Not when I had one on my second account.. It's possible they added one at some point, but I'd guess it only pops up at the beginning.. and if so.. not for nothing.. but how many people might just click it away and/or just forget what was on it by the time they realize something isn't normal?

It should be accessible at any time, which I don't believe is the case currently.

Not true. You can certainly get a drop from somebody on the same side as you. If it's not intended, then it's bugged.. because I got them.

    Yes.

I farmed the PvP 400 rep badge in Warburg not too long ago. I was a Hero, killing a series of Heroes over an over again from my other account. I got about 5 PvP recipes during this process... I did not kill ANY villains at all. Call me lucky?

I'll be doing the same thing on one of my villains sometime soon, so I guess I'll let you know.

Actually, wouldn't it be considered 16 EB? In data storage terms, you don't divide by 1000 per 1000 when converting the measurements, but by 1024 per 1000.

I agree. They should just put another button on the little "BuyCoH" window that says "Why should I buy full version", or "Learn about trial account limitations." Then at least there would be an obvious place to get the information quickly, either by linking to the website, or by another simple info window that opens up when the button is pressed.

I've modified the bind to this:
    /bind ctrl+lbutton "powexec_name shadow step$$powexec_name black dwarf step"

and it works perfectly in Dwarf form.. no reticle, and I can hold down the crtl button to fire off a chain.... but in human form it will not do any of that
In human form the first time I hit it, it brings up the reticle. if I lbutton again I fire it off once.. then I need to lift off the crtl button in order to cycle through the bind (which works with the lbutton activating the power)
So what is wrong with how I'm doing it?
Having more than one powexecname in a command gets a little tricky getting it to do exactly what you want in general, even without the reticle trick.
The second command is probably trying to cancel the first one, causing you to have to re-run the command again. This is why it works in one form, but not the other. If you reverse the commands, I suspect it'll work the opposite way for your forms.

Also, keep in mind that the auto-left-click activate is not really by design, but a trickery of the fact that you have to left click your location anyway. Binding the power to include the left click works without a reticle as long as there is absolutely no delay in processing the power command as the button being clicked. Having 2 commands is probably breaking that delay.

Personally, I use the same bind you do, but I just bound it to the LShift key and let the reticle appear. It doesn't take any extra time to press LShift again after I click the location because you have to wait for the teleport animation anyway. You don't have to wait for the teleport animation to start the power.. just don't click until your screen actually moves and puts your retilce farther away.

Not only that, but once you leave your SG, you wont have them anymore because they are the property of the SG, not your character.
  7. Well it was a fun and successful night. Out of all 18 missions, we were only missing the Talos Mayhem. I only needed 1 badge, and I got it from my other character tonight. I'm glad I was able to provide some of the missions to the rest of the group as well.

If I level up Bonfire a little more, I'll host the Talos Mayhem for you guys too.

That seems to be a severe bottleneck right there, especially in high-traffic areas of the game.

I don't know why the CoH_Helper isn't showing your hard drive space, but looking at your DXDiag, it appears you have plenty of space there, but it's going to run much slower off the hard drive than it would from your RAM. Once you run out of RAM, it relies on the hard drive for the extra memory, and it can slow things down a lot when it does. That, combined with the slower single-core processor is probably what's ruining your experience. (That's a Pentium 4, right? It's not a "4 CPU". Either way, 1.6Ghz is on the slow side these days.)

No you didn't. You can use Windows XP 64-bit and recognize the extra RAM.

It's the 64-bit that's important. Standard XP is 32-bit and can only 'see' up to 4GB RAM, but 64-bit XP can see significantly more than that (16GB, if I remember right).

Even standard 32-bit Vista can't see more than 4GB RAM.

    [/threadjack]
I was gonna say that too, but I forgot by the time I was done. lol

    Technically:
    2^32 = 4,294,967,296 = 4GB

    2^64 = 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 = a hell of a lot of memory. lol
The OS limits it internally to a lower number though, which i think is currently 2TB = 2000GB.. and depends on which OS you have.

    Examples:
    Windows Vista/7 Home Basic (64-bit) is 8GB
    Windows Vista/7 Home Premium (64-bit) is 16GB
    Windows XP (64-bit) is 128GB
Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, and Uitmate (all 64-bit) are 128GB
Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Uitmate (all 64-bit) are 192GB
    Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SP2), Enterprise /Datacenter Edition (64-bit) is 2TB

On a side note, it's possible to let a 32bit system "see" more than 4GB of ram as well using Physical Address Extension (PAE), which can allow them to see upwards of 64GB or even 128GB, but I think you might have to have specific processors and run Windows Server to do so. I'm not sure. Also, it's important to note that your motherboard also has it's own memory limitation as well, but there might be Ram Cards available to expand that.

