  2. Aww, but I wanted my Incarnate now...

Still, thanks for the update, and for being sensible enough to not launch with a bug like that. Delays are annoying. Getting a character messed up is much worse.

    Human Powers?

Humanity's gimmick, so to say, is our brain power. We're the smartest critter we know of, and we used that to conque the world. So any animal bitten by a radioactive human would, in comic book science, gain intelligence comparable to a human.

    Comic book science is fun.
  4. Everything is easier in hindsight. There should have been a "Three of a kind" limit on enhancements from the start, for instance.

But the main thing I'd have done is to have held off PVP until there'd been something to do with it. Putting it in I4 as arena only made two things very clear to most players: That CoH PVP was all about deathmatches and that 90% of all characters didn't stand a chance in a deathmatch. So they did the logical thing and went back to PVE fights. PVP should have been held off until CoV, and with it, we should have had PVP objectives and non-deathmatch kinds of fighting. The current zones are used much less than they could, as they're pretty much just deathmatch areas with some PVE content scattered around for bait. Surprisingly, this doesn't work that well to attract new players. Take an idea from... another MMO... and have the zones be contested areas with defendable fortifications and rewards for holding them.

It does look like they've learned from this, though, with the delay of the Alpha Slot until there was at least some Incarnate content to do.

I'd also have finished Power Customization by letting us customize pool and epic pool powers. I want to de-yellow Hasten.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with what CoH has done.
  5. My Forcefielder is going for the Nerve Radial fir the Defense Boost. Now she's can near softcap the entire team's defense, with the Alpha, she'll overshoot it.

My Trick Archer is... whoa. Read the Musculature Radial Paragon, then compare to Trick Arrows. She's going to go as far in the Musculature tree as she can before I20 for that one. Trick Archers made out like bandits on that particular ability.
  6. I can't see any downside to this. People get the exact level IO they want and more Inf gets destroyed in the process.

I like it. I'd definitely use this myself if it was possible.

I might not have reached joy yet, I still have a lot of things I want to do to hit that. But I've got hope in spades. And hope is something I cannot allow myself to lose, even for an instant. I suppose that's the word I was dancing around, really. I keep happy because I've got hope. Life is hard, but it's also extremely random at times. I need to be ready and charged for when opportunities appear. Both those I seek out and those that find me. Although, to be fair, I could probably be a better seeker, but that's just something I need to work on. Shyness is not an insurmountable obstacle, after all. In any case, I feel I've made my argument for now. It's my own little piece of Zen, I suppose. The final form of cynicism is to realize that cynicism itself is flawed as it shows the world for what it is, but not what it can become. It just takes effort and a smile to get there. That's not to say that pure optimism is the best, either. It only shows what can be, not what is. To get anywhere, you need both a point of origin and a goal. Cynicism and optimism. Maybe you'll reach the goal, maybe you won't. But it's worth a shot... or 20.

I'm aware of the state of the world. I've just grown cynical about cynicism. Cynicism is useful because it lets you see the world for what it is, good or bad. Classically, cynics usually see most bad, because, well, there's a lot of it to find. However, how much of this can be helped by complaining about it or feeling down? Not a whole lot. In fact, a lot of the depressing parts get even more depressing when you're down. But if feeling down solves nothing... then why do it? So, I don't.

The world is a terrible unfair and generally unpleasant place. I take it we agree on that? However, I can't do a thing about most of that, and all that's in the past has already happened, so I can't do anything about that either. So I face the future with a smile. Because whatever is there isn't going to get better by frowning at it.

It's not an easy mindset to adopt, I'll admit. You know when a joke is in such bad taste that it becomes funny? You know, crosses the line twice, as it were? It's that with cynicism. It's so cynical that it wraps around and becomes optimism.

I'm not saying to be happy all the time, though, as that also gets boring. Be sad when you need to. Be afraid if something scares you. Be angry when you need to as well. But I, at least, default back to happy when I'm done. Happiness is so much sweeter when you have some annoyances to compare with.

So, no. It's not denial. It's an informed choice. And when the choice is despair against happiness, I'm choosing happiness every single time. Why would I want despair? Sure, there's more than enough reason to, but really, why would I ever choose despair? It never helps. Smiling, on the other hand, just might. And on the off-chance it does, I'll keep smiling. It's the cynical thing to do.

