Tentatively, it looks like I'll only be able to promise the TFs I have marked above, but I'll try to find a way to squeeze in Faathim as well. I think I'll be running it the week after anyway, but I like knocking things off my "to-do" list. lol - Saturday, December 25th, 2010, 8:00 pm EST: Positron Task Force

I logged in (Freedom) just fine. I saw this thread before I tried, so I watched for a patch, but it went by lightning-fast. It must have been a very minor update. Either way, it seems to be working. For those still having issues, maybe try rebooting and trying again? I dunno.

Quote:Yes. If you have a character that only logs in at one specific computer, it will always look the same and have no impact on the other toons that you log in at other locations.I was afraid it was like that. Wish it was saved locally. Would make it so much easier. What if i were only to play one toon at home and one away. They would have different settings right.
On a side note, it seems kinda silly for you to have to say to yourself "well, I'm at work, so I can only log into character B", so just go with the custom wdw files so you can play any toon anywhere. -
Agreed. After the post a few days back asking what the name of the window was, I slipped it into my default binds as well, except I don't do the "one touch" keys for the windows like it is for default. I changed them all to Control+ instead, so there is no accidental open/close of random windows when I'm trying to type or do something else. lol
-
Quote:This. You can't stop it from happening. What you can do is use /wdwsavefile filename once on both computers, and then /wdwloadfile filename each time you log in after that.
Your UI is saved on the character, not on the computer. If you log into a different computer and move the windows to accommodate a different resolution, they will be in that new same screen-position (coordinate-wise) when you log back in on the original computer.
Using the above commands will set your preferences for each system, and allow you to re-load them onto the character quicker each time you switch. -
Father Time gives it as a mission (as well as the classic BNY mission)

Update:
While i have not had any of the usual contact list crashes with 10.12, I did crash just now when i called in a TF (which results in the normal contacts loading up again). It wasn't just a standard crash either, it was a "driver stuck in infinite loop" crash that forces me to hard reset my system. -
Although the patch notes say that he can no longer be dragged out of range of his clones, I suspect that what really happened was their range was increased dramatically, making it impossible to drag "out of range", which means you can still pull him wherever you want, but it's not going to help. lol

I'm working Sunday morning this weekend, so I might not be able to hang out with you guys for this one. If you need an extra and I happen to be on and not tired.. I'll probably come along on Tabby. Who needs sleep anyway? lol
-
I don't get it, but Gratz!
On a side note, you missed:
Saber_Spectre's 900 club
Chad Gulzow-Man's The 700 club, round 2
_23X_'s 600 club
among others... -
I'd agree with that. In both pictures, the characters are actually in the same animation (position), but the one on the left is simply missing the object.

Quote:When I earned the badge, I triggered at least 2 mines, and several pets got hit with explosions. Badge was still awarded. Also, I understand the the badge is awarded for not taking damage from the trip mines only? IE, triggering the bomb (but running away in time) will not disqualify you from earning the badge? And pets don't count in triggering and taking damage from the trip mines?

That's a good one! -
Thanks for the info. I will try it out on the contact list and Ouro on my affected toons and report back my findings.
Edit:
Well, I installed it and loaded up a couple of characters that I was having issues with before, and things worked flawlessly. Hopefully it lasts. It's nice being able to rely on simple things like a window with secondary 3d environments in it opening properly. haha -

