I'm not saying that it's a bad build. I'm saying that it's not remotely the most survivable Invulnerability build I've seen.
-
... How is that possibly the best Invulnerability build you've seen? Do you go out of your way to avoid looking at Invulnerability builds?
And yes, a set that provides both a defense bonus and a recharge bonus is something special. There is no other melee set that does that.
As to your numbers, yes, that is exactly how 20% works. If one person is taking 100 damage and the other person is taking 120 damage, the second person is taking 20% more damage than the first person.
But I don't see why limiting the sets to specific ATs should make them any better than normal sets. I mean, yes, they're as good as (or better than) most rare sets already. They aren't as good as purples, but (again) I don't think they should be. -
Quote:I'm sorry, but you're flat out wrong about that. Smashing and Lethal typed attacks are still the most common in the game. And when building to the soft cap, even 1.25% set bonuses are useful, just look how many builds use Reactive armour.Defense is mostly useful if you can stack a lot of it together or if you already have a fair amount of Defense in your powers to begin with....3% defense to one specific attack type is statistically insignificant...BrandX is right, it should be a flat defense bonus to all types of attack, not just one type...
Quote:Resistance is even less useful because there's less of it out there to build on...it takes too much effort to get a statistically significant amount of resist out of set-bonuses...if you have a resist heavy set, then it really doesn't add that much, if you have very little resist, then it really doesn't add that much...
Quote:look for acc, recharge, recovery, health, regen and end....if you have a set with a specific hole in its defense, then look at defense (which is why Kinetic Combat is popular right now, it fills a hole in S/L defense), but unless you only have one hole, you're not going to be able to focus enough to actually fill it....and forget about resist...as said, not enough out there and what is there is largely too hard to get to make what you'd lose worth it.
Kinetic Combat is not popular because it fills a hole in Smashing/Lethal defense. I mean, take a look at all the Invulnerability tanks that use Kinetic Combat. We don't use it because we're weak to Smashing/Lethal damage. We use it because 1) More defense doesn't hurt (unless you're already at 59% defense) and 2) it provides protection to attacks like Fire Sword (because we don't have a lot of fire resistance). -

Quote:Yes, they are unique, but they're also purchased items (or so I believe because it looks like they have the same border as the set I purchased at Comic Con). However, these are all unique IOs (like the Purple Sets) and I would like to see some changes to them.
As purchased items, they should be nice, but they shouldn't be awesome. They shouldn't be as good as purples. -
Quote:The even level part comes with all purchased enhancements. If you buy a set of Thunderstrike from the store, it'll always be even level (but you won't be able to slot it until level 27). The set is otherwise functionally identical to the invention set Thunderstrike.Yet they'll *always* be even-level to you, if you read more than just the set bonuses. With their effectiveness increasing as you level. They're going to have a tradeoff for that.
I have to disagree with the analysis of the set bonuses though.
2.5 Smashing/Lethal defense is really nice to have on Brutes, especially since it's a set with a recharge bonus too. There is no other melee set that gives defense and recharge. Every one of those set bonuses is more useful than 1.77% immobilization resistance, for example.
The Tanker set, well, it's my experience that the +1.88% health bonuses are pretty easy to get, and so another set with the same bonus isn't going to be terribly helpful. Smashing/lethal resistance isn't helpful to Major Decoy, but it could be nice for my Electric Armour tanker. It wouldn't hurt to have a larger bonus though. The Psionic and Toxic resistance offered doesn't seem to be terribly helpful either. Again, every bonus is better than % status resistance.
Really, how do you decide which bonuses are useful and which aren't? -
Well, it helps with Tactics too, for people who want the to-hit boost for the incarnate content but don't feel the need for any other leadership powers.
-
You can do knock-back with just one Acc/Dam/Knockback enhancement slotted.
Edit: Well, one level 50 Acc/Dam/Knockback enhancement. -
If they made it so that you could get Weave without Boxing or Kick, they might as well reduce the fighting pool to just Tough and Weave.
-
Actually, yes. I have tried playing a Warshade. Only to level 33 though. It's not a playstyle I particularly enjoy.

