That "What Lord Reclsue would never say" and the "What lvl are you in real life" have absoloutely nothing to do with RPing what are they doing here? This is the one sacred place us roleplayers have and these people are invading it! GET OOUUUTT!!! Those two threads sound better suited for the discussion forum...
[/ QUOTE ]
"GET OOUUUTT!!!" sounds like it could be the new "GONE TO THE AMERICANS!" except for replying to off-topic threads, instead of nerf threads. And seriously, if Cuppajo considered ANY of these so-called "off-topic" threads as actually off-topic, she would have moved them to the Forum Games section like she did AASQ.
Speaking of which, I think that there needs to be a spin-off for AASQ, starting with the OP's post. It will be called MASC (Make A Stupid Comment). Which will basically be people saying stupid things, then getting hilarious responses. -
Okay, I may as well catalouge the uses of each type of power from the PPPs.
Brutes
Single-target ranged attack: Can hit runners, generates/is affected by Fury.
AoE immob.: Stops runners, allows you to kill one, then move to the next one while only getting hit by wimpy ranged attacks (unless they're Wyvern, or some other ranged specialist).
AoE ranged attack: Generates Fury and aggro, is affected by Fury (if you're moving quickly from one group to the next, you could potentially hit a group of enemies with an AoE blast at 100% Fury, think about that).
Pet: It's a pet, it's not like they're bad or anything, unless you count diverting the aggro.
Stalker
Single target blast: Crits when hidden. In PvP, you may be re-hidden by the time your foe finds where you fired from if he didn't notice the exact direction the attack came from.
Snipe: Same advantages as the blast, except a higher likelyhood of being able to re-hide before your foe finds you (getting behind cover after the snipe will help with that.
Hold: Good for helping you escape an angry Scrapper/Tanker/Brute/AI enemy.
Pet: Can divert the attention of PvE enemies, adds to damage output.
Dominators
Debuff/End Recovery/Water Spout: The debuff could be useful, the end. recov. should be quite nice, and Water Spout looks to be some decent additional crowd control.
Shield toggle: Helps you live longer.
AoE blast: Apply AoE hold, then use this to hit the affected foes.
Pet: Keeps aggro off you.
Corrupter
AoE immob./Power Sink/Soul Drain: The more end., the better, immobilizations allow for escapes, and Soul Drain means more damage, which is very good for a Corrupter.
Shield: Keeps you alive longer.
Hold: Stops a foe from attacking.
Pet: Keeps aggro off of you.
Mastermind
AoE attack: Adds damage to Masterminds that like to attack, other wise, it can be skipped, while still letting you take the other three.
Shield: Keeps you alive longer.
AoE immob.: Keeps foes away from you henchmen, if they prefer range, or away from you, if they don't.
Hold: Takes a foe out of the fight, can be stacked with holds you or your henchmen already have, so that even the Lost or Rikti can be chain-held (more realistically, the Rikti. There aren't any Lost at that level). -
Hey, here's a novel idea! If you don't like the powers/don't want to be an Arachnos flunky, don't do the missions! Just sayin'.
Also, when the devs said you can't respec out of your PPP, they mean that you can't respec INTO a different one. You can't go, "I don't like these flying ghost sharks, I'll just respec into GW's powers!"
This was explained as a coding issue, which makes perfect sense. Since you may do the patron missions ONCE, that means you may have access to ONE PPP, But, if you hate the set, you can ditch all four powers, and pick up other ones.
Also, I still have no doubt that villains can easily destroy the much-nerfed heroes wothout much effort. Any villain that loses to a hero of the same level deserves every lost point of reputation. But then again, I may be a bit biased since my controller gets maybe six seconds of control with three SOs (down from about 10 seconds with an equal amount), and my tanker is as durable a wet Kleenex (also with three SOs in his powers for res or def, as he's invuln). Some exaggeration may apply to the tanker comment. Some.
Also, stop complaining about getting more damage, def/res, controls, or a pet that can distract foes while you re-hide. -
Yeah, I noticed earlier today, while looking through my Prima guide to CoH (the first one), and noticed my grievous error in Duray's name. And I had no clue about his appearance in an SF. Which one, if you don't mind my asking. Also, I avoid all villains from the Tsoo, and haven't been to the PvP zones, so that explains why I've yet to meet them all. Grats. Anyway, back to obscure info.
Did you know this about CoH?
-The badge in the center of Perez Park (can't remember the current name offhand) was once called "Bridge." It was the worst badge name ever, and was much ridiculed. I miss it.