Yeah, if that's your attitude towards life, you'll never find happiness.

Me? I'm happy. Genuinely smiling happy. Been so for years now. And it's not a case of denial or anything like that. It's a choice. Life can be hard, bad stuff happens to everyone. You'll get no argument from me there. I've had my share of bad luck and depressing events happen to me the last couple of years. But then I ask: Does it help to grouch over it? Bad stuff happens no matter if you're grouchy or happy. I like being happy more, so I choose to be.

I call this outlook "Cynical Optimism" and it's served me well. Nothing gets me down for long. Why should I let it? To me, this is the secret to happiness. Although it's kind of obvious in retrospect. Life can be depressing, if you let it. But if you're cynical enough, you can get to the point where you go "So what?" and harness the cynicism for optimism.

This also means that I find gritty movies/games/books so dreadfully boring. I usually think "Yeah, yeah, I know you have it hard, now let's get to the good parts." And then it just gets even more gritty and depressing. No, I want those silly, overly optimistic works instead. Why? Why not? I choose the entertainment that makes me smile. Smiling is fun, brooding is boring. So, again, I choose to smile.

I probably sound like some kind of deranged Pollyanna, but I am who I am. A cynical optimist. I've found my secret to happiness, and I'll gladly share it with others. In fact, I've been told my smile and outlook is infectious, so... here. Have a free one from me!

  10. I can vouch for Forcefields/Energy Defenders working out, too. But it's by no means a high-damage combo. It can, however, practically softcap your entire team's defense to everything but untyped Psi and unresistable damage. You'll end up with a knockback monster, though, so learn to aim the KB so the enemy lands somewhere unpleasant for him. Like in range of a Scrapper... or in lava. that's always nice.

Of course, if you want to go nuts, there's Storm Summoning. Not for the faint of heart and those who dislike chaos, but Storm is pretty fun to play, too.
  11. Well, Batman seems to be doing this already with Batman Inc. Now there'll be a whole franchise of Dark Knights worldwide. That's a pretty interesting idea for an aging Batman, to be honest. I could have seen Spider-man go the Spider-girl route, too. Except not anymore since she's the daughter of Peter and MJ carrying on the Spider-name as she inherited Peter's spider powers. However, since One More Day that part is missing.

An idea that could be interesting is to have most heroes pass on the mantle, but not all. I don't see Wonder Woman quitting any time soon. She's got a lot of years of amazon warrior left in her still. What could happen, however, is that she'd end up as the veteran/mentor role, perhaps not to her liking. If she's been in the business for 50 years and there's a batch of rookie heroes, she's going to have her hands full either way. Can you imagine what training sessions led by Wonder Woman would be like? I get the feeling she'd be one tough drill-master. Plus with the amount of world-threating crossovers and magic she's encountered during her career, shed be a perfect level-headed leader type among the rookies. I mean, what could seriously surprise any of the Big Three in DC anymore? They have practically seen everything, and even things that aren't.

Another fun thought is what about characters that don't have a successor? I'm thinking that Iron Man might not let anyone else carry on the name, since he's had one armor too many stolen/misused/turned sentient. If he's doing anything, he's going the Batman route here. No full armor, but perhaps use some of the tech to aid SHIELD or some other law enforcement group. No new Iron Man, but perhaps an Iron Corps wearing scaled down versions of the Stark Tech. You know, the idiot proof versions. A newbie in a full Iron Man suit is going to cause a lot of trouble, but a mass produced combat armor based off the tech in the Iron Man suit could save some lives. Imagine it as a SWAT team for superpowered incidents.