Quote:According to the text, the blaster proc will fire an average of four times a minute. I really don't think that compares to Fire's secondary effect.I agree. The blaster one galls me in the same way. First, they are freely giving away the Fire secondary effect even more now (as if Reactive wasn't enough, how about some more energy or toxic or something). Second, why even more damage for a blaster? Why not a high chance proc to heal self or give a good regen boost?
As to the Tanker +Res, before I comment on how useful it is, I'd need to know:
1) How much +Res it offers
2) How long the +Res lasts
3) How frequently it procs
I don't think that the set bonuses should be as good as purple sets, but I do think they should be slightly better. +2.25% health instead of 1.88% perhaps. Double the resistance values in the 5th and 6th slots maybe? -
The precise choice is:
"Give Hero some of your energy" or "Steal Energy from Hero" -
This sounds like fun, and I firmly believe that we need more power pool options.
-
Unless you think they'll release a new premium power set (the name for the power sets that you need to spend points on) about every two months, you'll be able to get the new power sets and have points later to spend on other things.
And you'll get a free server transfer every month, so you don't need to buy those.
You can prioritize your purchases too. Only buy the power sets and costume items that you'll use. -
Going Rogue only cost you 10 dollars because you waited until it was cheap.
These power sets cost 800 points. That's two months. If you save your points for two months, you're not paying any extra to get them. They are, in effect, free.
Are you complaining that you're not getting enough free stuff because they expect you to spend those 400 points a month on new power sets?
You will be spending your points on luxury stuff like new power sets, more enhancement trays, and costume pieces that would have ended up in paid packs like the Steampunk Pack.
There will still be some free costume items for VIP members, and some free power sets, but you can't expect every power set and every costume item to be free, because that's never been the case. -
Quote:I'll remind you that Kinetic Melee, Dual Pistols, and Demon Summoning were not free. You did not get access to them if you did not purchase Going Rogue. This is something that confuses, and rubs me the wrong way....
I will be staying "VIP." I'm wondering if my "free points" will actually be an added luxury for things like packs, respecs, etc. or if I will have to spend them unlocking new stuff like powersets or costumes that under the current model I would be getting in free updates anyways.
As a VIP member, there will be some free power sets, like Time Manipulation, but there will be some power sets that you will have to buy. -
Quote:What? How are we running out of power choices? With fitness inherent, we have more powers than ever before.Tell Posi to make those travel powers at L4 inherent, because we are all out of power choices already.
What we're running out of is powers to choose from. We need more power pools. -
On the plus side, if you draw dual pistols right before activating the Hover Board, you'll keep them drawn for a while. It looks kind of cool.
-
It just felt really slow. But then, I can barely use fly because it feels so slow. The only travel power I really enjoy is Super Jump.

Quote:They changed the visual style of the character creation screen, but I didn't notice any functional changes to it. Same drop down menus. I didn't think to check the chest options, but I'll take a look at them today. If there's still a massive list for those instead of breaking it down into subsections, I'll assume that they haven't done anything to make it easier to navigate costume options. The character creation screen is nothing glamorous and even for me it's a bit of headache finding the right costume pieces - so if this has been streamlined and made any easier, I'm all for it.
I hated the Breakout and Outbreak tutorials. Avoided them like the plague. I like knowing there's now one tutorial and I get to make a morality choice then instead of at level 20
As to the new tutorial, there's something entire new to it; you hit level 2 before it's over. I didn't play all the way through the tutorial (I wanted to save that for a character on my account), so it might have ended shortly after, but there were still Shivans to fight after training up to level 2. -
Well, it has nothing to do with this thread, because it took them more than one day to make the changes they did, but there's an entirely revamped character creation process.
They have updated the Tanker description. I assume it's okay to talk about stuff at the SDICC. -

Well, if you look at the top of the page, Sister Psyche has the semi-circular shoulder pads. You show one of those, with a flap of green fabric attached so people don't think it's Xena's chakram.
Numina is harder because everything about her is a bit ectoplasmic. I don't think she's in much danger here.
Citadel... well, if his head were blown off and missing the face, that could work. -
Quote:Edit: Why his helmet? Is that necessarily the most recognizable part of his costume? For Statesman, I'm not sure they can use anything but a cracked face mask. For positron, I'd go with a shoulder pad. Except, they might have to use the should pads for Sister Psyche...I am loving these. Just... damn.
And I'll admit it right now - if they follow this trend and smash Positron's helmet, I will probably cry.

A portion of his chest plate maybe?