-The only plaques before I2 were in front of Atlas and Galaxy Girl's statues. The plaques in City Hall and Freedom Corps existed, but were unreadable until very, very recently.
-My statement about AT inherents showing up in I5 was inaccurate. I'd forgotten about Kheldians, who had theirs since I3.
-Speaking of I3, I3 was the first big regen nerf, and the first really poorly-received issue.
-During the I3 transition event, when Fifth Column and Council were fighting in the streets, many heroes, myself included, would kill the Council members before the 5C (as they were known).
-CoT Earth Mages used to stack Quicksand. 'Nuff said.
-Last year, all us heroes that logged in got a special Accolade badge called "Celebrant."
-Requiem used to use fire and dark blast attacks, but now uses Kheldian powers. Also, his fusion to the Nictus was mentioned in his description, even back then.
-PFF and Rest are mutually exclusive (that ought to save you guys some debt).
-Luminous Eidolons have always been the easiest Eidolons, and more often are the named foes (as opposed to Murk or Mire). Not only that, but Eidolons in general are one of few foes that run out of endurance naturally.
-The badge you get for beating Eochai in Croatoa is not the same that you got from Halloween '04.
-Not only do civilians you save give you influence, but they occaisionally give you inspirations.
-The loading screen for the Abandoned Sewer Network used to look like it had graffiti for the word "Abandoned." It was changed to a stenciled look sometime between I5 and I6 (and may have changed again since).
-Both the Arenas and Universities had construction sites at their present locations during the issue before they were finished being built. The workers would say funny stuff when you got near them.
-The Bright Star badge used to be on the roof of a building that stood where the Steel Canyon university now stands.
-The Secret Admirer badge used to refer to War Witch as if she were still alive (and she was).
-Kiosks didn't used to work. I believe they were activated back in I4.
I'll see what else I can dig up for your reading pleasure. -
This is my first post in defense of the devs, so it might seem a little harsh. I'm just used to talking about the gimpedness of heroes.
Okay, first of all, I'm in shock right now at this response to Patron Powers. But that isn't EVEN the beginning of the mental atrocities that've been posted here. Let's begin with the most blatant error.
Heroes>Villains: This is an outright lie. Villains are so much more powerful than heroes, it isn't even funny. Any one villain could turn any one hero into a red stain on the pavement, with or without Focused Accuracy, or whatever useless click-buffs you love for some reason. All epic or patron powers do is mildly flesh out your power roster. These powers are not life-changing.
Somehow, having the same types of powers is bad: This is wrong, having the same types of powers lets villains choose a patron for style, not because they come with Focused Accuracy (which I still don't see the use of).
All the powers look dumb, and I don't want to look like an Arachnos dude: Then don't take a patron.
I can't respec out of my patron: At least all the patrons have the same types of powers.
Chum Spray is a funny name, if misspelled: Yes. Yes it is.
There. And besides, I bet you folks'll be making electric brutes, Thuggish MMs, and playing with the other sets for so long that you won't notice that the Patron Powers aren't up to your standards. And Focused Accuracy isn't the end-all, be-all of APPs/PPPs.
There you go, my first "the-devs-did-it-right" post. Tell me if the points I made came from solid info or not. I don't know much about FA, because I avoid click-buffs like that and Rage, Build Up, and Aim. I'd rather just use another attack/debuff/toggle or passive buff/control/pet. I suppose that's why I like the PPPs. -
Did you know this about CoV?
-Corrupters not only used to be called Destroyers, but also Enforcers. I wouldn't have been surprised that there were more names for them on the dev side of things.
-Scourge used to be an automatic critical after a certain health point (25%, IIRC). This made it almost useless on minions and Lts., so it was changed.
-Domination used to be that the lower an enemy's health was, the better your holds were. I liked that version.
Did you know this about CoH?
-The leader of the Sky Raiders is an AV named Dural. He was rumored to have existed in beta, and was in one of the trailers/videos, but there have been no reports of his existence besides that.
-The list of Tsoo bosses is the longest in the game, and some may no longer exist (and I know of nobody that has seen all of them, I have only just seen their names). They are: Dragon Fly (we all know these guys), Iron Hands (I saw a couple in Steel), Bronze Leopard (same with this one), Swift Steel (Talos is where I find these), Ice Wind (never seen one), Midnight (I think I saw this in a mission once), Death Moon (never seen him), Lightning Blade (I've seen one, but I forget where), Fire Dagger (Fire Lion is one of these, IIRC), Lost Son (I fought one random one in a mission), Death's Head (I think I saw one... maybe), Viridian Fear (dumb name, never seen one), Copper Serpent (never seen one), Far Fire (haven't met this one, either), Crescent (these guys have Grav and MA, so I'm glad to have never seen one), Herald (think Yellow Ink Man as a boss, never met one, though), and Sky Fall (Storm Summoning with a bow and katana, never seen one of these, either). All of the Tsoo had Superleap except Enforcers, but as far as I know, only Green Ink Men have it now.
