Welcome back, friend!
A lot's changed. Lord of Time and ShoNuff run the Comic Culture forums, which is where I mostly hang out. Everyone got unbanned when the forums changed, so people are back from the dead. Europe's forums got merged with the U.S.'s, so expect "Blimey", "Mate", "Monsieur", and um... "Nederlandish" to be at the end of a lot of posts.
Trolling is more of a fine high-wire act now. PWNZ is mostly quiet or scattered to the winds. You can find most of them drinking tankards of ale in forgotten threads where people post links to overly mascera'd women singing of love none of them will ever know. The whole section's gone, though, as is a lot of the PvP community that posted on the forums.
The dynamic's changed.
Oh yeah, Lights and Ex are gone. You were there for that, right? It's all about Avatea and TheOcho now.
Did you want updates on the game, too? I can summarize what's happened.
How have things changed? You saw the most recent trailer for Going Rogue, right?
Either way, welcome back! -

Quote:You and I have gone back and forth on this for literally about a year. We've never seen each other's point of view thoroughly, and we're likely never going to do so. As such, I refuse to answer this question directly. So how would you describe someone who has no regard for freedom of speech, the welfare of their fellow citizens, and who feels that thought police aren't a violation of liberty and individuality?
You're missing my point. I'm not saying "Don't be right". The point is that this whole thing is a complicated issue. You think you're right. They think they're right. Let the conversation be more than you driving a rail spike through the heads of everyone that disagrees.
Heck, you don't think I disagree with a lot of the people here? But that's the point. This thread is about experiencing the vast breadth of opinions on this topic. If someone made a thread called "Who is more virtuous: The Loyalists or The Resistance?", you'd be right at home.
Even if I and everyone else conceived that you were right, it still wouldn't be the point. The point is that you intentionally drag down any thread that has opinions with which you don't agree. It's oppressive and the antitheses of conversation.
You think that I'm not saying your view point is legitimate. It is, but you don't want anyone else comfortable in expressing theirs.
What's more: You rarely discuss. You more tell people they are wrong and then sit back down in your chair, throwing peanuts, popcorn, and soda bottles at them while you yell out insults in an attempt to drown out their part on stage. -
Sweet ham on a toaster!
I collect soundtracks/showtunes obsessively. I've wanted one for City of Heroes for a long time. And at such an affordable price! Glee would have charged ninety-twelve kidneys for thirteen pieces of music all that long in duration.
Buying this. Immediately.
Edit: Can we get a press release on this nonsense? -
Please stop. I don't know any other way to say this.
Edit: You've gone from "Playfully representing your view" to "Aggressively attacking, insulting, and flaming anyone that doesn't agree with you". It's far past endearing; it's explicitly unhealthy for forum discussion. -

Quote:I'm seeing a lot of people say this. I find that fascinating.I'd keep my head down and stay out of it.
Considering both sides seem dubious as best, I'd rather just not take sides and just wait for the thingy to be fixed in a year.
In the meantime I'd stay in Tyrant's good books. Not do anything for him, but just, y'know, follow the rules and not cause any problems. -
Quote:... I suddenly wonder what the gender constructs are in Praetoria. Do they have the same roles and ideals that we do in that regard? Where are they on racial, religious, and sexual lifestyles?Because talking is very important
It's how we break down the lies of Tyrant
Hm. If this is addressed, I know how I'm going to play Going Rogue: Analyzing the crap outta this shiz. -

