Escrima's lame. What can you do with a pair of sticks that you can't do with a pair of unbreakable blades like we get in CoH?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Traditional eskrima is suppose to be trained as if they are bladed weapons. Some of the newer systems train them more fancy or simply dont consider their origin, which is blade

    [/ QUOTE ]

As I understand it, the style is first taught empty handed and students graduate to using sticks and knives. The idea is that the style is generally the same whether holding a stick, knife or nothing. This makes an escrimador or arnisador far more dangerous than one would think.

Oh and BaB, please please, please, please, please add an escrima powerset. I'll send cookies!

Entertaining but more like "Wolverine:Starring in some random origin story."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, the more I think about it it was more like one of his Madripoor adventures.

    Wait....

Someone is saying Wolverine was bad? Was it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bad? Not really. It was just not what I expect to see when I'm told that they are making a movie about Wolverine's back story. Wolverine's history is far more visceral, violent and lonely than it was portrayed in the recent film.

Hugh Jackman said in an interview that the movie centered on Wolverine’s battle between the more human and animalistic sides of himself. The problem was that the animalistic side was not portrayed very well in this film if it was portrayed at all. That portion of his life was left out of the film in two different places.

Artistic license and the bottom line being what they are no one could expect the end result to look like the source material but I think that a lot of good material was left out to make room for more mutants. Of course it’s a Fox film so that should be expected almost as much as the PG13 rating.

I really liked Daredevil too! I have the DIRECTOR'S CUT which is supposed to be the DEFINATIVE Daredevil...but I have yet to actually watch THAT version. It's still in the wrapper! LOL!

    [/ QUOTE ]

The directors cut of Daredevil is far superior to the theatrical version. It ties the story together nicely and makes it flow a little better. It's still no Iron Man or Dark Knight but the directors cut has definitely smoothed out some of the rough edges.

I have a question that I think I can keep short and concise.

The Mission Architect appears to be limited to some kind of virtual reality propagated by Architect Entertainment. What is the "reality" impact of this? Does that mean that all missions we create are all locked within the AE building and essentially "not real?" Does that mean we can't pretend that the storyline we made is actually real, rather than just a work of fiction within fiction?

That could be both good and bad, I suppose. On the one hand, it kind of bugs me that my duel between my namesake hero and his signature villain won't be "real." On the other hand, then I don't have to worry about writing some stupid, impossible plot and have it disproved by canon because it's not "real."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since I am more than likely going to use the Mission Architect for character origin and back story I will wind up defining it as using virtual reality to retell my character's past adventures.

Heres another interview, from Allakhazam, some nice insights and apparently the devs will be using the MA to make missions in the future (and that when they get new tools for it, they will be passed onto the players).

    [/ QUOTE ]

So wait, if they start giving the playerbase 100% content and creative control, then what will be the reason for us to pay $14.95?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Beeeecause, oh, maybe, THEY are still creating content?
Because without access to the servers, you can't play *any* content at all?

They are not "giving the playerbase 100% content and creative control." The IP, the official storylines, etc. are still in NC's control. This is *something extra to play with.*

    Got it?

Not happy with that... *shrug* save yourself fifteen bucks a month.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree that it will be soemthing to play with.

The fear is that such a powerful tool results in the end of creative obligation on their part and a drying up of storytelling opportunities. We, the players will close doors on any potentially original story arc from NCNC.
They'll throw something out there and the crowd will cite a previously created arc that a player made and we'll shout in unison "seen it." And let me tell you those are some horrible words to see when your job is to keep things fresh in the story department.
You can't just give it all away. People will gorge themselves, and nothing will be left.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You make a very valid point. While you can't predict or control player content once the genie is out of the proverbial bottle you also can't avoid allowing this kind of system in the face of the fact that the impending competition will be providing something similar.

There's also the possibility that the developers will take advantage of the early popularity of the Mission Architect in order free up some of their resources to work on more of the game mechanics. Give the players the option to tell their own stories and further inject their characters into the City of Heroes mythology meanwhile the developers redirect their focus to other parts of the game like new powers, new archetypes, power customization, PvP.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
So, when does PVP Get their Awesome button?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Meh, PvP is fine.
  8. From the MMORPG.com article:

    [ QUOTE ]
"The [Mission Architect] system itself was conceived almost by accident: Up until fairly recently, quest writers working on City of Heroes were forced to slog through their task using an unwieldy spreadsheet. This fact had the unfortunate result of making quest creation a) more difficult than it needed to be and b) only accessible to the few select developers who knew how the system worked. This, thought those in the positions of power to muse on such things, was simply unacceptable. The tools needed to be accessible enough that anyone on the development team could sit down and write a mission."

    [/ QUOTE ]

I find things like this to be very heartening about this game and it's developers. They found something that needed fixing and made it possible for everyone, developer and player alike, to benefit from the solution. Thanks again developers! Even after 5 years here I'm still impressed with your dedication to the game and the players.