-Badges didn't used to exist.
-Neither did Coyote.
-NPC teammates and escorts were from I5.
-The entrance to the Rikti Crash Site was around, but locked, in early development, according to Prima.
-Yeah, all this stuff can be found in the old Prima guide.
-Countess Crey uses the power, Boxing, as her melee attack. That just strikes me funny.
-AT inherent powers started in I5, but Defenders had to wait for theirs.
I'll see if I can dig up some more later. -
It was good. Also, I don't go to the PvP zones, so I had no clue. Guess the Arachnoids in Grandville aren't such a big deal, then. Well, at least they haven't been used yet. Also, here's some special powers and things of relevancy Jenkins has had (and still has), for reference in future stories.
Fire powers (from when he was called Psycho Flame in the first post. The powers were referenced to a few times already)
Can become a werechihuahua (from that one post in which he joined the Council. No not that post, the other post in which he joined the Council. Yeah, there's a lot of Council posts for him.)
Can reattach lost limbs by placing them against his body (he did this in that one really gritty post in which he got shot, a lot. He mentioned Dr. Vahzilok as the benefactor.)
His communicator watch plays "The Hustle" (from his adventure to Praetorian Earth)
He has flight and super strength (from his stint as a Paragon Protector)
Immune to alien probing (He met Dominatrix. Let's leave it at that.)
Will wear frilly pink panties to gain psychic powers (The carnival of shadows gave him his first pair)
This crazy Hercules Titan wants to "merge" with him (that time he pretended to be a Hercules titan)
can breathe underwater (that time the Coralax saved him from drowning by making him one of them. most of the effects have worn off, mostly due to his other mishaps)
The Hydra is his ex-girlfriend, and some of the Tsoo are his childhood buddies (those were posts unto themselves, and the first was as creepy as it was funny)
Had his memory erased at the end of his first employment with Crey (he doesn't remember it, of course)
Despite all those powers, he's still about as strong as a Rikti Monkey (because he gets beaten up almost constantly)
There you go, a bunch of things to reference in future posts. Or add a few of your own. Who knows, when we decide to retire the old boy, he may finally be able to use these powers to take over the world. -
Out of ideas? Try the Arachnoids, it isn't hard to figure out what they're about, even if they aren't implemented yet.
-
Here's one, wherein Jenkins joins the Night Haunts.
Red Hand: Yar! First mate Jenkins, where be our target?
Jenkins: (has white sheet over body, and pirate hat on his head, not really dead) Uh, it... be right over that hill over... thar. Yar?
Red Hand: Yar! We need ta be gettin' ready fer when we keelhaul them Arachnos scalliwags!
Jenkins: You know, this isn't working. I can hardly understand what you're saying, and I'm not even dead. (takes off sheet and hat)
Red Hand: Ye be mortal?! It be time fer ye ta walk the plank! Get 'im!
(A whole buttload of ghosts charge at Jenkins)
Jenkins: Oh, bloody hell.... -
After deciding that "MRVL SUX!" wasn't in the spirit of VD, I came up with one that shows my view of CoV.

This is what Marvel gets for suing NCSoft!

Well, yeah. But hide stacks with pretty much every other stealth power out there, I think - or does it? I'm not really sure myself. Doh.
[/ QUOTE ]
Concealment: Stealth and Cloak of Darkness are Mutually Exclusive.
I think you'll all be pleased with Dark/Dark for Stalkers.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, what Castle is saying is... PvPers will be able to get their stacking Stealth from Cloak of Darkness, rather than open the Concealment pool for Stealth.
And, if you do go for Stealth, it wouldn't stack with CoD...
So... Yay! No more necessary Concealment pool! (At least for DA).
Care to now expand on all of the toggles of DA, Castle? Death Shroud, Oppressive Gloom, Cloak of Fear?
C'mon!
[/ QUOTE ]
They probably won't offer cloak of darkness. Much like the /eng stalker doesn't get energy cloak.
[/ QUOTE ]
1. Stalker EA came first! Brutes got a modified version, and the melee counterpart, to replace Ice armor and melee, as the slows were counterproductive to Fury.
