  11. I still don't see the imbalance. As a 60 month veteran if I decide to take Super Speed at level 6 I will still wind up taking Hasten to tighten up my attack chain between level 8 and 14. I'm doing that now only I do so at levels 6 and 14. How is changing the order in which I choose said powers unbalancing?

The honest truth is that with the advent of temp travel powers no one needs to select things like Hasten at all. The argument that temp travel powers are fundamentally inferior to the normal travel powers holds no water because at last check they have not added a racing mini-game to CoX. The PvP zones don’t open up until level 20 at which point everyone should have their fully slotted travel power and most folks in the PvP zones are all running Super Speed anyway.

While the 60 month reward could possibly affect arena PvP it’s possible to disable travel powers in an arena match thus leveling the playing field.

    Dear newer players,

Your advantage is that you have started playing when the game was in a more advanced state than it was in the beginning.

You didn't have to deal with the same buggy missions, early-level travel issues, the lack of radio/newspapers and the lack of a difficulty slider. You didn't have to wait for the level cap to be raised to 50. You didn't have to wait for capes/auras to be introduced, or or for any number of new costumes/pieces. You didn't have to wait for APPs, PPPs, HEATs, VEATs. You didn't have to wait for respecs, the markets, or IOs. In short, you didn't have to wait for a countless number of quantitative/qualitative changes which have improved the game over time.

Veterans did have to wait for many if not all of those things. Anyone who will be eligible for the 60-month badge any time soon will have waited for every single one. So sure, argue all you like that the fees vets have paid were "for five years of fun, and they would have paid anyway!" Just do keep in mind that the game is a much better product now -- and I don't believe it's a stretch to conclude that the participation of those very vets is a large reason for many of the game's improvements over the last five years.

    That's your perk.

The 60-month badge is not as big a deal as some are making it out to be. Travel powers are optional, nowadays, more so than they ever were before -- and at least for some people, the usefulness of the pre-requisites is among the main reasons they take travel powers at all. Temp powers are marginally inferior mechanically, and certainly inferior conceptually, to normal pool travel powers, but they also don't cost power picks (and perhaps more importantly, pool picks).

Saving a power pick or having more flexibility in the early part of a build if they choose to take a travel power is the extremely long-time vets' perk. Take it from someone who's been around awhile; you've gotten the better part of this deal.

    Sincerely,

    Level Six Flyer.

Yes that's right, in the beginning, you could NOT attack a critter with a melee attack unless they were standing still.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I seem to remember that it wasn't that they had to be standing still, but rather that you had to initiate your attack from their front.
Not nit-picking, just curious if my memory is flawed.

No, you are correct and thanks so much for resurrecting such painful memories.

I didn't write the game, or anything it in.

*Attempt to explain Dev Logic begins* Some Primaries are shared. What may be a choice to you may be predetermined for others. So, that means that it's safe to call those powers Tier 1-9. Now, Power pools are the same for everyone, and have the powers available at different 'Tiers' for Everyone, so it's ok to refer to THEM as 'Tiers' also.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Powers in a shared powerset are not available at different ‘Tiers’, they are available at different levels.

As I mentioned before the word tier is a widely accepted term to number the powers listed in any given powerset. Each powerset has nine powers commonly referred to as Tier 1 through Tier 9 powers. Whether a shared powerset is a primary or secondary for a given archetype does nothing to change this numbering system. If the powerset is your primary then you may choose between the Tier 1 and Tier 2 power from that set at level one. If it is your secondary then you are automatically assigned the Tier 1 power.

By applying the same rules of terminology to the Power Pools you have 4 powers in each set numbered Tier 1 through Tier 4 and at level 6 you can choose between the Tier 1 and Tier 2 power from any one of the Power Pool sets.

If you are using the term ‘Tiers’ as a reference to the times when a given power is unlocked in a given powerset I will agree that you may choose to call that a tier as well but by the same token you can call it Susan or cumquatif you like. As that is not the widely accepted usage for the term 'Tier' in the game it cannot be said to apply here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

*I* did not initiate the use of the term 'TIERS'. But Please, By all means, continue to argue with me as if I *DID.

I'm sure it gives your life great joy.

    No argument, just clarification.