Quote:You don't have super powers, but I've altered scenarios slightly: Everyone has skills. Keep in mind that, in The Dark Knight, the second most dangerous person was Lau. He wasn't a terrorist, nor did he have powers. He was just a really good accountant. And he was the heart of the criminal underworld. With no super powers? I'm the Emperor's newest, bestest buddy. Joining the Resistance would get me killed and I dont want to live in a sewer for the last day of my life.
In my altered scenario, your Primal earth skill set holds such influence. You can scratch the paint on the car, even if you can't dent or explode it.
If that's not enough power to change your answer, so be it. I just wanted to make sure I had been lucid in my speech. -
Quote:I didn't say that I'd be that effective! In my mind, though, I aint a grunt. I'm head of the Powers Division. So, you're just one among thousands of grunts in the Powers Division, and your boss is an immortal god-emperor who beleives he has created a utopia - how would you rate your chances of getting him to reform his system?
Remember, this is a utopia - it's perfect - and changing perfection can only mean making it less perfect.
Reform would be a crime, citizen.
But, I'd be willing to risk death and doom if my acts of reforming were seen as a crime. I'd just rather work with the red tape than taking a torch to it.
Lawful/Resistance? -
Quote:Which is why I mutter "Prime Directive" and stumble back to Primal, where things make sense. The problem with that approach is that it presents a superpowered fascist dictatorship as an acceptable option - it's not.
But neither is anarchist violence against the dictatorship acceptable, as it harms innocent people, just like the dictatorship does.
In all reality, though, I think that Cole is too close to a perfect government. He has a better thing going than any government I've ever seen. Granted, it's messed up in a lot of truly abhorrent ways. That being said, the Resistance wants to shake the Etch-A-Sketch, and that just doesn't jive with me. I'd rather work with the Loyalists in order to reform the wrong parts of Cole's philosophy.
Then again, the "zero crime" policy he has came at the cost of "Volunteering" all the supers. So, changing policy to allow supers to live freely is arguably removing a very fragile block from the Jenga tower... -
Welcome to City of Heroes and Villains! We're here if you have any questions. If you ask anyone, City of Heroes' pride and joy is its incredibly productive community. Even our trolls want everyone to be happy; they just go about it in unconventional ways.
What questions do you have so far? What drew you to the game? Are you a hero... or a villain?
Welcome to the game! -
Okay, so here's the situation: You, yes you, the one at the keyboard, accidentally fall into a rip in realities and land in Praetoria. The anti-rippy-fixer-thing won't be fixed for a year. You're stuck in Praetoria. For a year.
Because of your outside perspective, expertise in (Fill in the blank here), and charisma granted you from being an outsider, you find yourself with the ability to get people to listen to you. So here we have the Loyalists, the Resistence, or a myriad of other options.
With your unique position, skill set, and a year to affect the world, what would you do?- Join the Loyalists and form a stronger, safer Empire than ever. Turn your charisma into propaganda for the good of the people.
- Join the Resistance and bring greater freedoms and independence to the people. Turn your charisma into an engine of justified anarchy.

- Something... else.
ANSWER NOW!
Yes yes yes, we'd all use our celebrity to get some hottie's phone number. This is about after that. -
I was under the impression that, depending on perspective, the Loyalists and Resistence are both heroes and good guys. It isn't like Primal Earth, where people literally take on the titles of "Hero" and "Villain". They are in a moral quagmire that does not translate to Primal standards. You have an utterly Adamantium Fisted fascism vs. Complete Anarchy, with compelling arguments on both sides. When you factor in the fact that most humans in Praetoria don't want the freedoms the U.S.'s Bill of Rights grants, and you end up with a very unusual situation.
It's kind of like when the U.S. went to war in Iraq recently. War Protesters: If you were for the war, they were likely undermining the strength of America at a vital time, making them villains. If you were against the war, they were the voice of sanity in a corrupt situation, making them heroes.
Making it clear-cut is a dangerous thing. Though I know some do, I refuse to do so. -

Quote:Welcome to City of Heroes! Though, if you have good taste, welcome to City of Villains!Mysterious coincidences!
Shortly after Blizzard announced this, I was asking a friend who plays CoH for information, and he pointed me at this thread. By a further amazing coincidence, a couple of hours later I had a trial account.
I may well end up resubbing to WoW, depending on how the rest of this plays out, but I am thus far finding CoH an interesting change. It's a hard sell for me, though, because fundamentally I want to kill internet dragons.
Still, CoH seems pretty friendly. Also, Levelling Pact, best idea ever. Awesome.
BTW, I am totally aware of the irony in posting by the name I'm most widely known by in order to gripe about how stupid it is to make people post under their "real names". Back in the late 80s, I mistakenly concluded that there was no need to worry much about privacy, and at this point, well, it's a bit late to change my mind.
We're excited to have no players, so don't hesitate to ask any questions. There's no shame in being a newb here. Bombard us with "Which key is the 'any' key?"
PM me if you have any issues, and feel free to update us as you learn the game. We'd love to hear opinions, too.
Rock on, Seebs, buddy. You've made the right choice. -
Quote:I stand by what I said. Real men aren't bothered at all. Real men already vented their frustration days ago be breaking down a redwood tree and using the sonic booming crack fall of the majestic plant to rend sheer the clothes from all beautiful women within a mile, proceeding then to make copious and plethora love to three while the rest prepare pancakes on a stove made of iron hand-bent, not welded. Real men are the Saxton Hale of California.Doesn't bother men in the least? I'm a man (at least in theory) and it bothers me...
I, however, continue to troll irrelevant threads that have passed their prime. -
Quote:I've worked in marketing before. You never commit to anything. If there was a rumor that my company's hamburgers contain the bubonic plague, my statement would be "We have confirmed that there is not the bubonic plague in our hamburgers at this time."I don't think the idea is completely gone...
Nothing saying that it won't change again in six months.(
When you don't clarify that you mean "right this damn second", you could accidentally say something that might contradict yourself three years from now... and people will rip off their ears and scream about how this retcons you into being a liar.
In other words, that phrase doesn't bother men in the least. -
Quote:Thanks for posting.
And good riddance to this horrible idea. Blizzard recoups some points from this blunder. -

Oh, I'm not downplaying it. I just wanted to make a snappy quote. This is one of the worst things I can imagine involving recreational use of the internet. It's absolutely awful.
