  2. You don't have to have 2 separate CoH installs. You can run more than one copy of the game at the same time. You just can't have the updater itself open more than once.

To answer your question, here are shortcuts you can use, (similar to what you were thinking):
    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -fullscreen 0 -screen 800 600
    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -fullscreen 0 -screen 1920 1200

Also, you can expand on that and skip the updater with the following examples:
    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh -fullscreen 0 -screen 800 600
    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh -fullscreen 0 -screen 1920 1200

I think that's right. If not, I'm sure somebody will come along and correct me. lol

You guys are really unhelpful. How stupid can this company be NOT to run their patches on a bittorrent client, a solution that is universally known to work for everyone?

No I am not running on satellite, and the amount of people running on satellite is so small it makes your suggestion rather useless to most. I'm on cable, never ever had any connection problems to anything. Heck, I even run my own dedicated server for live video conferencing for my website so I know a thing or two about running connections.

[/ QUOTE ] Considering we had somebody post just the other day using satellite, I didn't think that question was out of line. It's been brought up several times in the past, and a common cause for your issue. That's why it was brought up.

While it's not the ONLY cause for your issue, it's an easy first question, and if that was the case, somebody would post the workaround. If it wasn't the case, we can usually move forward with something else like the standard CoH_Helper and HiJackThis reports requested from the stikied "Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines" thread.

Like BayBlast said, being rude doesn't get you anywhere. I can tell you most of us are not having an issue getting in right now, so there must be a connection problem somewhere... either at your end, or somewhere in between. You make it sound like you know more about this than we do, so I guess there is nothing else I can suggest for you. Good luck.
  4. Have you tried a Newspaper mission or something else in the meantime to see if it's happening there too? If not, just /petition the mission so they might be able to figure out what's going on.

To answer your question, NO.. I've been playing both normal and AE missions most of the night and did not encounter any strange issues like you are describing, nor have I heard anybody else complaining about it.
  5. IIRC, there is a large room up ahead that takes an obscene amount of time to load (compared to others), and causes that little delay. I have my viscale turned up to 4, and I can usually see the room appear in the distance immediately after that little delay. It used to be a longer delay on my older computer.

Other people have speculated a missing cutscene pointer in that location causing the delay, but I don't think that's the case.

In short, I don't think the problem is at your end. I think most people encounter the same thing at that position, but with varying delay times.
  6. The only time I see them "zig zag" is when they try to follow you to your location, and you move.. they keep going until they get to that destination, then are re-directed to your new position. This can happen on the ground, as well as in the air.
  7. No, they are not currently down. Are you using satellite internet? There seem to be issues with that for some reason.
  8. My only other concern is making sure we are all the same lvl range as whoever the mission holder is each week.

The one exception to this is the Eden Task Force. There's a bug in it so that if the leader isn't 39-41, the TF won't start.

[/ QUOTE ] I thought they fixed that a long time ago.

[/ QUOTE ] Out of curiosity, what driver version are you reporting now? The other card could have been old, overheating, or damaged over time by any number of things. It's hard to say at this point. Glad you are getting better numbers now though.

Don't 8.xx version numbers indicate a Window 7 driver or was that DirectX 11? Or is nVidia simply breaking naming convention again?

For reference, I have WinXP with the same driver and it shows:

You can never use a single box set code more than once.

[/ QUOTE ] This. You'll have to use a credit card or time/game card to extend your subscription. You can also use a different type of retail code to extend your sub another 30 days. Either way, you'll still have to pick up the other booster pack separately.

Beavis: Yeah! Fast! heh heh, heh heh.
Butthead: Shut up Beavis. I was just kidding. Mhz is slow. huh huh.
Beavis: Oh yeah! I thought it was Ghz.
Butthead: Don't make me monkeyslap you.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist. lol

OP: Is your desktop resolution the same as the one you are using in-game? Using different resolutions in fullscreen mode have been known to cause slower switching (not 30 seconds long, but hopefully we'll be able to see something else causing the extended delay when we get the reports requested above).

Do I need to do anything special to get the contact? Sorry to ask so many questions, this is my first higher level villain.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes , Arbiter Rein is the contact you have to see to choose your patron arc. He is located just outside the main doors in Grandville.

First power can be selected at lvl 41.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Just a clarification for those who don't know:
The arc has to be yours to get credit for unlocking the patrons.. It isn't unlocked by doing the missions, but by seeing the contact when you are done. Nobody will get the badge or unlock the patron powers except for the mission holder (and those following along auto-completing their own arc).

    <QR>
I'll EX down on Robin if needed, or I'll run Longbow. Or I can sk up with my bot/dark MM in hopes to level up close enough to open up the patron for one of the next Patron runs. I can also choose a patron on Longbow, so I'll save that for a future run as well. This way, we can make sure we will be able to experience all 4 arcs in the coming weeks.

An aside: I did GW's arc on both my lvl 50 villains, so if there are too many people, I don't mind opting out for this one so somebody else can run it instead.

    10Gb? ... ouch.

