  1. Even if we assumed that the loot supply would counter the inf supply from farmers, it would still lead to a price increase for those items that do not drop from normal farming, mainly TF and trial pool rewards.
  2. [ QUOTE ]

But. How will it work in passives? 120 seconds from when?

[/ QUOTE ]From when the passive ticks. Which is usually once or twice per second.

    So it'll be perma.
  3. [ QUOTE ]

Firstly its apparent that those who have said such a stance have not suffered such an occurence themselves

[/ QUOTE ]Possibly because we do not put ourself in the risk of such an occurrence happening in the first place?

Not that I'd be fussed if somebody stole some base salvage, that stuff is practically worthless anyways.

    [ QUOTE ]
Again, im afriad nothing in how I think or what I was brought up to believe, or was told and have learnt/know to be right or wrong allows me to excuse theft simply because "technically" the rules as laid out presently do not dissallow it.

Whether it is not prevented by a rule or not, at the end of the day you have to apply common sense.. and when a rule does not prevent a theft or circumstances where thefts can continue then blatantly something is not quit being adequately covered as far as the rules or facilities for us to provide ourselves in game security is concerned.

[/ QUOTE ]Yet you yourself agree to those rules every time you start up the game (Well, most likely, although it's circumventable).

    [ QUOTE ]
If nothing else comes out of the discussion I would expect at the very least NCoft sees that the current permissions system is blatantly inadequate for the security they expect us to provide ourselves and to DO something about fixing the problem.

[/ QUOTE ]There have been several similiar cases in the past, so this thread, especially seeing as it's on the european boards (yes, I'm aware that the devs supposedly visit here now and then), is unlikely to have any effect. I wouldn't be suprised if the permission system was revamped in the upcoming base update though.

    [ QUOTE ]

There are fundamental things in all societies that are not accepted and theft is one of them.

[/ QUOTE ]The concept of theft only comes with the concept of ownership, which is hardly present in all societies. (Although admittedly does exist in most modern ones)

    [ QUOTE ]
At the end of the day he took something he knew he should not have, without my permission.. He KNEW it was wrong and that is why he ran (left the Sg and set me to global ignore and then later tried to deny and excuse it). If he had genuinely thought it was okay to help himself he would never have had any need to hide or do those things.. but he did bcause he knew it was a betrayal.

[/ QUOTE ]Or he might simply have severed ties with you because he had nothing further to gain.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
We have rules for code of conduct yet apparently theft is not included.

[/ QUOTE ]Theft would be against the rules, a breach of trust however isn't.

The alternative would be, stay with me on this as it's a pretty wild and radical notion, just leave missions as they are and stop looking for ways to screw other players because they don't like their definition of enjoyment.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This isn't an anti-farming suggestion - having a timer that only starts when the mission owner enters the door means that a farmer just needs the mission on an alt, which can then be left outside the mission while it's farmed over and over again without starting the timer.
It's mroe a suggestion for making mission failure a bigger threat.

[/ QUOTE ]And having a two-day timer accomplishes that how?
  6. [ QUOTE ]

2 days time limit - not 48 hours realtime, but 48 hours game time - plenty of time to farm a mission and plenty of time to finish one. Not that I want a time limit on all missions, but if it had to be done, I'd want something like this.

[/ QUOTE ]And when you have several alts you only play once every few months?

    [/ QUOTE ]

But the timer would only start when you go in the door, not when you accept the mission.

[/ QUOTE ]So you're not going to start any missions unless you know you have the time to finish them.

Also, it'd allow griefing by entering a teammate's mission.

The day they put timers on all missions is the day I actually construct a prankster like boxing glove on a spring, package it up, put a nice bow on the box and send it to the Devs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But the timers are usually 90 minutes or an hour - and missions can be done way fatser than that - the idea is just to add a little more sense of urgency to things.

[/ QUOTE ]Unless you have to suddenly log off. Or want to pick several missions at once, or a dozen of other equally valid reasons.
  9. [ QUOTE ]

You might want to think about taking a travel power much later, if at all, ESPECIALLY Super Speed - Swift + Sprint + Mental Training gives you close to the same run speed as unslotted Super Speed.

