  1. I wanted to publish this a couple weeks ago. Sorry for being a little lazy. lol

    Here is November 2009:

    Hollaween Event

There are plenty of other things to do besides wait for official events... but anyway..

It starts Tuesday morning. (There have been a few threads about this already, and it was also included in a newsletter that was sent out.)

    Starts: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 8:59 a.m. PST (11:59 a.m. EST)
    Ends: Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. PST (2:59 a.m. EST)
  3. Log into plaync.com click on your CoH game account. Then use the Refer-a-friend option listed on the right side. Have your friend sign up using the product key he gets in the invite e-mail and you'll get some free time added to your account if/when he subscribes for more than a month.

In Grandville, the thumbtacks will consistently hover about 200 feet in the air.) Mercy is the only zone where the compass will fail to actually point at the thumback, where ever it may have ended up.

If you don't use the Vidiot overlays, try this:

Go to the snake badge marker in Mercy.
    Zoom in the map.
Place a thumbtack on your position.
    Zoom the map back out.
Jump out of the pit, turn and face the badge marker.
Look at the direction indicator in the compass bar.

I can pretty much guarantee that it will *not* be indicating the point right in front of you, nor a point hundreds of feet too high or low. It'll be pointing at somewhere behind you, or at best some place half a mile away.
I just tried that and it ends up pointing to: -3700 -13 -3200 (which is under the beach near the Arachnos Base by about 25 feet.

Standing at that location and just clicking random thumbtacks around the map, I found several other locations that also point to the same exact place.

    Weird.

I'm not suggesting that the market be removed from memory the moment the window is closed, but maybe after some period of time of not accessing it, or if it's not provided automatically in some way, give us a way to clear our memory other than actually closing the client and reloading the whole thing.

/reloadgfx and /unloadgfx are the same command. It's supposed to dump the textures, and because the game is not stopping, it will automatically reload only the ones you immediately need. This is supposed to free up some memory, but it seems to have a minimal effect now.

Also, I think what Zombie is asking is if we could have a command that clears more than just the textures, because it's clear that there are several other things saved in memory while we are using the game. The only other one I know of is the /clearchat to dump the chat buffer as well.

We still have Character info from people we meet up with in game. That stuff seems to last forever. You know when you join a team and people are in different zones, you don't even know what AT they are? But once you are finally in the same zone, you'll see the AT symbol even if you move to different zones again? Well let's say for example you run on a team with somebody and then you drop from the team and do something else for a couple hours and meet up with them again later. That information is usually still in memory, and you'll see the AT symbol when joining the team, instead of the usual "mystery". I'm not sure how much memory it takes to keep this information, but it's probably not something we really need to keep for hours and hours.

That's only one of the really obvious things. I'm fairly certain the market information is also saved for hours, even after relogging, because sometimes when you switch to another character, you'll see that character's items in the window for a moment before the new character's loads. Also, your previous search from the last character is still active in the window.

Your contact list takes a moment to load the first time, but any time you click on the tab after that, it pops right up. There could be any other number of things that also save in memory, but it's seriously adding up.

    Contact Status

Not all contacts can progress to "Confident". Many people have tried what you are trying to do, and met the same issue. Some contacts just don't have many missions. I'm afraid he's stuck.

Also, you can only have 2 Major Story Arcs active at any time. It's possible to be denied another mission from a contact that still has work for you if you already have Major arcs running from 2 other contacts. Simply finish some older arcs, and the contact will finally give you theirs. I don't believe the contact you mentioned has any Major arcs though, so that probably wouldn't help you for him, but it might help you finish off a few contacts later on.

You might also want to utilize the "noxp" option so you don't outlevel content. You can always do their missions through Ouro later, but doing arcs through Ouro will not increase their Contact status with you. It only gives you the Souvenir at the end.

    Good Luck!

Not necessarily. A system not booting up correctly after an outage can be a common thing in certain circumstances. It's when you start to exhibit the same problems when there hasn't been an outage.. that you need to really worry.

