  1. The right forum section is Suggestion and Ideas, I think.
  2. So, last night I came up with an ideea, but upon further thought it would take years to be finalized they way it was intended so now I open this topic with an altered version of what I had in mind.
I will call them "The Books of Paragon", but their names are subject to change and i imagined them to look something like this :

Obviously with a custom made hardback cover and probably slightly bigger in the number of pages.
For this project we will need 3 users. One in Europe (myself), one in USA and one in Australia. We will be the one to gather the pages from everyone else, sent by mail.
This is what the pages should be and the rules for their acceptance :
    1. Each user is allowed 2 pages, in the A4 format.
    ( http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/iso-paper.html | http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk...=faqpaperssize )
    2. One page is for a villain and one page is for a hero. Your main ones.
    3. By page I mean a sheet of paper.
    4. One side of the page should have 1-5 pictures printed on 100% of the page , representing a graphic presentation of your character.
    5. Another side of the page should contain your character`s bio/description/backstory/presentation story.
5.a The title of it should be your character's name.
5.b Font and color are your choice
5.c. Text size should be 12.
    6. Pages should be sent by mail to each of the users collecting them and later will be add in alphabetical order in custom made hardback covers.
    7. Last, but not least they should be sent to NCSoft`s HQ where our dev team should add (if they wish to) their signature character's pages.
    8. Books should be done in time for the next HeroCon.

This is what I had in mind, but before we start some choices should be made, like :
    a) Book title
    b) Laminated or simple pages
    c) page format (a4 slightly differs from one continent to another).

It will take months until completion so everyone has a lot of time on their hands to make the best if they wish to join in. The covers should be ordered how many pages we have. Also, during this time we should choose a cover design. Also, keep in mind that before we finish, Going Rogue will have been long time released so your main characters may or may not switch sides, and some might decide to remain neutral (which we don't know yet 100% what that means beside being able to access both sides).

The initial ideea was something similar , like a custom made 2000 page blank book that would go from user to user and have everyone handwrite they`r characters bio and such, or other words about Paragon but that would take too much considering that we have a few thousand forum users.

The books are meant like a .. registrar I guess. And I thought it would be nice to have them presented at the next HeroCon or keep them in the Paragon archive We could also give them a more personal touch and sign the pages, and after that we could, dunno, auction it or something and give the money to charity.
But for the moment, lets see what you think.
  3. Of course, everything released in the game should be dev accepted. And there was plenty f things to learn from the months AE was mostly the only thing playied in the game
  4. How do you feel about users being able to develop mods for CoX?
By mods I dont mean actual game mods but maybe new maps, UI customizing, costume parts (altough not sure how possible this one is).
Could this be the next step in Architect Entertaining ?
  5. Most of my friends know i'm playing City of Heroes. and I haveinvited 3 of them to play. The reason they never subscribed is a simple one, they didn t like it. I told them that its a mmorpg where you make your own superhero and then go kick butt. So they did what i did initially, made their first toon a blaster. Nothing super about that, and then switched to other at's and agai n... nothing super about those.
Basically, you get to fly, super jump and be very fast, have your own look and get all sorts of powers, but when a new player joins and starts soloing through paragon... the obvipus comparison to iconic superheroes will take place. You'll faceplant and die more often than your favorite super hero basically. So its a game where you dont create a super hero, but a toon with powers that in time will grow stronger and more effective if you find a way to raise your needed influence and start working towards the super build.
As opposed to your classic rpg where you start as a simple human that has a destiny or a path and will grow to be the best at fighting, here you join a game hoping to play a super hero from the first seconds in the game. From what i've seen City of heroes adresses a more mature gamer that puts a price on a good back story and a well created world to play his super hero fantasies in.

Ya I said it. Because YOU do not like Facebook and Twitter, YOU automatically shut the idea down. Get your head out of your ***. Seriously people. Any way to get more subscribers to this game, is a good idea.

And YES they should be having links people can post to their pages. Offering 7 days or 14 days of FREE time. No CC required.

Word of mouth only went so far. Now it is time to try new and different ways to get people to play.

For the longest I thought it odd that the people @ my local BestBuys didn't even know what CoX is/was. Well Its because word of mouth didnt do it. It didnt ultimately spread the word - enough -.

They need new ways to get the word out. So, instead of knocking this idea... Its time to start posting CHEAP ways to advertise the game. And links on POPULAR personal webbys like Facebook and Twitter, could definately get the word out there to more people.

