Quote:Hey, a tvtropes link, just a quick read before getting breakfast...
*Three hours later
I hate you Sam!Quote:All notoriously bad modern movies. Every single one. Few people saw Gigli, Battlefield Earth, Catwoman or any of Uwe Boll's movies (and most professional movie reviewers had to), but everybody makes fun of them. -
Quote:It depends on what playing at the edge means. If the profit over time on trying to work both markets is same or lower as the profit you could make by working one market in the same time then I guess no one would bother. We still don`t know how long the transition will take, how many arcs and what sort of arcs will that mean.BaB just said above you that while you are in the grey areas, you can still only access the market for your native side. Once you fully swap, you use the one for the other side. At no point does anyone have access to both. The real devil is in how well you can transport things bought from one side when you're just a hair away from swapping completely to the other. Those people who play at the edges of grey may become the true masters of the markets.
Switching means morality. While being grey you will probably have drops from your native side.
Going rogue bring in a transition process with the adequate details for a proper switch. Badge and accolade changes and renaming since most of them have a similar one on the other side.
In the end it will be Evil and Good. In the process of changing sides you have full access to your native side as well to the opposite side, and you will only be alowed to trade at your native side.
Quote:Also I can't see how the markets can't merge if you can have access to both the BM and WW as a Praetorian. Hello arbitrage.
So my best guess at the new Praetorian stuff is that :
1. You spend the first 20 levels as a Praetorian in Praetoria.
2. Your powers will have the same slotting system for enhancing
3. New enhancement types different from what we have already.
4. Level 50`s might gain new slots for specific praetorian enhancements or have access to other things to bring more power in already existing powers. -
Quote:All I said is that the spiffy new kewl and brand new thingies Going Rogue will mostly be about are over rated, at least from my point of view. That if the video that I quoted in my first post is showing the best Going Rogue has to offer (Ultra graphics, Praetoria and 2 new powersets).mage, you are just being unreasonable here. we have no idea if anything is going on with pvp, we dont know what costume bits are coming(outside of the clockwork stuff) they talked about a segment of the features coming, not all of them, we got a window of stuff coming apparently half a year off. I ask again, do you really think this is it? there will be more things, these are the big bullet points that marketing has cleared, that is all. be a little more patient before saying how disappointing it is.
I don`t think I`m being unreasonable saying that I`m not impress based on what I have seen. I did try to explain why and lots of people don`t agree. Thats ok, doesn`t matter that much. To me it matters that GR is a payed expansion and I can make a very big list with already existing stuff that could have been improved/fixed. If I would have heard Positron saying that there will be base raids , new customization improvements and other stuff I already mentioned I would have said Great, just what I wanted. Giving me something I`ll never use like super graphics just makes me say "meh".
If it makes any of you feel any better, I am sorry for not following the herd spirit on this one. But i`m optimistic. -
Quote:Where are these things announced ?I asked that they tab the contacts... check
I asked that we get more slots... check
I asked that we be able to set the team slider thing (I16)... check
I asked for a major graphical update... incoming check
I screamed about Brute pets sucking *fixed now* ... check -
I might bring some hate onto myself by saying this but sadly this is not how game developing works. There is no list in any of their offices with what players ask on the forums.
-
Not whining, just saying that what they presented so far as the upcoming expansion set for CoX for me is not that much and I have tried to explain why. Personal opinion, no one has to agree.
-
Quote:I agree with that. But they don`t add a lot. They add some feeling and thats about it.Should of told you enough. Better graphics adds to the game play experience. I think Paragon Studios gets things right when they can keep the minimum requirement the same and yet still makes the game good for high end graphics.
In the history of gaming there were a few games that ... made history. Games like Diablo (the whole series), Counter-Strike, Civilization, Starcraft, Warcraft brought milions of gamers all together in multiplayer games due to gameplay and defiantely NOT graphics.
I will say this again : THE GRAPHICS ARE GREAT! maybe not the best on the market BUT THEY ARE GREAT!
I am dissapointed. WHY ? Look at the game now and think about the improvements that it needs in various aspects. Look at The Power Suggestion Box , at Custom Weapon Request Thread and at Jay's Costume Request Thread . I expected to see something like : Going Rogue is coming next summer and we`ll make the game better by giving you a better pvp system, adding new travel powers, taking customization another step further by adding this and that (and theres a ton of things in those threads), new task force systems where you don`t have to spend 6 hours at level 12 wanting to smash your computer sometimes or where you don`t have to spend 30 minutes of continuous blasting a villain. And many more improvements that you have been asking for.
Instead we all knew before HeroCon that Positron said he was surprised at how much he was allowed by the marketing department to reveal about GR. And all I saw was Oh look we got a new and shiny zone. How much time can you walk around and look at your reflection ? Are we all narcissists ?
I will be impressed even more by the whole new graphic system after I hear what beta players have to say about the graphic lag and their system. Remember you need at least 30 frames per second and I am very curious about the systems that can handle that. Laptop wise you will probably need an Alienware laptop to play it.
Yes its not needed , the game is still playable without it. The DVD will probably cost a minimum of 30 USD. Up until now I will pay that money for what ? 2 powersets and a new zone ? THAT does not impress me. Even with the revamp of the first 20 levels.
Quote:Upcoming feature: You don't have to log in or out to switch characters.
The bottom line is that this is a payed expansion and if they make a huge fuss about it I expect to have huge things to pay for. Because even tough it looks great in terms of graphics I am not going to buy it just so I can spend another few hundred dollars upgrading to a better laptop, considering that my monthly fee goes towards NCSoft for me playing and not flying around the city every day when I log on. -
Just a quick note to the ones bad repping me.
All I`m saying is that the big fuss aboud graphics and how I am going to impress my friends (how they say in the vid : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SItM3OLqb5w) by showing the how kool this game looks is not impressing me. A personal opinion. I acknowledge that it is a big graphic upgrade to the game.
On a side note I am waiting for their recommended requirements for those graphics and then will wait for what people in beta will have to say about their systems handling those graphics while doing a rwz raid or hami raid, or while in a team of 8 with mobs and their shadows running around near water and their team mates with their dynamic shadows.
Again it looks amazing but from experience I know that those nifty things cost A LOT of $ to have them at reasonable fps.
Definately not whining, but honestly I expected to see pretoria inc. but also some costume parts (other than that set), a new AT and some damn travel powers. Stuff to play with not stuff to look at. -
Yes. Not very disappointed but I`m definitely not impressed.
I`ll try to explain piece by piece why.
Quote:Graphical Update
Ultra-graphics mode: toggle for better graphics
Imperfections of glass
Realistic environmental +character reflections
Realistic shadows that change with time of day
Reflective Water
Water reflection distorts shadow
Costume is reflective
Minimum specs for the game won't change, and you can run Going Rogue without Ultra mode, but you can turn on Ultra mode with high-end video cards
Dynamic Shadows. THIS is what actually made me open this thread. Seeing the crowd going all WHOAAAAA.
First of all, dynamic shadows were first implemented in a game as a gameplay feature in 2004 (Thief: Deadly Shadows). In this game, I couldn`t care less about them. But they`re as old as CoX itself.
For me , all this graphic update is not something that I wanted or expected and definitely not a reason to buy/pre-order the game. I do admit it is a major graphic improvement for the game itself and I am also very curious how much a laptop will cost at the moment of release with the recommended specs (which are not released yes as far as I know)
Quote:Dual Pistols
For Blasters, Defenders, and Corruptors
Four types of bullets, selectable at character creation: Regular, Ice, Fire, Toxic (need confirmation on these)
Each type of ammo changes the secondary effect of the attacks
Has a PBAoE attack of some sort
Quote:Going Rogue System
Heroes become Vigilantes
Villains become Rogues
Vigilantes and Rogues have access to the Rogue Isles and Paragon City
Vigilantes can only access Wentworth's, and Rogues can only access the Black Market
Your morality is determined by Praetorian morality arcs
All Rogues and Vigilantes would eventually leave Praetoria and go into the Rogue Isles/Paragon (with access to both)
Also we have a revamp of the first 20 levels in terms of gameplay. And 50`s will become even more powerful. Stuff worth waiting for.
I expected more. Well maybe its the preliminary news and they weren`t allowed to say that many things. But I expected gameplay, innovations towards teaming, task forces, more goals for solo players, new mission types and other things to keep you playing through the content and make you forget what power leveling means.
I`m still expecting this before being fully disappointed and moving towards another game. Yes the first 20 levels being revamp is good (supposably, because we don`t know what that means exactly), but that leaves us with 50 more levels of the same TF's, mission maps and goals.
I know most of you don`t agree with my but this is just my humble opinion about Going Rogue and what I expected to hear about it. -
Its what happens when you eat all your vegetables. You grow up to be strong like that
-
-
The road to 50 can be a short or long one. Whats your preffered way to get there ? Would you rather powerlevel the first 20 levels , last 10. Are you a story arc person or a TF person ?
I always enjoyed a full team of 8. Yeah some maps can be repetitive but its the player interaction tha brings out the fun. Makes it seem like growing in levels is a bit faster and you get to enjoy more content succesfully on a short period of time. -
Quote:As your first post you're very lucky to have posted it here. This suggestion in the suggestion and ideas would have brought you much harsh replies.I'm not entirely sure if this is the best place to put this, and I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this before...but I decided to put this out anyways.
I came up with this crazy idea, and while it may be dreadfully bad, it may still have some merit. I'm sure many players here are familiar with the Blaster /Devices set and the Munitions Mastery pools...and I was thinking that, with powers pulled from the aforementioned set and pool, a Devices Control powerset could be made (with some tweaking and maybe a new power or two) for Controllers. On the Villain side, I'm thinking of using the Corruptor /Traps and the Mace Mastery pool to make a Traps Domination (again, with tweaking) for Dominators. -

