I have one that is quite unique...since he's on each server!
Chrononaut
(or name variation with a "." on end)
Within a day of Ourboros issue going live, I got the "Chrononaut" badge while hunting the zone for any additional badges (a full day of location/badge hunting, all for one badge). I thought it was a great name (since I'd created a Marvel Super heroes RPG character called that once), and checked to see if the name was available; it was! Thus I got to work on the cross-server idea.
Anyways...
I made this character up with the same costume, same powers (grav/kin Controller with Stealth and teleport pool powers), same look; different levels, all on each server.
His origin is he is from the future, and went back (as part of his historical archive duties) to get better records of the events that happened in Paragon City at the start of the 21st century. During his travel, his belt device malfunctioned, and continues to malfunction every several to a hundred uses of his teleportation power; this 'malfunction' sometimes shunts him into a parallel dimension (Liberty, Guardian, Freedom, etc (all servers)) where he tries to record history, but usually gets confused and annoyed that things get 'different' when he unknowingly shunts to parallel dimensions (servers).
He has tried to repair his timebelt and get back but he just keeps shunting 'sideways' in time instead.
To prevent others from knowing he exists, he's supposed to 'flash' people with the same type of device in the movie MIB to wipe their memory of him.
I've had a lot of fun with this toon! A few times I went to do an SG event where my villain VGs got to PvP against him; then later that night they'd shift to another server and see "chrononaut" in their zone searches, send a tell, and be surprised its the same toon (per se). -
Steelclaw, for the Giant Turkey GM, you forgot about one of its most devestating powers, the "Triptophan Combined Attack"!
This uses a combined unique mental attack of "Mass Hypnosis" (ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Sleep) and "Total Domination" (Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Hold) with a 10% chance of "Mass Confusion" (Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Confuse). The Mass Confusion makes you want to wander off, find a "Lost" Headman Blaster or Mutate Slammer (the ones with the TV for a helmet) and try and watch football.Devestating attack power!!!
Save me dem giblets! -
Okay, here's a loaded question:
With tons of arcs published and made, there seems to be a large amount of arcs/missions made into (currently unplayable) Farm arcs, or were arcs that were published instead of 'tested' and are in piecemeal or incompatible states of play.
With that in mind, are there any plans to do arc/mission 'purges', or for that fact, a way for players that are managing their arcs/missions to 'flag' them as 'do not purge' prior to a possible cleaning-of-house purge? -
Being from Rhode Island, I too have been unhappy about our legal inability to participate in CoH contests; the Architect Challenge, strangely enough, should have been authorized for Rhode Island residents in lieu of the fact that this contest's combined prized value of $0.00 should be enough to exclude them from said provisio (vice the $500 minimum value required to file under Rhode Island's Section 11-50-1 and pay fees and play with paperwork with the RI Secretary of State).
I sent PMs to Avantea, TheOcho and Dr.Aeon; Dr.Aeon has informed me that, unfortunately, they can't change the requirements for this particular AE Challenge contest, however he was going to get this information to the right people to vie for Rhode Island legal authorization to participate in any successive AE Challenge contests. This isn't a 'for sure' resolution yet, but I'm sure once the legal eagles get done deciphiring Section 11-50-1, I'm sure the Rhodies of RI will get a fighting chance to participate in future "CoH $0.00 valued AE Challenge contests" for a game that is based in theme in Rhode Island. *crosses fingers*
To all my fellow 'excludees'; I'm with you and understand your pain. If resolution isn't found by the game's legal eagles for RI's exclusion, I'll be sure (which I've already started a ball rolling with my state reps) to get this issue addressed with the state government. Maybe this is an opportunity to get a little experience with how 'the system' can be fought/changed? Time will tell. -
I sent a PM to Dr. Aeon, TheOcho and Avatea regarding a potential opportunity for Rhode Islanders to possibly particiate in this contest.
It's up to them and/or the lawyers to hash out, but the following pretty much states Rhode Islanders can legally particiapte without having to file or pay a fee in this particular contest (all this is CoH/NCSoft decision pending, of course)

Of particular interest, the statute, Section 11-50-1 of Rhode Island General Laws, reads:
"Any person, firm, or corporation proposing to engage in any game, contest, or other promotion or advertising scheme or plan in which a retail establishment offers the opportunity to receive gifts, prizes, or gratuities, as determined by chance, in order to promote its retail business, where the total announced value of the prizes offered to the general public is in excess of five hundred dollars ($500), must file a statement with the secretary of state."
All follow-on sub-statutes all reference Section 11-50-1, thus it seems to me Rhode Island is clear of any legal issues in this regard. Since this contest does not provide a prize in excess of $500 (this contest's "as advertised" value is "$0.00"), this should make the requirement null and void and thus allow Rhode Islanders to potentially be allowed to participate in at least ONE CoH contest.
I'm hoping the lawyers/community relations team are able to allow us few Rhodeys a fighting chance this time. Please?