2. _Castle_ seemed to confirm CoD with his last post. -

Dr. Thermite prepared his lessons for the day. He enjoyed teaching, especially since he was still able to immolate any hero that dare stand in his way after work. Dr. Thermite had infused his blood with mercury, a theory that got him laughed out of the science community. He could have been a great force for good, but instead he is one of the most powerful fire-using villains on Earth. He is a genius, malevolent, calculating. He will burn any student caught disrespecting him, his class, or anything else he perceives to relate to him. He can not only use fire, but heat itself. He can boil a student's internal organs if he wants to, but can also heal their wounds should they meet as allies in the field. He teaches chemistry/genetics, two highly related subjects. He recognized one name on his class roster, James Maihem. He'd heard it in the criminal underworld. He knew that his new class would be quite interesting. He began to laugh, thinking of the potential chaos of the coming year. His maniacal cackle could be heard throughout the school building, like the laughter of a demon.
(OOC: Dr. Thermite is a fire/thermal corrupter with flight, due to his power to heat the air around him, causing it to rise. He wears a red lab coat with yellow cuffs, tights under them, with a fireball on his chest. He has tights for pants, with flames of them, same goes for his thight boots. His gloves are technological marvels that focus heat into fire, which is how his fire powers exist. They are red with yellow circuitry, called the Thermite Beam. He has round, red-rimmed glasses, and wild, white hair. He's quite mad, and testy.) -
::Threat Assessment::
SUBJECT: James "General" Maihem
AGE: 16
THREAT LEVEL: High
DESCRIPTION: A chess champion and amateur inventor, James Maihem ran into the Gray Skies mercenaries in his twelfth year. Longbow ambushed the mercenaries while they were interrogating James, and were preparing to use lethal force. James, appalled at the way heroes conducted themselves, used his inventions to save the mercenaries, and was immediately made their leader due to his ability to provide them with strategies and inventions. He is a ruthless tactician, and has recently become proficient in the use of small arms. His mercenary followers are as follows.
Reload: Small arms specialist, can reload weapons quickly.
Trigger: Small arms specialist, has finely tuned senses that allow him to get the draw on even Malta gunslingers.
Suture: Team medic, not to be underestimated in combat.
Crosshair: Special operations, renowned marksman.
Silencer: Special operations, can infiltrate any organization or area in preparation for an assault.
Napalm: Heavy arms specialist, elite commando, devastatingly powerful. If met, DO NOT ENGAGE.
----------------------------------------------------------
General Maihem had finally arrived at his new school, only to have his morning ruined by some loudmouth who exhibited signs of being a Family member. He disliked brutish behavior like extortion and threats. "Gentlemen, I'll see if this can't be resolved quietly. If the ringleader so much as moves to point that 'weapon' of his at me, kill him AND his friends," he said to his men as he walked over to where Drake was posturing. "Excuse me, if you would be so kind as to cease your bravado for the moment, my men and I would like some quiet while we explore the grounds of the school. And I guarantee you, if you even think about assaulting me, I'm afraid I'll have to retaliate. Or more accurately, they will," he pointed to the mercenaries, who had their guns ready. Except Trigger, who had his hand over his gun, ready to perform his famous quickdraw. "Make your decision, either quiet yourself, or risk death."
(OOC: General Maihem is rather unassuming when not in his outfit. His outfit is urban camoflauge fatigues (shades of grey and black), with a gray beret. He wears Patton-like sunglasses, a tactical belt, black combat boots, black gloves, and if I remember correctly, twin bullet bandoliers, as opposed to the ones with grenades on them. He also has an adorable force field generator on his shoulder, his first invention. Anything even perceived as a threat against it will be met with hot lead. He has leadership, and until the real EPPs are announced for MMs, he has Munitions Mastery as his EPP. He's like the evil Buck Shott, without the cheerfulness. He's normally quite polite and amiable, though.) -
Oh, man. I just had a Jenkins Moment (TM)
I was going through Perez Park, working on my Kill Skuls badge, I chased a runner from the street into the park (enemies may be able to jump high, but my character can jump higher). I was in the Everette Lake area, about level 25, so I was fine. I killed the Skul, but on my way out of the lake, BAM! Death by Kraken. Oh, bloody hell....
P.S. If any of you have some bad luck in-game, post it as a Jenkins Moment. That'll make it so that this thread can be bolstered by two types of posts, and not just one. Actually, if you kill an enemy in a humiliating/comedic manner, post that too, starting with "I met Jenkins!" So there's three types of Jenkins-related material on this thead. -
What, is the Jenkins Society out of ideas? Or are we gone to the Americans? Jerk hacked? Come on, the Jenkins badge isn't going to instigate itself! Try doing something with Hordelings, they haven't been done yet.
