Yeah, but I kept getting ambushed by packs of zombies in Cap Au Diablo. Twelve trips to the hosp because of them.
-
Which hole is that? Psi, or toxic? They will get dang good resistances to fire (except the cold demonling so far) or cold (only the cold demonling). Then the shields I think can pretty much cap their fire resistances.
-
On the demon/thermal I rolled, I'm realizing how much a pain vahzilok are gonna be. Zero resistances to toxic damage with that combo... period.
-
Yeah, but they don't attack an enemy without orders if it's the ONLY one in the fight, and got mezzed. Especially if it's been 10 seconds since that enemy hit anything.

Quote:Or better yet, remove the healing nictus from the fight all together by killing it. I could be wrong, but I think that's a tactic Tokyo believes to be useless. It's also practical to move the healing nictus out of healing range if you're having problems. That way, the MM can use his pets and you'll be able to bring down Rom.
Since the heal seems to be an ally affecting version of dark regen, it would stand to reason that ANYONE in melee range would be a problem until the healing nictus is down. Not just pets. But those other players too.
Better avoid controllers too. They tend to have pets out, and fire controllers have pets that prefer melee. Can't have anyone with dark miasma either. They might be bringing out Fluffy in range so he can debuff and heal the melee guys. Can't have that because it's another target to fuel nictus healing.
Oh wait, if you kill that nictus it's not healing. -
However I noticed that if the enemy keeps missing for about 10 seconds without connecting (or is held that long) henchmen in defensive stance wont attack it without being ordered. It's like they stop recieving "threat" notification because the enemy isn't (effectively) fighting back.

Ok, skippable powers... Poison Trap, Antidote (debatable but my opinion), and the rez. You do want the hold. It is very useful. The rez can be useful too, but only if teaming.
-
Depends on the set I suppose. Thug/TA seems fairly fast. Then again, thug/anything would.

Quote:If your pet is in defensive stance, and the enemy in question either hasn't hit anything in a while or hasn't attacked period... they wont deem that enemy a 'threat'. When testing a thug/ff mastermind I frequently found my thugs would stop attacking mid fight if not ordered while in bodyguard mode. After a while of not being hit, they would lose the aggro flag I guess. Are pets not suppose attack held/mez targets? I had my Bruiser set to attack a certain minion (a communications officer) while the rest of my pets attacked other surrounding members. However, when I held the communications officer, my Bruiser returned to me attacking as if I had placed it back into follow mode thus causing it not to attack the officer...is this normal or is it a bug? If it's not a bug is there a way to fix it without having to remind my pets to attack a held/mezed target?

Quote:When you tell the mastermind that they can't use their entire source of damage, that is rude. It also precludes some very nice debuffs. You forget, not every pet is designed to stay at range. And even with good mastermind controls, it is pretty much impossible to prevent pets from at least half the primaries from meleeing. Nor would you want to.I stopped reading at this.
MM pets still fuel romulus's healing nictus and regeneration. It is not rude to ask a MM to keep their pets at a range distance if you know your PUG team is having trouble pushing past Rom's regen and healing; it's practical.
Now I know many peoples response to this would be 'well then don't play on a pug team." My answer to this is; "shutup."
If your so worried about pets fueling Romulus's healing, aren't you equally worried that the scrappers and other melee ATs are fueling it? Or, you could do what my ITF team did. You could take out the nictus that are healing Romulus first, and prevent it from happening.
Primaries which either can't easily, or shouldn't be kept at range:
Ninja
Necro
Demons
Thugs (arsonist keeps brawling no matter what, and bruiser is a melee pet to begin with)
So your telling me that you'd never bring a mastermind along because your afraid of a preventable situation. If the nictus AVs keep healing Romulus using pets or team mates, kill the nictus AVs.
Is that so hard? Or do you think the Statesman TF is impossible without a perfect team lineup because you never thought to remove the towers buffing Recluse? It's still hard, but not impossible if you do things right. -
Quote:I know, and am working on it now. Downloading the install file for Avira Antivir personal edition, and Spybot Search & Destroy to take over to him. Now, I am a little phobic about viruses and spyware. My first computer was killed by them. That just means I do daily updates and scans though. If he doesn't want to surf, fine. But he STILL needs to update drivers, patches and run antivirus. Cuz not all viruses come from the web. Some will find you. Others move through email. (Unless he absolutely refuses to use that as well.) And even legit websites and such can be hacked. He really needs to get over this phobia or at least take some sensible actions and precautions. Or he needs to just stop using a computer.

Trust me, it lasts more then long enough. You'll mainly be using it for AV/EB fights. And if the fight lasted longer then 45 seconds, chances are your fighting Romulus or something. The fact I've seen it's hold go off on Elite Bosses and Archvillains through the purple triangles makes it even better.

