Just as a heads up, as City of Heroes is a 32bit application, it can only use 3.5 gigs of RAM.
[/ QUOTE ] 32-bit Operating systems have a memory allocation limit of 4GB, yes.. but the 32-bit applications themselves are limited to only 2GB, iirc. -
Well, double XP is finally almost here, and so is another one of my monthly Calendars. lol
I have the next 2 months completed and included the links to them in my Sig as well.

But at least you knew the entrance to it was on the northeast end of PI...
[/ QUOTE ] Wasn't that the entrance to the Rikti Crash Site?
[/ QUOTE ]
Northeastern end of PI is Portal Corp in it's entirety - which includes the no-longer-there RWZ portal outside, and the Shadowshard portal inside.
[/ QUOTE ]
LoL My bad.
I was thinking he said "northeast end of Portal Corp", which is where the RCS portal was.

And yeah, really looking forward to this. *Evil laugh Pause* Doh. They probably fixed the Rikti Drone bug so I can't look forward to the huge re-exploding mobs. Oh well.
[/ QUOTE ] Indeed. Their animation was fixed. -

For those of you familiar with this strategy, on the final mish of the ITF, it used to be possible to pull Romulus away from the Nictus by aggroing him immediately after the cutscene ended and then running back, leading him away from the Nictus.
On the last 3 ITF's I ran, I was unable to do it, and I don't know if I was just really off my game, or if there was a fix to prevent this from happening. Anyone know?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ignoring what this thread has become, and whether or not glitching him is an exploit or if it's "right or wrong" to use this method...
I will admit that I have used this trick and taught others how to do it for a long time now. Matter of fact, I just explained it in detail again in a post about 48 hours ago after somebody else claiming that it doesn't always work anymore.
Either the person trying to "break" Rom was too slow getting to the platform, or they didn't understand enough about the mechanics of the situation to make sure it would work.
In short, I have used it a few times this week, even as recently as last night, and it still works without a problem (when done correctly).
(I wont be upset if they "fix" it, but as long as it still works, I'll keep doing it. It's not like it's THAT much of an exploit anyway. He's usually easy anyway. I do it just to make fun of Rom. lol) -

Turning off indexing is one of the first things I do on any Wndows OS. It's a resource hog that's constantly running... constantly... it never finishes indexing... it will continue to ping your hard drive... rzzrzr... rzrzrzr.... rzrzzrz... What is doing that?.. <searches running programs...> rzrzr... Nothing is running... rzrzr... MAKE IT STOP!!!!
[/ QUOTE ] I hate indexing and disable it as well. Either way, a search should eventually find the shots without a problem.
And while we are on the subject, I'm kinda curious about something. Why was the screenshot name format changed? It was stealth-changed with i15's release. Either that, or I missed the patch note or a preference that controls this.
Example of old format:
screenshot_2009-06-26-22-05-01.jpg
That picture was taken on 6/26/09 at 10:05pm and 1 second.
Multiple shots within one second were indicated by an additional _1, _2, _3, etc. added to the filename.
Example of new format:
creenshot_090702-00-04-36.jpg
That picture was taken on 7/2/09 at 12:04am and 36 seconds.
Multiple shots within one second are still indicated the same way as before.
Was the old format really that confusing? lol -

Sounds identical to me.
[/ QUOTE ] It's very close, but it does sound a little higher pitched and hollow than it used to be... I might not have noticed if it wasn't for this thread. That's how close it is.
My only guess is.. the drum is actually using more than one sound... the main one is not changed at all, but the other might be slightly different due to the changes in the footstep sounds?
I'm not saying that's definitely true, but I'm throwing it out there as a possibility.
For example, the sound the portals make in PI are actually many sounds mixed together... one of them being the Train Track sounds. If they ever changed the way the Trains sound, the portals would sound ever so slightly different as well, and possibly cause a similar discussion.
Even if a Dev said they never sought out to change the Drum sound, it doesn't mean that it wasn't unintentionally changed by another sound effect (unless the drum is not multiple sounds, and the same sound sample is not re-used for something else and unchanged).
Then again, I could simply just be mis-remembering what it sounded like before. It's not like I purposely listened to and evaluated it before this. lol -