My apologies for interfering and replying to your forums.
My forum skills and sense of forum posting style, from all indications (tons of neg rep; thanks guys), are not welcome here. I thought using a little 'passive motivation', some additional suggestions and a little mention of taking this as a challenge might keep the idea alive, the suggestions flowing and maybe garner some hope of having this zone one day.
My mistake.
(/drama)Obviously I dared to play in your pool.(/enddrama)
To end a particular point, yes, I emulated and liked Aquaman when I was very young. He motivated me to learn how to swim, hold my breath a long time underwater, etc; he is not my favorite these days for reasons, as mentioned earlier by some, due to poor writers on his books and the drab means by which they keep trying to make him different. He did have a memorable, positive, motivating impact when I was young though; yep, "lame" Aquaman. I at least respect that notion of what Aquaman meant to me then.
And regardless of how any of you took it, BaBs is still the man. It would've been an honor to have had him and his team do the zone 'right'.
Carry on. -

Wow. I mean...really. Wow.
Not only are my dreams and desires to see an interactive underwater zone in CoH completely crushed, but one of my first heroes I emulated to learn how to swim (Aquaman) is now considered lame by a dev I truly repsected.
Aside from some very dynamic and well thought out discussions on this, and with the understanding that the 'quality' of the zone/power effects/travel in an underwater zone are considered high on there 'needs' list for any willing to make this zone happen, I must truly say that I'm saddened by the motivation-stopping brakes that were just applied to this particular player request.
Are there work arounds that can be done? Sure. Sam (et al) noted making underwater bases and maps using a variant of the arachnos base maps to maybe redraw them as a base being underwater or walking through underwater tubes (replace the wall mesh with glass; change the inaccessible background behind the mesh/glass to water with little fishes and sharks swimming along; have a few drips coming from pipes, tanks, water puddles to slip on, etc). Granted this idea/workaround doesn't allow for an interactive 'swim free' zone to do battle in, which would indeed be the penultimate environment to battle in (space = ultimate), but it seems there are more detractors than optimizers even in this particular train of request.
In many respects, I understand the work involved. It would, indeed, be a huge challenge to make this environment to any degree of battle-capable quality.
If we were to have an interactive underwater zone for heroes/villains to swim and battle in, from previous discussions in this thread, the use and feel of powers in that environment seem to be the major detractor. For that, I cannot think of any alternate solutions other than maybe crafting a "magic" or "science" artifact/item that allows a character (while in the underwater zone) to fight in that medium as if they were fighting above ground wherein the characters/NPCs would move around with a 'flight/swim" mode much like that in the underwater swimming maps that some of us have experienced in-game already and battle as normally as if they were above water. In this repsect, the zone's storylines, missions and content should be the primary focus; the underwater environment is a medium that any story designer could tell you is a setting or backdrop to the storyline. With a little imagination, the latter can be done.
Options for a few things that come to mind in regards to underwater breathing have already been mentioned, however, to add what I can, the design that is utilized for characters to use backpack-style fire extinguishers in fighting fires in Steel Canyon in the game can be modified to be scuba tanks that can be purchased/provided by an NPC prior to entering an underwater zone, with a 1 (or 2 or more) hour(s) air supply, otherwise, they loose health in that environment without it. Have some 'domed' or "air pocket" areas in the zone where players/NPCs can battle, swim/run to, talk to contacts, merit vendors, trainers, etc. These 'domed' or 'air pocket' areas can be even joined together with air-filled tubes or even underground tunnels. There are always options with a little imagination. What's to say the Atlanteans/Lemurians/whatever-group-that-is-made need air as well as water to live?
Nontheless, it seems our requests and inputs for this feature shall fall on deaf ears.
In the past, I've taken challenges that were deemed impossible to do; I've overcome some incredible adversity in my life to get where I am now; I have (to quote good 'ole Clint Eastwood) "Overcome, adapted and improvised" on many critical tasks set before me. The CoH/CoV Devs have also met many challenges set before them and triumphed. I am quite surprised that the "Freem Team" is letting 'water' stop them.
I find this squashing of any potential of an underwater zone/maps/storyline disheartening. Optimism, I guess, can be fleeting.
I have a couple of puppies ya'll can kick while your at it to just keep the flow going... -
I'd love some professional feedback! I do technical engineering and quality assurance in my day job, and as such, I love to get good solid feedback on any work I do! Thanks for doing this!
The Attack of the Atlantic Kingdom
Arc ID: 254025
Length: Very Long
Morality: Heroic
Story:
The Atlantic Kingdom, a ruthless militaristic undersea dictatorship, is demanding the United Nations recognize them as a sovereign nation - a nation that encompasses the Atlantic Ocean! To press their point, they have invaded Paragon City! Is this their plan or is ther more to this attack?
Global: @Major Deej
Warning! Arc may contain Archvillians, Elite Bosses -
We had a banner event happen in Grandville on Freedom last night, and as the masses were beating down the defenders and banners, the Arachnos Flyer showed.
This was definitely memorable because the lag went into super-rubberbanding mode for everyone in the zone where it would consistantly rubberband you in your travels and then after a couple minutes, you'd get rubberbanded back to the same spot you were 2 minutes prior. I hadn't rubberbanded this bad since when i played on my old Dell Dimension computer (got a Dell XPS system now and its sweeeet!) during Rikti Invasions in the same zone.
I'm pretty sure Eochi/Jack/normal zone GMs continue to spawn even during the banner event.
What MIGHT be a good suggestion in my case I experienced is for the devs (and this is depending on how they coded the banner event) is to shut off the normal GMs at least during the banner event. -
No one told me there was going to be a test today! NOOOOOO!!!! I didn't study!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!
*breaks out old college books randomly memorizing anything in them....*
btw, yojack, welcome to the forums!!! Please leave sanity at the door.... -
An issue I ran into with the auto-doc in my base is similar. It more than likely relates to item collisions/intersecting or overlaying item placement fields.
I placed one of the ground-level ionizer plates under my base's Auto-Doc and was unable to click on it as well; once I removed the item, which had its boudaries intersecting/overlaying into the auto-docs, I was able to use the auto-doc again.
Go back into the base editor, check for any pillars, lights, etc that may be intersecting with your Tree of Life's placement field, and remove those intersecting items from the rectangular field that the tree of life has. Might also want to ensure that the Tree of Life is on a solid surface or raised properly enough with stacking to prevent inadvertent collisions.
As long as you have no item collisons, that should do the trick. -
Just some suggestions; I can't check to see if these names are available or not at the moment:
Azurian Archer
Azurian Bowman
Blue Sharpshooter
Azurian Sharpshooter
Master Marksman
Azure Jay (actual bird)
Azure-Hooded Jay (actual bird)
Midnight Blue Archer
Cobalt Sharpshooter
Some of these may have been mentioned already. Good Luck. -
I'll bring one of my tanks! Good to see this on Justice!