Quote:While most of your reasons can be understandable, this one struck me as rude. Even with using such things as go-to, spamming pet controls, and having near perfect pet control... you will still have that random tier 1 ranged pet which insists on running up and punching the enemy. As such it is hard, nay nearly impossible to completely prevent pets from going into melee.I love MMs but here are a few reasons why I tend to avoid MMs on my team:
6) AVs that use pets to buff. Some AVs such as romulus on the last ITf mission use pets to heal and buff. This becomes increasingly irritating after having to tell a MM to please either move their pets into range or dismiss them and the MM ignores you or starts to fight with you.
And some primaries, you WANT the pets in melee. That's where they do the most damage. But then, your telling anyone who's pets melee to dismiss them. Which means your telling the mastermind they may as well have not come alone. Your removing half what they do.
And then there's sets like /poison. It has a really nasty debuff in Noxious Gas. And the debuff is centered on a pet, who must be sent into melee. But of course, you don't want them sending pets into melee.
By the same token, you should insist everyone on the team stays at range. Even the brutes, stalkers, scrappers, and tanks. For that matter, better avoid having a kin along. They will be right there in melee range too. And anyone smart will be right next to the kin. Can't have a dominator either. They have melee attacks. What about the newest mastermind primary? Yup, the pets love melee. And their good at it from what I've seen. The mastermind will probably be right up there too using their whip attacks.
But then, melee is to be avoided at all costs isn't it? Wait a minute. I just was on a ITF yesterday. Our entire team consisted of melee, a single controller, and a single corrupter. And yet, we not only won the fight. We steamrolled it. The only party wipe was due to several ambushes during the second time we dropped Romulus. And yes, we had pets being used too. The team leader was afraid the pets would be used against us. And yet, they were a help. Heck, I kept summoning a pet every minute or two.
but all that melee should have made Romulus impossible, or at least annoying right? Not really. It's all in your timing. I almost took my thug/ta on the TF. And you know what? The team leader at the end said he almost wished I'd brought that instead of my crab. -
I'm working on a demon/thermal, although I may make a demon/ff when it goes live instead. Thermal will be a tight build since I do want all the attacks.

I completely agree. And find it funny he keeps looking towards the next mmo. Right now he's eager for DC Universe Online, which looks like it too would be hard on the 1.0 drivers.
-
Ok, just spoke with him. And... he disabled updates after getting Service Pack 2 this time. He'd done a complete clean reinstall of Windows Vista to try fixing the problem.
He claims he got an update from Windows Update which claimed it was from microsoft, but wasn't and was actually a virus. And that this mystery update messed up his computer. While it's true getting optional updates your system doesn't have the capability to use (or getting the Windows driver for a store bought graphics card) can mess up the computer... How does he think someone uploaded a virus to Microsoft's windows update servers without MS noticing and removing it?
I think he doesn't realize an MMO having to download updates (or download the client for free mmos) is the same thing as downloading windows updates of graphics card updates. Something to do with his fear of browsing the internet and picking up random viruses. I did finally convince him to update the drivers. Drivers which he'd never updated.
Only reason he has service pack 2 (and nothing after that) is because he accidentally left automatic updates on after the clean install. He doesn't even get the updates for Windows Defender. Sure it stinks on ice, but it's still an added layer of protection. -
I've found it's worked since forever. Of course, I usually anymore keep it set to "earn xp" anyway. Still nice for when running low on funds and needing to get enhancements.
-
Thanks for the advice. I'll let him know when I see him saterday. But yeah, it boggles my mind that he's never done that too. Actually, he has no anti-virus or anti-spyware. He's phobic of downloading Avira Antivir (a really really good one I use) or spybot. And refuses to buy one. Not sure if he's updated windows either. He must have, since that's enabled by default.

Quote:I know, I know... screenshots or it doesn't happen. So...Wow. This is the first time I have seen a forum user actually believe this myth in a very long time, so I don't have screenshots on hand at the moment. I suppose if they fixed it now, it really wouldn't matter.
I will test the new setup to see if it's fixed.
also, a screenie of exemped inf gain:
Note how much was given for the initiate of pain. Now look how much an initiate of pain gives when not exemped:
So, how is this a myth? What you just saw in these screen shots use to be what always happened. Now it's an option you toggle, that defaults at earning xp while exemped. -
I've got a friend who plays, but keeps getting game crashes every 3 hours. I've directed him here multiple times, but he seems to have a phobia of actually using the interenet. No, I can't suply a dxlog or anything. He could, but he's afraid to actually do anything but turn on the computer and play an MMO. Anyway, here is what I know of his problem;
He has a nevidea gforce 9600 or so I think, but never updated his drivers. You know, phobia of using the internet (especially if you have to download anything). He's using vista as well if that matters. After three hours of game play he says he gets graphics glitches, then the game freezes. A minute or so later and his game client shuts down.
His room mate says that one time when it happened there was an error message saying something about incompatable graphics card, but again he's using a nevidia card. I'd suggested he try turning down the graphics from 'quality', but weather or not that helps is unknown. He played for five minutes on 'recommended' graphics settings, and bumped everything to max again. He says the game looks too ugly otherwise.
Any ideas on what could be the problem? He's already tried a clean install. He says it may be the modem, but this only happens with CoH. Not the dozens of other (free) MMOs he plays.
And on a side note, what ATI card would be recommended to upgrade to if I wanted to take advantage of the new Ultra mode? I've currently got a Radion X1600. Keep in mind I can't afford to drop five hundred dollars on a graphics card. $300 would probably be pushing it too. -

Heh, it sure did surprise the tanks I was teamed with. At one point someone asked me why I had slotted taunt enhancements in all my powers. ^^

Was wondering, because it sounds like the OP was factoring in set bonuses for resistance when calculating the henchmen resistance values.
-
I thought set bonuses for resistance don't apply to henchmen?
