I am hereby predicting and declare a rumor that Ultra Mode is the week after the week the OP said...
... Who wants week 3? Prize is the gift of prophecy! -
Have you ever overdosed on a power?
Super Power Overdose: To be so fascinated with a power that you lose any, all, and every bit of perspective on how to properly use it; You spam it constantly and slot it to heck with things it doesn't need.
My OD Powers:
1) Gale: This is, to me, the funniest power in the game. In my amateur opinion, it benefits very very little, and has all the benefit of walking past the TV screen during your room mate's viewing of House. That being said, I've slotted it for maximum accuracy and distance, and literally have trouble containing laughter as I spam it across all the Minions during a mission.
2) Share Pain: You get stronger by transferring HP loss from a team mate to you. BRILLIANT! As someone who both loves buffs and playing support, this power is a toxic cocktail. Twice during my lunch break today, I "Share Pain"'d my way directly into death, proceeding then to switch my battle strategy into guilting the surviving team mate into believing my death was on his hands.
3) Poison Trap: This has been my signature power for three years, and I'm still not sure of everything it does or when the right time to use it is. My guiding principle has and will be until the servers die: Is this an enemy I'd love to see vomit?
Your turn. -

As someone who's worked in a related field before, I feel the need to point out the frustration when someone makes the jump from "Simply hasn't addressed yet and/or forgotten" to "THEY HATE US!!!!"
They've only addressed to US servers at this point, as well. <3 -
Quote:This'd be the bottom line, wouldn't it? Thank you all very much for your help and clarification. I'll work more on looking this stuff up myself, so as not to clutter the Tech section. As far as having to turn your graphics settings down, keep in mind that it is at least 3 generations old now.
Keep being awesome! -
Quote:Yes, but as I search around right now, I'm finding that I was, indeed, mistaken.256mb onboard RAM sounds about right for that vintage of video card. Were you expecting it to have more dedicated RAM than that?
*Sigh* I don't understand, then. My computer's specs are pretty decent, but I still get lag... You said "vintage". Were you trying to subtly tell me that my video card is out of date? -
Friends... meet the enemy.
Put briefly: am I, a plebeian who knows nothing of computers, wrong to guess that more of the memory should be Dedicated Video Memory? If it genuinely should be more, how do I go about adjusting that?
Kind of sick of having "Can You Run It?" tell me that I'm well above even the Recommended settings... and then having to turn down all the settings just to play.
Thanks! -
I wish that each individual person could turn off comments...
-
I kind of liked it at its best: People giving each other feedback on how to be better posters. More than once I got Red Rep coupled with constructive criticism with which I agreed, enabling to contribute more to the community.
Apparently I'm no good on my own, though. Once the comments were disabled, mine dropped. -

Quote:My lack of reading comprehension played a key part in me telling my superior I was going on break imminently, due to a Tweet.Indeed. As tired as I am with the Twitter teases, imminent != immediate.
Case in point: imminent is more like "in the near future" as opposed to "now". -
Quote:Person B said that RAM tends to reduce itself to the speed of the slowest stick. So, if I put them all in, I'll have:Hmm... I haven't ever come across someone saying that 2 gigs is going to go faster than 3 gigs. I think it may be possible that 2 500mb sticks is slower than a single 1 Gb stick, but the other one just sounds implausible. I'm not much of a hardware guy, though.

