Quote:Like this? Power Xtreme!Costume Change Emotes: I'd like to see some costume change emotes that are more tech-oriented than the ones we have now. A couple examples:
-Orbital Armor-Up: Character goes into a power activation stance (I'm thinking like the 'hands out at sides concentrating' stance), and glowing pieces of 'armor' begin to orbit around them. The pieces orbit closer, finally attaching to the character model in a bright glow or flash, effecting the costume change.
-Orbital Armor-Down: The above in reverse- Character goes into a power activation stance. Body glows, and glowing armor pieces spin or simply fly off of the character, effecting the costume change.
I'd love to get a Centurions style costume change, even if I have very few characters that'd use it. I used to watch that cartoon all the time as a kid, so cheesy, so blatantly a toy commercial, so awesome. -
An unexpected, but welcome buff to Forcefields. I'm looking forward to it.
-
I have to agree. That IS the best trailer I've seen in a long time.

He's still an 8-foot magical mechanical samurai who dresses in all black and kills people over the phone. Still scary, even if he was an emo teen.

Quote:It's times like this that I wish that I could slap someone with a wet trout across the internet. For crying out loud, Sony... BAD company! BAD! *troutslap*
On the plus side, if you haven't gotten that email, your password is still safe. -

Well, looks like PSN is waking up now. Slowly. You're forced to change passwords when you try to log in, though, but that's to be expected.
In any case I really hope Sony has learned a thing or two about network security and customer relations from this. I expect they have, you don't take a month to reboot something like this without doing some rather extensive rewriting. Heard that they had Symantec people helping them, and they should know a thing or two about network security. -
Ooh, I've been waiting for this thread. I only have one request that hasn't really been mentioned yet.
Power Effects: Forcefields
All of the Forcefield powers look kind of dated. The swirly, sparkly water-ish look was nice in 2004, but not so much now. With all the bubbles that have been added to CoH since then, the original bubbles look kind of lackluster. I'm especially thinking of World of Confusion. That vertical ring sprite in it makes the bubble feel more three dimensional, which the Forcefield bubbles kind of don't. Also Barrier, but the flashing in that gets a bit grating on the eyes.
Other things that could be used to make Forcefields look spiffier would be effects like refraction. We have the water effect, and the surface of the forcefields look like water, so maybe adding the refraction water effect to it could make it look different? I know the Thermal shields already use that for a heat effect.
Well, I think that's all I got. I just want to see the 2004 forcefields updated to a 2011 version. -
Um, yeah. Hi! I was kind of already here, but I appreciate the welcome. Also welcome to all the rest of the servers, my fellow Europeans. Now, remember the plan.

Quote:I was thinking of Star Fox, actually. Or Pilotwings. Some measure of autocorrection, but giving you something to do while flying a mile across a zone. Stunts and aerial tricks, basically. Descent-style is fun, but only really works when there's no up in the game. CoH2 would presumably have an up direction that the player character would default to when hovering. What you're describing is a rather very complex control scheme that relies on six axis of movement with no camera orientation limitation.
Right now, we have three axis of locomotion: left-right, forward-backward and up-down (jump-down), and we have full control over yaw (turning left and right along the vertical line) half-way control over pitch (looking up and down) which is limited from straight down to straight up and allows for no upside-down camera, and we lack any control over our roll orientation. I'm not sure how complex it would be to implement what's missing, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the engine may have trouble drawing a non-standard camera orientation. That, and not only would this only benefit Fly, it also has the potential to make the control scheme far more complex than it strictly needs to be.
For reference, I direct anyone to check out any of the Descent games. They have the kind of controls I just described, and this can make them profoundly confusing, to the point of eliminating any notion of "up and down."
That said, in an ideal world, HELL YEAH would I wan that kind of flying! -
On the other hand, I don't think I'll worry about sharing credit card details with the new PSN at all. Sony can't help but have learned from this the hard way. I mean, I can't imagine that they'd want to see something like this happen again any time soon.

