    Resolution Bug!

    [ QUOTE ]

    Driver Version: 7.15.0011.7779
    Driver Date: 7/27/2008 12:18:00 AM

    [/ QUOTE ]
The 177.79 drivers were notorious for causing exactly what you describe, and what I see in your screenshot.

Upgrade to 185.85 like Texas_Justice suggests.
  2. AFAIK, nothing has changed.

Yes, the Arachnos Flyer does respawn every 20 minutes (starting from when the mission is first loaded). You can get 2 merits for killing it each time.

The Towers (Red, Blue, Orange, Green) do not respawn, but an Arachnos Repairman can heal it. After you start taking them down, be careful of knockback while you are working on the other towers so you don't knock them back into a downed tower. They CAN rebuild a downed tower.

    5. Copy the original installation over the new installation

[/ QUOTE ]Installing a full version and then immediately overwriting the installation is quite a messy way to do it. The updater file itself can easily install the registry properly, which is all you need. Besides.. not everybody has a "hard copy" disc installation.

    [ QUOTE ]
This way you'll keep your screenshots and your demorecords.

[/ QUOTE ] If they are in your CoH folder, and you copy the folder, you'd keep them anyway.

For the experts who are comfortable changing their registry:
You can export your CoH section to a *.reg file and then import it onto the new OS registry. That will transfer over your client graphics preferences as well. Providing you put the files into the same directory you had before, you shouldn't have to make any manual edits.

(They give you a tailor token for every slot you have. So if you have five costumes you get five tokens.)

[/ QUOTE ] I had forgotten about that. That would account for some of my variances as well.

On a side note, I just checked one of my newer characters as well (4 months old). He doesn't have any free tailor sessions. I don't know if that's because I used them, or that we didn't get any for i14.

I also checked one that was created after i12, but before i13 (i don't remember exactly when). I never really use him and found 3 unclaimed sessions there. He has 2 costume slots, and I know I did use one session... so that tells me we were granted at least 2 sessions per slot within the last year.

Go back to Driver 185.85. 186.18 isn't working for a lot of people, me included.

[/ QUOTE ] To clarify, it might only be affecting Windows 7 users. So far, everybody I've seen having the black screen with 186.18 has had Win7. I have 186.18 on XP and it works just fine. I'm not sure about Vista. Some people say it works fine, but others have the black screen also.

In either case, going back to 185.85 should work for the OP anyway.

Every issue, and sometimes inbetween issues, you get one costume change token per costume slot on each character. Even if you don't have a million to spare on your 50s, you've probably got a costume token. Or *checks his oldest toon* 30+. Failing that, log out in Icon for 24 hours (no sneaking in ealry, or the counter starts over!) and get a 25% discount coupon.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not quite "Every" issue. I think it's been a year or two since they gave out a round of free tokens. Yeah, I have a character with 54 tokens or something, but most of my fairly new characters have zero.

Anything that pulls inf out of this game is a good thing in my mind.

[/ QUOTE ] No way it's been two years, because I have a metric <bleep!>tonne on several toons, and I get my 24 month badge in about a month.

I get my 12 month badge in a couple days on my second account, and have a pile on my oldest toons there.

[/ QUOTE ]This. I agree there isn't necessarily one given at every new issue, but there is usually one given every time a costume is changed or added. This can be during a full issue release, but it can also be during a regular update. Within the last 2 years there should have been several tokens given. For example, when the Wedding, Roman, Cyborg, Valkyre, and Magic costumes were added.. at the very least.

    Edit:
I just checked a character that I created at i12's release (13 months ago), and she has 9 unclaimed free tailor sessions, not including Vet Rewards or free sessions I may have already used. That's fairly significant for only 1 year.

    Edit 2:
Going back to my first character (36 months ago that I never use), he only has 21 remaining,
but my main character (created 35 months ago) has 38 remaining.

While free tokens do stack with each other, maybe you you have to log the character in at some point between updates to be awarded more than one at a time?