Then there's the easy ones that already have succession as part of their stories. Like Green Lanterns. There'll be new recipients of the rings. Or like Flash. There's been many Flashes, so maybe there'll be one more? Could also see a new team of X-Men, with the current team either retiring or turning into teachers for the new ones. It is a school they live in, after all. The possibility of a High-School drama X-Men series is there, and I'm sure it could be pulled off with a good writer, even if it goes against a lot of the X-Men spirit. (Then again, X-Men Evolution wasn't that bad...) Wolverine would be an awesome history teacher, mainly because he was there. World War 2? Yeah, he was there. Not that I see Logan as the teaching type... which would make it all the more funny to get him roped into that whole deal.
  12. Was a big animated Justice League fan, wanted a game that could play a little like that. Found the animated City of Heroes trailer and ordered it from the US. Also a friend of mine was playing on the US servers already, but I think he's long gone from the game at this point.
  13. Let me put it like this: There's a reason that the Master of badges for the new TFs, especially Apex, don't require 0 defeats. They're not "bigger bag of HP difficult", more along the lines of "You stop moving, you're dead" or "That's a lot of mines..." difficult.

The end bosses are a bit more creative in these. You'll never look at Battle Maiden the same way again. In Apex TF, Warriors farm YOU!

    A god with a gun

Didn't Punisher become an Agent of God and expanded his target list to demons as well? I didn't read it, but I think I heard something like that happened.

That's pretty much a gun user with the powers of a god. I haven't heard if it was a good story, though.
  15. I have no idea if this is taken or not, but "Blacklight".

This lends itself naturally to a black and white/purple costume and/or powers.
  16. So that Limitless Radial Freeeem? Go play Mender Ramiel's arc in open beta. I'd say more, but I don't want to spoil the first mission in that arc. Go see for yourself.

    Triage Beacon: Detention Field!
Problem solved, for 30 seconds. DF recharges in about 20 when slotted for it. So problem re-solved until it goes away.

    Alternatively: Force Bubble!
This area is mine and you can't have it.

Forcefields is about to become uber!

    Well, one can hope.
  18. I'm colorblind, so no.

The only one I've kept the same costume on for most of the time is the Defender in my signature. And even she got an emergency trip to Icon after someone asked "Why is your hair green?". It was supposed to be blond.
  19. Two things for me.

First is the community. I usually don't involve myself too much with video game communities, despite playing a lot because most of them are... not nice. But this one is special, at least to me. I mean, I wouldn't be at this many posts if it wasn't. (Note to self, stop delaying picking out an avatar already!) And the best part is that it extends to ingame as well. I don't know what it is, but I find the vast majority of people playing CoH to be pretty nice, even when trying to play the "endgame" raid-like content.

Secondly... Whee! I can fly! Yeah, it's silly fun, but I like flying in CoH. If I ever feel like the game is getting a little dull, I'll log on one of my fliers and do some trick flying. Then I'm happy again. City Traveler is the best Vet Reward, since I can get Fly sooner, or on characters that otherwise wouldn't.

I do sometimes take a few weeks away from the game, especially around Halloween since I hate the eternal night part of it, but I've never let my subscription lapse since I got the game. I do like a few of my characters a lot, but none of them are precious enough that I wouldn't leave them all behind. But so far, I haven't had to.

True, it has potential for good and bad. The potential for use as a brainwashing drug needs to be considered. It's not a question of if it will be used like this, of course it will. All medicine has a misuse facto to consider. But if this is a cure for PTSD, then I'm all for it. Plus the phobia-be-gone aspect of it appeals to me a lot. Got a couple of nasty ones that I'd really like to see vanish in a puff of logic.

It's an interesting invention, to say the least, and I can't help but wonder what's next. A cure for stupid? Unlikely, but useful, I'd think.
  21. Oh! There's more! A little special surprise. Nice, TeamFourStar has been busy. Of all things to make a comedy spoof of...

Also in related news, there's a new Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, too. It must be abridged day today.
  22. Ginyu Force, ASSEMBLE!

TeamFourStar does it again, and the Ginyus are as fun as expected. It's pretty difficult to parody parody, but they pulled it off pretty well. Recoome is just right as a pro-wrestler.
  23. I'll have one "Odontophobia" pill, please. That's fear of dentists, by the way. Seriously, if I could cure that with a pill, I'd buy that cure in a heartbeat.
  24. Could I make a small request for the I19 Mids? The default green and yellow used for selected and unselected powers, could you change one of those a little? I'm red/green colorblind and those two colors are practically identical to me. Perhaps turn the brightness up/down on one of them?

I know how to change it myself in the options, but I just thought I'd bring the colorblindness issue for the default colors up while I remembered it. I usually just turn unselected powers white, which looks pretty well to me.
