    I remember Steampunkette !

    I enjoyed her/his posts.

I would love to know if she/he started up this game.

Thank you for the name of this game....it sounds like you can both team and solo in it much like City Of Heroes, and the graphics are beautiful.

    I, I think I will give it a try.

Take a look at their MMO section. City Of Heroes is there with an Icon/button featuring a pic of Penny Yin yelling at what looks like the door keeper to First Ward...could be mistaken about who or what she is yelling at though..it was small.

    Lisa.
  4. Since the article used NCsoft as the source I went to NCsoft.com and looked around.

All I found was a City Of Heroes button I have not seen before. It looked like Penny Yin was yelling at the Gatekeeper to First Ward.

    :Sigh:

Every time I log into the forums I keep hoping I will see something positive about the game's future.

    Take care all.

Lisa looks at FourSpeed with old, sad eyes.

It might be not practical, but as I said several posts above, whichever side of a problem, or election, or footballgame, etc I am on usually is the losing side.

I would love City to keep on in it's original state, but because of my "curse" I am cheerleading this idea instead....

Lisa-takes a deep breath, leaves thread, and goes back to throwing everything away..heard of Spring cleaning? I am Autumn cleaning
  6. Know something....I think these negative things game sites are publishing may be actually good for us.

When I was reading City Of Children, at first I was mad....but as I kept on reading, I started to smile, then grin.

Which type of news story is more read and spread?

Good stories that are full of rainbows and kittens?

Or the stories that make people growl and hiss????

The way that story was crafted was to get us to respond and defend our game, and spread it.

The ways we could get NCSOFT to listen to us were things we had done, we were making money for the company...prove it he said, and so we did.

I think he crafted that article to help City Of Heroes....
Or maybe I am overthinking this.

    Lisa.

Of course, the simple fact IS that it's an MMO, so the question is a bit of a moot
point - a standalone was never in the cards.
Just because a standalone was never in the cards does not mean it cannot become one....

It is hard to log in on favorite toons knowing D-Day is upon them.

They may be headed for the hills, but I bet ten nickles that if this game is bought out by someone else, they will scamper back in droves.

    :Sigh:

If anyone interested in buying the game reads this, know that a lot of us are emotionally attached to our toons to the extent that is super depressing to log in on them knowing the final countdown is ticking off.

Please, take this into consideration when/if you look at traffic count these past few days.

Also, the next issue in the works, if allowed to go live, would have brought just about everyone back into the game and they would have opened their money sacks wide to outfit their freshly fixed babies...lots and lots of fixes were in this issue.

Lisa-Going to log into the game.
  9. My first toon was a, long since deleted, Ice/Ice Blaster named Maddington.

When I heard the news about closing down, I remade Maddington as an Ice/Energy Blaster.

It is hard to log in and play knowing....chokes up.....

Hard or not, I will play the game every day.

I too looked hard at Diablo 3. They had a video of somesort of Ice user doing amazing things...maybe I will try Champions Online...I dunno. I am extremely heartsore over City Of Heroes.

Lisa-Sadder than I was when I responded to an earlier post.
  11. I think this thread is important, so I am posting again in it.

A boxed, single Player/Lan version of City Of Heroes is better than no City Of Heroes.

    Lisa-Feeling sad.
  12. OMG...more than Awesome.

    I have no words.

    Thank you.

    Lisa.
  13. Lisa finishes reading the thread, and scowls pensively at the screen.

Being a soloer, I love all the ideas in this thread...I have a very good track record of being on the losing end of things...for example I was rooting for Texas A&M to win, and they lost...so if I were to decide I liked the ideas in this thread more than I lik NCSOFT either selling or bringing back the game...NCSOFT will bring back the game....hmmm....

    Well, here goes....clears throat.

LISA WANTS A FREEDOM FORCE TYPE OF CITY OF HEROES.....

Digs out Paintshop Pro, and makes modding plans...

We will soon hear from NCSOFT.

I have to imagine this would be the quickest way for them to make some fast cash off the IP, both since it takes minimal programming and I can't see them being super determined to resurrect it somehow. Given that the shutdown seems to be largely stemming from NCsoft having a cash-flow problem, I have to imagine this would be a win for everyone involved, at least compared to simply shutting off the servers.

