Quote:Most active CoH players want access to global channels - hence it is a desirable feature. Personally I hope that Premium players have access because I think you lose too much without it. Still, in the end, NCSoft wants players to choose VIP over Premium. If a VIP player knows they'll lose global channel access if they let their subscription lapse, then that's one more incentive to keep paying that subscription. Here's the thing, though. How are global channels being open to Premium players really going to take anything from VIP status? I can completely understand gating more content, powersets, costumes, etc., under VIP status, and that's what VIP is going to do. We keep talking about being able to purchase stuff and get it in Premium mode all the time, but the devs don't have to do that for a lot of things, and can even limit that so people want to keep getting VIP status (not to mention the "free" points every month).
Better communication channels for players that are at Premium will make sure they have things to do with other players more easily, enticing them to play content that they hear the others talking about, or to get costumes and things those VIP people have. It also can keep players who need to go Premium for a bit interested in going back to VIP, rather than being annoyed that they can't keep up with things as well, which can easily draw them on to other games.
There's plenty going for making communication easier for non-VIP people... the main thing I can see against it is RMT, but that's an issue no matter what you do, and can be limited with this some by keeping it to Premium and higher for channel usage. -
In the end I hope this ends up bringing in more, not less, money for CoH development - through getting a larger player base, some of which are VIP and some Premiums paying piecemeal. I would imagine that figuring out what to make available in Premium is difficult - give away too many game features and you lose a lot of monthly subscriptions via players thinking VIP is not worth it. Put in too many restrictions, and you won't get enough people willing to play in Premium mode. You want players to have some fun with Premium - enough to keep playing and buying features piecemeal - and also be drawn/tantalized by VIP.
Personally I don't know what is the best thing to do business-wise with global channels. If Premium players don't have access to global channels, they miss out on most of what the active players are doing now; both socially and with organizing activities.
If Premium players can access global channels, then that's one less (big) reason to be VIP.
Maybe like Des said, you'll be able to buy global channel access if you're Premium.
I am curious to see what they decide. -
This is good news. I'm not as concerned about the way it currently works as I was when BAF and Lambda first came out, but, this is still a welcome fix.
-
I still can't believe we had 25 teams. What a great turnout!

I love building systems. I'm on my fourth now (if you count the one I built for FMP). I've gotten 4-5 years out of each one. I usually end up upgrading the video card and doubling the RAM after a couple years, but otherwise they're stable and only end up getting replaced when it's time to move up to a different processor/motherboard architecture. It's not just about getting exactly what you want in your system for usually a better price than what the computer manufacturers can get you. It's also NOT having what you don't want in the system - all that stupid trial software, shareware, support software crap you get with a PC from, say, Dell. I like running with a clean lean and mean system.
I wish it was just as easy to build your own laptop. -

-The Player Event Resource Committee -
The Player Event Resource Committee would like to thank all those who participated in "Memory Lane." We will do our best to get the winners announced in a timely fashion, and we thank you in advance for your patience as there are many entries to read and score! We had a wonderful time designing this contest and watching so many different styles of entries pop up. We hope you enjoyed this contest!
If you have any ideas for future contests, events, etc. please do not hesitate to contact a PERC Representative. -
Just two days left! There have been some great entries so far. Check out threads with the same title in the other servers' sections and in the Player Events section to peruse some of the entries.
I'm looking forward to your seeing yours! -
With that time change I think I can make the event, although I might be a little bit late. I'll send you a tell when I get on. Looking forward to it!
-
This sounds very cool! Is this going to be a weekly recurring event or a one time thing? That's a tough time of day for me to get on reliably. I'd probably be able to make it 1 out of every 3 weekends. You might get more participation at 8 or 9pm EST. That seems to me to be the time when a large portion of the Victory population is logged on.

P.E.R.C. Presents: Memory Lane
April 16th - 30th
What:
Every character has a defining moment in their career; maybe they stopped a powerful Archvillain in their tracks, saved their team from immenient peril, or perhaps they are that cackling villain who constantly stymies the heroes. Do you have such a story to tell? We want to read about it!
P.E.R.C. is looking for stories that show off what you consider your favorite character's crowning achievement. What made that character stand out to you? What daring plan did you pull off (or thwart)? Here's your chance to share the tale and potentially win a prize for your creativity!
When:
Entries will be accepted from April 16th until April 30th.

