Quote:As we know, we now have a way to remove eliminate inactive globals, however, that doesn't solve the issue that, imo, we need more global channels.
How?! And can I use this to dump some of my /gignoreds? I'd love to un ignore the accounts that have been gone for years and save my limited ignore space for people that are still about.
Even if this doesn't translate to the /ignore I'd like to know how to dump inactive globals from a chan. And, I really do think that you should be auto-dumped after a month or 3 of inactivity.. -
Quote:Totally agree with all of this, except, I'd like to add some extra oomph. I play on 7 servers. 10-15 chans is just WAY insufficient. If we had 3-5 Server chans (per server we play on, figured by alt I suppose would be best), and then 10 truly global chans, that would work. But right now I can't use the AE Chan, the Auction chan, the Base-builders chan, because I'd lose a 'server' type chan. As is I have to dump and ask for a re invite almost daily for SG specific chans., which I'm sure is becoming a pain for the chan mods.I was going to make a new thread for this, but found this one and thought it may be more productive to revisit this one.
As we know, we now have a way to remove eliminate inactive globals, however, that doesn't solve the issue that, imo, we need more global channels.
The free server xfers we had were great and as a result, a lot of people branched off from their "home" server. I also could see there being new Global Channels being created to cater to the Praetorian populace or matters related to the incarnate or side-switching feature. Also, as more new and neat features are added, it'd be nice to be able to belong to channels that focus on them or area of interest.
I'd also like for there to be some improvements in terms of global channel moderation, such as bans actually having teeth and preventing someone who is banned from rejoining the GC. If this is too difficult, I'd settle for just having more GC and we make do as we have been.
I know what you're saying; 10 was find in the olden days, it should be fine now.
However, look at my breakdown:
1 - JfA2010, one of the main channels for my home server.
2 - Justice United, one of the main channels for my home server.
3,4,5 - Friend channels on my home server.
6 - Freedom Elite, one of the main channels for an adopted server.
7 - Friend channel on an adopted server.
8 - N P C, for the Mentor Project
9 - PvP channel
10 - Australia, due to play times.
What I'd also like to have - 3 or 4 friend channels I've had to leave because I hit my cap, RF2009, Market, etc. And mind you, right now I only have channels from 2 servers, yet I moved toons to a total of 4.
I don't know how big a pain this will be to fix, but I do hope it becomes a priority. Making people feel that expanding beyond one server isn't a good idea is a good way to tell folks that they should limit their CoX play. Of course, not that it's stopped me. -
I'm hearing plenty of folks talking about 1-20 content being better with inherent Fitness powers. But just because a power is inherent, doesn't mean it's usable from lvl 1. Khelds have inherent powers that unlock later. Heck, even the Pocket D transporter doesn't unlock till lvl 3. So, it's perfectly plausible that the tier 1 & 2 Fitness powers unlock at lvl 6, Health at 14, and Stamina at 20, which wouldn't change the lvl 1-20 content much, except that we'd have more powers from our primary and secondary.
So, do we have official word on how exactly the inherent Fitness will work? When the powers become active? If there was official word, can ya please link it? If I find it before anyone else links, I'll edit this post to add it in. -
Fortunately, I've not had anywhere near the amount of problems you all have detailed. Perhaps the problems been exaggerated, or perhaps I'm just lucky. But I totally agree that the fleeing mobs *is* a pain. It isn't fun. Realistic perhaps, but not fun.
All that being said, perhaps mobs should have 2 types of run away. A 'fall back' and a 'flee' type AI. The 'fall back' is just to break LOS and most likely shouldn't apply to GMs (and maybe AVs). The 'flee' is full-on running away. And if a mobs flees, it should count as defeated. XP awarded, drops happen, and the mish requirements fulfilled. This would be very in line with the comic genre, as many a hero wins the day by only getting the baddies to flee. I think it would also allow a fun new tactical option to the players in that they could try to get the baddies to flee, and that may be faster and more efficient in some cases that defeating the opponents. If the Devs then feel that this is too easy, just lower the flee likelihood numbers. -
I'm not sure this is the case, but it may be. I hope it is. I hope it's a forced change of tactics.. Some things just rock Prime Earths world. But perhaps not here, new tactic needed.. Or maybe it's just way more difficult, as some are saying.
I know I cruised (fought with difficulty that I survived) with my first 3 builds, (Tank, Troller, Brute) but none was the stereotypical build. And I am far from the Uber Player some are..
For me, it was challenging, and fun.. Never was a 'too tough'.
Quote:It should be noted, I think, since someone will bring it up, that there may still be ways to improve your gameplay and do better. The problem with that is, you're pretty much requiring a level of player competency that exceeds even standard veteran skills.
There are real players around and in this thread stating they have absolutely no trouble with Praetoria whatsoever and they don't know what people are talking about. I'm sure there are some people out there who are good enough that they aren't at all challenged by the new enemies. But there are real, actual veteran players who are pretty good at this game already, and while maybe they aren't the best players around, they are having real, actual problems dying to these enemies despite their numerous advantages such as knowledge of game mechanics and veteran rewards.
