Even with a good team, with a good tanker, its just too dangerous
[/ QUOTE ]With a good tanker, it's NOT dangerous. A good tank can keep 99% of the aggro on themselves.
[/ QUOTE ]
How would any tanker save a fire blaster from Pbaoes, AoEs or cones directed at the tank?
[/ QUOTE ]they wouldn't. If there's a lot of those flying around (Which is only when facing few spesific groups), the blaster should apply common sense and not get close to the tank. -

/Fire is not weaker than any other secondary, it just doesn't do that SAME things as the other ones. If you want the highest AoE damage, you take /fire. If you want utility, or ST damage, you don't. -
Fire/ and /Fire are both AoE sets, and for AoE damage they clerly outperform the other blaster sets. I fail to see a problem there.

2. Knocking enemies up and down is great for survival, but enemies not attacking = fury bar diminishing.
[/ QUOTE ]With a decent attack chain your fury shouldn't be dropping even if you're not being attacked. -

There is no resistance debuff resistance, since resistance inheretly resists resistance debuffs. Defence doesn't inheretly resist defence debuffs, which is why many defence powers got defence debuff resistance added.
[/ QUOTE ]
*unpicks brain*
Have you a source for this? I havent seen anything on resistance powers resisting -res debuffs.
Good post mind. Very germanic in its grammar!
[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, the wording is kinda awkward
As for source, I'll quote Arcana's Guide to Defense v1.4:
[ QUOTE ]
This is significant because resistance does not work that way. All resistance powers have an inherent resistance to resistance debuffs. When someone with 40% defense is hit with a 10% defense debuff, defense is reduced to 30%. When someone with 40% resistance is hit with a 10% resistance debuff, 40% of the debuff is resisted, and actual damage resistance drops to 34%, not 30%. Furthermore, the resistance to debuffs remains 40%. If hit with another 10% resistance debuff, resistance drops to 28%, not 20% (like defense would be) and not 27.4%, which would be the case if resistance was truely dropped to 34%.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also, it should be noted that damage resistance also resists damage debuffs, not just resistance debuffs. -

[ QUOTE ]
Its horses for courses. Personally, I think defence is better than resistance because you avoid all the debuffs. A good example is facing wailers. I saw a fire brute (with tough) get absolutely hammered by wailers because of massively stacking -resistance debuffs a few days ago. An energy armour brute would survive much longer as the -res debuffs wouldnt hit so often.
[/ QUOTE ]However, a brute with really high resist (Granite armor, unstoppable) wouldn't be really hurt as the resistance debuffs would get resisted by the resistance, and thus only apply a minor effect, even stacked. -
Inv will be less squishy (against S/L anyways), and axe will get more damaging faster. So I'd go with that.

So if your do not take taunt you just have 1 more weak/mid attack...
[/ QUOTE ]My weakest attack (Apart for the 1st attack that I cant drop) is Beheader, which does about the same amount of damage (Actual damage, not BI) than blaster T2 attacks (Power Blast, Aimed shot etc.), hardly a weak attack. There's simply no room in my build for taunt before L49. -
[ QUOTE ]
But less effective.
[/ QUOTE ]Taking taunt would also make me less effective in things other than aggro conytrol. And since I can control aggro fine, I can't see a reason to take it. -
I don't actually attack, but rather zip from mob to mob with SS and catch them with CE.

[ QUOTE ]
Taunt is a must have for every tankers, as well for pve or pvp purpose. Monsters are oftenly spreaded and if you don't have a real ranged taunt power (don't tell me that "hurl" is a good taunt power: too slow, too long recharge and taunt effect too short) you'll have to jump around and hit every mob to keep aggro.
[/ QUOTE ]Which is what you have travel powers for. Tanking without taunt is possible, and it isn't all that hard either. -
[ QUOTE ]
what can i hope to phase with a dimension shift slotted with 3 acc and 3 intengibility enhancement
in pve: lieutenant? boss? elite? GM ? AV?
in pVp: scrapp? force fielder? tank ?
[/ QUOTE ]Anything in PvP with no intangibility enhancers.
In PvE, you can phase at least EB's (Without triangles) with no enhancers, not sure of AV's/triangled EB's. I don't think you can phase GM's, apart for maybe with several players stacking a phase power. -
Main tip to starting a brute: Don't use toggles before stamina unless you really need them. That will allow you to have more endurance, which means more continous SMASH, which means more fury, which means more powerful SMASH!

Since my tanker is almost always fighting higher level mobs

Unyielding from the Invulnerability set. Entropy Shield from Energy Aura and Increase Density from Kinetics.

[ QUOTE ]
I have never, ever come across a tank that can keep aggro off me as a WS with just attacks and auras, never. I dont play blasters but I routinely see tanks lose aggro on blasters nuking when they dont have taunt.
[/ QUOTE ]Whether the blaster is using a nuke or a low-power AoE doesn't make a difference. As long as the targets are affected by a taunt effect (Which gauntlet is), they will focus only on the source of the taunt effect, no matter how much damage is dealt to them.
All the tank needs to do is to keep the enemies grouped well enough so that they can all be affected by his aura. -

Put the tank against the cabal and he will be about as usefull as George W. Bush as president of the USA...
[/ QUOTE ]I'd rather not take a power just for a group that you need to fight in...what, 4 missions?
[/ QUOTE ]
I use taunt in every single mission, repeatedly, myself. But then Im not satisfied with receiving anything less than 90% of aggro.
[/ QUOTE ]I keep nearly 100% aggro without taunt. Only time I've had problems without it was the croatoa TF, with the cabal AV and her companions. (Of course, that was when AV's were unaffected by gauntlet and auras). -

My point is: if they had taunt I could let go and blow the [censored] out of everything.
[/ QUOTE ]And your point is wrong. If the player couldn't keep aggro without taunt, they're a bad tank, and propably wouldn't be able to keep the aggro properly even if they did have taunt. -

/emp a real troller? Meh
[/ QUOTE ]The point in taking /emp is so you can ignore your secondary and take all the mind powers -
MaX is....complicated. I've got hundreds of pieces of his potential bio floating in my head, but arranging them and deciding what's canon and what's not....Bah, I'm too lazy

Infernia MaXina Lvl22 = 40days
Clinophobia Lvl16 = 22days

Currently busy with DDO so not online in CoH much. -
Here's a pic of MaX, it's quite old (August 2005), but the first costume hasn't changed a lot after that....Although I think it has a white-blue scarf now.