... but they'll all run at .5, which would just be a step backwards. Again, forwarding what someone else said. I'm not tech savvy myself.
Of course, I'm leaning now towards wanting to:
Quote:Put it all in. -
-
Short version: I have 4 RAM slots. By a story, I have two sticks of 1 Gig RAM, and two sticks of 500 MB RAM.
Being computer illiterate myself, I've received conflicting advice:
1) Put all four sticks in. The more RAM the better!
2) Put only the 1 Gig sticks in. Putting in smaller bits of RAM triggers an effect that ends up slowing down the computer, rather than helping it.
Both came from people that are absolute computer experts, so I'm very confused.
Ergo... to RAM or not to RAM? -
Quote:I will never, never have the three newest years of rewards. This does not bother me. I'm happy to know that there are people out there with three years worth of stories and fun.I know it's heresy, but I still think that they should give out the badges but no extra rewards past five years or so. I'd hate to be a new player and think that I'll never even remotely be close to earning all the goodies that the veterans have.
Plus, it would have the added advantage of heading off the people posting that the new rewards suck.
Or to put it another, more snazzily quotable way:
The Television arc is not more poorly written now that Distinguished players get free merits. -
I can't enjoy this game anymore knowing that, somewhere out there, a handful of people are feeling ever so slightly healthier than I would be if I were to also have their exactly unique build.
*cancels free year*
Thanks a lot, Devs. -
I think the following story applies well to City of Heroes and the badge system.
My room mate was relatively depressed this weekend, so I invited her to play New Super Mario Bros. Wii. For those that don't know, each level has three hidden large gold coins. I want these. The following exchange occurred:
Me: "Come play with us, but if you see any Star Coins, you need to get them. I'm huntin' 'em."
Her: "Why?"
M: "Because there are three in each level."
H: "That's it?"*
M: "Yes."
H: "So having them all doesn't actually do anything... it's just... for your own happiness."
M: "... Yeah."
In one crystalline moment, the idea of receiving validation of progress from a machine that is absolutely oblivious to your existence just seemed... absurd. Like asking a rock what it really thinks of you and hoping that it will say "You're good enough. You threw me far!"
Anyway... just a thought.
You cheeky monkey.
*I am aware that Star Coins have multiple applications, but none that were worth explaining to someone that was new to the game. Hearing her verbalize those thoughts brought me to City of Heroes, though... and those badges. -
This is the "Nothing in particular" section, right?
Well, I just won a computer from my work! To understand why this is a big deal, allow me to list some facts:- Orion hooked me up with a special edition of Borderlands that I have played for a total of one hour so far.
- Grand Theft Auto IV. I own it. I have not played it.
- Mass Effect was a birthday present. It's CD hasn't known the warm inviting softness of a disc drive.
- I was generously given a year of City of X at HeroCon. I've already lost 2 going on 3 months of it.
- I purchased Lord of the Rings Online in 3 months intervals. I've invested 4 hours via work computer since this.
- 4Chan became entertaining to me recently. A fact irrelevant at work.
- It's really hard to keep up on television when you can only ethically choose shows so low-content you don't lose productivity when you leave them on.
- My old computer busted literally one week after I had finished upgrading it to a "Gaming Rig".
- I've played TF2 at its full potential on my home computer. Once. Ever.
- You people don't see enough of me.
- The internet is for ... hm. Nevermind.
This is incredibly materialistic, admittedly. On that level, however, it's been the best thing to happen to me in months, so I had to share my joy with all of you. Life is good...
^_^
City of X soon! - Orion hooked me up with a special edition of Borderlands that I have played for a total of one hour so far.

I'm a light RPer. No "Verily, you must speaketh to me in the Statesman's Englifh" or anything, but all of my characters have backstories and personalities that I roleplay when with a willing group.
And I'm extremely charming.
Check the smile:

To clarify something that feels kinda weird, I've considered Justice my "Home" for a while, but the characters I value have been split across multiple servers, as well as the friends I've made. What's happening is the completion of my transition to this place as my favorite place for an after hour drink.
Rereading the original post, I'm realizing how easy it is to get the impression that this is my first time here. Either way...
Drinks for all? -
Do we have a Mascot? I was just debating servers with Captain Overdose on his Twitter, and he proclaimed the glory of their mascot, Cimmy.
What have we? If we need one, I have a plush snowman, an energy drink can, a Deep Blue/Blue hand knit coaster, and a mailbox on my work desk, all ready to be nominated. -
Welcome to Justice! This has, hands down, the nicest group of people I've ever met in an MMO. I don't have a handle on what groups are Open or Private yet, so I'll let others invite you to each channel.
Whichever you get, though, you won't be disappointed. Nicest people. 'cept Grumpy Boogie. He doesn't agree with anybody.
Edit: Just realized that you're that one person from Twitter. Sorry for redundantly repeating myself. ^_^ -
Character Transfers are free, darlings! Time for me to move all of my most beloved characters to Justice so that I can stop playing "Champion for the Badges" and "Justice for the fun".
Oh, tis truly a good thing that happens here.
Who else is using the free server transfers?