The problem though is you're expecting brand new players to attain this level of skill. And right away. It's about like introducing someone to a fighting game by handing them the controller during the final boss fight. Absolute experts at the game may find this very easy as they've memorized every intricate detail and the moves and patterns, and know the ins-and-outs enough to play to their advantage. Normal veteran players may be good enough to run the rest of the game okay but still struggle with this fight. A brand new player experiencing this for the first time with no proper training and time to learn is just going to die repeatedly, throw the controller, and leave the room.
And by leave the room I mean go play another MMO. -
Squee!! Only took 3 hours, but I'm finally caught up to the thread! Yay!!
-
Agreed. It does, and for some alts, it works. But really, a Norman helmet every time I want a long braid? Just add the braid to the hairstyle list (for both genders! Tired of finding the hair/shirt/x I want, just to find out it's gender limited).
-
Quote:Ditto this, tooI think all of the ones I want have been mentioned (but add another "me too" for more traditional Dual Pistols animations).
One thing I would like is more options for "No FX" across the board. I like that I can turn off aura effects from sets like invuln and regen, but being able to turn off the bright effects of Super Strength or the dark clouds from Dark Melee would make traditional strong/brawler concepts easier to swallow.
In other words, glowing punches work for Iron Fist. Not so much for Luke Cage, y'know? -
Quote:*nods* This too..All non weapon blast/ranged powers having a choice of origin points... eyes, chest, double arm, single arm, head, etc.
All device type powers (Medecine Pool, Traps, Devices) having non tech options/graphics... a mystical/mutant web spell, a floating eye(observer?) or energy sphere for targeting drones, a syringe or magic wand for aid self/other, etc.
A non gun fu pistol set...
Sadly, it seems there is SO much I want... -
-
Quote:I think everyone that's played the game would 2nd this.Energy Melee - I'm actually kinda ok with the animations, but those pom-poms... ugh... it would be nice if we could change the glow to something like a subtle glowing second-skin instead of a big ball of light, or even get rid of it all together for natural-looking attacks.

Quote:Know what I want an alternate animation for?
REST
That's right. Rest. The power. You know that semi-cool kneeling animation? Wouldn't it be cool if we had options? Like, say:
*Sprawled on the ground, huffing and puffing, exhausted. I mean, when I run out of breath, I tend to collapse, not just kind of kneel.
*Upright and posing. A more "dignified" way to rest. Think the current /em stancevillain2.
*Yoga on the ground, eating out of a picnic basket, or out of a duffel bag. Eating like a slob is optional. That's just how some people recover their energy.
*Floating in the air with swirling mystical energies. Some people need to meditate to regain their energies, after all.
*Hunched over, hands on knees, gasping for breath. You know what out-of-shape people look like when they run a mile? Like that.
And that's just off the top of my head.
This is a fun idea!
Low priority, I'll grant, but very fun. Like 'Walk'. -
Quote:Speaking of redraws.. Can we please have holsters/sheaths/quivers?Eyebeams bigger, like Cyclops as opposed to Superman.
Dual Pistols redraw to be looked at and hopefully eliminated or at least reduced where possible and thematically appropriate (does Kinetics really require my hands to be empty with every cast?)
Broadsword. Right now it's a snoozefest.
This game also needs more mystic circles. =) Alternate anims, or a new control set, or something, but moarplzthx. =) -

Quote:I'll 2nd thisDesperately need alternatives to the skulls in Dark Blast/Dark Miasma, I love both sets but cringe every time my 'hero' flings a skull...though I guess the sets are kinda 'evil' in themselves, the skulls are definitely too cheesey-evil for me. Talking specifically about Gloom and Fearsome Stare here.

Quote:Patch notes updated. The Syndicate has unfortunately declined to share their costume pieces for the time being. We apologize on their behalf.
Stupid *mumble mumble* mobsters. Never can trust them. What?!!?!? Oh, I didn't say a word..
But, having got a good up close look at their fashion sense, it's no real tragedy that their styles aren't open to copycats. You've done the world a favor. -
Quote:The point wasn't to give folks another freespec. It was to not short people a freespec. Those that had freespecs from I17 they were putting off to the last minute (Mon) to use their I17 freespec lost it when I18 went live early, unannounced. Now, if you've used your I17, and have an I18 freespec to use now, you're right where you should be. If you still hadn't used your I17 freespec, that's on you, as you should have known for a while now you'd lose it Tues. If you didn't end up with an I17 and 2 I18 freespecs, that's not grounds to complain, as the intent wasn't to give out 2 for I18 anyhow, only to make sure nobody got shorted from an unannounced early launch.Just to add my 2 Inf, as much as I appreciate another Freespec, a little more notice would have been nice. I'm not upset, just in the case of an "emergency maintenance" - the additional spec should stack if we haven't gotten to the first one given only 2 days ago. What can I say, I've been around a bit - I've burned all my 'specs on some toons.
Undoubtedly, some people will have ended up with an extra, well, bonus to them.