Does 64bit vista still have that issue where it only shows/uses a maximum of 3GB RAM even when it has 4GB?
[/ QUOTE ] CoH is a 32-bit program so it shouldn't use more than 2 gig (or maybe 3 gig if you get tricky). It hardly matters, though, as I don't think this game uses even two gig.
[/ QUOTE ] Agreed. While 32-bit Operating systems are limited to 4GB total memory allocation, the 32-bit applications themselves are normally limited to 2GB of usage. I've never seen CoH get dangerously close to 2GB myself, but it gets to 1.5GB fairly easily. I'm wondering if we'll all start having memory problems after the next few issue releases. lol
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure what you are talking about wrt showing more than 3 gig of ram. That sounds more like a 32-bit OS problem.
[/ QUOTE ] The only thing I found in reference to this was that apparently there were some earlier versions of Vista released and labeled as 64-bit, but were actually the 32-bit version... and/or many people assumed that Vista was automatically a 64-bit, and didn't realize there was a 32-bit version with the same memory limitation, and complained about it not working correctly.
Either way.. I would have hoped the miscommunication and misconception has long been cleared up by now. lol -

Wait, what?? If you get the mapserver message then it sends you to the log-in screen, there's no prompt to ask you what to do. I'm not following?
[/ QUOTE ] My guess is AA means that when you disconnect, you can normally just log right back in, but they seem to be getting denied as if the servers are down (telling me there is something wrong with the connection somewhere).
I think AA was just trying to clarify the type of disconnect by saying that they are not crashing, not being booted to desktop, and not being forced to verify files or anything. It seems to be a simple lost connection that wont reconnect.
The strange part about this scenario is that it sounds like restarting the client is allowing AA to log back in normally. That's a normally unnecessary step they would like to avoid. For that, we can only speculate the cause without more information, but I can say I haven't been experiencing the same thing. -
I think you mentioned your birthday a few weeks back, so I wrote it down on my calendar.
Sorry for the late thread. I just got home from work.
I hope you had a good one Buddy! -

I'm sure someone has tried this, cause I'm in no way a badge expert: What happens if you leave the MISSION after #9, and the team beats Mary without you?
[/ QUOTE ]
This is how it is done.
To have all 10, you have to get 10 Times the Victor THEN run the task force another time defeating the first 9 Marys and leave the mission before the tenth Mary is defeated. Your team can defeat her, you just can't help.
[/ QUOTE ] You can't have all 10. If you already have #10, they will all disappear the moment you are awarded #9 again.
The best you can have is 9 of them, either by having 1-9, or by having #10 and leaving after getting 1-8 again.
At least that's my experience. If there is a more complicated trick to getting all 10.. I'm game to try it. lol -

I have got to admit. I'm surprised by the conviction and varying results regarding what color Sally cons. I personally love Croatoa, and I've seen Sally con every color available. From Grey to Purple, to everything in between (I distinctly remember seeing her con Blue once).
Which is why I am solidly confused by the discrepancy.
[/ QUOTE ]My guess is that at least one of her spawns is presenting con color based on her level (30, I believe), causing people below 30 to see purple and above 30 to see gray, whereas the other spawns are correctly presenting a static con color of yellow.
[/ QUOTE ] I checked her several times since last night. I saw about 10 different spawns at various times while on different characters:
I found her while I was on a:
lvl 50 on Heroic,
lvl 50 on Invincible,
lvl 50 (EX'd to 32) on Heroic,
lvl 50 (EX'd to 32) on Invincible,
lvl 25-ish on Heroic,
lvl 25-ish on Invincible,
lvl 15-ish on Heroic,
lvl 15-ish on Invincible.
lvl 15-ish (SK'd to 31) on Heroic,
lvl 15-ish (SK'd to 31) on Invincible.
In all cases, she conned Yellow for me. (That was 3 different characters viewing Sally on several different occasions.)
I'm going with: There was a change at some point. If there is a lost spawn of her somewhere.. I have not seen it recently at all. -

