Team (+emotes), and my most commonly used channels - that one's for reviewing history and following long conversations with less scrolling.) -

I think that what this SSA proved is that CoH can stand right up there with its inspirations in making a half-year-long, poorly written and badly telegraphed marketing stunt in which A Flagship Character Dies And Nothing Will Ever Be The Same, No Really We Mean It. (Bonus points for it getting spoiled in the middle, requiring a hasty attempt to salvage something from the rest.)
Our little game is all grown up and putting out storylines just as big and stupid as Marvel or DC! I'm... I'm so proud. *snif* *wipes at eyes* -
Just a reminder for the players (and perhaps for the current Devs):
We're now just two months away from the tenth anniversary of the start of the Rikti invasion, a very significant event in the history of Paragon City and Primal Earth as a whole. If you intend to make any special observance of this date and/or Memorial Day (it's May 28 this year), now might be a good time to start making plans. -
My recollection is that this has been asked for before, and every time the response has been that it's fundamental to how the character's data is stored on their end. They would literally have to rewrite a very old, very basic part of the game - without breaking anything in the process. This is very, VERY unlikely to happen.
I've rerolled two characters, in their 20s (and this is back when that actually took a couple of weeks' worth of evenings to get), to fix their Origin. I'm sure it'd be even easier now. If the characters in question are old ones with anniversary badges etc that you can't get again... I guess you'll have to decide which bothers you more, not having the badges or not having the "right" Origin. -
My slate of characters includes a Peacebringer (who actually is a Kheldian, unlike some
), a former Sky Raider, a Vahzilok Abomination, a Resistance Heavy Hands, a Wolf Spider Huntsman, and the spirit of Kings Row itself.
On the other hand, I reject and ignore what I feel to be ill-considered, problematic and deeply flawed attempts to explain game mechanics in terms of lore - for me, the Origin of Power arc is as absurd as "midichlorians" (and for many of the same reasons), and trying to pass off the Mission Architect / player-generated content as a public joint venture of Crey and Dr. Aeon, and expecting people who really should know better to use it anyway, strains my disbelief past the breaking point. Finally, while some of my Incarnates are empowered by the Well, others are just that powerful (or have the potential to become so) because of what they are - e.g., the aforementioned spirit of the Row.
EDIT: Looking at the above responses, I'd say I'm pretty much on the same page as Techbot Alpha and others. I try to work within the universe, not the game, because many elements of the latter are nonsensical if taken literally. -
But he is, himself, a wannabe hero, so that's... okay?

Two main goals:
Tier 3 (or better) in Alpha, Lore and Destiny as soon as possible, for the level shifts
Tier 3 (or better) in Judgment -
Eh, I still prefer jwbullfrog's answer back on page 1 ("Don't take incarnate powers.")
