Quote:This is my current favorite toon, level 28 now, he's great fun! Now that I have Stun+Screech i'm ready to turn up the difficulty and stun bosses into next weekAlright. Thanks all. I was feeling a little guilty about making a great sonic/em solo blaster and how he wouldn't be as effective on teams, but maybe he'll be just fine. Thanks.
I really love Sonic Attack... i have a 50 Dark/Sonic defender and had a 34 Sonic/Fire (talk about no ability to solo bosses!), plus a couple other fledgling Sonic/* blasters. Fun stuff, and the blasts colorize nicely -
Quote:Siren's Song is control-ish, not enough damage to count as an AoE, but a very nice Sleep. What a good example of using the tools available!
...
I would probably put Sonic in a ST category too, even though it was mentioned that it has the average number of AoEs. The problem with it is Shockwave's knockback is huge (see: arguments about Energy Blast for AoEs) and Siren's Song and Screech both do really low damage for the sake of Sleep/Disorient. So anyway, I would shove it into the first set and make it a trio with a lil asterisk. It has a significant debuff and some good mez for mitigation. (Howl, the one I didn't mention, is comprable to Frost Breath IIRC)
Sonic could certainly be played AoE style considering the -res, too, I would say it swings both ways.
Screech is a single target stun.
In any case, Howl by itself makes a Sonic/ worth having on your team. It's quick to fire, has quick recharge, and (IMO) should be slotted for range and recharge so it hits everything in the building and stacks -res.
Add in the ability to -seriously- stack -res on a boss/eb/av with single target blasts, and you've got a very valuable component of any team. -

Quote:My complaint is that there is too much good with the bad, and too much bad with the good. This is just a slap in the face to everyone who has played for 62 months or less.Once again, I declare the vet rewards working as intended. Some people complain about them being too much and they should be available to everyone. Some people complain that they're lame and should be bigger. Since we're getting complaining on both ends, the reality's probably in the middle.

I don't particularly agree with much of "where you are coming from". I have a Dark/Sonic defender whose Sonic attacks would be sorely missed on a team. She debuffs the targets with both primary and secondary and very much -should- be doing so with both. If you build her without any intention of getting her hands dirty you've missed a significant part of her power and her fun.
-
I'm recently back after a year and have cast my eye toward my low level PB a few times but not logged in with her yet. Her concept is human form only; i'd love to see your build.

Quote:Yeah I actually did that (took Thunder Strike earlier) last night as I leveled this guy up; he needed another attack.Hmmm. I'd switch Thunder Strike and Swift to get an extra strong attack earlier. Weave isn't very useful; you have no little other defense to stack it with and it's weak on its own.
So does anyone else think the Fighting pool is without merit? I'm not married to it at all, just thought I'd seen others use it with /Dark. I have never been a huge fan of that pool so I'm not sad to drop it... anyone want to try to talk me into keeping it?
Thanks for the feedback. -
Hey all,
I have been out of the game quite a while and have been trying to put together a scrapper i've never played before. I do have a Broadsword/Dark at 44 so I know /Dark fairly well, but Electric/ is new to me.
Can i get some feedback on general power selection? Here's what I'm considering:
Primary Power Set: Electrical Melee
Secondary Power Set: Dark Armor
Power Pool: Flight
Power Pool: Fitness
Power Pool: Fighting
Hero Profile:
------------
Level 1: Havoc Punch
Level 1: Dark Embrace
Level 2: Jacobs Ladder
Level 4: Murky Cloud
Level 6: Air Superiority
Level 8: Swift
Level 10: Obsidian Shield
Level 12: Build Up
Level 14: Health
Level 16: Dark Regeneration
Level 18: Thunder Strike
Level 20: Stamina
Level 22: Boxing
Level 24: Cloak of Darkness
Level 26: Fly (yeah this is late but i'll use temp travel powers early)
Level 28: Tough
Level 30: Weave
Level 32: Lightning Rod
Level 35: Oppressive Gloom (should work well with the Disorient effects of several other powers?)
Level 38: Soul Transfer
Slotting -- I'm not rich and don't have the patience for the market so I'm likely to not have very good IO sets to slot. If you can recommend useful but not bank-breaking sets, please do.
Goal -- I took Tough and Weave in hopes of ramping up my defenses. Good idea? Bad idea considering I won't have the cash for high end IO sets?
Goal -- I was hoping for some nice complementary Disorients between OG and my attacks. Good idea or off base?
Thanks for your freedback! -
Skip them all and use temp travel powers (raptor pack and zero-G) until you decide... that's what i've done with my latest blaster (level 22) because I haven't decided on travel power.