Concerning Repulsion Bomb and Force Bubble, I can say that I use both, although Force Bubble less often than Repulsion Bomb.
Repulsion Bomb has gone through a lot of revisions since the beginning of the game, and right now it's just a damage AoE (same power as a secondary blast AoE) that has a decent chance for disorienting the enemy and does knockdown. The only drawback it has, as far as I'm concerned, is that it's somewhat slow animating.
Force Bubble is a situational power. As an area denial tool, it's great, but it draws a lot of aggro. I mainly use it on the BAF trial, it's not stopping the Commandos, but all the minions just run into the bubble wall and stay there. Should also be useful on the Sutter TF with the bomb ghouls.
Also, I'd argue against going the Fighting Pool route. I went for Medicine myself as while you're the squishiest member of the team, you're not that squishy, and Aid Self pretty much heals you right back up. But it's interruptible, so if you're really under fire, use Personal Forcefield to get a moment of peace to heal up. Actually, use Personal Forcefield at any time where you need to move through dangerous places without the time to defeat what's in the way. You're practically invincible with that thing on, except if you get hit with a Sleep. -
I just want one thing from CoH2 that this game isn't capable of: A flight mode that supports aerobatics.
When I pull back hard during a flight, it doesn't mean I want to go straight up, it means I'm going for a loop, and why not do a barrel roll when I press the move left/right buttons twice while flying forward? I also want to be able to fly upside down. Couple that with an aura or power that leaves a trail and you've got a fun aerobatics team in the making.
The rest of it, with power balance and such I'm sure will be taken care of, but I just want to have an even better Fly. -
Quote:As far as I can tell from the very sparse information Sony is giving, there is a security flaw inherent in the code for the PSN setup. So in other words, yes, the only way to secure it right now is to turn it off.I think the fact that they literally didn't have it back up within a day or two goes to show just how utterly borked their security is. The only way to stop their servers being hacked is to not turn them on.
That's pretty sad.
This also means that in order to restore PSN services to all the Playstation 3 users, they need to rebuild PSN from the bottom up. Something about hacked consoles would be able to log right back into the admin part of PSN if they just patched it up and turned it back on.
Fatal security flaw: Sony trusted the client. Yes, the PS3 was pretty resilient to hacking, but it wasn't invulnerable, and when it was broken, PSN was, too. THAT is where the Epic Fail comes in.
I hope it's back up soon. I should probably be annoyed, but I'm beginning to find it somewhat hilarious, and I'm one of those affected by it! -

Quote:And if I was that impatient, I wouldn't be at 2 billion now. What I'm really selling is my patience, after all. I'm fine with creating a pile of IOs, then selling them off at a reasonable (or not) mark up. It takes about as long for me to craft 10 of a kind as it'll take for someone who's just completing a set to make one.Not really. They regularly sell for 2.5-2.75 billion here in the Market Forum, and I've often seen them for 2.25. Also, they sell daily, sometimes more often, on the market - which can't possibly be more than 2 billion. On the market, it's essentially a lottery, but every time one goes up, SOMEONE has to win - that's how I got mine.
In short: 2 billion is only 2/3 of the way to a Glad Armor if you're impatient enough to throw away anywhere up to a billion more than you need to.
I've just begun poking at a couple of purples, see if there's Inf to be made there. My usual strategy at work: Post a criminally low, but plausible bid, then wait a few days. I can't see how that shouldn't work on purples. -
While the whole catgirl ears thing is pretty amusing, I like what this also means in a bigger picture. Together with that Star Wars Force Trainer toy this begins to show that brain controlled toys are beginning to become possible. And if we can do that at consumer level, it looks promising on a medical level, I'd think. So we've got cat ears that react to emotions. The next generations of this tech could be awesome.