...and then I remember Cryptic would have to agree to it. Sigh.
They might agree to it. Heck, they might even invest in it. City Of Heroes used to be their baby, and from what I read they wish us the best..and didn't Jack say he was thinking of sending headhunters to Paragon to see if they could hire some of the very talented out of work Devs and such people ?

And they hired BABS back. I will always love them for that.

If City of Heroes was re-worked into a Freedom Force or Skyrim or KOTOR-style of single-player game (possibly with a multi-player option, but again like a standard RPG, not a MMORPG) would you buy it?

For me personally, the answer would be a resounding yes. Especially if it had modding tools built-in (which seems to be more and more the norm rather than the exception). Downloadable content? Yeah, I'd probably be into that too.

    Yes, YES, YESSSSSSSSS.....

Actually, I was playing Virtual Villagers this morning before work and yelling at my builders because I thought they were very lazy in not getting the little hut built, so I could increase my population..and I started to think that if Virtual Villagers could put so much personality and things to work towards into it's little game why couldn't City Of Heroes bottle itself into a single player packaged version....if it gets closed down of course...still hoping and wishing that it won't.

I went hunting, and this single player game has a Facebook page and forums...if they can do it, we for sure can.

    Something to think about.....

  16. Gothica, when that absurd puppy won't let you alone, whether or not you feel like it, SMILE!

When you smile most times your mood will improve.

Listening to lively music will help too..not depressing dark music, lively music such as Katy Perry's Teen Age Dream album. I usually play COH listening to a mix of songs composed of Katy Perry, Cowboy Mouth (Jenny Says FTW) Kim Possible, Night Wish, and some Led Zepplin.

Oh, another thing you might like...when I heard COH was closing, I went to Big Fish Games and looked for Virtual Villagers. To my delight not only did they have the first two, which I have played, but there were three more versions. I bought all three of the new ones (new to me) and am now playing Secret City.

Go to bigfish.com, and do a search for Virtual Villagers. You can Google for hints on progressing in the game and I encourage you to do so.

    Again...hugs.

    Lisa.
  17. Gothica, I understand how you are feeling because I am feeling the same thing.

I have always suffered from a streak of depression and when I heard the news about City being closed I feel into a state of bleakness I have not felt in a long time.

I have sent emails, letters but in my mind's eye I can see the office help tossing them into the trashcan unread....which really doesn't help matters. My last email was to Nexon. On their website they said to include a business plan, but I wrote a letter instead.

The email has not bounced back yet, so mayhaps someone there will read it.

Anyways, the fat lady lady has not sang yet. NCSOFT is apparently talking with Paragon, which does show a little promise. There is an NDA in effect so the Devs can't share with us what is going on.

I know I said the Devil has his claws in NCSOFT, but when I said that I was in deep agony. NCSOFT is a company composed of many people, it found itself in the red, and probably closed Paragon in full panic mode...or maybe the major players were on vacation or on a business trip, and, the junior members who were left wanted to make themselves look good....whatever happened we will never know, but if NCSOFT needs an inflow of cash selling City Of Heroes sounds like a smart thing to do.

If they do need the cash, and don't sell...then I guess I can go back to my Devil theory and who wants to do business with a company run by the Devil anyway...did I make you smile?

I guess the purpose of this rambling response is tell you to keep a flicker of hope alive...because if they need money, and are not possessed by the Devil,(which I bet a LOTG Recharge they aren't) then there is a good chance they will sell.

    Hugs, hugs, and more hugs.

I salute you, and I thank you for giving us this small grain of hope.

Lisa grins....actually....it doesn't give me the willies. I could swoop through other people's crime ridden city and beat up the Villains while not having to feel bad about my lack of hand-eye coordination because nobody would see me do it

    Good idea that

    Lisa.

Wistful edit...and I wonder if COH would have had larger numbers had the Devs made incarnating our toons easier for the solo set...I lost a lot of Global friends who soloed like I did, and left when they found out how unfriendly the end game was to soloers.

These two things make me think they want to show interested buyers what City Of Heroes is all about.

And as far as the Devs having to move to Texas, well, we are not the wild west as movies will tell you we are. We have trees

We also do not have a State Income Tax.

OMG I am hoping and praying that a company buys us and keeps the Devs...even if it is Disney.

    Ariel with Water Blast FTW!

Belle as a Broadsword/Shield scrap..well ok, I can see Mulan better as Broadshield/Shield

Anyways, thanks to you all I have a flicker of Hope now.
