Love the game.
I will keep my subscription current until such time that an MMO that can offer me everything this one does appears.
Since in 7 years none have and none on the horizon look to be able to from what I have seen, here I will be.
I have 4 friends who will remain for all the same reasons.
We think of new characters and play new combos all the time, even after years of playing.
Fickle gamers who love to nerd rage will come and go, they always have and always will.
Those of us that look for a certain type and style of game will continue to enjoy this one.
Personally, I spend almost as much time in the City as I do at work, and I put in over 40 hours at work every week. -
Quote:Your 'investment' is to have access to the servers and for your characters to be saved, etc.If this were just a box game with free multiplayer, I'd have no problem with relaxing and not worrying about people not paying attnetion to everything that needs to be done, but because I pay (and so do all the other Incarnate Content players) 15 bucks a month, I expect a certain amount of payoff for my investment.
You are not paying other players.
Quote:It seems that more people are fine with wasting time in failed attempts at trials and game content in general, which is really sad, but hey, You pay to play your way, I'll pay to play mine. Was just hoping that this suggestion would lead to a little less headache for those of us that like to get stuff done.
City is a time-wasting hobby at it's root, just like all MMOs.
If you need to 'get stuff done', why not the laundry or playing the stock market? -
Alternatively, you could just chill out and play the game in a more relaxed fashion, realizing that not every single thing must attempted must succeed and that not everyone really cares about doing it all perfectly.
*shrug* -
Hobbies cost money to produce.
You would be hard pressed to show me a successful business, with competition, that caters to a hobby, that has not changed is pricing in the last 7 seven years.
With that said, I think it has been shown over and over that for the VIP subscription, you get more than you did before Freedom. Even my most penny-pinching, frankly downright 'cheap', close friends agree with that. There is no reason to give away more than they are now.
Paragon has added more new stuff and that new stuff must bring in revenue above and beyond what the game was making previously. Both to justify the cost of having made the extra stuff, coupled with needing to be more profitable in a world where pretty much everything cost more than it it 7 years ago.
Personally, I think anyone that does not realize a company has to continue to show profits while at the same time give things like raises, pay higher rent, etc., has their head in the sand.
Additionally, NCNC is known for shutting down games that are not profitable. City must maintain a profit margin acceptable to NCNC if the servers are going to be allowed to continue to run.
If you want to game to continue, then it needs money. That's how things work. NOTHING in this world is free. -
Quote:This is precisely what I was thinking. When the OP has in the last few days used phrases like
"They are punishing us for running too many BAFs and Lams and not enough new content. Whether they follow through with the punishment or not, they have already threatened to punish us for our actions. "
"Does it even matter?
They can cancel their changes and even announce a public apology if they like.
It still doesn't change the fact that they threatened us in the first place."
I don't think they are in any position to talk about toxicity in speech from others.
The impression I get is that the OP thinks it's OK to say bad things to or about the developers, but it's not OK to call out other gamers for the things they say. -
Quote:I think my hyperbole meter just broke.Tell you what next time you play chess, well in your case checkers why don't you try rules where you and your opponent can buy pieces as you feel you need them. You wouldn't buy from each other of course but from someone who is standing nearby laughing their head off. If you want to go for the advanced version he can put marks on a few pieces that let you move them in new ways, for a small additional charge of course.
Edit: If you want to go for the really hardcore version of this game, periodically he can come over to the board wreck your positions and charge you to put them back to the way they were
Let's see...
I have purchased a number of costumes. A couple powersets. More Enhancement slots. Oh and some Thunderstrike sets.
Still playing by the same rules. Nothing that breaks the rules or changes the game. I can carry some more stuff, and I don't have to buy 3 set of Thunderstrikes with inf.
How on earth can you actually be using logic to come to the example you used?
Please do continue to try and insult my intelligence though, it really does help make your point.
I stand by my statement that the game needs to be profitable to survive and I will continue to help make it profitable so that I can continue to play it. -
Quote:My view of the world is simple as well.Yes my view of the world is simple. I view the devs as farmers that have decided to milk their cash cows.