Welcome aboard, Dr. Aeon!
It'll be great to have you working with us on Mission Architect!

Greetings all!
First, I must add to all the good comments about last night's Tanker Tuesday 5th Anniversary Event! It was a spectacular night, with lots of tanking goodness for all!
As such, I took a few images for all to see! Enjoy, and thank you to Netminder, Anonymouse, Pep Rally, Acemace, Greystone Aegis and all the others that made this a fun and exciting night!

tl,dr: It looks like it's a criminal offense to offer contests like this to Rhode Island residents without filing the right advance paperwork and paying at least a $150 fee. They presumably decided it wasn't worth the trouble. One can only imagine how much more legal and financial hassle it might be to offer it to people in other countries, probably involving hiring a local lawyer or at least legal consultant for each country; not even counting the possible tax and corporate regulation issues.
Thanks, Miuramir! I was just doing the searches in our state's legislation and statutes, and you saved me going through a long list of statutes. Greatly appreciated!
Guaranteed, I'll be bringing this up with our local legislature and representative this month. This is absolutely ridiculous on Rhode Island's part. I'm sure it has a lot to do with many of the illegal gambling and contests that used to run out of here, but, again, this is too extreme and contrived a measure.
Kudos, and thanks again Miuramir!
Good luck to all you non-EU, non-Australian, non-New Zealand, non-Asian, non-African, non-Quebecian (sp?), non-Guamanian, non-military post staying, non-Puerto Rican, non-commonwealth and non-Rhode Islander contestants (and anyone else I may mave missed with a required 'non-' prefix for this contest)! -
Sigh. I know Rhode Island sucks already, but to throw irony (seeing as how the game's locale is in a version of Rhode Island) and bizzare contests/competition laws to make it suckier (sp?)...they can't even participate as a state in simple nationwide contests without screwing things up...

Quote:I would've thought we'd ceded to Portugal with the large Portugese community here...Rhode Island, in an effort to avoid several years' worth of statewide deficits and general indebtedness, legally ceded from the United States on 8 Sept 2009, and is now a protectorate of Spain.
On the upside, Rhoders have suddenly developed a love for good Spanish rioja wine. Sangria exports from RI to the US have increased 400%.
...time to brush up on my Portugese and Spanish I guess... -
Why is Rhode Island excluded from this contest? The only reasoning I can figure is that we have the highest unemployment rate in the nation, and you're trying to make us look for jobs instead of submitting good AE arcs...
We must be too small of a state to matter. -
Captain Battleship will be there smashing Ritki and Zombies beside his fellow tankers and hopefully earning some yummy merits and loot! I'd have to be dead to miss this one!