I'll find the guide - essentially, copy the installer (COHUpdater.exe) to the desktop. Run it. When it asks for a location, change it to the new drive. Let it *start* (barely) the install, so it creates the folder... then move everything over.

    (At least as I recall.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't see that any of that is necessary....just cut/paste over.

[/ QUOTE ] Well, you are both right. It might be simpler to just copy/paste it over, THEN use the above updater copy to let the installer point the registry to the new directory where it will find the files and let you play the game. Copy/pasting alone will not work.

Are you running any kind of taunt aura? Those tend to interrupt zombie explosions.

[/ QUOTE ] This. Their [Kamikaze] power is interruptible, so there are many things that can prevent it from successfully going off. That should be true for any of the Embalmed though, not just Abominations.

"autorun 1" is the same as "++forward"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, "autorun 1" is the same as "++autorun"
"++forward" is the same as "forward 1"

They may seem the same at first because they both move you forward, but ++forward is disabled by pressing forward again, whereas ++autorun can be disabled by pressing either forward or backward as well, which people find more convenient sometimes.

My point is: You can select any patron pool once you unlock them. You don't have to run that patron just because you want those powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, it's been a while since I ran the Patron Arcs & I know that they changed where you can respec out of a specific patron into a new one.

But I did not know that you can (initially) choose whichever Patron Power Pool you wish, regardless of which Patron Arc you run.

    Interesting bit of info.

[/ QUOTE ] The old way, the specific Patron's badge didn't automatically give you the powerset, it simply unlocked that set as a choice when selecting your next power.

The new way does the same thing, but simply unlocks all of them instead. Just like hero-side, once you select one, the other options disappear when selecting your next power.

I agree they were slightly unclear about that when they initially advertised the ability to respec into the sets. I'm assuming they said it that way just to clarify it for the many who had already selected one. They probably thought people would still select the Patron they initially wanted, but rest easy to know they could always change it later (not necessarily realizing they would have all 4 options once it was unlocked, because they might have already made their initial choice anyway).

don't go jumping all over me like i was completely wrong.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes it's a control item, and you were right there, but you were trying to say it was come kind of trickery to get it on the ceiling. You were corrected and if you had left it alone at that point, it wouldn't have been a big deal. You then referred to somebody else who posted a link to the item (that shows it placed correctly on the ceiling) and were WRONG when you tried to re-corrected them again to say it was just some kind of trickery.

I'm not trying to jump on you, just keeping the facts straight. It IS an arcane control item, and it DOES hang from the ceiling, but it's not upside down. It belongs there. It's no trick.
  22. One such problem being the fullscreen cursor errors while using widescreen resolution. Placing enhancements was quite the chore until I got used to how it worked (or didn't work). That was the most annoying problem I ever ran into while playing. That problem seemed to be card-specific and was not present in newer ATI models. It did seem to crop back up for some people, but all you had to do was use windowed mode to correct it (which seems to increase performance anyway).

Like you said, there are slight workarounds to almost any issue you encounter anyway, so it all depends on what is more important to any one person. We also don't know their intentions as far as other games/applications go. Neither you or I can make those judgments for somebody else.

I never said I didn't feel NVidia wasn't overall better than ATI, but I'm not going to tell other people not to buy one. They are still great cards, so that's for them to decide.

For this case, based on the OP's other posts, they seem set on getting NVidia anyway.
  23. /macro jump "up 1"

    Then press spacebar to stop.

Personally, this would not be a good feature for me cause I like to time the release of my jump manually so I can land on certain rooftops to make navigating easier in some places.

Also, you don't have to hold spacebar while you are on your way down anyway.
  24. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make. The mission files are pretty easy to read. I've manually added a few things to mine as well, including a 6th and 7th mission.. but I have to point out the game is still going to do it's own error-checking on it once you load it in-game, and while it will show all 7 missions, it wont let you run or publish it. The hard part to such an application would be duplicating the error-checking to make sure you are using foes in the correct lvl ranges, etc.

Also, such a program would not be able to edit already-published arcs.

Okay, in that case, let me pose a second question.

Should custom MA critters give more xp/tickets if their difficulty is set higher? The idea seems to fit in well with the dev's idea of risk vs. reward. More powers to use means more risk to the player, so a larger reward seems logical.

[/ QUOTE ] But I think the Devs have made it quite clear that AE is not intended to be a place to earn rewards, but a place to tell stories.

[/ QUOTE ]This I disagree on. I think people are taking what the devs said out of context, if it wasnt meant for rewards then why give tickets at all or why give xp/inf at all? Its meant to be another alternative for content because the devs simply cant keep up with player demand.

[/ QUOTE ] They give tickets and some rewards so you still have motivation to play and experience other player's stories, but it's not supposed to be a direct alternative to playing Dev created content, and as such, isn't treated with the same risk-vs-reward scaling.

Personally, I like encountering the more challenging foes once in a while because they are more of a challenge and more fun. I'm not concerned with the extra minutes I spend on the mission and not getting the extra few inf to compensate.