Quote:Does it actually close to melee range now when you auto-follow a new target? This has been a huge peeve of mine since I started playing this game. I've been out for a year, just wondering if it works consistently now. See my sigif you're blapping.. you might be annoyed by hover. It isn't convenient for moving from melee to melee. It's doable, but if you're used to playing a melee class that switches targets quickly.. you're probably not going to like it. It's good enough to get around maps and hover blast... but when moving around within a spawn to melee it lags behind hopping/sprinting around.
-
Ah yeah forgot about Siren's ... that's about worth it right there even without Aim/Buildup's toHit bonus.
-
So it doesn't affect -Res and it doesn't affect KB? Looks like my Sonic/Energy and my Energy/Energy don't need it much... i mean the Stun bonus is nice, but they're already slotted to stack, don't really need the stun duration extended with Power Boost at the expense of a power pick. *ponders*

Quote:I love the ranged game, so I like all of these powers on my 50 energy/energy.Power Bolt - too weak for my tastes, however, when the time is right I will respec into it
Energy Torrent - annoying knockback
Power Push - I have Power Thrust, and although Power Push is superior, I don't feel the need for both since I dropped other more important powers
Explosive Blast - I really dislike this power...there is very little Explosive about it.
Power Bolt isn't weak... sure, shot for shot it is lower damage, but not over the duration of a fight. Plus, it is a defiance builder and usable when you are mez'd. Looks cool too
Quote:Secondary:
I took everything but Boost range....Here's why:
Quote:Energy Punch
Quote:Boost range - My blaster has no use for this because he fights at close range...
Definitely not saying your build is bad, just contrasting it with my very successful ranged build. I really enjoy the power boosted/range boosted triple-shot of Static Discharge+Energy Torrent+Explosive Blast and wouldn't give it up for the world. -
If the iMac didn't have that horribly reflective plate of glass over the LCD I'd buy one to replace my G5 tower and my PC now that my two MMOGs are mac... EVE and CoH!
Ah well, maybe apple will wise up and offer some options for those of us not wanting a mirror for a monitor. -
Wow, awesome post. I hate IOs and the added complication already

good idea but here's where you earn the thumbs down. i have a stalker and have a very tight build already. i can't get some of the powers i want (hasten or epic pool powers) much less these powers. the only way i would be able to get those is to sacrifice my fitness set (no) or my epic set (no).
[/ QUOTE ]
You say no to the idea because you have a character that would not choose to take them for a tight-build reason? Uhh, okay. My Defender simply cannot squeeze Boxing and Tough into her build-- perhaps these powers would be better removed from the game
On the subject, I think this is a very interesting idea. I'd love to see more things like this integrate into the game. Personally, I think the Invention system should have been done through a power pool.

I'm with Mann on this one. I really like the idea but I don't see more than a couple of powers in total that I'd sacrifice power picks for on any of my builds. If you make these powers inherents that you get at levels 5, 10, 20, and 40 and have them not take up power picks I'll /sign. -
Yeah because old threads are deleted at the 24 hour mark, good thing you got that bump in just under the wire!!

Is there really a need for the "+" at the beginning? I never use that and have a lot of working binds similar to what you guys are doing.

Could we get a fix so that when you press the follow target key while hovering you don't stop short of melee range? Follow target is a critical part of the melee arsenal, and with hover looking more and more viable in close range combat, fixing this would ba a major QoL improvment.
...along with follow not sometimes droping to a crawl -again outside of melee range- when the trget happens to be moving slowly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed! My sig has been waving the "fix hover" flag for some time now
Overall I like all of the travel powers well enough but Hover needs that fix and also I think Teleport needs fixing in two ways:
Reduce endurance cost by 25%
Allow teleport to any surface. Vertical and hoverhanging surfaces usually get the red bullseye of doom and that makes tp within missions very difficult to use. If it is a matter of imbeding people's heads in ceilings, just change the tp distance for those questionable surfaces so you come up a couple yards short of the actual target. -

I really really hope that the use of the word "workaround" here means this will be fixed soon. We with craptastic video cards really appreciate being able to run the GUI at high res and the 3D slider somewhat lower.
Thanks! -
I feel your pain Thumps but gotta point out ways to use knockback for those Energy/Energy blasters out there feeling like they're a bane to tankers...
You, masters of KB, go pick out an Lt or a Boss and just lay into him with every knockback power you have as fast as you can. You can easily take these single high value targets out of the fight with concentrated knockback and just kick their [censored] all over the map, hardly letting them get to their feet. Of course you want to go to the far side of that critter and KB him back toward safer ground. You might also want to tell your team mates that this is your M.O.
This is also a good way to help protect your rear echelon from critters that have escaped the tank's aggro control (if you even have a tank on the team). Energy Thrust / Power Push / Power Thrust them away from your less offensive team mates and relentlessly drive them into walls and down hallways and out of range. Smaller teams, those lacking tanks or controllers, and teams having trouble keeping aggro in the right places will benefit from aggressive knockback isolation of highly threatening targets. -
[ QUOTE ]
have no idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
As previously state, all you have to do is target a team member and fire off your offensive powers and they'll hit whatever your team mate has targeted. You don't need to worry about any sort of assist power/command. -

If you made that up yourself that was [censored] HILARIOUS.
However, /Fire is good stuff. All I'd like to see done is the removal of burn in exchange for Fiery Embrace.

Thanks Abysmalyxia, I think. Thought it was a bit subtle and nobody would get the joke.