Another character I frequently use (32 months old) has 25.
Yet another character I use a lot (only 20 months old) has 31.
A character I created the same day as above (only 20 months old) has 24.
Another pre-i12 character (18 months) only has 3 remaining.
And my Widow (post i12 - 11 months) has 10 remaining. (and I know have used a few on this one)

Note: These large variances are not due to me using dozens of free tokens at a time. A few of these characters only have 1 costume that hasn't changed since creation (other than adding cape/aura). I make a major change and stick with it.

Well to actually answer the OP finally.. I just did an easy channel search:

"AE Freedom" looks like it currently has 1270 members. You can try there.

My OP was looking for Task forces, not AE

[/ QUOTE ] Oops... I guess I meant that as a response to Nod. lol

My friend and I had a long discussion about influence. Here's how I undersand it based on our conversation.

Influence is not money. It's how well known you are and how willing people are to give you things... for free.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good explanation. Doesn't work as well for villains, but well enough I suppose.

But why do I get Inf for doing FAKE missions in AE?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The public sees your hard work and dedication while your are "training". Maybe it's like staying fit by going to the gym. lol
  9. You should have a \City of Heroes\ directory that contains the full client.

I have to point out that simply copying the files wont work though.

Once you copy the files back over, you'd still have to "reinstall" the registry to make it work. You can do this by copying the updater file to your desktop, and when it asks you where to install, select the location that you moved the \City of Heroes\ directory to.

Then when the patcher runs, it will see the current game files already there, and allow you to play without having to do any re-downloading.

No, Claws is right. You should be able to play until 6PM tomorrow. At least that's been my experience.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know this to be true because I was trying to submit a forum post at the exact moment my subscription expired. Jun 17, 2009 at 10:39 PM to be exact. I got the "Game Account Expired" email at the exact same time too. Soon after I realized that I forgot to put the new credit card on my account.

[/ QUOTE ] This is true. When "30 days" is added to your account, it's 30 days from 6pm to 6pm (for example)..

Apparently, account status is only checked at login though.. (I'm referring to the game, not the forum).. which means theoretically, even if you log in at 5:59pm, you can stay logged in until server maintenance (or you crash). Then you wont be able to log back in.

Like ClawsandEffect said.. Veteran Rewards work the same way too. They are awarded when you log in after that specific time of day.

Sharker_Quint, did you happen to subscribe very late at night or early in the morning. Maybe your account just happens to be flagged around midnight? lol

Glad someone is actually testing the 186.18 drivers and reporting on whether they work.

Out of curiosity Mateo, what OS version are you running that on?

[/ QUOTE ] Sorry.. I should have clarified..

I'm using XP, just like the OP in this thread.

Strangely enough, I'm also using almsot the same exact motherboard too. haha
    My processor is quad though.

When Cimerora was introduced, there was many holes in the map. I've been behind the wall also, but I didn't leave any characters there.

I do have characters in other places where they aren't supposed to be though, like a lvl 50 in Outbreak, and a character in the "Matrix Room".

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Matrix Room? Hmmmm I am unfamiliar with this one. Care to elaborate for me please?

I say it would mean the following:
The public sees you being rewarded for your work and though you have not necessarily been forgotten (as you put it), they feel they no longer owe you anything... (until you do something else deserving of more inf).

    [/ QUOTE ]

And they feel they owe me more (100 million influence) because I sold a Miracle: +Recovery? That's the only flaw I see with that logic.

[/ QUOTE ] You inherit the influence from the person you sold it to. Good deeds were done and you rewarded that person, but you still need to be compensated for the item you had...
  15. <QR>

I just installed 186.18 just to check.. and logged back in...

The game loaded just fine and I'm jumping around and using powers without any issues.

To make it clear: 185.85 is not a new driver. That's the old one.

I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.

Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Must you brainlessly spam every thread with that post?