Games need money to survive. I am happy to give the ones I enjoy playing money.
I could stand to lose a few pounds, but I think calling me a cow is a little extreme...
Also, in terms of a simple world view, there are people that don't like other people making money.
Since it takes money to make the game continue to be available, people resenting Paragon for making itself more profitable are not really needed as customers... -
Quote:Quite the opposite. You must be a very sad little person. I enjoy a game and dislike seeing it prostituted out as the people who make it sell out everything the game is about.
I am quite happy, enjoying the game and my life quite a lot. My wife loves me, I have good paying job and good health.
In fact, I get a special joy from reading posts so full over hyperbole they could float a battleship.
So, by all means, please continue to bring me great joy, I appreciate it. Really. -
Maybe we could just relax and remember it's a game, a way to pass the time away from the real world and not obsess over pixels in the wrong place.

Quote:If that's competition to you...well...let's just say I doubt most people are using the same meaning of competition. That just sounds like build envy to me.I don't know if its pay to win, but it will certainly hurt two of the remaining competitive aspects of the game, building a good build, and acquiring the materials to do so.
Quote:3. People with Dollars >>> Sense ?
Quote:Free to Play games depend on forcing the players to keep up with the Joneses
Anyone having trouble finding teams due to not having the 'perfect build' just needs to look elsewhere. I find teams constantly, more now that Freedom has launched, than I have in some time.
What I do know, is if Another_Fan is complaining about it, it must be good for the game. -
"Are we overreacting with T5s?"
Yes.
I have yet to see anything added to this game that at least a few forum posters have not overreacted to in some way though, so status quo.
Some people like the T5s, some don't. Imagine that.
I have gotten some great use from a couple, don't plan on taking others but I can see some usefulness in all of them.
As has been pointed out, even here, concept and fun trump min/max and performance for a large number of people that play. -
If you/he find something that looks like it will work, I will make sure he gets one. We can do it with a throwaway Paypal account.
-
I make about 10-12 characters, muck about with them until the mid-twenties, make 5-6 more and do the same thing, then, usually, one will stand out and yell 'play me!'
Just relax and experiment. There is no rush. -
Quote:Getting ridiculous? It was ridiculous with the OP.This is getting ridiculous, and obviously no one is going to change their mind about the way they perceive the situation... All of that considered, once again: Do you not think it would be fair if Premium players who purchased GR got access to just the Alpha Slot?
Fair has nothing to do with it. Paragon has spoken. As with everything else in the game, some players like it and others don't.
Some players have convinced themselves they have been slighted, just like with every single change ever made to the game. Other players think there has been no slight, just like with every other change to the game.
As always, watching the 'Kirk vs. Pickard' argument go round and round provides endless entertainment, if, like me, you enjoy watching nerd-rage run it's course until someone passes out from hyperventilating.
Be happy or not, it's a choice. Some people just enjoy playing the martyr. Some people enjoy taunting them. Ah, Internet drama. -
The level of entitlement and the number of wannabe lawyers in the game community never ceases to amaze me.
We even have wannabe martyrs that think the EULA somehow infringes upon our civil rights from these people.
Since they make their own lives miserable though, I can at least gain some amount of comfort that their attempts to impact the game negatively are not without consequence. -

Quote:And some of us think the prices are micro. It's prices with regards to establishing a STABLE microtransaction flow from Standard/Premium players. You know, the ones who AREN'T getting $5 a month in bribes. I'll say it again. There is NOTHING "micro" about a $10 median price point when that same $10 can get you a monthly sub AND the $5 in bribe points.
Are they too high? Time will tell.
However, just because a few forum posters do not agree with the prices, does not make them too high, any more than a few posters like me accepting makes them the right level.
For my main hobby, these prices seem just fine to me. -
While I agree the UI could use work, I can remember changing jumpers on sound cards just to play different games.
Having to click through a clunky interface is not, in any way, going to daunt me from finding and purchasing the goodies I desire.
I mean, if I wait in line at a retail establishment or restaurant and endure the inane conversations of the patrons ahead of me that don't understand what things like 'on the side' or 'buy 5 get one free' mean, I can have the patience to navigate through a few menus.