I was in your situation before.. (in an old house where flipping on the bathroom light would could shut off the breaker). Luckily for me, the landlord was actually a friend of mine's parent, so I mentioned it to them, and they were nice enough to have an electrician run a separate channel to my room specifically for my air conditioner and electronics. My power problems ceased, but obviously that isn't a solution that everybody has available.

I've always had a UPS though, so I didn't have to worry about any damage, but it was annoying/silly having to always tell my TF team "hold on, I have to turn the power back on". (I keep my modem plugged into the UPS as well so I don't get knocked offline. haha)

Anyway, regardless of anybody's power situation, I recommend getting a UPS.. but in your case, I strongly urge you to get one. You'll definitely be better off.

As for any damage already done to your system... As long as nothing else is acting differently, I wouldn't worry so much. (Do not include behavior directly after power loss, as it would most likely be related to the outage's situation, not specifically damaged hardware). It's hard for any of us to really tell without physically checking it out for ourselves. Just listen for any abnormal sounds from the hard drive and any other odd behavior or slowness of your system as a whole, and troubleshoot from there.

There are also several utilities you can run to check your system's hardware. Some motherboard manufacturers include utilities to check the status of their hardware. Hard drive companies usually have diagnostic programs as well (be very careful using those, as some of the tests actually change/erase data to test the drive). You can also run memory tests to check the Ram as well.
  9. We've seen many people report crashing once we get over the 1.6 GB mark. I've even run into it myself. The memory issue should definitely be addressed before more issues go live and start driving the memory usage up even more!

Besides the market and other things you mentioned, the Chat is another thing that seems to drive the memory up. I've found that using /clearchat after several hours of play does free up a little bit of memory as well, especially because of all the busy global channels I belong to. Some people also report increased performance when Chat Logging is disabled.

On a side note, I was using THREE instances in Pocket D the other day, and each client was only using around 500k. I know that zone is very small.. but still.. that's a HUGE difference between the ~1GB upon logging into RWZ. lol
  10. If this is happening too often, it can cause damage to your power supply and even your motherboard or hard-drive. Even with the surge protectors functioning, things are still not being powered down the way they are designed to and can be damaged.

    Solution:
Get a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

It's basically a battery backup that you plug your tower/monitor into, and it kicks in when you have any kind of power outage. It stays charged at all times because it's plugged into your wall outlet, and it gives you enough time to save your work and power down your system correctly to prevent any damage to the system.

Something you might be able to do in the meantime:
If you have a power failure, switch the button on the rear of your tower to the OFF position (and/or unplug it), and then hold the power button to your system for 5-10 seconds. This should release any residual power from the system and allow you to flip the switch back on and turn the system back on normally. (This will not prevent any possible damage to the system due to the initial outage, but it should get you back up and running faster than waiting for the residual power to disperse on it's own)

I think it is related to Ouro and happens similiar to a legitimate occurrence.

    - player 1 uses obo on villainside
    - player 2 uses obo on heroside
    - player 2 switches to villainside
    - player 2 joines player 1 on a team without using obo
    - player 2 uses obo and gets the message above.

This is simplifying it but it may be that it read the obo I was in as a hero instance.

It's too late to try and reproduce it, if I feel like it I'll take another look at it tomorrow. However I think I'm going to avoid several task forces until this is fixed.

    It's a tad bit annoying.
The people standing next to each other were not necessarily flagged as being in the same zone on the Leader's client. Obviously, one of them was being flagged incorrectly as a Hero, and was kicked from the team, while the other person was still a Villain and remained on the team.

Like I said.. same thing could have happened if you went to your SG base too. It's just a matter of chance as far as each person being flagged as the incorrect faction. It has nothing to do with Ouro.. but the fact that you were not in the same zone as the leader, and happened to be unfortunate enough to be flagged as the opposing faction as the leader at the time.