Count me among the lucky.
A few weeks after I got the Good vs Evil edition, both my sons got interested in the game, and thus each got their own account. At this time, the wife was happy playing "Myst" on her computer, and the thought of her playing any MMO was 'out of the question' according to her.
After having dinner table discussions on builds, missions, canon, character stories and so forth between my boys and me, the wife finally broke down 5 months after I got the game and thought she'd give it a go, of course, emphasizing that she'd proabably only enjoy making characters in the character creator. At this point, all was looking good for getting the wife to play CoH with the rest of us.
Withing weeks, she was addicted. With over 3 dozen heroes and villains, she commenced a scorched earth campaign of playing that left my sons and me in her dust! By the time I got my first 50, she already had 3. I'd say it would've been embarassing, but I actually was happy to be spending time teaming with her and enjoying the game on the family level. If I'd travelled less for work, I probably would've kept up better.
As it was stated earlier by others, the house doesn't get cleaned up as often as it did, we do more "you're on your own" meals than before, but as such, we've all chipped in on the house work and meals now equally.
She's enjoyed the game for years now, and although she's currently taking a break to learn the wonders of WoW, she has already stated that once some of the bugs are worked out in Issue 16, she'll be back before the Halloween event starts.
I even made an action figure of her favorite/main hero she created, callled Popoki, and she still has it on her desk next to her computer in a plastic case.
Once again, I 'm a lucky man.
Now I need to get back online...I still have a lot of 50s to catch up to her with (she's up to 7 now...)... -
Greetings, villains!
If you are looking for a casual, yet active band of villains, with an Arachnos theme, look no further! Arachnos is hiring!
We have a 4-group band of VGs with an even larger coalition tied to each VG. Here are links to our websites for these VGs:
Knights of Arachnos
Legion of Arachnos
Champions of Arachnos
Mystics of Arachnos
The Knights of Arachnos is an active, large-sized group of tech/natural players that enjoy lots of teaming, events, Strike Forces and Mothership Raids. The VG is over 2 years old and has a great band of veteran players!
The Legion of Arachnos is a medium-sized group which deals with a more mutant/science based band members that are usually alts on this server. Although many alts reside here, it acts as a casual group that has full access to a large base, great coalition contacts, and participates in coaltion events.
The Champions of Arachnos is a very active and large VG which boasts to have the most prestige on Freedom under the "Arachnos" search name in the base searches!! All origin themes are welcome here. The complete base is extensively large and a great place to do events, RP and a perfect place to get what you need for that next mssion or Strike Force! Base has everything. We celebrate our 1st Anniversary in September '09, and have made great strides as a VG!
The Mystics of Arachnos is a smaller, newer Natural/Magic orgin based group with an Arachnos theme. Although the base is small, it has the basic essentials for any VG member, and of course access to all our Arachnos coaltion/VG members. The base has a magical-themed feel to it.
For all these VGs, we hold MANY grouped events and activities, to include Strike Force Saturdays, Badge Hunt Sundays, several annual events, anniversaries and costume contests to include our Arachnos Winter Bash Event, Halloween Hunt'n Party Event, Arachnos Summer Sizzler Event, and our own "Destroy Spring!" Event.
We pride ourselves in helping out newer players or those that are not familiar with the 'villains' side of the game.
There is no mandatory requirement for costumes, archetypes, or names in any of these VGs. All we do ask is to play in SG Mode up to and including level 25. That's it!
If you are interested, or would like some more information about any one of these VGs, contact me via my global @Major Deej. I'm normally online after 6pm Eastern time, and on most all of the weekend.
Our websites are part of a megagroup, the 'Major Deej Universe' (see sig below), and contain webpages for news, event calendar, and even our own forums!
I truly hope your search is over in finding one of these four VGs as a new home for your villainous Freedom character! -
GALACTIC EXPATRIOTS
Theme: Aliens, humans, mutants, et al, that have been ostracized/expelled by their looks/social status/demogoguery (sp?) from a organization/country/region/city/planet and are looking forward to a bit of vengeance to take back what they deem is theirs! (In other words, we take anyone!)
Website: http://www.freewebs.com/galexp
Leader: Master Darkstar (global: @Major Deej)
Send a tell to me in the evenings/weekend to get an invite sent, or to ask questions about the VG (Most of us are East coast US).
We Are: A small, casual group of villains on Victory that have been around for a couple years that gets together on evenings and weekends to conduct teaming, Strike Forces, and maybe even a couple of structured AE mishes (that actually have a plot!).
Requirements: All we ask is to be in SG Mode up to Level 25; that's it! No mandatory hours/week play style, no mandated SG costumes, just help us get a little prestige to help you get promotions (see VG website>ranks) and to help our base expand!
Motto: All your worlds belong to us!