But also if you look careful at the majority of posts in the AT and powers section you'll notice a few tipical users trying to give newbies a hand :
1. The Dext0r
he basically speaks Math. and ever post he writes has at least 5 times the recomented mathematics amount an adult can handle. Will always try to show the ALL numbers in the game matter and it all comes down to math.
2. The Pokemon
Gotta have'em all. And he did have them all ... twice.
He or she will always mention how many toons he had and played and most time the number of total levels they all had together. He'll always try to help by comparing what he liked and what he didnt like in some Ats with what you want to know.
3. The Impervious
Yes, every question has an answer in the task force he ran with friends or strangers last night. No matter what you ask or want to know he has encountered a few days back in one of his ITFs he ran.
4 Eggs vs Bacons
My own favorite that i always listen to. Basically he'll tell you that all the previous poster dont know what they're talking about and he'll give you the best advice. Play what you like and how you like because its how the game was intended to be. Math is just a mechanic and the number of posibilities in toon creation are there for the coosing not to be compared in abilities and inabilities. Everything is great
5 The boyfriend/husband
He has no ideea what hes talking about. His already under a blind spell and conforms to what his real life other half makes him do and say. He will always talk about his girlfriend's/wifes At and powers and how they are the best because she enjoys and has fun. He will only reffer to himself playing CoX only when mentioning that he duos with his wife/girlfriend.
And probably many more, but no matter who you are, what and how you ask you will have the answer you're looking for. -
We could do another thing also. Have all new players asking questions be redirected to ParaginWiki and tell them to RTFM. But players ask a newbie question cause they dont know how to specifically ask for something else but i guess they expect for an answer which is to be properly given after you ask the newbie player those questions.
Take the ''Which is the strongest archetype?'' question for example. All are strong in their own special way. Range strong,,buff strong, mellee strong. etc. So you want to know about the player to recomment the best at for him or her.
Did you ever call a technical support service ? You either press a lot of numbers untill you get to talk to someone or you answer a lot of questions untill you get the answer you're looking for. -
The one in the picture should come out and speak his own name ... loud ... in shame!