[/ QUOTE ] When people don't read the information provided ahead of time.. they are pointed in that direction. What's wrong with that? If he didn't post it.. somebody else would have. It's commonly requested information, and it's helpful.

I have a GeForce 9600GT, and the 185.85 drivers too... and I don't have any issues.

    Just sayin..
  19. [ QUOTE ]
There are ways to get back there. I have been teleported back there by a teammate. I am unaware of the method to get back there. My teammate was also unaware and was also teleported by another.

Complete hearsay overhead in a global channel: Someone received a "probationary period" for leaving a toon back behind the wall.

[/ QUOTE ] When Cimerora was introduced, there was many holes in the map. I've been behind the wall also, but I didn't leave any characters there.

I do have characters in other places where they aren't supposed to be though, like a lvl 50 in Outbreak, and a character in the "Matrix Room".

As for getting a "probationary period", that might be if they teleported somebody behind the wall, but they had no way to easily get themself out. I got a "warning" for TPing somebody to the Matrix Room and they didn't have the Ouro power to get out (as if I wouldn't have put one down for him, or TP'd him out myself). Some jerks report you for anything. Be careful out there. lol

That said.. the GM knows my character was there and didn't TP me out, and he's still there today. I'm not sure you'd get in trouble for leaving your own character there, as long as you aren't doing anything fishy. I wish I brought one behind the wall before the holes were sealed though. lol
  20. Also.. SOs don't have "set" categories like IOs do.

To use your Quick Recovery example:
You wouldn't need any extra slots to replace the SOs with regular IOs.
But if you wanted to use an IO set and take advantage of some of the set bonuses that come with it.. you might have to slot differently.

Try learning how to use KB to your advantage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This quote is easier said than done. With all of the craziness that happens in some missions, having to limit your playstyle to please others isnt something a player should be subject to.

[/ QUOTE ] Nobody said it's always easy. It's just having to use a different tactic instead of standing in the back of the pack setting off powers.

If people complain about the KB, try moving your position and/or changing your target to so it directs the KB in a different way. Try knocking the foes together, or toward the team, instead of apart or away from the team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like I said, changing a playstyle that's fun for you to satisfy others isn't right. The fire blaster can set his feet and hammer away, so can the elec/, and ice/. I'm just saying, it sucks sometimes.

[/ QUOTE ] Like I said.. find a team that suits your needs... or a group of "friends" that wont complain about it. There are plenty of them out there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All I'm saying is, being forced to play with a side effect that obviously frustrates many players isnt good. Yeah I can make another build, but I shouldnt have to.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Like you said: "changing a playstyle that's fun for you to satisfy others isn't right"

    That goes both ways..
Some people like fighting the foe right in front of them without having to chase them down when somebody else knocks them away.

Just saying.. try to compromise. That hold true for any tactic or playstyle, not just KB.

If you don't like the build, or the side effects that came with it.. you shouldn't have chosen it... or like everybody has been saying.. adjust the tactic to the situation/team.

Knockback is [u]ALWAYS[u] radial from caster, no matter what kind of attack it is. ALWAYS. No exceptions.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That may be technically correct, but it is unduly confusing. It's much easier to explain to a non-geeky CoX player that enemies are KB-ed from the point of origin.

With PBAoE the origin is the player. i.e. Foot Stomp
With Targeted AoE the origin is the targeted enemy. i.e. M30 Grenade
With Location AoE the origin is any valid surface set by the player via the targeting 'hypno circles'. i.e. bonfire

[/ QUOTE ] Unfortunately, I'm going to have to disagree with your diagnosis. Fleeting had it right.

I tested this myself after seeing this thread. My test powers were [Explosive Blast] the [LRM Rocket] and even the [M30 Grenade] that you used as your example. Each of these powers are Targeted AoE, and in EVERY case, all affected foes were knocked back away from ME... not from the targeted foe (unless I stood next to that foe, lol).

In summary, with a targeted AoE, the origin of the KB is still yourself, not the foe you targeted... just like Fleeting said.
