  1. Does this mean he'll be able to post here, LH?

It sure does! Thanks to all for the kind words.

You can learn more about Manticore, his mysterious absence, and his hot torrid love affair with Sister Psyche in "The Penthouse Letters of Manticore", coming this fall from Troy Hickman.

    [/ QUOTE ]

lol now that shameless plug should be enough to draw him out

    [/ QUOTE ]

    "Dear Penthouse Forum,

I'm a superheroic archer at a small midwestern college, and I never thought anything like this could happen to me..."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, I'm still around. Have no fear about that.
It's an ivy league college...and yes it's difficult staying one step ahead of a woman that can read your every thought.

Did you guys miss the "suggest the plot for a City of Heroes comic issue" contest? I am hard at work on the script for Issue 16 based on an entry I selected from the many hundreds of submissions.
  3. Manticore

    To Manticore

    Don't worry I'm still around.
    Thanks for the holiday wishes.

    Cheers,

  4. Hey guys,

Manticore funded *and* founded Wyvern. The rest of the Phalanx are not aware of that however.

    Carry on...
  5. [ QUOTE ]
*patiently waits to see if Manticore will explain himself, in person, soon*

    [/ QUOTE ]

Manticore funded Wyvern to do the jobs Longbow couldn't for one reason or another. Wyvern as a whole are not as concerned with political niceties and are focused on results. It is likely that many of their agents share Manticore's attitude toward fighting crime.
  6. Hey gang,

We are going to implement a couple changes to make this better. The early brokers will only require 3 missions and 1 heist to introduce a new contact. In addition, if a group completes a broker mission everyone on the team will get credit toward a heist that will lead to a new contact introduction. This should help keep you from leveling out of content. Just like in City of Heroes, if you start a Story Arc in City of Villains you will always be allowed to finish it—even if you outlevel it. If you miss a contact entirely, you can still Exemplar with a less experienced hero who has the correct Story Arc assigned to him or her in order to hunt down any pesky badges you may have missed.

    Cheers,

    Sean

  7. Hey guys,

I wanted to take a couple minutes to let you know that we aware of this issue. We want people to at least know where the PvP zones are and how to get to them. We don’t want players to feel forced into PvP combat. To address this issue we are going to take several steps. Players will be sent to liaisons that will be outside the PvP zones. They will explain that there is mission content available from a contact within the zone but will not, I repeat will not, force you to that contact. If the player wishes to go in the zone and find the contact they are free to do so. Just like a Task/Strike Force contact, PVP contacts don’t need to be introduced. As soon as a player clicks on them, they will offer mission content.

ahhhh... that fanboy fix should last me a while.

Thanks to Manticore for coming out and signing stuff tonight!

By the way, your bow is extremely cool. Too bad only us local folks got to see you shoot it. I hope Heroes didn't catch too much hell from the cops that showed. Who knew archery practice in a parking lot was illegal?

And congrats again on the book. Must just be fantastic to get a story published like that. Way to go! Do you have a dream job or what?!

    *cough*Iwantafanfest*cough*

It was great meeting everyone. I had a blast talking with you all about the game.
The police settled down after I showed them my Freedom Phalanx membership card.

    Thanks for playing!

  9. I hope to see you there.
There will be swag and Heroes is a great shop!

  10. [ QUOTE ]
So at the very end was there a big event or did the servers just log everyone out?

Will there be a justification of what happened tonight? Like all villains were arrested? And where the heck were the signature villains? Why did we have to do all the dirty work?

    [/ QUOTE ]

This event was a response to Operation Destiny. Statesman does not take kindly to Lord Recluse breaking so many villains out of the Ziggurat. The Freedom Phalanx and Longbow were pushed back but i am sure even more heroes will soon take up the battle against the villains of the Rogue Isles.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
You guys (and gals) at Cryptic should create a list of all the comments used during this even and post them on the boards here for everyone to see.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Here you go:

    Longbow:
“Ms. Liberty put Longbow together for this kind of job.”
“You’re all going back to the Zig where you belong.”
“I have multiple targets! Send immediate back up to my position.”
“Coordinate efforts and provide support to all Freedom Phalanx members.”
“I’m going to establish a strong point here.”
“Looks like it’s time to earn our pay.”
“Round up as many villains as you can. We need to end this.”
“This is Statesman’s War, but we are here to help him fight it.”
“Activity is rising in this sector, we need reinforcements.”

    Statesman:
“Longbow assistance requested at this position immediately.”
“It’s time for you to go back to prison where you belong.”
“Following Lord Recluse is not a wise career move.”
“It doesn’t matter how many of you there are, the heroes will triumph today.”
“As long as I am alive you will never take Paragon City.”
“The Rogue Isles will soon be free of Recluse’s influence.”
“I won’t let this breakout go unanswered.”
“I will fight until every villain on the Rogue Isles is brought to justice.”