I only want one thing from the new boards. Everything else is fluff.
When I click on a thread topic... I want to be taken to the first post in that thread. Not tossed somewhere seemingly random and forced to scroll up to find the OP.
That's it. Too much to ask?
Oh and a pony.
[/ QUOTE ]
On the current BB, it doesn't take you to a random post in the thread, it takes you to the first unread post in the thread since you last accessed that thread or forum as a whole.
[/ QUOTE ] Fixed. After a certain period of time after accessing the forum, it seems to mark everything as read, and only shows you new posts after that point in time. Clicking on a thread you never looked at before would bring you to the first new post since you were logged in, not necessarily the first new one since you looked at it.
I slightly agree with Chocolate_Bacon on this one. If I stop reading the forum and do a TF instead... after a certain period of time, it acts as if I had already read everything, and only shows me which posts are new within the last hour or so (since my last activity on the boards). Then I end up just looking at my last reply and clicking my way up, just guessing which ones I have not looked at yet.
I'd like it to "save my spot" so I don't have to rush to read everything before I go to work. Otherwise, I miss posts or entire threads sometimes. -
If you are disconnecting, and can't get back on, it sounds to me it's the network having the issue in this case. It might not be you. It might not be the servers, but possibly some point inbetween blocking your connection.

It sounds like you are using the wrong emote, since ;drumlow gives the "snare drum" sound. If that's not the case you might want to try Verifying your files, since both ;drum and ;drumlow work normally for me.
[/ QUOTE ]
I confirmed with 4 other players last night before I sent in the ticket. I know the difference between /e drum and /e drumlow. I was using /e drum and the sound was the same slow beat of /e drum (not the fast beat of /e drumlow) but sounded like a weak snare drum instead of a big bass drum.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, maybe something was weird for all four of you?
I just tested both emotes, IN THE PAST 60 SECONDS, and they work perfectly and sound just the same way they always have. The /drum emote sounds like a kettle drum.
[/ QUOTE ] I just tested it as well. I believe the large drum does sound slightly different, but not the drastic change the OP makes it seem. -

Back in the early days/beta of Ultima Online, the arrows had very slow flight speeds so you could be "chased" by an arrow very far. The "to-hit" roll was determined the instant the arrow was fired but the damage was not applied until it hit it's target.
We used to call it the "Heat Seeking Arrow"
[/ QUOTE ] I do that with Lusca all the time. You can see the ink (or whatever) chasing you in the water. lol -
IMG tags are disabled here so you can't put an image directly within your post.
You can only use a URL to link to an image.
URL syntax is as follows:
[url=http://www.cityofheroes.com/]CoH Homepage[/url]
Using the above code will look like this:
CoH Homepage
To link to an image, simply use the image's URL, like I did in my signature. -

It's the attitudes, for example calling them "AE babies", "braindead children" etc., that I feel works against what you hope for. Some already have a negative feeling toward anyone who has participated in AE, right or wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are absolutely right about that, and I apologize if I offended anyone who I called a braindead child, but the fact is that you think it repeatedly lately. For example, we ran a Posi TF yesterday. About 30 min into the TF, 3rd mission, one of the members said "how long will this take?" I replied, we're on #4 of 16, so maybe 90min or so depending on the group. He replies, thats too long, i'm outta here....BAM drops group...30 seconds later, the healer says yeah this is really boring, not like the real game....BAM drops group. Later in the day, after the TF, I load onto one of my low level toons in AP and do you know what I saw? Not just 1 but both of them screaming in Broadcast for high level AE missions! Did I say anything to them? no, was I thinking anything....YES.
[/ QUOTE ] That happened WAY before AE ever came around. If you want to prevent it, it's a smart thing to advertise your intentions and how long you expect the TF to take. Make sure everybody acknowledges before you "Accept Task". You can't assume that everybody knows what a TF is, or how long they take.. especially at the Positron level range.
Can't blame AE for everything.
(No, I don't use AE or farm in any way, and I agree with the theme of this thread. I just don't think this was a good example.) -

[/ QUOTE ] LoL
My point was I don't think that's not enough constant damage to make it worth the time. Those methods of causing damage would most likely take much longer than any current method of farming the healing badges, so I don't think it would be worth it for people to bother wasting time camping at a green inspiration vendor.
The point is, letting self-heals count wouldn't cause any major exploit (unless it doens't work as intended when implemented), but it adds more choices for "non-healing" characters to earn the badge without having to resort to exploits (arena farming).