    *disclaimer*
Yes I know calling people ***** may not be the best thing to do. But, frankly I dont really care. This community chases people away with their snobbish attitudes.
What makes you think everyone out there would love playing a game with super heroes? Its been around for 6 years, my guess is that who really wanted to play a super herro mmorpg that takes place in paragon already subscribed.

    To my fellow humans,
We`ve seen their faces. I looked one in the eyes and saw what never existed, what many prayed to for a miracle and others cursed for what has come of our world. There is no God. There is only us , them and a war.
Upon this journey I will not wish for luck, nor will I wish to come back home ... But I shall wish that if God is no more, at least let there be a Hell for these creatures to go after I will smite each and everyone of them.
This is my oath to those I leave behind. They want our world ? They`d better be ready for a slice of inferno.
  8. Having left home to fight in Paragon and put my disruptive fire blasting ability to good use, my caring mom would make sure that shed had this letter in the time capsule for me to read later ...

    Dear Son:

Just a few lines to let you know that I'm still alive. I'm writing this letter slowly because I know that you cannot read fast. You won't know the house when you come home. . . we've moved.

About your father. . . He has a lovely new job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting the grass at the cemetery.

There was a washing machine in the new house when we moved in, but it wasn't working too good. Last week I put 14 shirts into it, pulled the chain, and I haven't seen the shirts since.

Your sister Mary had a baby this morning. I haven't found out whether it is a boy or girl, so I don't know whether you're an aunt or uncle.

Your Uncle Dick drowned last week in a vat of whiskey in a Dublin brewery. Some of his workmates dived in to save him, but he fought them off bravely. We cremated his body, and it took three days to put out the fire.

Your father didn't have much to drink at Christmas. I put a bottle of castor oil in his pint of beer. That kept him going till New Years day.

I went to the doctor on Thursday and your father came with me. The doctor put a small tube into my mouth and told me not to open it for ten minutes. Your father offered to buy it from him.

It only rained twice last week. First for 3 days, and then for 4 days. Monday it was so windy that one of our chickens laid the same egg four times.

We had a letter yesterday from the undertaker. He said if the last installment wasn't paid on your grandmother within 7 days; up she comes.

    Your Loving Mother,

    P. S. I was going to send you $10.00 but I had already sealed the envelope

My concern is that a lot of what he's discussing for Aion was at some either flagged or requested for City of Heroes originally - including:
    • Cross-platform MMO (Yun suggests NCsoft never considered it before Aion which doesn't ring true)
    • New underwater zone (plus swimming abilities)
    • Purchaseable home spaces (we called them "apartments" back in the day)
    • Visual enhancements
    • New weapons sets - Whips and Crossbows

I believe the last two items (excluding Crossbows) are covered in Going Rogue but what about the rest? Am I going crazy or didn't we request/discuss all these options for City of Heroes years ago? So why pretend that they're something new inspired by Aion? And why are these features going to Aion first before City of Heroes?

Sorry for all the questions - just kinda bummed to see our best "proposed" content going to another NCsoft project rather than this one.
First of all lets make some things clear. No matter what mmorpg title we talk about and no matter who works on that title and how passionate are the team behind it about the universe they are creating, at the end of the day it is a business. simple as that. it has money invested in for profit. What ncsoft does right now is focusing on more that one mmorg and covering multiple genres and universes in those games. no one can make a mmorpg to compete with wow, but you can add more players in more games to have as many subscribers.
If you believe that underwater, space, apartments, water powersets and everything else suggested is imposible then you are wrong. they are possible but also they are stupid or not bringing improvements to the game itself or the cost and time for it would prove to be inneficient.
Ncsoft knows how to spend their money and what to improve, update and make better. if they loose 1000 cox subscribers but win 3000 on aion its still profit for them. and sibscribers can be brought back with new issues.
I might be wrong but a mmorpg has always been seen from different perspectives , the owner and the player.
If they would have released cox this year considering that it would have recently been under development i could bet that more than half of the costume pieces we have (not the boosters) wouldnt have even been considered to be part of the costume creator.
New maps, new free costume pieces, new free stuff... wont bring subscribers but would cost to implement, time and money. they can keep our subscriptions active with less costs. simple as that. why spend more when you can spend less for the same profit. recession lol.
But water would be plain stupid. highly demanding for your hardware. and you'd have to move slower in water.
  10. I always try to keep my names short. Something related to the archetype's primary and/or secondary powersets. I like to choose names that I feel can be called or said as a superhero name. (its a bird... its a plane ... no its .... <lolname>)
Recently I started making up names, deriving them from the english name that I wanted but was taken and adding some latin, greek, japanese or other lingvistic influences.
Also , my broadsword scrapper is name : iSlash, my fire blasters are : iBurn and iFire.
I take between 1 and 30 minutes to choose my characters names. But for me the name check function on the character creator never works

Think about the endless posibilities when it comes to capes and wings. Maybe costumes need "money" and "resources" to be developed and implemented in a game. But I do think we could get more capes and more wing designs. At least more capes.

