Yay! All sorts of fun there.
Only problem now is I went from too few choices, to too many for me to decide thanks to all the great info you all have provided. May have to try a blaster and something else to compare and contrast.
I'm thinking Ice/Ment Blaster, maybe. Any thoughts on how well that combo would work? Sonic may be the best choice, granted, but I have several sonics already.
Edit:
Quote:That's right. Heal enhancements actually boost both heal stats and regen stats of powers, and they never care if the base stat is positive or negative (buff or debuff). However, most of the Regen debuff effects are marked Ignores Enhancements and Buffs, meaning that even if you slot heal enhancers in them, the -Regen part of the power ignores the benefit.
Drain Psyche isn't flagged like that. Both the player +Regen and the for -Regen benefit fully from enhancement. -
OK, first of all, thanks for all the replies. I'm getting a lot of good info.
I would like to ask for some clarification on one thing that's come up several times. Drain Psyche being slottable. I thought to myself, "Aren't all powers slottable?" So I assume you mean that the base -regen percentage can be slotted to have a greater percentage of reduction. Is that so? If so, way cool! I assume that slotting for Heal would up the regen gained by the player and also up the -regen inflicted on the AV/GM. Am I on the right track here? -
I don't have Mid's in front of me, so how do these compare to Kinetics? I assume they're all much stronger than what a Kin has.
Edit: Nevermind, found it another way. Yeah, Kinetics -Reg is a very poor cousin. -
I'm thinking of AV and GM hunters, and all the possible combos that do that well. Seems to me -regen is a fairly important part of that.
So....
Which all powersets have -regen as a component? I can think of a few obvious ones, but I'm hoping I've overlooked a few. -
Quote:Is the recent population collapse only because you can no longer PL, or are there other subtler contributing factors. I know PLing was big, but was it really half the population???
I've seen nothing to indicate a 'population collapse.' I doubt such a thing happened. I have noticed a decrease in broadcast spam, but that is hardly proof of a population change. In all other aspects the game seems as busy, or busier, than it has in a long while.
Last I heard, subscriptions were about level. But, people may be on a little less, or for shorter periods, with the holidays. People get fairly busy this time of year. -
20 Characters?!?! I'm at 90+ and counting.... Perhaps you angered someone if they'll only let you have 20....

Anyone know of a up to date list of the global chat channels? It seems that the ones listed in the guide to guides are a bit out of date, and several of the ones I've been relying on seem to have gone defunct.

Quote:This....Honestly, I won't make much, if any, use of it, except to see how it looks on a few characters.
However, I am going to assume that you were not here when they introduced Veteran Rewards. When they released the Veterans Rewards video, and it showed the characters walking down the street, you would not believe the outrage when the Devs told us that we would not be getting the ability to walk.
And the feature was oft requested before then, but, prior to that, we had never seen what were apparently player models walking.
Don't like it, don't use it. I know I won't. But I don't begrudge the fact that lots of players who wanted the feature finally got it. Some people don't care for Architect, or Power Customization, or Holiday Events. How would you feel if your own pet favorite feature got canned or rolled back because a bunch of Debbie Downers claimed that it was the "worst waste of Dev resources for the game, ever."
If you think the Devs are wasting too much of your time or money with "wastes of time" like the walk power, exercise your own power to walk away. Send them a polite e-mail about why you are dissatisfied, followed by a polite snail mail, and then unsub until they change their ways.
On the other hand, if you can accept that you won't like everything that everyone else seems to, and are willing to wait for the features you do want, nothing is preventing you from sending a polite e-mail to the Devs detailing some of the things you would like to see.
If you do decide to leave, don't tell us (well, don't bother telling me, I don't care beyond the lost subscription revenue), but definitely tell the Devs, and do it politely (Ragequits rarely see the desired results, and are easily dismissed as irrational).

Quote:Love the boost to run speed and leaping distance, love the leaping animation, hate the run animation. I can live with it, it just looks really dorky IMO on any character that's not a ninja/martial artist. It would be great if someday we got selectable animations for this power - I'd love one that lets you run and jump like the apes in the most recent Planet of the Apes movie.
Yeah, I'm with you. Great travel power. Just enough to make not having a pool travel quite so painful. But the run (and idle) animations just look WAY too goofy. (Of course for some alts they work OK, just not many). It would be great with multiple selectable animations, under then, I'll likely give this one a miss. -
Quote:Madcap and his bubble guns? The problem is that there are so many different kinds of weapons that can be wielded in melee. A hero could use a sword OR a mace OR a hammer OR a staff OR any many other examples from the comics in hand to hand, but there's only a machine gun, pistols or a bow at range. (Maybe a laser pistol, or a zap gun or something like that, but that's not a "conventional" weapon) And how many Controllers do you see in the comics going around shooting people with Glue Guns and using Gas Grenades to disorient and confuse them? It would be a cool Power Set, I think, but there's really no precedent in the comics.