Ten stories from the top 20 we pick will be randomly selected and awarded a prize. In addition to that, 5 qualifying stories will be picked by the judges and awarded a "Judge's Favorite" prize.

While Flash Fiction is an artform in and of itself, this is a short story contest. The maximum length helps keep entries manageable from a judging standpoint.
3) You may attach a screen shot of your character.
This is optional, but encouraged. As they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words." You may insert the image in your post, or you can e-mail it to us at PERC.COH@GMail.com.
4) Please submit your story in a reply to this post.
5) Prizes will be awarded on North American servers.
The group funding this event is limited to NA servers, and due to current global e-mail restrictions we are only able to award prizes to players also on NA accounts.
If you have any questions about event rules/details, please feel free to contact a P.E.R.C. representative by replying to this thread or sending them a private message.
Good luck, and happy writing! -
Quote:How about getting 8% versus 64%? I've probably said enough about this already, sorry. I just want to point out that it can be more than a 5% difference between teams. Otherwise I wouldn't care either. Those numbers are real numbers I've gotten from BAF runs. There were other factors for those numbers, though, but it wouldn't surprise me to see one team get, say 15% and another team get maybe 40% on the same trial run if the work is divided up unevenly.Oh, and I'm not really all that concerned about one team getting "ALL THE XPs" for something simply because the number of times you need to run these things to get your components, and with there only being two trials, suggests you're going to unlock your slots in due time. Getting 25% XP versus 30% XP is really not a huge deal.
-
Quote:It's great that you do this. I hope that the underlying tech changes so that we the players (including team/league leaders) don't have to worry about it.Oh one last thing, I hope people on the trials I run realize I am totally not trying to steal iXP when we overload one team.
For lambda we have been overloading the acid team- just because it seems like at this point acids are more important then grenades. I had one person comment that we were taking all the iXP from the guns and I totally didn't even consider that when I set up the teams, so for anyone on those lambdas I am sorry.
For BAF, I think it all works out, north path (overloaded team) has less mobs so less iXP, then for keeping them separated, we split into 4 groups (2 on each av) so ixp should be fairly distributed. When we do Strong and Pretty I try to send one person from each team with AoE damage and judgements to the spawn (doms are awesome for this) so the iXP should be sort of close.
Again, I apologize to anyone who got hosed on iXP because of overloaded teams, I've been recently trying to come up with ways to more equally distribute damage along team lines. -
Just one cold. I have not heard of that powerset being referred to as "cold dom" before. Not saying it hasn't, just when I see "dom" I think dominator.
-
-
Yes, got 4 badges at the end once Marauder went down: Antacid, Lambda Looter, Well Stocked, and the Master badge.
-
I like both the trials quite a bit. At first I preferred Lambda, but now I think I like BAF more.
I do have a gripe though about how iXP works... I don't like that the reward is not normalized across all members of the league. A damage heavy team can earn quite a bit more iXP than a buff/debuff team. I have heard arguments/complaints about people being put on "weaker" teams meaning they'll be getting less iXP. That may impact the league leader's method for forming teams. There can be such a huge variation because of this from run to run. My scrapper got 63% toward unlocking Judgement in one run. The next run I was on, my defender got only 8%. Now there were other factors in play - on the second run, we were going for the keep em separated badge, but, still, I don't like that team makeup can effect what your rewards are. All players in the trial should get equal iXP based on the total number of enemies defeated. It shouldn't be directly related to the damage percentage caused by "your" team. -
Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! Special thanks to FMP for making today a great day. Every day with you is a great day
-
Hey, I resemble that remark! Maybe... I don't know...
I'm not saying "speed" run. I'm saying "steamroll." You don't necessarily have to skip groups - like you would in a total speed run. Just don't go off on side trips to take out groups that aren't directly in the path to your next objective.
"Cimeroids" - awesome