The key here is that until this is fixed, everybody should all zone into the same area before setting the next mission, to ensure all clients (especialy the Leader's) are synched with the correct status of each toon, so nobody will be ejected from any teams accidentally due to being flagged with incorrect data.

On a side note, I believe this team window bug is the same type of reason why mission difficulty is reset to default when you enter a mission with the leader in a different zone. The character entering the mission starts the instance, but the leader's settings and info are not loaded at the time, reverting it to default.

I'm not saying the text wouldn't be the same. I'm just saying it's not directly related to Ouro. You'd get that same text if you zoned from a mixed team in Pocket D back into Kings Row or to your SG base or something too. You could have taken the ferry to Nerva instead of taking Ouro and probably had the same results and same text.

The reason the other people weren't kicked from the team is cause they probably didn't have time to leave the zone the Leader was in yet, before or during when the time the next mission was being set.

Then there you go... you were probably already into Nerva by the time the mission was set, so thats why you didn't notice the team drop until then..

and OUCH! Having it happen on a SF is even worse!

Well if the next mission wasn't set yet.. how did you all know to start going to Nerva? Unless it was a specific arc you knew.. in which case.. that might be why you didn't notice the team drop until you got to Nerva.. cause the mission wasn't set yet until the Leader had time to call it in.. t which point you were already heading into Nerva, and not in the same zone as the leader when the mission was set.

Yeah, but technically, it should have happened when going to ANY zone, not just Ouroboros, cause Grandville and Nerva are not Co-Op zones either.

Maybe it had more to do with the mission being set when some people were not in the same zone, than it did with Ouro specifically.

In any case, it shouldn't have happened since the team as not mixed anyway. I guess we got Going Rogue early. haha
  17. I have seen the alternate faction zone after relogging as well. In fact, I mentioned it just now in the other thread regarding the team list bug:
    A few new glitches

However, I didn't realize it could kick people off the team for being in a different faction. That's a bit too far! lol

Yes, I have seen this. I logged off a toon from St Martial, and switched to a Hero to join a TF.

Upon logging in and being invited to the team, the Team leader showed as being in St Martial, and half the rest of the team was in Ouroboros.

When I zoned into Atlas Park (for Sewer Trial), EVERYBODY was already in that zone at the contact waiting for me. Nobody was even in Ouroboros, and the leader was certainly and impossibly not in StMartial at any time. lol

CoH is using more and more memory with each Issue release and I've seen the game crash to that screen on several occasions since i16. I'm not going to say it's common, but it's certainly more than I've ever crashed since I built my new system early last year.

Anyway, every time I crash, I notice the game's current usage is just over 1.6gb, so I'm assuming that's right around the game's threshold. Other people have reported the same thing. This only happens to me after several hours of play though.

(Before i16, it was common for my client to run over 1gb, and sometimes close to 1.5gb after several hours. i16 seems to have just pushed it that little bit more over the edge?)

    Side note:
The OP's number 1 and number 3 are almost the same problem. The client isn't given the character information for whatever reason and it does one of 2 things.. either shows a blank name in the team window, or shows the same name of the person above it. This is of course corrected once you are in the same zone with those team members.
  20. A contact that no longer gives missions should automatically move to your Inactive Contact list. Contacts are even temporarily moved there when you already have 3 missions and they can't give you any more work at that time. In that case, only th contactss for your 3 active missions will show up on your Active tab.

You can't remove contacts from your list. Just look at the other tab instead.

I believe it's the last one as well. It sounds right anyway, but I admit I have not done the mission in quite some time either. IIRC, it's also one of those random zone things, so it's very possible to get it from Boomtown or Steel like the previous poster has mentioned.

Also, it's not really endless. Just like the Arbiter Sands ambushes on STF (which many people think are endless), it's more in the lines of about 10 waves or so. I distinctly remember trying to farm it for the gearsmasher badge and still coming up a few short by the time they stopped coming out of the junk pile.
  22. Tabby is in for this. Can you believe she hasn't even run this TF at all? When we are successful, that's worth at least 2 more badges. lol See you there!
