As part of the Redside tutorial: you could help a Vhazilok Eidolon escape from a cell. She'd then offer to perform a gratis "cosmetic surgery" to make it harder for Longbow to find you, and tell you to go meet her boss once you reach level 20.
This is a fantastic idea! I've liked the general progression of this suggestion brought forth here, and as I was reading each of the entries, it seemed a 'thematic' (contact, info station, etc) input into the turotial zones in regards to getting information about and updating/changing your costume while in the turorial would make this better, especially with the new advent of power customization. Kudos! This is the right answer here!

Not only is this something that everyone could profit from (as mentioned, we make some mistakes to our costumes, lighting is an issue, etc), but it also is perfect for introducing Icon and the Facemaker to new players, and letting them know when next they expect to see them.

The Tutorial zones haven't had any new additions since the devs added the 'extra' information station 'clicky' about Inventions, thus this would be a perfect 'update' to the Turorials to get others to get back into it. As it stands, it seems that "Going Rogue" is going to introduce a change into how you start up a character, so why not implement this as part of/prior to Going Rogue Expansion?

Great idea and I strongly approve of this!
  2. 100% agree, Memphis Bill. These would all be great assets to base editing!

    Kudos on the suggestions!

This is pretty much what I ascertained as to why the devs changed the Freakshow XP.

They're simply anticipating that once the AE changes take effect with I16 on live, the path or least resistance for farmers will be towards farming Freaks again, which of course would be brought up and forumed heavily about for weeks/months to come by those unhappy with farming every freak mish.

I'm sure farmers will find other mishes and means to farm with, but with this, it won't be an obvious path for them once I16 goes live. As mentioned earlier, it seems this was overdue to be fixed this way regardless.

    Kudos on dev foresight, IMO.
  4. What was the editor/program you used to do this? I've been wanting to do the same thing you're doing, but haven't found a viable program that's available. I think the one I was looking for was Comic Creator, but it's been awhile since I went hunting.

Any startup help in where/how to get the editor/program would be greatly appreciated!

And to the OP, the story you did is OH so true! Good job!
  5. Vojin,

If it helps at all, a trick I had to do with many of my small SGs/VGs, aside from filling with alts to get the 15 person max prestige bonuses, was to coalition with another SG/VG and use their teleporters/vault until I was albe to get the energy and control rooms geared up. This took time, but it woiuld've taken far longer if I had to pay for teleporter room(s), telporter(s), and beacon(s).

Not all of my SGs/VGs have teleporters, but if you see me online (@Major Deej - global), I would be happy to coalition with you for what bases that may have teelporters/vault available to you to use while you build up energy/power.

I have a list of SGs and VGs via the link in my sig below (Major Deej Universe). On those SG/VGs website is a photo gallery where you can see if that particular server's base(s) have teleporters or not. If you see a base that would be helpful to you (not sure which server you are on), send me an in-game tell if I can help with getting a coalition going to help you along, if I can.

It's tough to get a solo SG/VG going; some of mine are nearly 3 years old and are still don't have a lot of the quality functions we all would enjoy in our bases.

May you have continued good luck with your base building!
  6. Great article and an excellent way of giving kudos to those that worked so hard on this.

My personal favorite line in the article was:

    Quote:
"To that end, every character in the game will receive a free Tailor session for every costume slot they have unlocked, when Issue 16 is released on the Live servers this summer/fall. This is our special thanks to our players for never giving up on suggesting the feature to us, no matter how "impossible" we might have said it was to do in the past."
Thanks CoH Team!! I'm waiting with bated breath for Issue 16 to go live!
  7. Agreed! Ever since I started this game, I always imagined this would be a fantastic feature that should have been made available as a power in an AT that doesn't have pets (or limited pets) or as an epic power. A customizable (CC Version II) sidekick, with set powers, as you suggested based on a melee and ranged set of powers. Maybe even make a couple of different power animation options available as a choice under power customization.

I would completely love to see this on the heroes side!

Images of Captain America/Bucky and Batman/Robin come to mindn how awesome this would be!
  8. I wanted to be there last night, but as with all of us, the servers being down disrupted another great Tanker Tuesday start up.

I did get to spend time watching a movie with the family, so, time was still spent well.

I hope all that eventually attended had a good time.

It's a shame the patch rollback happened. I truly enjoy attending Tanker Tuesday every chance I get.

