  1. Would it be fairly obvious to say that it ill be levels 50-55?

And, since everyone, including the Devs knows that we want a moon zone, would it be fair to say that there will be a moon zone?

And, since the Devs said a while ago that Issue 10 will involve heroes and villains working together, the moon zone will be common?

And, since the Devs said a while ago that an old villain group is coming back more powerful than ever, it would be fair to assume that some group is claiming the moon zone? Rikti, or Fifth Column?

    Just thoughts...

When I feel more energetic, I'll find the links that substantiate my claims that the Devs said all of that.

Just mull it over, and give me the badge of "Called It" when I10 comes out.
  2. Hey, Hertz!

I was just checking through my old PMs, and I see that you were one of the people that helped answer some of my newb questions in these forums!

Thanks for being awesome! Keep making stories.
  3. John Cleese. He he he...

Blasters wouldn't take 'im, too smart!

Can we get a "revenge" History Pool? My main's story is (in summary- its novel length) that his parents (famous villains) were killed by the Rikti. Wolf blamed heroes, extermination campaign, joined Council, was abducted by Heroes, put in Zig, genuis found, tada.
Oh, and also the duo idea was genuis. I have a friend whose 20 lvs behind me and lackeying him is too much hassle, but if he protects me...

    [/ QUOTE ]

He he, It's really exciting to me that people all want this to happen, but most want it to happen for different reasons. Some people want to take Student/Mentor to team up with buddies, I personally would like to have Rogue and see what it's like to get to 50 without storylines, whereas some people just want to dunk their accounts into a big ol' bucket of Lone Wolf.

Sure, we can add Revenge! It sounds like a cool concept, but I need to know what kind of mechanical boosts you are expecting. Keep in mind that they should NOT be combat oriented. If they are, then not too heavily.

    Thanks for the support!

    I love PuGs!

    They are so great!

I don't know how people can hate them.

    Newbs.
  6. Here is how I interprete Ex Libris

What do you all think? Keep in mind that I am NOT a visual artist. I'm a writer. Hence the no drawing...

Funny side story. I posted this picture almost a full month ago at around a midnight. Less than an hour after I posted it, I took it down when I realized that it has emotes and such from I9 Beta Testing. Kudos to those that saw it earlier!

Thoughts? Be honest. I can take the harshest of criticism.

As to 2.0, I really do not think it makes much of a difference to me, if it's still a bunch of feats. I mean "rogue" and "merchant" for crying out loud? This is a superhero game. Try "reformed criminal" and "CEO".

    [/ QUOTE ]

This was discussed on either page two or three of this thread, but I don't blame anyone who hasn't trudged this mess.

When designing the Back Story Power Pools, I wanted to accommodate everyone's imagination. Merchant, to me, is CEO. He was designed with my main in mind. This is not, however, how everyone would play. It is just as viable and respectable to have a simple shoe salesman from the Midwest gain super powers as the CEO of Drake Enterprises. Also, not everyone who is a "rogue" is a reformed criminal. In some ancient societies, they would not have been deemed criminals (see: Sparta). Also, there is no evidence that they are reformed. Robin Hood is almost unarguably a hero, but he committed crimes for which he was not repentant until the day he died.

So, as you see, we can't get too specific, or it would be excluding several ideas. It is for this reason that I chose the most generic terms possible.

    Hope that clear something up.

  8. (This is in response to both posts above this one.)

Phylantropist, while a tricky word to spell, is a very good idea. I like it quite a bit, actually. I think, in the original concept of BSPPs, I had this, but it was labeled Survivalist, and it reflected one's ability to draw the full value from anything, as it was the only way to scrape by for a while.

I will definately include it, but I am going to lower the percentages a bit, as it seems over powered as is. As I stated before, these should change the way one heads into battle, but not the battle strategy itself.

Additionally, insignificantly, I am going to change the flavor text to reflect the idea that both Heroes and Villains could obtain this pool.

Xenite, your idea for obtaining BSPPs "on the side" was a rather popular one towards the beginning of this entire discussion, and it will most definately make the cut on V 2.0 of this thread.

Back Story Power Pool Update: 3/28/07

For a while now, I've been promising to update this idea based on feedback so generously given in this thread. Originally, this update was to appear this Friday, 3/30/07. Due to request, however, the release date of V 2.0 will be 4/06/07 (The Friday following the previous projected date).

If you believe you have a valuable contribution to this idea, I want to hear from you!

In the second version of this thread, I will be including [u]all[u] alternate ideas that have been suggested in this thread, crediting the first to have posted the idea in its used incarnation.

This idea is a good one. I believe that, and so do several of you. Let's continue to support it, in hopes that, eventually, the Devs will discuss it with us.

    Thank you.

    Marcian
  9. Sweet crap, am I ever going to enter this thing!

    Yay for Julian Drake!
  10. Interesting idea, but are you proposing that it is possible to obtain every BSPP?

I don't fancy the idea of someone being able to obtain them all, as it would defeat the idea of individuality I had in mind.

I can't fully argue it, it just sounds a bit different than what I had before.

Interesting idea, though, and it is not without merit. Thank you!

