Well hopefully our information will help you complete your "research". If you can't figure it out, I'd love to see what information you've gathered. A video or something would be lovely to pick apart. For all we know, there might actually be a bug somewhere and we could help fix it for others who seem to have the same opinion as you do.

But until then, we can only tell you how it's "supposed to work", and that our own personal experiences have shown it to be working as intended, as designed, and as expected. lol

bottom line, if MA wasn't accessible from AP, it would of been someplace else and everyone would have followed. and there'd be a different excuse..
I agree. That's kinda proven by looking at Villain-side. Cap is where all the action is, yet that's not the Villain's introductory zone. But I've personally run into more Hero AE-babies, then I have Villain AE-babies.. so that's something to look at as well.

I'm inclined to believe it's the combination of the MA exploitation and it's location in AP that made it so bad. The natural inclination to create a Hero first and finding AE-spam in the first non-tutorial zone made people ask where it was when they created their Villain too. The system was exploited, but I never felt that MA content belonged in AP anyway.. before and regardless of the farming that went on anyway. New players should experience content that the Dev's created.. not the content the players do. Player content is supposed to be extra, not a replacement.

Veteran players do not fall into that category. Like he said, he doesn't have a problem with Vets farming.. an AE-baby (by definition), is a new player who grew up only in AE and knows nothing about the rest of the game. Those are the people that ask ridiculous (or what "we" think are ridiculous) questions. They aren't ridiculous for newbs, but ridiculous for a lvl 50 to have to ask somebody.

I could share some of the questions I've been asked, but you apparently wouldn't believe me either. The point is, people expect lvl 50s to at least know some basic game mechanics.. like how to get to a different zone (for example).

You know as much as I do that new people don't always know how to use the train, or click on the guard to enter the Hollows... when a new player gets a lvl 50 without ever having to zone, they still aren't going to know, and they are still going to ask the same question. Same goes for any other aspect of the game.. respecs, TFs, whatever.

Yes, people have always leveled up with regular farms and still had to ask newb questions at lvl 50, but AE made this process much easier, and it was located right in an introductory zone.. which made the "AE-babies" multiply even more. The point is, we used to be able to count on a lvl 50 at least knowing a little bit about the game they are playing, but now we can't.

What's worse is the ones who think they know everything because they reached 50 so fast, and end up trying to correct Vets about simple things that we all know are clearly wrong. It's like somebody using a walkthrough to beat Super Mario Brothers for the first time, and then claiming to know everything about it... but not even realize there are water worlds, mushroom worlds, ice worlds, etc.. because they warped past all that the first time through.
  4. The way I understand it:

ToHit affects your player as a whole. Accuracy is part of the power itself. Both are used when deciding if your attack "hits" it's target.

If you increase the Accuracy of a power, then that power has a higher chance of "hitting", whereas if you increase your ToHit, then ALL* your powers will have a greater chance of "hitting".

When a power says it gives the enemy -ACC, I believe it's actually reducing the foe's ToHit... much like when CoT hits us with [Gloom]'s -ACC, and the Combat attributes shows a ToHit decrease, which affects the overall accuracy of ALL* our powers.

*except for powers that "ignore buffs"

But this is a non-specific, shotgun targeting method because that's all Tab is good for. If I want to specifically target something, I click to target or run up to it (to limit my view) and Ctrl-Tab.
Whether Tab or Control-Tab is "default" or not, they are still binds. All I'm saying is that if they are not acting the way we are describing it to you, then your "bind" is broken, and it's apparently set to something else unexpectedly. Either that or you are misunderstanding the way it's working somehow.

The 9400GT has one of the worst performance/$ ratio out there (fix price for card manufacturing and packaging can only go so low). The 9500GT has twice the power for only a few dollars more, the GDDR3 memory version has twice the video memory bandwidth. I'm seeing a $15-20 price difference at NewEgg.
Well, I'm assuming that's the card she already has, not one she is thinking of buying for CoH... so for her, it's not just a $15-20 price difference between the cards, but a ~$60 price difference to upgrade.

Other than that, great points as always. It's probably good to include that information for the benefit of other people anyway so they don't find this post in searches and say "hey.. I'll just get that", when they'd get more for thier money with something else.

This. I noticed the same type of thing when I started using the higher quality preferences. I'm still using XP as well.

The box may be the same, and the client may be the same, but the OS isn't necessarily the only difference.

    THIS.

I've used targetenemynext since I started playing, and it's never acted crazy or random for me. It's always done exactly what I expected and targeted the closest foe (if I had nothing else targeted), and then went to the next furthest after that. Once it gets to the foe that's farthest away, it cycles back to the closest again. Maybe the confusion comes when the foes are moving around and the foe you want might actually moves closer than your current target and you don't end up targeting him as you are cycling through. I suppose that could look random to some people, but it's really not.