For me, there is no mistrust, there is no fear, there are only goodies waiting for me to acquire them. -
My perspective:
I dropped $100. I bought everything that wanted right now, it allowed me to get all of the token slots filled, left me 2 tokens extra for the rotating items in the future and I have 6870 point for buying more stuff as I want it.
Loving it all, happy to be able to give Paragon the money to continue to build the game, I don't feel the least bit bad about any of it. -
Quote:All I can say is, some people are taking their video games WAY too seriously.Think about the math involved.
Running someone through a farm and completing all of the ambushes for the fastest xp/sec takes about 4 minutes. Running in solo without bosses, you cap tickets in 1.
Farming someone else costs the Farmer 3 runs which is 4500 tickets.
When rolling 15-19 bronze, each ticket is worth an average of 13.9 k.
13900 x 4500 = 62.55 million influence taking that passenger put the Farmer out of pocket.
It takes a fairly charitable soul or one who doesn't understand the value of influence to be willing to take someone at such an expense. Conversely, it takes apretty selfish (or genuinely poor) soul to not be willing to compensate that farmer for at least some of his losses.
If someone tried to 'charge' me, in anyway, to go on a mission in City of Heroes, I would laugh in their face.
You, Sir, are part of the problem that gives gamers a bad rap. -
Quote:How did you infer I had any such proof? This is a fascinating inference. Could you explain how you reasoned it out? I assume that you have handy a proof that there's not a single living human anywhere who cares what documents say?
My comment stands. Anyone that will quit over the new EULA is looking for an excuse to quit.
Of course there are humans that care about documents. I care very much what many of the documents I signed for my condo say, for instance.
A EULA of this type is, in no way, enforceable to a degree that would violate anyone's rights. That would be illegal, making the EULA null and void.
If someone quits because they are under the impression it violates their rights, they are mistaken, to put it lightly.
So, again, anyone so pedantic as to quit over the new EULA, is simply looking for an excuse to create drama over nothing, get attention and in the end, was looking for an excuse to quit anyway.
Would you like it better if I threw in a few IMO's? -
-
Quote:So?...and this is why.
This is a gross violation of my privacy and civil rights, and I will not subject myself to this. [edited]. I'm posting this so that whoever in NCSoft may see it that may change this. If you take this out, I may continue to subscribe in the future. But as it stands, I'm done. I've been paying for the past seven years almost, and for the last two or three without even playing most of the time. [edited]
Edited: With the permission of the OP, edited so that it did not violate the Forum Rules. -Z
Anyone that will quit over the new EULA is just looking for an excuse anyway. Good riddance. -
Quote:Again with the irrational fear of the big mean companies out to get us and trying to say we are blind to it.MMO companies think we won't play a game past a few months without a really long leveling grind and then endgame grind.
Originally, CoH had only a relatively short endgame grind and yet we stayed. FPS games have pretty much no grind and even the things that would qualify as gridn there are not thought of as grind because they're so fun and don't ram numbers down your throat, just waves of dynamic enemies.
We pay for fun, but MMO companies give us more grind than fun.
So given the truth of the game's past development and constant goals of making money and retaining players, they will be adding much more to the store than your allowance can ever purchase to try to keep you playing the game forever and the exclusives in the subscription are there to try to keep you subscribing in addition to making cash shop purchases above and beyond your monthly allowance.
Yes, it is opinion how much the subscription benefits are worth, but I still believe you people have not given that enough thought. You just automatically "renew sub" without ever considering that you may end up with an expensive deal.
Please take your fear and loathing of companies with you when you unsubscribe.
Just because you, and others, have realized that the best value for YOU is to go Premium does not in anyway 'prove' that the best value for everyone is to do so, especially when you are arbitrarily labeling certain things as worthless or stating that if you ran the world they would not be exclusive to VIPs.
Good for you, premium is a better deal. Aren't you glad Paragon is offering it?
Now, please go enjoy it and stop trying to call those of us with different value perspectives gullible and stupid and allow us to enjoy the game the way we wish to, as we are allowing you to do.