Quote:Be more specific with your post! What kind of replies are you looking for ? We need more information about your flame style ...When new people join this game and ask a general question about an AT or a build, and the replies are like this...... 1)"Be more specific", 2)"What are you looking for", 3)"We need more information about your play style"....
1) How specific to people expect a NEW player to be about an AT they know nothing about?
2) Do "experienced" players REALLY expect a NEW player to know if they need more recharge as opposed to more damage or accuracy or if they need more resist than def?
3) I doubt the NEW players even have a playstyle to say if they prefer to solo or team, mish or farm, rather play a tank or troller if they haven't played every AT available.
I seen a post by someone with 12 posts and just joined this month ask for a list of powers he should choose or skip for a Fire/Dark Corruptor. Now as exp. players, we know about which powers may be better picked than others. Instead of seeing this is a new player and giving some GENERAL info, he gets replies like the ones above. I mean, really?
That's all. Flame, reply, give your thoughts if ya wanna. -
Quote:So unlike other players you are and will be loyal to this game. Right?I've been playing Warhammer Online recently - my first 'free' month. I was looking forward to it as i love the background and lore.
My experience has been utterly dismaying in too many ways to list, but suffice to say, CoH does everything so well i believe I'm ruined for other MMOs. I wasn't considering stopping or even reducing my CoH time, 5 yrs on i still love it, but seeing what a disaster WAR is in conparison to what i want from an MMO, i fear i'll not find anything as good.
CoH is just fantastic, isn't it?

How much traffic does it do ( hope i expressed it right) per hour in MB ? I might have to play it for a while with a limited connection to 5 Gb/month. But i'm not sure if its Gb , could be GB tough. Thanks.

Quote:You will understand it after you will end a 5 year old relationship or marriage.I don't think I've ever started a thread in this section before, but I've noticed something happening with more and more frequency over the last few months, and it's bothering me.
Most of the people I've played with over the 5 years have moved on to other games. That's happens, I know. It's normal, it's expected. What I didn't expect though, was when many of those people suddenly started behaving like the time they spent here was 'lame', 'stupid', or 'a waste of time and money'.
Sigh. I guess this is a stupid thing to be upset over, but it makes me sad. Okay, they like the games they're playing now, I get it, but why does that invalidate all the good times we used to have? Why is playing CoX for five years suddenly something to regret and lament? -
Its impossible for me to find a logical explanation for an anonymous reputation system.

My very first toon was and still is an Energy/Energy blaster. Thought energy is tha ******* and will own everything. While its probably the least resisted damage type in the world of Paragon it doesnt feel as powerful as a Fire/Fire blaster. THATS what I should have chosen. One year later i roll up everything else other than a stupid fire/fire blaster. Must really focus on one.