Even right now I'm messing with it and testing it by clearing my target (with Escape) and pressing my bind again, with the same (closest) foe being selected every time. There is nothing random about it.

I've been reported for teleporting somebody there before, but that was because the person I teleported ended up not having any sort of teleportation power or even Ouro Portal of their own. He was upset that he was stuck and my team ended up laughing about it for a few minutes before we finally gave in and laid down an Ouro portal for him.

I'd show people in-game what to do and how to get there if I'm not really doing anything at the time, but I wont TP anybody again unless I know they can get out on their own. lol

As for posting specific directions for you here.. I might have posted them somewhere already, and I don't want to cross any lines or break any more rules.. so.. I'll just mention a little bit of the game mechanics for you, and see if you can figure it out from there.

Every time you zone or log in near a doorway, your character performs the animation of exiting that doorway, even if you are a few feet away, and even if you were never inside that door to begin with. If you can find a doorway that is slightly or fully underground *cough*I see monkeys*cough*, see what happens if you relog near it.

That is correct, but because of the open ended unknown message, I like remembering it the other way around. It feels "cleaner" to me because then the whole beginning of the command remains the same, and you are only editing the end of it for each toon. You can basically write the code and THEN decide what to say, or if you make a mistake, you can arrow up to your last entry and backspace from the end instead of fishing your way to the middle of the command. lol (I'm crazy)

/bind enter "startchat$$AFK You can write whatever you want here, just remember to end it with a quotation mark. lol"

Tab will always target the least threatening enemy elements, including repeatedly skipping the ones who are directly in front of your view beating on you if you try to cycle through the targets.

I have learned to not trust Tab in a fight. I deal with it by moving myself as close to my intended target as possible to limit my view and then hitting Ctrl-Tab (default for target nearest enemy).

    Edit:
My own theory of how Tab targeting works is that as the enemies for the map are spawned, they are numbered. Tab then cycles through their numbered sequence regardless of where they are relative to you, except by line of sight (except if the obstuctions aren't rendered due to distance).
You couldn't be more wrong about that.. unless you accidentally changed TAB to "target_enemy_prev" which will incrementally target the next closest foe, starting with the one furthest away.

TAB is "target_enemy_next" by default, which will incrementally target the foe that is next farthest away from you, starting with the one that is closest.

In the example above, he was targeting a foe that might be 5 feet away, and uses "target_enemy_next". The target moves to a foe in the next mob down the hall for the exact reason he stated.. the other 2 foes attacking him were less than 5 feet away from him, which is why he prefers using "target_enemy_near" instead, which only targets the closest foe and always gives him a target he can wail away on. lol

On a side note: While I'm sure that spawns are probably somehow labeled internally on some array of numbers somewhere, it has NOTHING to do with targeting. The commands "target_friend_next" and "target_friend_prev" work the exact same way (relative to distance), so unless you're going to tell me that players are also targeted by their internal IDs and PlayerA will ALWAYS be targeted in favor of PlayerB.. I'm afraid your binds are just mixed up.

Some would argue that a 7600 is better for CoH than a 9400 anyway. The fist digit is only the series number. While the series itself may have it's own internal improvements, it's the second number that tells you more about how well it deals with graphics. Most people recommend at least a 6 for better performance, which your wife has. But the OP's friend has a 4. While it doesn't meet most people's recommended guidelines for performance, it can certainly run the game very well at lower detail... but the system's overall performance will also depend on what the other system specifications are as well.

The OP could always install CoH on her computer (depending on location) and use his account to see how it plays, but... I say, send her a refer-a-friend code and get some free time added to your account if it works out. If not, at least she tried and it didn't cost her anything.

I agree with this. I don't see any reason for them to show up on the Pet window and be targettable. I think they should act just like Eathquake or Quicksand and do their job without being targeted.

In the meantime, I guess you'd just have to use "target_NEXT" instead, which is what I personally like better anyway. If you just killed something, it'll select your next closest foe anyway, and if that happens to be a bad target like a summoned pet, I can just press it again to move on. I only use the closest target bind if I happen to have cycled through a bunch of foes looking for something specific, or changed the direction I am facing and want to "reset" it.

Personally.. I have noticed he game has certainly increased in memory usage each issue. When I started playing 3+ years ago, it would boot at about 500MB and then never go over 1GB. Slowly it has increased to booting around 900MB and get's close to 1.5GB after several hours of play. i16 gave it a little bump, but it wasn't from 800mb to 1.2GB.. maybe only an extra 50-100mb from my perspective.

The Required/Recommended System Specifications should have been increased a long time ago.