  11. "Paragon of Vice" is indeed included in the Ouroboros version of "There's a sucker born every minute".

As I was working on my regular Ouro badges, I happened across it by accident and thought to myself.. "I've been on this arc for a while now, and I find out it's a badge mission. I hope I still get credit for all the challenges I've set for this!... Well.. now I feel like the arc is living up to it's title!"

lol, but it turns out I got the badge for the mission, as well as all the challenge badges when I was done with the arc as well, so I killed 2 birds with one stone, without ever even knowing I was running the badge mission.

    More info:
    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Flashback

That page will show you which arcs the badge missions are located in, but the number of missions it shows for each arc seems to be wrong because the Ouro version of the arc is sometimes different than when you run it from the contact.

    Enjoy, and good luck!

    cpu upgrade ?

For multi-instancing, it CAN be beneficial because the system will not lose performance on one instance just because the second is running... but it's not much unless running several instances is already slowing you down.

For single-instances, you are better off with a higher Ghz dual-core for the price.

In your case, you are going from a 2.4duo to a 2.6quad, which is an improvement in both cases, but that depends if you think 2.6 is much of an improvement over a 2.4, and if it's worth it for you to spend the money that way.

*This opinion is based off the general core speeds and does not factor in the other specifications of each processor that may or may not make any difference.

Tolerance for Hibernation or being out of phase can only last so long. A brief period after activating such an ability, your body will reach a point where such powers cannot be re-activated again for 120 seconds.

The game's resolution is saved in the Windows registry. If you reloaded the operating system, it's possible that information was simply lost, as if the game isn't even installed at all anymore. The program files are still there, and running the client again might still recognize them and run the game, but it doesn't remember your preferences anymore until the registry and your preferences in it are restored.

Anyway, while back it appears there is a bug with the options window. Try this:
Open the options window and select your resolution. Click Apply, but do NOT close the window. Then exit your client. That should save it in the registry. Logging back in should give you the new resolution you picked every time.

Also, there is a tool called TweakCoH that you can use to change your registry settings directly, instead of using the game's option window.
(The TweakCoH link seems to be currently not working. It might be possible the site is down or being updated. Maybe try again later?)

Alternately, there is a command you can use in your shortcut to run the game in whatever resolution you want. This allows you to set up multiple shortcuts, each with it's own resolution.

Example: (place this in your shortcut's Target field)
    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -screen 1440 900

And depending on whether or not you use fullscreen mode, it couldn't hurt to add -fullscreen 0 (or 1) to it as well:
    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -fullscreen 1 -screen 1440 900

On a side note, the Tech Boards are just a little higher on the list.

I spend a lot of time (far too much of it) sitting AFK in the game while I'm browsing the forums (doing it now actually, lol). I find that it can memory-crash even while standing still for long periods of time, so apparently... even other players coming into the area you are in (and their info automatically loading to your client) is enough to push it over the edge, whatever that may be. It's also possible that the global chat channels you belong to may contribute to some of it as well.

I've had this crash anywhere from 1.51gb all the way up to my personal highest of 1.76gb.. but other people report crashing at higher or lower numbers as well. This is the memory usage of CityOfHeroes.exe by itself.

    This.

We have a few people hosting each mission tonight specifically to get all the badges on both Hero and Villainside. Just leave your name in the thread and be around tonight at 10pm Eastern to get started.

I sent you a /tell in-game. Also, it would be easy to join "Freedom TF Chat", as that's our global channel for coordinating the multi-team events that we run each week. Hope to see you there tonight!

    Channel Question

The white box means you are muted/silenced. It might be a private channel?
  19. When it crashes like that, open your task manager and look at how much memory CoH is using. Lately, it's been unstable once it gets above 1.5g.. which seems to be common after extensive AE or SG base editing... or several trips to the market/crafting tables.. or several hours of continuous play. There currently isn't much you can do about it other than check on the memory usage from time to time and restart the client if it appears to be getting too high.

If that's not it.. the Tech forum is actually a little higher than the Player Questions area..

Also, we have our own program that gives us a consolidated report of information relevant to CoH:
    CoH_Helper

People usually like seeing that, along with the HiJackThis you talked about.

The bind files will always be there once you create them in the right places, and initialize it by loading one of the files the first time. The bind should work just fine any time you log in without having to set it up again.