    Manticore:
“I should have brought a Wyvern Strike Team instead of these Longbow yahoos.”
“There’s a nice cell waiting for you back in Paragon City.”
“Who are you, Mako’s newest chum?”
“Another bull’s-eye, this is like shooting fish in a barrel.”
“Let me show you what a real archer can do.”
“One at a time or all together, it really doesn’t matter.”
“Don’t worry; I’ve got enough arrows for everyone.”
“Are you all really that anxious to be the first one to get the enema arrow?”
“You'll be able to read all about this when I turn in my report on the Web of Arachnos...coming this fall.”

    Positron
“This armor is made to keep me from leaking out; do you really think your feeble attacks are going to bust it in?”
    “Nothing I can’t handle”
“All you villains are grey to me, no XP.”
“You must be one of those criminal Masterminds everyone is talking about. Let’s see who has the bigger brain.”
“What do I fear? Having an intellectual conversation with a Brute. All that SMASH talk gets repetitive.”
“Feels good to stretch my legs after a long hard day of standing around Blyde Square.”
“If you see Black Scorpion, tell him I know of at least three major flaws in his armor.”

    Synapse:
    “Let’s do this!”
“I need some Longbow help, fast!”
“Now I know why you villains are always so cranky; there isn’t a decent place to eat within miles.”
“If I get my hands on you, I’ll run you back to the Zig myself.”
“I don’t remember the last time I saw so much ugly in one place.”
“I can’t be everywhere, but I can be in two places at the same time.”
“I bet Scirocco taught you clowns everything you know about honor.”
“Can we hurry this up, there’s a game on later I want to watch.”

    Sister Psyche:
“C’mon boys, give me a hand with these bad guys.”
“Time for you monkeys to head back to the Zoo.”
“How many of you losers are working for Ghost Bimbo?”
“I can’t seem to find any minds to read around here.”
“The weaker the will, the easier it is to control.”
“Don’t hate because I’m beautiful, hate me because I’m kicking your butt!”
“The teleport to the hospital is ready for departure, I’m Sister Psyche and I’ll be your cruise director.”
“After reading your mind I realized that actually is the best you can do.”

    Back Alley Brawler:
"Let's see what you got, youngster."
"Man, villains these days ain't nothin!"
"You can back down, or I can put you down!"
"Hope I didn't interrupt your island vacation."
"You think this is bad, you should see what I do without the gloves!"
"Welcome to villain-busting old school style. I'll be your teacher today. You can call me Mr. Brawler."
"I beat worse than you back when bell-bottoms were in style!"
"I been bustin' villains for 30 years, and I'm still not impressed by any of you."

    War Witch:
“Nice. This place is a hole. Let’s do some street sweeping.”
    “Little help here?”
    “Oh it’s SO on!”
“You picked the wrong side of the law, punk!”
“Dozens to one. Nice odds. I can deal with that.”
“Yes yes you’re terrifying. Shut up and fight.”
“If I were a gambling girl, I’d say the odds of you winning this fight are slim to none.”
“Don’t make me get all corporeal on you.”

    Ravenstorm:
    “Get out of my way!”
“I’ve seen tougher in Paragon CIty!”
“You Arachnos wannabe’s need to be put back in your place, the Zig!”
    “Back off!”
“This pain is nothing compared to what your leaders will feel!”
“This will hurt you more than it will hurt me!”
“It will take more than what you have to bring me down!”
“What’s the matter? Scared of the dark?”

    Ms. Liberty:
“Now this is why I started Longbow!”
“When I’m done here we’ll have to hang a “No Vacancy” sign outside the Ziggurat.”
“You guys are just lucky you got me instead of Statesman, he isn’t very happy today.”
“So how are you enjoying your work for Lord Feckless so far?”
“This is Ms. Liberty requesting immediate Longbow assistance.”
“Looks like it’s time to take out the trash.”
“If the game is survival of the fittest, I don’t like your odds.”
“I am here to make sure you bozos are never a threat to Paragon City again.”

    Cheers,
    Sean

As we were fighting the player controlling Manticore in the end of beta event, he started letting loose some smack talk. Pretty funny. Asked who wanted the "enema arrow" and then plugged his Web of Arachnos book.

Glad you enjoyed it. After all, what is a good super-powered battle without witty banter.
If you think I've got a smart mouth, you should spend some time with Sister Psyche.

Great! Now how about a chapter explaining how Statesman looks so young, fresh, and non-wrinkled - seeing how he was superhero-ing back in the 30's?

Was there a time-travel expansion I missed? Has my memory been nerfed too?