At least that's my take on it. -
Quote:This list pretty well covers most of my requests. I'd just add a few things that I've not seen said over and over (but I'll admit to only having read the first 10 pages closely, then I started longing to get back to GR).Power Pools
- Travel -- use hover animation & flight emotes for flight, puff-of-smoke or arm-tech summoning for TP, less glowie/color customize for SS, landing crater for SJ
- Leadership -- no ideas really, but something less military
- Medicine -- use empathy or pain dom animations, something less techie
- Fighting -- martial arts style options
- As much as I complain about wanting non-techie versions of the power pools, I'd be selfish to not mention techie versions of these
- Staffs, wands, rifles & rayguns -- various weapons to fire each blast through a staff, wand, or gun; other non-blasts could do the same, when appropriate (i.e. confuse/stun/hold raygun, or weather summoning staffs)
- Dual Pistols -- I love the set, personally, but I could like something more "cowboy" as well
- Fire blast -- the snipe power in this set bugs the heck out of me. I hate it. Hate.
- In-game critters -- if not complete customization, how about allowing relevant sets from in-game critters (i.e. -Arachnos robots, Warrior thugs, CoT demons, Tsoo ninjas, etc)
- more magical versions (i.e. mystic circles for targeted AoEs)
First: Any normal looking variant of Ninja Run. Something where the runner is mostly vertical, and has arm motion while running.
Second: Not just a sonic gun variant for the sonic powers, but maybe even a musical instrument option. I'd love a piper type sonic alt. Or a trumpeter, or even a electric guitar sonic blaster... Just think that would be a world of fun. Of course, I know it'd be a world of work, too.
Third: For both Dual Blade and perhaps Broadsword, some animations that focus more on point-work. -
Quote:I second whole-heatedly.I'm going to assume Power Pools are out, but Jump Kick looks outright crazy on non spider-hero guys.
Considering how split the community is on Dual Pistols... the set needs options for less "Gun-Fu", and more "realistic" shooting. I'm sure that will be one heck of a challenge to make interesting normal animations with the same animation time. -

Quote:I bought 10 extra character slots several weeks ago, and GR was pre-ordered almost as soon as it was available. However, the slots I've purchased in advance aren't redeemable while the store is down.Any way you put it, you are trying to buy the product last minute. In this case it is you husbands fault and not yours, but that doesn't change the overall fact that you just need to be patient and wait for the store to come back on-line. Unless I miss my guess they are working that issue right now in order to make more money. I know I would if I was in their place.
Btw Perfect Pain, I love your avatar. I used to have a dog just like that as a kids.
So assuming a problem discovered is just the fault of the people having it, and therefor not *really* a problem but some form of Karma isn't entirely true or helpful. However, the advice of patience is probably still the best advice, I'll readily admit. -
I have several thoughts on this topic. And I've played several Kins/ and /Kins of all sorts.
1) Yes, it can be annoying to be hounded for a buff, especially if the buff in question is still active. And it does happen.
2) No, nothing wrong with politeness.
3) But, to expect a please and thank you for each and every application is very out of line and seems, passive-aggressive to the point of creepy to me.. I'd not want to team with you.
But, all that being said, I find it interesting that everyone, people who have never played a kin, people who've played a few, and people who've played a lot all seem to agree that there is only one correct way to play a kin, regardless of situation, team make-up, or the other power set in question. And yet they don't agree on what that one and only one way is. And people get grumpy is you fail to meet the expectation of their opinion of the right way.
Most other powersets, the player gets some leeway to evaluate situations as the arise in light of the team, their power choices and slotting, and to make the best choices, but kins don't usually get that leeway.
I mean, I can't recall ever hearing someone tell a blaster, "I can't believe you were too busy to use the single target attack on the mob attacking me because you were dropping an AOE elsewhere?!?"
They way I look at it is, I'll evaluate and choose the best course of action for the team, as best I can, in any situation, with any AT or powerset I play. I expect my team to be doing the same. And frankly, if I'm busy doing my job, I can't have been paying to close attention to what any single teammate was doing every moment of the way, so I'll trust you were doing your job.
However, I may notice if a tank avoids melee. Or if someone with SB never uses it (or refuses to use it without a please/thank you). Or is the blaster never attacks, etc. I may also notice in the Kin only SBs and nothing else. If the tank only uses taunt and the aura and never an attack. If the emp only uses heals and never a fort or an attack.
If everyone is busy doing their best to use all the tools at their disposal, and in response to the situation, to help the team, I'm good. A kin expecting to be begged for SB at every application tho, is like an emp spamming Heal Aura and doing nothing else while we're rolling and nobodys getting injured. IE, not really helping near as well as they could if they just tried.
Rant over. -
Very nice guide.
Not sure if you're still about, but if you are, I do have one question... You took time to spell out and explain the pros and cons of a ton of different soft controls, even including knockback/up and intangible, but made no mention of fear. What gives? Or did I just miss it? -
Would the tactic be the same vs. only one enemy? IE vs only a Hero? When you can't count on it hitting vs a bunch of easy targets? Just curious....