And with "The Best Night Ever", the season draws to a close. And what an end it is, starting off with a Disney-class musical number leading into the misadventures of the ponies at the Grand Galloping Gala.
I should probably point out Fluttershy again... Don't make Flutterhulk angry, you wouldn't like her when she's angry. If there's a posterpony for "Beware the quiet ones" it's Fluttershy. I'm beginning to wonder if she's soft spoken and shy by choice, if that's what happens when she lets go. Scary little pony there.
Well, one season down, and a second is already in the works. Looking forward to it, we may see the return of Luna there. -
Quote:Are we talking old My Little Pony or "Friendship is Magic" My Little Pony? Because I could go for the latter. And having James Earl Jones narrate for my character would be worth it.1 Choice of 4 theme songs... Smurf, My Little Ponies, Banana Split Show, The Peoples Court
2 A Narrator to read all those new Boxes. James Earl Jones, Sam Elliot, Bobcat Goldthait, The narrator of the Superfriends
3 Aura Your basic elemental ones plus Pigpen from peanuts
4 Translator - your choice of Resistance or Preatorian Clockwork
5 The Awesome Button
Seriously, though, if you look at the kinds of power in the game, we're missing an armor toggle, a control power, a powerful single target attack, and a utility power like Stealth, Build Up, Boost Range and so on. Spread those out among the four, and do something nuts with Omega. -
Quote:That outfit is a modified version of Rose's normal formalwear. Since that mission appeared in the RWZ with the peace conference, I've always made the fourth costume into formalwear of some kind. She doesn't normally wear the hat and monocle, but she's all red, white, and gold in all her costumes. The rest are more silver age heroic, though.Congratz! And nice color scheme btw! I like the outfit.
No shame in being a penny pusher. I'm still one even while holding several billions. Since you mentioned SG and are wondering what to spend with your earnings, I suggest making your own. Your heroes deserve a lair you can show off, and you can use it store IOs for the toons that you are leveling but aren't yet able to slot them... yet. I try to start collecting IOs even when my toon is a lowbie so that I have a bunch ready to slot by the time the toon hits 50.
As for purples, I have played this game for about a year, and none of my toons have any purples. A few have LOTG7.5s. Are my toons gimped? With several 'Master of' badges on each one and Tier 4 Alpha, I don't feel like they are. Purples to me, are icing on the cake, but not really necessary to play content.
Also, a lot of people view marketing as a deterrent or not in line with their heroes' concept. I am glad for you that you overcame that. It does take a little bit of time, but as you have discovered, it's small relative to some of the long task forces that can take over an hour. You will have to invest some time to build your toons, but the benefits in the long run will keep you happy playing them.
Welcome to the Ebil Club!
As for concept, it's easy. Influence can be many things, after all. Everyone knows that Aegis Rose has toiled night and day at the University to make wonderful magical trinkets for her fellow heroes to use. She's influential in the "magical Reed Richards" kind of way. See, it's easy to justify being a greedy marketeer in character?
I actually remember the moment that made me do a double take on the Market. I was just about to do my usual "dump everything on the market at a low price" thing with yet another Acc recipe, when I checked out on a whim what people were paying for the finished IO. Five times what they were paying for the recipe, easily covering the crafting costs. I then bought up the remaining recipes and put the finished IOs up for sale. That was my first half million of marketeering profit. Then I used Hero Merits to get some good stuff and, well, here I am.
As far as IO power goes, Rose has good allround Defenses. Nothing softcapped, since I also went for damage buffs. She's actually pretty powerful, especially now that she has Incarnate buffs. She'll never solo an AV, but anything less is fair game. Also on Lambda runs, Rose is right there in the thick of it with the melee types during the sabotage. It takes more than that to scare her. -
I'm just going to wave my "I agree!" flag here.
Consistency is a virtue in interface design, and while having GM Tells have a different color to stand out is a good idea, they're still Tells and should show up in the [Tell] channel. It's just good interface design practice to do so. -
Well, it has the death ray, so I'm happy. It's strange that this one wasn't in Judgement from day one, really.

Quote:Ah, I just assumed it was a typo and you meant set IOs, even then top 5% seems a bit low. Someone actually said that only 5% could afford SOs at level 50? I have no idea what to say about that, you get more than enough Inf just leveling to 50.Sorry, that's kind of a Market forums inside joke. I can't find the post, but one poster who's rather notorious on the forums once made the claim that "95% of the playerbase can't afford SOs at level 50". I was commenting that you are now in the top 5% that can afford SOs.
-
Quote:I'm the what now? Huh, never thought about that, I guess I am in the top 5%. I've just been focused on hitting the cap, not really thinking about what that means in the bigger picture. You go out and buy SOs for all your level 50 characters, now that you're in the top 5% of players that can actually afford to do so.
To me, the important thing about this, though, is not so much that I actually have that much Inf on hand. That's nice and all, and made for a fun screenshot, but the real reward is knowing how to do so again. My Inf count might say 2 billion, but it's just a number. I can afford anything I want now, some of it will just take a little time and patience to gather up the extra Inf for.
I think that's the last step in the transformation to EBIL marketeer isn't it? The realization that what I have on hand is actually irrelevant. What matters is that I know how to make Inf off the market, with surprising ease now. I'm actually beginning to see how the firepit makes sense, but I'm still going to spend my Inf on IO builds and similar before I start burning it for fun.