    [/ QUOTE ]

He's an incarnate. He drank from the Well of Zeus (as did Lord Recluse), gained some godlike powers and (partial/total) immortality. At least that's what I've gathered.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That is correct.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    so...

    Mr.States + Mrs.States................... Mr.Recluse + Mrs.Recluse
    ...............||................................. ...................||
    ...............||................................. ...................||
    .........Statesman........................Maiden Justice & Lord R.

    .......................\\.....................//
    .........................=====||=====
    ................................Miss. Lib + Mr. X
    .............................................||
    ..........................................Ms. Lib

so...Lord R. is Statesmans Brother in law? and also Ms. Lib's Great Uncle?

oh wow....i need to lay down now...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Nicely done.
  16. [ QUOTE ]

And thanks for clearing up the Jimmy issue for me, I was confused. And the Maria Jenkins... was wondering why she canged her name And when L. Recluse says "My sister sends her regards" I still don't get how he would know and States wouldn't. Is Monica dead? Can Recluse talk to the dead if she is?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That is certainly one explanation.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
-The Council was formed from the ashes of Arachnos.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Did someone just rewrite history here? From what I understood The Counsil had more to do with the arrival of the Kheldians.

Also if it "formed from the ashes of Arachnos." isn't that Lord Recluse's organization and when people generally talk about an organization being in ashes that means it is defunct. As far as I know Lord Recluse is currently and definately not "defunct".

    [/ QUOTE ]

When Mussolini fell, Arachnos splintered. The Center took a small group and formed the Council. At that time Arakhn stayed with the Council and Requiem was placed in the 5th Column as a mole.

That was also when Lord Recluse decided it was time for a new outlook for Arachnos. No longer would they back someone else. He took full control of the reigns and has never looked back.

Much more recently the Council showed themselves when they made their move on the 5th Column. This was in part motivated by plans of their Nictus allies fnally coming to fruition.
  18. Hey guys,

I am glad that folks seem to be enjoying the book. I just wanted to clear up a few of your questions.

-Shalice Tilman (Sister Psyche) has been around a long time. She was a teenager when she first appeared on the scene and when she is using her Mindriding ability her aging process is suspended. This has effectively doubled her lifespan.
-Maiden Justice is Monica Richter. Her daughter is Miss Liberty who was born in the late 40's. (Statesman and Maiden Justice waited until later in their careers to have children.) Her granddaughter is Ms. Liberty who was born in the early 80's.
-As far as Maria Jenkins goes, there is a mistake in her bio information. Maria Jenkins was Madame Danger not Maiden Justice. She worked with Statesman in the 30's. Sorry for the confusion.
-James "Jimmy the Smith" St. John Smythe is the father of Jonathan St. John Smythe in Atlas Park.
-The Council was formed from the ashes of Arachnos.

    Hope that helps!

    ~Sean

    CoH Card game

    Hey guys,

I wasn't pleased with a lot of the art from the demo decks either. I can assure you that the art from the rest of the first set is much better. There are some truly outstanding pieces. We just started working on the second set and it will be even better!
On a side note, SokMunki, I worked on Heresy.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Ok so let me get this right. The winner wasn't chosen because his costume was good or because his story was original. They just wanted an agyptian costume and a character of egyptian origin to add this little snippet of information about the BotBS which is part of the card game.

That seems rather unfair since they didn't say that they wanted egyptian characters and it ruled out the chance of Kheldians chaacters being viable. If I'd know that I wouldn't have sent in my Warshade.

And no offense intended to the person who won but that costume is utterly terrible, dull in the extreme.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The character was chosen because we liked the background *and* the costume. I had the idea to tie him in to the Blood after he was chosen.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
According to the winner, the CCG developers added Blood of the Black Stream to his entry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can blame me for tying the character more strongly into the storyline we have planned.

It is definitely not the Arachnos symbol.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It really does have a chitinous look about it, though. I suppose that could reflect their metallic blades and hardware more than a connection to Arachnos (perhaps the little dots on the circle are rivets).

    Still -- CONSPIRACY!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Remember, in the original CoV video, it was Freakshow supporting Lord Recluse, not that group he has with him now. It's possible it has spider undertones.

Also remember that the Freakshow will work for anyone who provides sandwiches and a keg.

  24. Greetings all,

Originally Manticore tapped into the Emergency Network to get his teleport ability. The fire of Prometheus allows him to teleport his arrows and perhaps one or two more tricks not yet revealed.

As far as teleporting before firing the arrow in the trailer, the point of that move was to get himself between the bad guys and the Crystal. He wanted to delay Captain Mako and Black Scorpion, grab the Crystal and teleport out. Mako's quick recovery prevented that.