Quote:In the window where you see their message, before their name it will show the channel. If you right click on the channel, you should see an option to send message, or send chat, something like that. Choose that one then type you message. It'll format it such that it goes to that channel, regardless of how your other things are set up.I don't know if I should put this question in another board, but if I'm trying to respond to someone on a global channel and I"m assuming they might be on a different channel, how do I do that?
A few days ago, I tried to respond to someone on a different channel, they never "heard" me because I was on a different channel.
I have my tabs set up to show all chat from other channels, and I thought I was going to be responding on the same channel.
Now what? -

The person you are referencing is just a white name, like you and I and gives no citation. May very well be correct, or may be idle speculation. Anyone have any info other than the in-game announcemnet (which indicates it should be live now) which may give us a time as per a redname or official release/announcement. -
Quote:Historically, broadswords smashed, they didn't really cut much either, but that's not the discussion of the moment. I point it out to show how subjective and arbitrary the damage types already are. Since this is so, slavishly adhering to them seems to be not a matter of critical importance. And again, a wooden sword is still a sword, and though it's a stretch, I can see it as an option for a slashing sword set. It may not be a sword in terms of function (it doesn't cut), but if it looks like a sword, swings like a sword and looks like it can cut, it's "sword enough."
Quote:By comparison, an Escrima stick (or a club or a baseball bat, or a golf stick, etc.) is most decidedly NOT a sword. It doesn't look like a sword, it doesn't really swing like a sword, and there's no way in hell you can convince me it looks like it can cut. It's not a sword, and it has no business being in a sword set. Just in the same way as an axe doesn't belong in a sword set, a stick doesn't belong there, either.
Quote:Really, in my eyes it comes down to an "if it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck" argument. A wooden sword is a duck. A wooden club isn't. -
True, except... One has already. Just want more of what they've done already. Pandora (or was it Marcus Cole and Stefan Richter) already opened that box.

Quote:I feel like I keep having to point out the same thing. It's already been done and nobody seemed to care, and the game didn't fall apart or lose balanced. We have blunt skins in a blade set already. The reason to add more, as opposed to adding them into a blunt set, is that a boken, is wielded exactly as a sword is. The motions are the same. Ideally, yes, give boken their own set, but that requires man-hours that can't be spared. So a time effective solution is to skin blades with blunt weapons that would be wielded in the same fashion as the blade. AR to slings, not even vaguely the same thing, so it is a very inapt comparison (and for the record, slings are quite lethal). I'm certainly not advocating nunchucks in dual blades, or quarterstaff skins in broadsword, but would find a boken skin for the katana set a welcome addition.I just want to keep sets with "sword" and "blade" in the name using swords and/or bladed weapons. I'm willing to accept weapons that, in real life, don't cut but in-game sort of look like they do. I cannot, however, accept a weapon which CLEARLY doesn't cut put into a sword set and being stabbed through a man's chest. If it doesn't have a blade, it has no place being in a set about Dual Blades.
And why do they need to be, really? You already have a variety of basing sets, including a bashing weapon set. Why not put them in there? Why try bastardize sets that clearly don't fit the bill? It's like picking Assault Rifle and then asking for slingshots to be added as a weapon variant. I'm not against that as an attack set, but it has no business being jackhammered into Assault Rifle.
Ask for new sets, by all means. But let's try to give the sets that already exist some meaning in being separate, defined sets. -
Quote:Your statement would be correct, if the following weren't also true. No, it's completely logical. They don't want baseball bats doing lethal damage or swords doing smashing damage. This is coming down to you wanting them to do things differently, and trying to assign a faux-objective label to what amounts to nothing more than a difference of opinion.
1) In game there really is no difference between smashing and lethal.
2) The already have blunt weapons in the dual blades set that do lethal damage (sais).
3) It's wanting to do things differently only to the degree that we all want more options. If we could get a set that looked exactly like dual blades, or broadswaord, etc, that used blunt weapons, and caused smashing damage, that'd be ideal. (Again, why differentiating smashing from lethal makes any difference, or is such a big deal given the rest of the games mechanics is beyond me, but...) Barring that, the skins solution would also be acceptable. Those that want more weapons get it, the devs save themselves a lot of time re-engineering almost identical powersets, and game balance isn't altered at all. The only people that have a problem with the 2nd, easier solution are people who, apparently can suspend their disbelief enough that people can fly and shoot lasers from their eyes, but will find it unbearably unrealistic if a stick hits someone and the combat window reports that "Joe hits for 7 points of lethal damage," even though this doesn't affect gameplay or balance at all. Oh, and the devs mind too, for reasons that almost nobody finds clear. -
I have to agree with a lot of the posters, that just because broadsword and katana do lethal damage this shouldn't mean a wooden sword skin is out. The animations (ie how someone would wield a wooden sword) would fit, even if the damage type wouldn't. Who cares?
Well, the devs seem to, as they said that they'd not add skins for a damage type that didn't match the weapon type...
Except, last I checked the sai was still an option under dual blades... Hmm. A smashing weapon that looks kinda blade-like that can do lethal damage..... Already in the game. So, why again, not others?
If we can be expected to suspend disbelief on teleports to hospitals, people that can fly, and hundreds of other ways we use our imaginations to maintain the illusion that is this game, I can surely just imagine the lethal damage from a boken as smashing damage instead.
And lastly, is there any real difference (in game I mean, not in the real world, I know in RL the differences are significant) between smashing and lethal damage. Is there anyone or anything out there that has a higher resistance or defense level to smashing than to lethal? Or vice-versa? I can't think of any, but there may be one or two. But hardly enough to make it an issue, in my opinion. -
Quote:While I agreed with a lot of your comments, I think this one is just factually wrong, at least in most places. I can't prove it at present, but I believe if there is a step between warning and conventional firearms, it's only beanbag rounds/tasers or some other system designed to be non-lethal. If a police officer starts using a weapon designed to be lethal, they aren't just likely, but expected to be shooting dead center body. Limb shots? Not by professional law enforcers. In fact, this is entirely how police officers are trained to respond to threat - via escalating force. Police officers don't shoot for the head at the first sign of trouble, and I'm fairly certain any policeman who does is facing some serious disciplinary action. Verbal warning first, if those don't work then limb shots, and only in extreme situations should they resort to body shots, the idea being to try and stop the person without killing him.