-
Oh, hey, Shingetsu. Didn't know it was you. Glad to know I got someone in Superhero 101 that remembers me when I was at my RPing best. I liked the fact that we all just fought NPCs however we wanted, within reason. It allowed us all to look awesome. As the saying almost goes, when everyone's overpowered, nobody is. And really? Darkfang has the whole thing saved? That's as awesome as how that one guy saved the entire Jenkins Conspiracy. I guess if a thread rocks, it need to be saved. Well, with the knowledge of its eventual return, I shall mourn Creeper's Inn no more, and merely await its return. /waits
-
Thanks on both counts, I hate the Mind Master more than anyone, since I created him to be everything I hate about society/people, and he was supposed to be hated. If anyone sided with the Mind Master on anything he did, they probably were psycho. Also, I loved the brute fight, Lazarus and I played PM tag telling each other how much they were going to pay for the last move they did, I even told Laz the names of all the moves I was using. I felt so cool.
As for how I got blacklisted, well, I kinda made this thread about a sort of hero boot camp called Hero Academy, but I made one of the teachers a bit too powerful, and everyone got mad, and instead of calmly letting me know that I'd crossed a line, they pretty much cussed me out/left in a huff. After that, jamh38 (was that his name?) created The New Recruits, which continued the story of the thread I'd ended myself (I declared it terminated after seeing the uproar I'd caused). I joined, trying not to screw up that time and guess what? I did! You can actually read the transcript of that event, since The New Recruits is always on the first or second page of the RP forums. I'm in the first few pages, and I eventually leave, since I was sick of being yelled at. Apparently, I had also been the direct cause of the death of a thread that I had no knowledge of offending anyone in. Well, except one guy, but that thing blew over after two or three days. That part was recent knowledge. I have recently been allowed to join Superhero 101, under probation. That is, if feeling like the Sword of Damocles is hanging above my head, ready to drop at any moment, is probation. I try not to be bitter, and I'm feeling more comfortable in the new thread I joined, and I'll hopefully be more trusted around here eventually. In fact, the thing I miss most about Creeper's Inn was that I was generally trusted, and people thought my characters were good. I'm not sure why the thread has been gone so long, maybe nobody has the time for it. By the way, who were you in CI? -
I tried to get it, but here, I'm blacklisted. Hey, remember that fight my brute had with Lazarus' brute? That was fun. Maybe Lazarus will join us again if we can get the Inn back up and running.

For those that played WoW you know who Leeroy Jenkins is. Guess who he works for. yep Arachnos. 2nd the guy is an idiot, about as much an idiot as that woman whos name escapes me that works in Atlas MAGI that lost every single magic item to the CoT, and the hero had to go retrieve it. Sometimes just 2 missions later.
For those that don't know Leeroy Jenkins, well do a search on WoW Leeroy and you will find a nice little movie about idiots in MMO games.
[/ QUOTE ]
Acctualy, he isn't the famous Leeroy Jenkins. He's acctualy just Jenkins and was spawned from a thread where someone wished you could work your way up the Crimal ladder by working for each gang and it turned into a thread of jokes where a criminal, a first called you and was later named Jenkins. He worked for every gang and inevitably quit them or gave his two weak notice. In a patch the Devs renamed the Wolf Spider at the end of Breakout Jenkins as a response to that thread, alot like the Kill Skuls badge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I created Jenkins before that thread started (I always assumed that the Jenkins in that thread was referring to the one in the tutorial mission).
Well, I shouldn't say "I created"... he was definitely inspired by a certain internet movie.
[/ QUOTE ]
What?! Say it ain't so, Posi! Our beloved moron, Jenkins, really IS Leeroy Jenkins... sorta? (Darth Vader's voice) NOOOOOOOOOO! -
Jenkins gets a wake up call. You know it's going to happen eventually.
Jenkins: Well, I finally made it to the Rogue Isles. Now I command the undead! Neato! Make me a sandwich, hahahaha!
What's this poster? Issue seven is online? The hell?
(one by one his zombie minions shrink to 1/10 their original size, and lose all their powers. Longbow immediately converge on Jenkins.)
Jenkins: Oh, bloody hell.... -
Could you tell us your rhythm and rhyming meter? It doesn't quite fit "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," so I'm at a loss as to how to read it. It's still funny though. Here's a Jenkins limerick from me.
Jenkins was doing quite well,
Empowered by a mystical spell,
The Force Bolt went "pop,"
His toggles did drop,
And Jenkins said, "Oh, bloody hell."
