1. I can tell you one thing for sure, Stefan Richter (aka Lord Recluse) was referring to his sister Monica in that line from the comic.
2. Hey guys I just wanted to address a few things about this thread.

First of all although many characters, groups and places in City of Heroes may have a foundation in history, it is very likely they will not match up directly because our game is fictional. Please keep in mind that our intent is not to annoy or offend anyone.

Now let’s talk about Croatoa for a minute.

As several people have pointed out despite the fact that Roanoke Island is in North Carolina now, it wasn’t then. The Roanoke colony was founded the first time in 1585, 22 years before Jamestown. Technically there wasn’t a Virginia *or* a North Carolina when the island was first discovered, but when she was told about the area by Sir Walter Raleigh Queen Elizabeth named the new land Virginia. The Lost Colony itself was established in 1587.

Croatoan were in fact the unexplained letters that were found. We called our zone Croatoa to echo that, but leaving the “n” off was intentional. The fact that the n was left off in the article describing the letters was simply a typo.

I hope this helps clear things up.

Manticore's got another product to promote now!

Give up hope on the novel?

Never!

More details on *how* I refuse to surrender will be found in The Web of Arachnos.

PnP rules. God I miss those days. Nothing beats a great group of people to roleplay with.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hopefully you can get a group together to play the City of Heroes PnP RPG coming out from Eden Studios and relive the glory days!
5. [ QUOTE ]
The press release about the COH RPG indicated it would be a modified system version of the Eden Studios Unisystem. It was also meant to be as direct a translation as you could get for the Online game.

[/ QUOTE ]

Those are both correct.
We want to keep the core of the Unisystem but make certain the game still feels like City of Heroes.
6. [ QUOTE ]
Hmmm, I too noticed an error in my character's (Luminary) description.

It said that she was built by Positron (which is correct, I think) but then it claims that she's also Positron's sidekick. Meanwhile, it does in fact mention Citadel(!) later on. Weird. I guess they had trouble fitting in Valkyrie?

[/ QUOTE ]

If Luminary was mentioned as Positron's sidekick, that was a typo. I will make certain it gets cleaned up.

At one of the bridges in Independence Port there is a statue of a woman dominating the landscape. Somewhere I read that she was a speedster who saved IP during one of the disasters. I remember the story, but can't tell you the badge, history plaque or heck, it may have been in the back story of one of the comic books. Regardless, I'd like to see her story laid out.

Also, how about Galaxy Girl? Other than a plaque, she has no other mention in the game.

[/ QUOTE ]

That characters name is Wavelength.
8. [ QUOTE ]

Anyway, back to the point: why wasn't the BAB included in this story arc? He is, apparently, part of the team---or am I wrong in this? If he's part of the team, then his omission from the story seems strange and the OP has legitimate cause to wonder er WHY?

So, to sum up: better story, better art--still not as good as the old series. And, er, why isn't BAB in the Story??

The Back Alley Brawler is primarily associated with the group he used to lead, the Regulators. He worked with the Freedom Phalanx during the Rikti War but has been in semi-retirement for some time.

As I said in my previous post however, the Brawler will be the main character of a story-arc that will start in issue #7. A specific threat will force him to get more actively involved.
9. Greetings all,

I just wanted to take a minute to let you all know that your voices are being heard.

We wanted to start the re-launch of the comic with a bang. Mark, Jack and I came up with the no mediport plotline together. We didn't force it on him and he didn't force it on us. Rest assured that the heroes will come through this test unified and changed. Issue #3 will end this arc. In Issue #4 Troy Hickman (of Common Grounds fame) will be telling a more classic super-team story. Starting in Issue #7 Dan Jurgens will write a story-arc that features the Back Alley Brawler as the main character. It will also introduce an upcoming gameplay feature.

We plan on showing a lot of different sides of Paragon City and the characters in it. Some of it will be dark, some of it less so, just like the stories we tell in the game.

As always, thanks for your interest and passion.

* Manticore also dropped that Statesman has a unique ability which is represented on his Heroclix figure: The lightning of Zeus.

[/ QUOTE ]

only one problem......that lightning bolt on the figure is on ALL Heroclix figures. It shows how many attacks that figure can make on his turn. just FYI

[/ QUOTE ]

I was not referring to his attacks. I was referring to Quake and Pulse Wave. I baked those into the design of his dial to represent his ability to call upon the Lightning of Zeus.

On a side note, do the developers check in on Top Cow to make sure they like the plot now that they are using the Surviving 8?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I assisted with the plot and editing.
In addition to that, Jack and the Cryptic Art Director have input on all the content.
13. [ QUOTE ]

Zeus' Lightning?

How'd States get a hold of that? Cole ventured "to the far east" and "unlocked his inner will" IIRC.

Which is it Manticore?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you are quoting the website the paragraph actually reads:

Cole claimed to have unlocked the power of his own Inner Will, an obscure explanation at best. Whatever their true origin, it was undeniable that Cole possessed something that hadn't been seen since the age of the Greek Heroes: superpowers.

Note the word *claimed*

Statesman was clearly obfuscating there. As time has passed and he has shown no signs of aging, more questions are being asked. Issue 2 of the comic will give more details about Statesman and Issue 3 will bring the loathesome Lord Recluse's connection into sharp focus.
14. Synapse is not dead, he is still in the game and will be around to take a beating in the comic too.

Foreshadow is a Korean Hero that is reborn each generation, but who alternates between good and evil. The current incarnation is just beginning to recall and come to terms with the terrible things that his previous self did.

The Scirocco shown in the trailer is indeed the most recent person to carry the Mantle of the Desert Wind of Destruction. Several of you have correctly identified that he is linked to the Order of the Four Winds. They are an order of Monks who seek out those individuals whose personalities fit the winds of the world. Sometimes those Mantles can be a heavy weight to carry.