Boosters GVE, Wedding, 'Mac Pac' Super boosters 1 through 4 (8 at $15)

30 month accounts x2 (Buddy code so no upfront - 7 boosters each is missing the MA pack until my next payday)

    Total household $2861

(For comparison my monthly cable bill is $132 and change. Cable TV and internet over the same period of 5 years has been about $8000 including some PPV events)

    <edit>
I dont view this expenditure as an 'investment' though, its a payment for an entertainment service.
Don`t want to spoil anyone`s forum fun, but when you look at these numbers you`d think they would put some free costume pieces in the game to satisfy a wider variety of tastes.
    I only spent a lil` bit over 100
Anyway ... why would someone pay 132$ for their cable ?

Just to have things clear in my head, from now and up until probably april or may 2010 we won't get any sort of content/features added ?

  18. I have a character in a big supergroup and have a sg of my own with less than 10 players. As far as i know there is a Computer or Supercomputer item available for supergroups. Considering that a feature that allows emailing items and influence is comping here is my idea :
An ''artificial inteligence'' software feature for the supergroups computer. It could function like a contact or another form of user interface interaction window.
    What this would allow :
    1. GEtting a contacts phone number quickly. I am aware the number is givenafter series of mission but sometimes running back and forth can become a bit frustrating. Initial contact is still required with the contact after that having the posibility to get the mission through this feature.
    2. wireless/mobile or sattelite connection through your base computer to wentworths/blackmarket. only for selling salvage/recipes/enhancements. allowing to sell only without visiting any market. could or could not allow viewing price history. For me at least there's been many cases where i could sell a lot of cheaper recipes or salvage but instead chose to clear my inventory than put out with the horrible lag.
    3. could be named by the sg leader so it would allow for a theme related to the sg.
And maybe more features that i cant think of right now.

Some users on this forums need to know and probably understand that every user of this forum and every player of the game is different from eachother and likes the game in a diffferent way. Some are very fond of this mmo some play it casual and some stopped playing at all. Its one of the many that we bought to play for particular and individual reasons. Further more regarding upcoming products of any sort , expectations are built withing the consumer based n the products marketing. SOme will be dissapointed and some wont.
The only thing i like and enjoy about CoH is the character customization. I like playing it with my friends still. But also keep in mind this game is based on a monthly subscription that adds up every few months to the full price of a stand alone game or another mmo. I dont want to seem cheap about it but its true. I'm not expecting massive content aditions every few months to equivalate (not spelled right i think) another game but i do have my own expectations upon what i want to spend my money on. I do understand the massive workforce and focus behind going rogue and that it probably be a big hit but lets face it, there are so many topics about the same old boring mission maps, and other things that were requested over and over. I dont find it fair to have an issue lie i15 being released with that costume and pattern and have to pay for a booster pack for some better looking pieces. I find it fair to constantly update your game's heart and core considering you have anime fans, fantasy fans etc. I would take an issue with costumes varying multiple themes any time over the 15th issue. Same thing with weapons. Or mission maps. Anyway, tons of thing i expected and still expect. But thats just me and what i like. I also like blasters but they feel more like a hero wannabe faceplanting so often. I still hope to ge able to get some defense without trading offense and somewhat in the early levels.

I've been in lots of heated discussions on the forums before, usually with people ganging up on me when I disagree with something the devs do or express dissatisfaction over something in the game. Such behavior is neither mature nor constructive, but it happens. Look at the guy who made this thread, and how much negative rep he got as a result. And it's not like he was trolling, or being inappropriate or rude. He just expressed his disappointment, and he was bombarded with negativity, name-calling and just immature, destructive responses in general.
Lesson learned, rep disabled. useless feature imho.

Besides the user created content in the mission architect, is there a topic on the forums i could read with users suggestion and ideas that have been implemented in the game or what part of cox's development was affected by user criticism or massive request(besides bugged and gamebreaking exploits).
Just curious, and i am aware of the Suggestion and ideas forum section, just that i want to know/read about the players participation in this game's development.