Quote:Nope, there was never a beacon to the Hive. The closest beacon has always been Eden.
However there is one thing that might be causing the confusion: If you die in the Hive, go to the rez rings in your SG base, and then exit via the SG portal (not the teleporters) you will go back to the Hive.Quote:Keeping in mind that you re-appear at the exact spot where you died. Depending on the circumstances of your demise, that might be sub-optimal.
I know that was not necessarily either one of your points, but it's slightly-related useful information. -
Quote:Yes and no. I like to get as many as I can on my own main badge toons, but I am not necessarily in competition with any other collector. I'm behind by a couple years worth of Veteran and anniversary badges anyway, so that'd always be a losing battle. haha. I just like knowing that I have a few toons that I consider "complete" by having earned the badges too.Are the lot of you competing just on count and the actual badges don't matter ? Is it about gaining all of them ?
Sure, we might joke around once in a while when a new issue comes out and one person got to the new stuff before another and there is banter like "Oh you better get moving", but it's all in fun. In my eyes, even the "1100 badge" thread stuff isn't necessarily competition either. People are just proud of their accomplishments. There's nothing wrong with that.
If it was a "real" competition, we'd earn our badges and run around without telling anybody how we got them. That's just not sporting at all. I'm happy for everybody who achieves their badge goals, and I go out of my way to help others when the opportunity presents itself.
No. That would cheapen the whole experience. It's the same reason I don't AE-farm. haha -
Quote:Part of the updating process is updating the updater itself. Renaming it tells it what to do. Regardless of how you THINK it works, the fact is that hundreds of people have done it in the past with no issues.1. I believe those the NA and EU updater files have different things in them. Renaming them is creating further problems. I have downloaded copy of the eu updater file now.
Quote:2. Do you know what files I need to copy over? I have created a second directory but the updater still requests a whole new download, right? So what does the piece meal copying do? Can the updated sense what files are there and only download the missing? From what I've its not that intelligent. It will download all. -
CoH is a 32-bit program. Most operating systems (even 64-bit ones) will only allow 32-bit programs to utilize about 2gb of memory. At that point, it crashes. It doesn't matter how much physical memory you have in your computer. You can still run the game if you only had 1g of ram, or even 512mb, but it'd be much slower as the system will use your hard drive for the extra memory instead of the ram.
As for a "fix", there might be some tricks to tweak your OS, but somebody else would have to answer with that. I never messed around with it myself. Other than that, we can only hope that the CoH Devs come up with a way to manage the memory usage better. It likes to hold onto tons of information that it never really uses (information about people you've teamed with, zones you've been in, chat, contents of windows you've opened, and other info). I mean.. it does actually use some of it later, but it's not like it would drop our overall performance to just load it again when it's actually needed instead of hoarding it all "just in case".
People have been complaining about memory usage for quite some time, and have crashed in the past with as little as 1.5g reliably. Each issue release brings more game content and more things the game apparently loads and saves. I've seen my average CoH memory usage (after "hours of play") go from 900mb when I started playing in 2006, to the 1.6g I see today. Eventually, my client reaches about 1.9g and crashes as well.
Something you might be able to do in the meantime: /unloadgfx$$clearchat
That should free up a little bit of memory (sometimes VERY little), but if you really want to make sure your memory usage doesn't cause you to crash is simply to check on it once in a while. When it gets to about 1.7g or so, you might consider closing your client and opening a fresh one. -
Quote:If the clients were the same, Ncsoft wouldn't have needed 2 different clients. Now think about that.Quote:How is just renaming a executable redirecting it? I don't even want to address the "shortcut" issue. What kind of computer are you using? Are you on a Mac? Even so, my big issue is still the downloading, it will still pull new files, right?
That command is designed to skip the updater process and go right to the game loading. You are right that it isn't "supported", for the simple fact that.. as you have found out.. if your client isn't already updated, it wont work. -
I'm sad I missed the first run last week, but I can't make it to this one either. I work every other Sunday, so I guess I'll catch up to you guys on Sister Psyche the week after?
Good luck! -

... where you can build in some of what you get in Incarnate boosts into the others (building for more recharge, bonus damage or some such) for when you exemplar, and then alter the build for the Incarnate build.
I've said it before, though - I think we'll find *more* use for the third build (or second, if you don't use it) once we see the rest of the Incarnate slots opening up. It may end up as a radically different high-end build.
In the end, you can use all 3 for whatever you want, but that was their apparent intention.
Quote:During the Betas where we tested the Alpha Slot one piece of feedback that we received was that the Alpha Slot abilities do not work when you exemplar down, and the abilities themselves compensate for some Enhancements you may have on your character. These two things do not play well together, exemplaring down means using the Enhancements you have slotted, but it may not be generating the desired effect since you no longer have your Alpha ability running.
Our solution to this dilemma was to add in an unlockable third build, granted when characters unlock the Alpha slot. This gives the players the flexibility they have asked for in slotting their charactesr for exemplaring, as well as slotting them for Incarnate abilities and still including whatever they were using their second slot for (soloing, grouping, PvP, etc.) Unfortunately, this feature of the system slipped through the cracks and a patch note was never generated for it. It’s in there and works right now, you just might not have been fully aware. Using the third build is not an exploit or a bug, it’s working as intended by us.
Since you now have the potential for three builds, we’ll be granting a 3rd freespec with this issue on Wednesday December 15th.
Sorry for missing that patch note,

Quote:Nice edit there, but thanks.. I saw it the first time.Guess so, I extrapolated the "Don't feed the trolls" smiley to mean you thought Aett was the troll, and I was nourishing him. Perhaps I should look up a smiley to English translator. Does google have one?
If we are all joking here, and we all know that we are all joking... why all the frustration? -
Update your last petition and say the problem persists, and see if they can clear the mission for you or do whatever else needs to be done to get the toon out of it's current state.
