Make a new shortcut to:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh
That will allow you to skip the updater/verifying and go straight to the login screen.
(Change the path as needed for your own installation directory)
Run the normal shortcut and let it verify during a food break, or even wait for the next time there is an update. -

Quote:I had stepped aside to give Scruffy the spot earlier. I wouldn't have brought Tabby anyway. I have been earning a lot of progress toward my influence badges this weekend, so I'm playing exclusively on MB.MB, you should have come to the ITF. Instead they had to put up with my poor excuse for tanking. It wasn't pretty. Imagine Crazy Kitty mode only about 3x worse. We did complete it however. ;-)
About crazy-kitty mode... come on man. You can't do that without everybody being on the same page. I don't know what the team was composed of, but you usually need secondary aggro control as well to pull that off.
*shakes head side to side. lol -

Maybe not, but the OP did. The title of the thread is "an apology is needed", and the post goes on to to ask for an extension of the event to compensate.
Other than that, based on your past post, it appears you and I agree. I never said you weren't entitled to your opinion or had no right to be a little upset. I have a right to my own opinion as well, and I'm trying to be a bit more realistic about it. There are other options than playing a high level character that can make money/prestige easily any time. Make the best of things and take the opportunity to do something that you don't normally do. I don't see why anybody is surprised when the servers don't act the way they normally do during events such as this. I know this isn't your first Double-XP weekend. -
Quote:Directly above the first post is a toolbar on the right side:How do you subscribe to a topic? I don't see that options anywhere but I'm kinda tired right now so it's possible I'm overlooking something that would be rather obvious to someone who hasn't been up sence 7 am and been at work till midnight.

Quote:The mall right next door is having a similar upgrade promotion. The mall isnt closed though, but the door slams on my face every few minutes making it hard to go anywhere, sadly all my items i bought there before this happened are still there, on top of this they are offering upgrades to the items I bought even though the mall is doing this.
Quote:Point of fact, all my high levels are on Protector. If they want to offer free transfers to fix the map server problem then yeah, I will move, but until then they should fix the problem once and for all. Its not to say they are not doing anything (do they take weekends off?) but people are understandably upset when an event like this goes on and they cant play the characters they WANT to level, instead of having to roll new ones..
More seriously though, servers can go down at any time for any reason, and nobody owes you anything. They have already admitted a problem exists, and taken several servers down for extra maintenance already, and apologized for the inconvenience. I know it's not an excuse, but I don't know what else you people expect. It's not possible to just snap your fingers and have a perfect internet. lolz
That aside.. as a test, I just created a new character on Protector and have been on for half an hour (in Atlas) without any mapserve issue. I was broadcasting with some people for a while and they don't seem overly upset about the performance. Sure, it's a little annoying to get the occasional mapserve, but it's not interfering with their general gameplay (their words). Sounds to me like people are overreacting, using systems that can't handle a little extra network stress, or the issue was just temporary.
If anything, hanging out in Atlas on Protector was 100 times more network-friendly than Atlas on Freedom. I even ran a few missions to test teaming/zoning and AE.
Sorry, I don't see the problem here. -

Then you are on the wrong server. They posted announcements about problems with it. Why are you surprised?
If the mall in your area had a fire and was closed for the weekend.. but you had some shopping to do.. would you go to the next town, wait til they reopened, or sift through the rubble? -

Quote:I'm on Freedom. I've been on all day and earned quite a hefty amount towards my Influence badges running regular teams. I've seen several similar teams. It's not like we can't log in like what happens on Freedom on 2xp weekend. We can, we just can't play and have fun.
If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong. -

Good luck on the Khan TF and ITF! I have been running Radio missions all day and need a small break anyway, so I told E to give up my spot. I guess it was oversold anyway, so I don't feel too bad. I don't want to bump anybody else out of the chance. If it wasn't full, I would have certainly came regardless.
I'll see you guys at the next one tomorrow! -

Quote:I updated to 3.5 and it now works MUCH better. The page still refreshes, but it does indeed bring me to the same position on the page that I was on before, making it much easier to move on to the "next" thread.I'm not having any problem with this, and I've seen it mentioned many times. Every time I've hit my back button (Firefox 3.5.1), it's taken me back to where I was before loading the subforum/post.
Thanks for specifying version, Agg. I probably wouldn't have even thought of it.
Help > Check for updates... FTW! -
Quote:This.Other than editing a shortcut with that page as your clicky or bookmark, or setting a default tab to open with the browser, those are the only ways I know of currently.
Just change your bookmark:

I don't like it either. I liked being able to leave it in the middle of a page and it remembering where I left off. Refreshing every time is inconvenient.

Yes, it's annoying, and hard to get used to, but we added it to a list of suggestions to make it bigger or something. lol -
I suggest updating your petition first, just to see what they say, but I say... slide around town and use the toon. I was given the green light to use my affected character 2 weeks after I reported it. I kinda hounded them about it a little by updating my petition a couple of times, and they finally told me:
Quote:As of right now, my character still has an extra year's worth of veteran badges and powers, and I use that character regularly.Date Created: 05/28/2009

Thank you again for being so patient during this ordeal. At this time the Development Team is still unsure what caused this to happen but it does seem as though powers and items that may have been lost are being corrected automatically. This means that anything that you may have lost access to should have become available again. If you lost access to something that you've paid for that you have not regained access to (powers, costume parts, etc), please let us know as soon as possible and please include the specific items that are missing.
We are aware that certain Vet Rewards have also been affected as a result of this issue. While it doesn't appear as though access to Vet Rewards was lost, we are aware of some cases in which players gained access to Vet Rewards that they were not yet eligible for. If you have gained access to such rewards, we encourage you not to use them as they could cause problems with your character in the future when the bug is corrected. It is perfectly fine to use the characters themselves, however.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns. -
You might be able to hover over the title to see a brief description of the post. I'd test it, but I already deleted my entire private messages. lol

Now introducing the Freedom Horde Social Group!
We don't want to flood the social group area with normal posts, so PLEASE continue to use this forum to sign up for events, and join us in-game on the "Freedom TF Chat" global channel.
The group is designed to consolidate our threads into one easy place so everybody can find the new events quickly without having to search the forum first. Use your "User CP" (located in the top-left corner of the forum) to access the "Networking > Social Groups" area. Once a member of this group, it will be listed at the top of the Social Group page for easy access.
Thank You, and enjoy the new forums! -
Quote:The thread should show as a closed envelope after you read it, but the Forum as a whole will still show unread, because there are other unread messages within that forum. It will also put an arrow on the envelope if you participated in the thread. That's different from the old forum.Ok, figured out the time thing, figured out my avatar, I now see how to tell when there are new messages in a thread... but how do you get it to accept the fact that you've now read those new messages? It's still showing threads for me that I've read as being new messages. Blargh this is ugly
If you are done browsing for the night, you can reset the entire CoH forum as read by clicking on "Quick Links" at the top, and selecting "Mark Forums Read".