[/ QUOTE ]It gives you about half the speed of unslotted SS, and about 1/3 of the runspeed cap.

You could probably fit anything between 80 to 350 frames in that size, depending on image quality.

Please note that in addition to writing us, you should always feel free to post your constructive opinions/feedback/suggestions on the City of Heroes/Villains message boards at http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com and http://uk.boards.cityofvillains.com , where your fellow players and the dev team will be able to view them first hand. Your view on the rules making wrong things right REALLY is obscure, its a good job not many people share it or the world would be a [censored] up place.

[/ QUOTE ]Laws and rules represent what the society has chosen to allow. Therefore, as long as someone acts by them, I have no right to demand that they be punished for it. That doesn't mean I have to condone their actions. After all, people don't have to force their own moral views on others.

I just hope you never get stolen from in this way, for althoug it undoubtedly give you a little bit more perspective on the right and wrongs of it all it is not something I would wish on anyone.

[/ QUOTE ]If I will get "stolen" because trusting someone who wasn't trustworthy, then I'll simply accept my loss and move on. Assuming they played by the rules, they had the right to make their choice, even if it wasn't beneficial for me.

    [ QUOTE ]
As for what is the difference between Revenge and someone having to answer for thier unacceptable behaviour..if that isnt obvious, there would seem little point me explaining it.

[/ QUOTE ]Surely you are aware that, alongside with deterrence and rehabilitation, revenge (or "retribution") is one of the three main factors in most criminal punishment systems?

Max mate some people are less interested by the gums flapping and more interested in the feelings involved

[/ QUOTE ]And they have the full right to ignore my posts if they find them irrelevant or offensive.

Meanwhile, I'll just continue replying when I see some points I'd like to reply to.
  17. I do get your point, I just think you're wrong. You were in no way forced to give them access to the storage, but you did. Since the permission system functions on a binary system rather than with more complex permissions, at that point any limitations you imposed on them were fully trust-based, not via game mechanics, and thus you no longer had protection of them being broken.

  18. [ QUOTE ]
This is SO not about Revenge lol, though I definitely feel betrayed. this is about people who do wrong things HAVING to answer for them in an applicable manner...

[/ QUOTE ]Which is different from revenge...how exactly?
    [ QUOTE ]
If you honestly think someone stealing by the rules is acceptable

[/ QUOTE ]If it's done by the rules, of course it's acceptable. Whether the rules should be changed is another issue altogether.
  19. [ QUOTE ]

Actually it is valid, as with the metaphor I gave the option the give access is an all or nothing affair

[/ QUOTE ]Option to access != Permission to use/take. If you were to give someone the keys to your house and write a contract with them allowing them to take whatever they wish into their own possession, then it would be comparable to this situation.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Mate don't get me wrong but I'd be catious abot blaming the entire system for one mans abuse of it. It would be a shame to see 3+ years work go down the pan for the sake of one ijut.

[/ QUOTE ]We've had threads like this before, the system isn't going to be removed. The most we're going to see will be more customization of the storage access, which would be a Good Thing™
  21. [ QUOTE ]

For example.. if I have a flat and I look for a flat mate and all his references say his an awesome person.. such that I give this seemingly trusworthy effective stranger a key to my flat, only later find that after a week I come home one night and discover all my property has gone and my flat mate has vanished.. On what planet do you think the police would tell me sorry its your fault you gave him the key, consider it a learning experience and know better next time? Obviously that would not happen, the police would never tell me that, instead they would do everything possible to apprehend the thief and make him answerable for his actions and if humanly possible retrieve what was taken. And even if it wasnt retreivable id have insurance that would at least reimburse me for my loss.

[/ QUOTE ]Not a valid metaphor. What you did was to give them the same rights to the stored items as you had, not simply providing access to the space where they're stored at.

Oh, and you missed one instance of the name when editing your first post.
  22. By allowing them access to the base salvage, you effectively gave them the permission to empty the salvage bins should they want to do so. It's simply the way things work. It's like having a shared bank account with someone else, if they decided to empty the money from it it's their decision, and they have the right to do it.

Something big costumewise I think is coming... Jay's been -awfully- quite for a while, meaning either something big is coming to the system, or he's working on conversions for any possible engine update.