Ah well, looking forward to the 5th Anniversary!!!
  9. Initially had issue that wouldn't allow me to post, reply or anything, but has since resolved. Learning the eccentricities now.
  10. It's official. My office mates now think I'm insane. I laughed out loud several times, trying to supress but just couldn't.

This is classic. Thank you for making my Friday less painful, Steel!
  11. Most awesome indeed! Especially the shots of the CC 2.0 screens!
  12. For Natural, I'd like to see a few more options for street clothes (torn jeans, casual shirts, jerseys, etc) as well as some military looking features (revised/updated BDU uniforms, flight caps, flight suits/military coveralls, combat helmets, etc), and if possible, some additional weapons (M16s, M60s, vulcan mini-canon, Bowie Knife, butcher knife, blackjack weapon, brass knuckles, chainsaw, etc).

For mutant, a long overdue feature of animal heads, hands, feet, tails and bodies seems appropriate, notably fish-like, bear-type, horse-like, bird-like (a personal desire for this one), and maybe even the much-requested updated werewolf features (tail, especially).

For powers, I'd expect another costume change emote for each (can't think of any good ones to do other than those mentioned already), and at least, again as mentioned earlier, some type of an adrenaline power (ups your damage, speed, and endurance for a short period of time with an appropriate crash thereafter).

I'd also like to propose something for FUTURE boosters (although I'd rather see them as standard free issue content) to have:

BACK BOOSTER PACK: quivers, backpacks, field packs, shotgun sheathes (back mounted), docker's clutch straps/holster, jetpacks, single and duo sword sheathes (on the back), mobile comms pack, scuba tank (single and duo tanks) and a high tech power pack with flashy lights and things on it for a futuristic/tech look.

AQUATIC BOOSTER PACK: A couple of Fish costumes/skin features for all body parts/locations, 'creature of the black lagoon' looking head, sharks head, squid head, webbed hands/feet, gills/fish ears, fins, etc. Also like to have a hyper-swim power for like super speed but with swimming animation. An emote with bubbles rising from the mouth of the toon would be icing on the cake.

SPACE BOOSTER PACK: Space helmets (with shiny visor and with visor open, spacesuit (bulky and thin), space backpack, MMMU space jetpack, with an emote of where a toon looks like he is slowly spinning/free floating in space.

Again, just suggestions. I would of course rather see all these items available to all players as part of free issues vice booster packs, but the precedent, unfortunately, has been set, and I'm believing that NCSoft is not about to walk away from profitable ideas such as booster packs anytime soon.
  13. Got mine! Just have to wait two more hours to get done with work so I can check it out!
  14. Took the family to see the midnight showing as well. They loved it. Both my sons hadn't read this movie's books yet, so they were quite shocked by the results of the 'end' of the movie.

They enjoyed a few of the light-hearted scenes (Ron and his infatuations), and most definitely liked and laughed at Harry's actions after he chugged down the Luck Potion.

The particularly powerful 'end' event (Dumbeldorf) was as anti-climactic as it was in the book in my opinion, however, I think that's the feel the author and the director wanted to go with. The actor who played Malfoy finally had his moment in the sun with his 'show-down' with Dumbledorf; for once, it seems that Malfoy wasn't as evil as he was expected to be (my opinion of course).

To all wanting to see it, go see it! NOW! It was a terrific movie! I laughed! I cried! I got 3 hours of sleep before I had to go to work after this!

    Enjoy!
  15. Ordered and applied. I'll check it out when I get home from work!

  17. Sent you the Champions of Arachnos base. Enjoy!
  18. I'll be working up one for the 'Champions of Arachnos' VG base on Freedom. Hope to have it in to you Thursday night/Friday.
  19. WAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    Time to stomp some Rikti!!!!

For those negative nellies, remember the first time YOU were part of a Ritki Invasion, or any of the earlier issue invasions? The adrenaline pumping? The vastness? The epic battling? Bombs dropping all around you? Fighitng side by side with your friends, SG or VG?

Well, we have a lot of new folks over the last several months that may NOT have had the privilege we've had!

I'm sure those unwilling and non-desirous of participating can find another zone or AE building to hide in while espousing their ire.

I would imagine that well-played, veteran players would at least have the chutzpah to go the distance and show our new members how a community takes care of itself and the Ritki, especially to prove the words 'can't' or 'won't' are in your vocabulary in taking on a simple challenge, like maybe organizing your SG or VG to muster up members for a few hours of zone-hopping, Rikti Invasion-stomping at the SG/VG level itself, or upping the ante and organizing and taking down a Ritki Dropship during the invasion.