Edit: I looked at this idea above me again, and I really like it! Obviously, there are other ideas, and they all need to be debated and ironed out, but I realized what you were saying about an alternative to Badges. This is definately going on the list of alternate ideas.
  11. To those of you that have read Empress's comment but are just joining us, allow me to explain:

This idea has received a great support, except for one thing: How the powers are obtained. Even its most loyal supporters feel that I need a better system.

Although I haven't officially changed it from Power Pools, I agree that a much better system needs to be in place. Empress spearheads one of the most complete systems for this project.

In summary, please don't explain why Power Pools is a bad system for this power, as I've acknowledged that it isn't the best, and have been working on it for well over a month now.

    Thanks!

    ~Marcian

P.S. Any, every, all ideas for new powers under this and alternate methods of obtaining this should be posted here. I promise V.2.0 on Friday! (3/30/07)

Don't forget a skill somewhere in there for detecting enemies ... i.e. finding that last mob in Defeat Alls.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It would either be in Rogue in Lone Wolf. I am also going to include, in V 2.0, Olympian (less fear of exp. debt and dying, nice for PvP and higher difficulties), Gadgeteer (Invention related, pending public release of information), Instructor (Student, but in reverse), and anything else people want to recommend.

Thank you all for your continued support! It's amazing to me that people still discuss this idea, more than a full month after it was put up!

Put this idea in your sig if you like it! Let's see if we can get a Dev to discuss it with us before I10 takes off!
  13. First post after red name~!

I9 is only on closed Beta. What could you POSSIBLY be inventing?

    Ex Libris Idea

I had posted a picture here of my idea for Ex Libris's costume. I've since decided that it wasn't my best effort, and will resubmit it later. Thank you.

  16. Important

I have not yet made the V 2.0 of this suggestion, but the forum trims are coming soon. If you are an active fan of this thread, please post something, so as to keep this from being deleted.

Please, if possible, make it something of value, as filling this with fluff would be an equally bad move. Thank you.

    Not to offend.

I'm not offended if the toon creator is Vietnamese (and somehow identifies with the person and or their actions for his religion or country's politics)...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would to an extent to agree. You don't have to be born of a certain nationality to empathize with it (You can just buy the skill set! ). What would be important is the intent of the creator when he made this character. If it was a tasteless joke, I'd remove it. If it were an homage, I'd respect.

If I were a Moderator, I'd play it very safe in this volitle situation, and generic him with a LONG letter of preemptive apology.
  18. I'm sorry... Luminum, did you just bypass supporting the idea, opting instead to support the support?
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Secondly, I had a specific comment/suggestion regarding the "Student" pool:
As it's every student's aspiration to one day become the master, why not have the 4th (And 5th, and 6th, if they go that far) Ability in this pool give a bonus when SKing someone else? Alternatively, they could give bonuses when Exemplared. In this fashion, the pool would still be relevant at higer levels.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is a good idea, and I will note it in thread 2.0. As my personal opinion, however, I was using Student to represent people that love learning more than mastering. A monk, who spends days studying the words of his holy text. A researcher, who travels the worlds, seeking knowledge of lost civilizations. A college student, who is undeclared in major. Those are the people I chose to represent.

Now, there have been several interpretations of this idea that allow for multiple BSPPs. What if one were to take Student and Instructor? That would work, would it not?

Player A1 puts up a Level 12 TO for 5,000,000 inf.

Player B1 puts up the same Level 12 TO for 1,000 inf.

Player A2 (trying to transfer funds) offers to buy that level 12 TO for 5,000,000 inf.

Since player B1 wants less, and is obviously trying to move his items faster, his "for sale" is processed first, so he ends up with 5,000,000 inf (minus fees).

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is disturbingly brilliant. I would have never thought of that. You did a fantastic job.

Symbolically speaking, the last roadblock has fallen. I am officially euphoric for the arrival of i9.

Now for my flame part (putting on flame shield on!). I think they should be set at character creation which pool you have access to and can't be respecced. (unless there was a cool accolade or TF like somekind of Time Warp thing which would give a roleplaying reason why your origin changed).

Otherwise I see some toons trying to use this in a PL way and once hitting 50 changing to the "Instructor" for instance.

Adding real abilities for roleplaying is the big step towards making a great game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your example is a good one, and I appreciate it. If you look back, you'll see that Empress has been suggesting that the BSPPs be part of the origins for a while now. It's a heavy belief of hers, and it interesects with this fear quite nicely. I think, in the previously mentioned V. 2.0 of this idea, I will mention in length the idea of this being an Origin story thing.

Heh, a Time Warp respec. I like the justification. It's amusing. It would still open the fear of abusing this, though. I do have to fear that.

As far as the idea of rewarding for roleplaying, I do think that this will reward that, and it will be an awesome thing, but my original concept was to allow players to explore the game in a nonconventional way. People like to solo, so I made Lone Wolf. Some people are addicted to Mayhem Missions, so I made Rogue. That was the original idea, but I do very much hope that this will strengthen roleplaying.

I wanted to bump this with something intellectual that stimulated the conversation more, but now I feel the need to make a crass joke about Sugar and Spice..

    Hmm.. Mountains.