[/ QUOTE ]

See, that's really cool! This kind of backstory needs to be apparent in the game, and not just to us forum lurkers!

[/ QUOTE ]

Workin on it.
16. Greetings all,

I am back from E3 and wanted to take a minute to answer some of your questions.

-The animation house that worked on the trailer is called Digital Frontiers
-I wrote the script for the trailer
-The sound effects and music were scored by Cryptic's Sound Maestro, Michael Henry
-The voice actors:
Lord Recluse: Roger Jackson, whose many credits include giving voice to Mojo Jojo on Powerpuff Girls and the wicked phone voice in the Scream movies
Statesman: Jeff Kramer, a voice over and theatre veteran
Ghost Widow: Rebecca Wink, another veteran VO performer
Synapse: Greg Webber, owner of the fantastic Webtone (the studio we did the VO sessions at) and voice over actor.
Manticore and Captain Mako: Sean Fish (that's me, Manticore, for those who don't know)

Synapse is definitely a blaster. Keep in mind that the Signature Characters all have Signature Powers that may fall outside their normal power sets. The power to call Zeus' Lighning reflected on Statesman's Heroclix figure and Sister Psyche's Mindriding ability (the power to bounce her mind into someone elses body) are good examples of this. You will see these fairly often in our videos, comics and other licensed properties.

Sometimes those Mantles can be a heavy weight to carry.
Keep watching the fiction section of the new City of Villains website for further details on all the Signature Villains, from the perspective of the beautiful but deadly Ghost Widow.

I hope that clears some things up.

See my prior post for the correct answer. That's from Manticore himself posting the changes. All those body switches made Psyche's powersets a mite odd, IMHO.

[/ QUOTE ]

You are correct. Sister Psyche has always been a Mindrider. Her merge with Aurora Borealis was obviously the most extreme case, but she occasionally picks up other powers when she is riding with a super.

[/ QUOTE ]

Mindrider, eh? Interesting...I haven't heard this term used yet. Did you just coin it, or is it a peek at things to come?

[/ QUOTE ]
Wait, I know the answer to this one, Manticore: "Check out the upcoming City of Heroes novel for more on this term and the relationship between Statesman and Lord Recluse!"

Right?

[/ QUOTE ]

Wrong, you forgot the part about 'it will be written by Robert Weinburg and available this fall.'

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually you will find Sister Psyche using her Mindrider power in the City of Heroes CCG.

But I was wondering, are any of you devs going to be there? I was hoping I could send him down with my pre-sale box or something and get it signed.

21. [ QUOTE ]
OK I have Aurora Borealis and Sister Psyche on my site. And I still have Mother Mayhem.

Now is Mother Mayhem still the Aurora Borealis/old Sister Psyche look-a-like or is their a new Mother Mayhem that looks like the new Sister Psyche

Either way I need a picture of the AV that looks like the new Sister Psyche and I need the name of the other AV.

I'm assumeing Mother Mayhem will look like the new Sister Psyche and there will be a new AV that will look like Aurora Borealis

This is kinda confusing I'm hoping the visuals will help people figure out who I'm talking about.

[/ QUOTE ]

On Praetorian Earth, Mother Mayhem was forced by Tyrant to push her powers in order to help defeat the Rikti. When she realized she was burning out she imposed her will on a fledgling super called Northern Light. The will of Mother Mayhem keeps Northern Light prisoner within her own body. Mother Mayhem has shown no signs of wanting her old body back.
22. Greetings,

Manticore

The sole beneficiary of a huge trust fund, Manticore received training in all manner of mental and physical pursuits, but excelled in archery. When he turned 18, Miss Bowman revealed to him his true heritage. Manticore's father had once been a costumed vigilante in England, until he and his wife died at the hands of a German villain called Doppelganger. Deeply affected by the story, Manticore took up his father's mantle and vowed to bring the 5th Column down.

[/ QUOTE ]

Due to the upcoming Power Sets Manticore is actually a Trick Arrow, Archery Defender. Also, his arch-enemy is called Protean, not Doppleganger.

She has taken up the mantle to fight for freedom, in this specific case to free Paragon City from its infestation of villains. She has heightened strength and endurance as well as the power of the Liberty Belt, which was passed on to her by her grandmother.

Early in her career Ms. Liberty worked extensively with Statesman, but recently seems to be spending more time working on making certain that new heroes in Paragon City have the information they need, as well as working on the Freedom Corps. It is clear that she is determined to do her energetic best to make the Freedom Corps the premiere hero assistance group in Paragon City someday.

[/ QUOTE ]
Ms. Liberty is the granddaughter of Maiden Justice and the daughter of Miss Liberty. Her first name is Megan, not Jessica. More information about her connection to Statesman will also be found in The Web of Arachnos.

I have a question though. I was watching the DVD content with the movie ad for CoH. It shows Statesman over the course of several generations. Is it the same statesman and he's Immortal? or is it a title thats passed on under certain circomstances?

It is the same man, Statesman is immortal. Look for more details about his origin, his powers and how he is tied to Lord Recluse this fall in the upcoming novel: The Web of Arachnos.

Who exactly ARE the surviving eight, and why are they CALLED the surviving eight?

[/ QUOTE ]

Greetings,
The Surviving Eight are: Statesman, Positron, Synapse, Sister Psyche, Citadel, Manticore, Numina and Back Alley Brawler. They all agreed to remain in Paragon City after the Rikti War, to coordinate the efforts of the new heroes arriving every day.
Ms. Liberty is in fact Statesman's Sidekick but she leads a group of heroes herself. They are called the Vindicators: Minx, Valkyrie, Swan, Infernal, Luminary and most recently Aurora Borealis.

Cheers.