Quote:Actually, this may be the most realistic part of the game. The vast majority of criminals target unsuspecting, unprotected innocents or others criminals or borderline criminals.. Most street gang violence, for example targets other street gangs. Very few criminal organizations directly target law enforcers, police, and I would imagine (if they existed in RL), super-heroes.I kind of feel for the OP, but there are RP workarounds. The implied lethality of a lot of Hero powers is pretty easy to overlook, compared to the overwhelming heroic bias to all co-op content and a great deal of Villain content. I could level a character from 1-50 redside easily on standard non-AE content, without visiting newspapers any more often than is necessary to get new contacts, and never face a Hero except for the hugely overused Longbow faction in Mayhem Missions.

Quote:I have noticed that Virtue and Freedom are rarely at two dots anymore. I'm not sure what that means, but my gaming experience is as robust as ever.
It seems a lot of folks keep pointing to these dots and saying, "DOOM!" I know the quoted poster isn't on of them, but this is as good a post as any to point to to illustrate the fixation most of the communitty seems to have with these dots..
The dots indicate, not population, but PERCENTAGE of server capacity. That means that those dots can go down either by having the population go down, or having the capacity go up. As technology continues to advance at a far faster pace than the world population, it at least as good an assumption that the servers have been upgraded or reorganized, or otherwise tweaked to increase the load capacity, as it is to assume that everyone has left for Champions, parchessi, or whatever else the 'bringer of doom'-of-the-day happens to be.
EDIT: I guess I should have kept reading... -
Many thanks, all. That's exactly what I wanted to know, and the links provided to elsewhere for even more detail were much appreciated, too.

Can someone explain the difference between ACC Mods and To-Hit Mods? I know they are different, but since I don't know ecactly how, it's hard to choose between a +ACC or a To Hit Bonus, or the reverse if talking about a debuff.
Thanks in advance.

I'd still love to see the "On Mission Map"/"On ArenaMap"/"In Base" display fixed someday. It still seems as if a teammate is in any of the three the game chooses one of those messages almost at random. But that's been there for SO long.........

With each toon being able to set itself to view as more than 1 for purposes of spawning inside missions, what happens if a toon set to x4 teams with 3 others set the same way? Will they, when teamed, spawn as if a never seen before team of 16? Or is it still capped at 8? I'm just trying to picture the 8 man x8 team.
I've tried to test this out myself, but the few times I"ve been on the Test since it went Open Beta it's been completely dead.
Haven't seen this addressed elsewhere either, but I'll admit, I didn't look really hard.
