I laugh at how the CO fanbois assume that the dev team is taking ideas from CO now.

I am sorely tempted to go over to their forums and just go "Hmm, super powers, super villains, super heroes, robots, aliens... This game ripped off CoH lol"
When Issue 17 wasn't called Rival at all! It was called Dark Mirror! And it isn't a Nemesis! It's someone of your exact power that can match you blow for blow!

The rest of their post fits the criteria of foolishness, but let's be honest with ourselves here.
  2. Get up. You and all of you.

I leave you to your own devices for a period of time, and what happens? The passion dies. Meanwhile, rumors of some Resistance members running an Undrn3t. Communicating with each other. Spreading rebellion, danger, and harm to our people.

What are we? We are Loyalists? To whom are we loyal? Emperor Cole. But not just to him. To his vision and what he has given us.

We have clean streets and safe neighborhoods. We have the chance to improve our lives by our own means and we have nights safe in bed without worrying that super powered villains or... vigilantes... will break into our house for their selfish reasons or misguided ideals of justice.

In every society you must sacrifice something. In Primal Earth, they sacrifice safety and opportunity, content to let the poor stay poor and the dangerous stay on the streets. Their justice is a world where the more expensive lawyers mandate what actions are and are not okay. Where vileness can hide behind a shield of technicalities and loop holes. What do we sacrifice here? Our worst traits. Our doubts. Our insecurities.

    In Praetoria... we are happy.

Why are we allowing that to be threatened? Why!?

To arms, to arms! Coming soon... oh so soon, the Resistance will make their move. Our response will not be apathy nor ignorance. It will, shall, and must be power, pride, and unity. We are not just loyal to Emperor Cole. We are loyal to our families, to our friends, to our very way of life.

Do not let your moniker be an insult, for we know who we are and for what we would do.

    We. Are. Loyalists.

Keep on nerd-raging, 'cause this is such serious business. Anyways, I don't even know why anyone would even care that much! Getting them at level 20 is fine! If you're gonna get your knickers in a twist over it, I humbly suggest that you might not have very much to actually get really worried about.
Rep meant something decent when you got positive/negative feedback from someone that gave a real opinion. Not just "You agree/disagree with me, n'yah!"

When there were comments, it really helped me improve my behavior. Nowadays, you'll just find me on the receiving end of some hopped up drug dealer who just got his first paycheck in a year and is looking to blow it on some blow while getting blown, horrible rap music playing in the background forwarding the illusion of power this drooling ant thinks that he has as he watches me cry during the shakey camera footage of my daughter's graduation that I couldn't go to because of the laws of my probation.

Yes'sir. Yes'sir the lack of comments has impacted me.

Pretty cool screensavers too. I used to use the "clock" screensaver that just had the City of Hero logo on black with a clock that used the CoH font above it.
    That'll do, forumer. That'll do.
  5. All right, peeps! As per advice given in another thread, I'm looking to make my own duct-tape screen saver of City of Heroes/Villains screen shots, one flowing into the other.

Here's the problem, though: I suck. I don't have a lot of dramatic screen *****, and I don't want to stay at myself all dang day (I'm sexy. Not that sexy).

So, here's what I want from you people:
    • Your dramatic screenshots.

    • As little UI as possible.

    • Lots of variety in awesomeness.

    • Pictures that take themselves very seriously. I'm looking for Heroism at its finest and Villainy at its worst.

    • Pics that are self-explanatory. This'll be my work screen saver, and something immediately cool will be bling-ier than something cool after five minutes of explanation.

Hit me up and help me out. Thanks, heroes and villains!

  8. I saw this post on Kotaku's coverage of I17.

I had no idea this game looked so terrible. It's pretty bad their idea of "ultra mode" is opening a crappy 3D modeling program and turning on "detailed shadows". Damn, that looks terrible.
Okay, not everyone has to like this game or think it looks pretty. That's called having perspective. The fact that this person thinks that all the Dev team did was literally press a button, though?

I didn't confront them, because I thought it would do no good.

Let's make this a topic: What's the stupidest thing you've heard or said related to City of Heroes? I'm not talking opinions. Things like this that they just don't understand.

I'll open with me and the fact that when I first joined here I suggested that all powers have a custom look based on their origin. I was unaware that this would essentially be creating every single power all over again 5 freaking times. And also that this idea was dumb.

    You go.

  10. My favorite issue name, both because of the "Evil rival" thing...

... and because Ultra Mode features shadows and reflections. Dark Mirror works as a dramatic name as well as a cheesy pun. Fantastic.
  11. In other news, the Valentine's Day promotions started today.

I know that we're such forward thinking people that the "here and now" isn't as awesome as "what may be updated sometime", but post here to discuss.

My characters are off to promote free love and assault rifles.

Forgot that bit. Thank you for reminding me.

Champions online may have "higher end" graphics, based upon the fact that their minimum specs are about the same as those required for Ultra Mode. On the other hand, having experienced those graphics first hand, I have to say that "higher end" does not mean "better." In my opinion, City of Heroes looks better than Champions, right now. Ultra Mode will push us over the top and way beyond CO.
I was very careful when I said "Higher end" instead of "Better" for this exact reason. Ultra Mode holds nothing for me, personally, as I have a low end computer and prefer City of Heros' graphics. That being said, I'm happy for those affording a better computer.

Still, the fact that CO is in the market is a good thing, as it accelerates us getting things that might have been lower on the priority list, like emote stances.
Kind of my point. I suspect the priority list was rearranged a bit from Champions Online, though I may never receive official confirmation either way.

Whether we're running the race against Champions or for our own Time Trial, we're still lookin' great!

Actually, I didn't know that this was in the works longer than that at all. If I'm wrong, you have my ready apology.

I meant this statement as a compliment, though. City of Heroes rises to meet all challengers, and I'm excited for that.

Samuraiko's Issue Title about apples is fantastic.

If it's likely that I'm wrong, I'll recede back to being merely "Overjoyed and exuberant".
  17. Issue 17: So, Champions Online had a Nemesis system and higher end graphics...

  19. Just taking a break from Red-Sidin' it up on just a notch above Performance to tell you that I deeply appreciate your help. I'm enjoying the game's graphics much more, thanks to you.

(And I suspected that my Start Up programs may have been a difference, but I had no idea they were the difference!)

  21. And here's Hijack This. If you look closely, you can find Waldo, my legal name, and what I do while I'm surfing the forums!

(Yes, it says a lot of processes are running. How would I stop these from starting at start up? Also, Game Booster deals with these... right? Right!?)

  24. Hello... me again...

After spending a while trying to salvage together a computer that works decently, I find that City of Heroes still lags and chops when I run it above Performance mode. Now, I know that my computer isn't exactly running three versions of Crysis at the same time, but this doesn't seem right.

I've minimized my visual "perks" on my computer, I use Game Booster and turn off/down everything unnecessary, and I'm well above system requirements.

Enclosed is a DX Diag of my computer. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thank you very much.