I'm sure the Devs know this is old to us veteran players. We, as vets, can do out part by making this a memorable event for the new players and SG/VG members alike.

The benefits of our actions may get some of the die-hard AE players to 'step outside' of their AE enclosures and try something new, maybe even be impressed enough to join SGs/VGs or try hopping to other invaded zones to re-experience the rush they got in their first invasion, which may be this weekend.

We once were in the same shoes as all our new members are now. Let's not forget those that made the difference in our early gaming experience, especially in unique events such as this.
  20. Agreed. All the new Issue 15 FX sounds are good . . . except the door sounds. It just isn't right.

The devs need to look into a different door sound that this new one.

    FOR SCIENCE

    They blinded me with science!

This is great! I have a few toons that will benefit directly as a result of this, especially since I've tabled them for sooo long because thematically I wasn't able to change their sizes effectually; now this is available!

I do like the lab coat and goggle sets! I can definitely use the mad scientist head/hair to replace the balding haired one I have already; WIN!
  22. Great job, Mngwa!

I did not have a good impression of MMOs when I started, due the the nasty, 'I pwnz you', 'stoopid noob' response I always got (and that was me trying to learn the game while playing).

I gave it one last try; City of Heroes. I was pleasantly surprised at the friendly, helpful nature of most of the folks I encountered. It was extremely refreshing. My main started on Guardian server, and received lots of help, camaraderie ...and cookies. I felt more like a member of the community with this game than any other.

As such, I have done what I can to help others in learning the game. I am into the "give a man a fish, you'll feed him for a day; teach him to fish, and he'll be fed for a lifetime" mentality.
Show them the things you remember were tough to understand and ambiguous when you started the game, just as an example. Point them to Paragonwiki; introduce them to the forums, point them to the University tutorial, mention the chat/help channels, etc.

The game is what it is; AE is the current FoM aligned to allow for a fast means of leveling/loot. You can't blame the new players for this; most don't know any better. They are playing the game they see as is provided, or being shown by friends who also quickly level/gain loot in the game. Quite simply, some enjoy the rapid 'gotta have now' race to 50. I can't say anything about other people's play style, other than taking the responsibility to show them the other side of the tracks and hope they like what they see.

In order to 'fix' the exploits and means by which the devs 'don't want us to play' , the game always needs money (which they have found numerous ways of late with super booster packs, renaming and server transfers). The more money, the more workers; the more workers, the more fixes (and content!). As such, helping show new CoH players the other side of the street, such as the game's great long-term content, storylines, TFs/SFs, Mothership Raids, Hami Raids, RPing, etc., is overall best for all of us. It gets them to our level of good player experience, as well as keeping them in the game for the longer haul.

In my SGs and VGs, we do this all the time. We help where we can in teaching them the game, not giving them the quick-fix, rapid means of playing. Most that I have helped have enjoyed the rest of the game's content, and have stayed; some didn't. You can't please all the people all the time.

What Mngwa did is indeed a credit to one's self. THIS is how it should be done not only in-game but IRL. Those that learn how to do their RL 'job' are better at doing it and may take it as a career; in parallel, a player who is taught 'how to play' may well be a better player, and will stay, making for a much better community and maybe even a die-hard player like most forumites here.

I wouldn't even be playing MMOs anymore if it wasn't for those that taught me 'how to fish' instead of 'here's a fish' or 'go'way, noob'.

    Food for thought.
  23. Indeed, and condolences.

I agree, we should, as gamers, do what we can to take care of ourselves better. I have seen on these forums alone a few folks who are turning their sedentary/poor eating habits around and are making positive progress. I am one of these few.

I gained over 40 pounds this last 3 years due to my job's sedentary nature as well as my gaming time. This last few months, after experiencing a heart condition at 42, it was time for change. More exercising, better quality of food, and portioning has helped to drop a good chunk of weight already.

Great advise to all. 40 is too young to go. Take that extra time and effort to prevent this, after all, your body is the greatest instrument you will ever own.

OMG, this means we're finally going to get an expansion for farmers: Orchard of Heroes

Finally, we get to plant and cultivate trees to provide us with fruit that we can use to make various fruit-based products, which we then must transport across state lines, dealing with villainous tariffs and interstate export laws, finally getting our big payoff when we successfully deliver our products to Paragon City.

I'm totally preordering the OoH expansion as soon as I can! Can I get in the beta?
