  1. Got a character or build you love, but just can't reason out a good backstory for them? Why not let the masses have their way with it, and maybe- just maybe- something good could come of it!

The idea is simple. Post your mystery character's:
    1. name and gender.
    2. Archetype and power sets, including pools
    3. Origin
    4. a quick description of their appearance (ugly/weird/sexy/spikes/skulls/cat girl/zombie/weapons of choice/etc.)
    5. Let the never-fail creative magic of thousands of anonymous weirdos breath a while new dimension into your alter ego! Or just post for yucks like it was Mad Libs.
    6. Dazzle your friends and intimidate newbs!
  2. I was just lvling my Spines/Inv this past (double XP!) weekend. She seemed a tad squishy at times (mid-20s) but then I realized all my enhans were red. Even so, i frequently stole aggro from various tanks (despite their best efforts,) and only died once.

Thunderclap is actually pretty nice when you stack it with stalagmites. And Snowstorm + Quicksand will pretty much grind any mob to a crippling stop.

I can understand people skipping Hurricane, because it is so situational, but WOW, when that situation arises, it can be one of the most FUN powers in the game!
  4. In all fairness, it can be hard to figure out how to play a toon against anything but Maniac Slammers after 46 levels.
  5. Another vote for Earth/Storm/Fire. Earth and Storm are two great tastes that go great together. Fireball is nice, Fire shield is par, consume is a lifesaver if you are click-happy like me.

Although all of the combos are pretty viable. you really can't go wrong.
  6. There's a spot on Fort Darwin (or at least there used to be- haven't played red-side in a while) where you can log out and work on two job simultaneously. Almost right where you get dropped off from character creation/tutorial, and close enough to the carriers to catch the second Day Job location.

So what i'm wondering is- are there any similar locations blueside?
  7. This was years ago, during one of the Halloween events. I was running around on my dedicated empath in Brickstown. I spotted was must have been AT LEAST a dozen Elochai GMs, spawned pretty much on top of each other. It was like a pissed off forest spawned right in the middle of the neighborhood.

So many of them... so many... so many...

I was so mesmerized, my logical, not stupid part of my brain was competely powerless to stop my hand... and I activated my one, unslotted attack. PEW!

The pack of Elochais answered with a CRAPSTORM of fire, and I hit the blacktop like a greased pig.
  8. Consuuuuuuuuume!

that one power is the saving grace of Fire. Even after the -recovery of an EMP and an empty blue bar, consume will fully refuel my off just a few foes.

I'm lusting after the mez protection of Psi, but until I get some more +recovery from my sets, in Fire I will stay.
  9. On my Fire/Rad, I made one of the costumes "flipped" (fire in green, rad in red/orange.) it looks pretty kewl, especially the little toxic green monkeys spewing pollution.

That's pretty much what i slot for. The only time I end up faceplanting is if i get sloppy (ie. lazy about dropping debuffs.) Fire/Rad gives you a very versatile toolbox, even at the very low levels. Use the tools right, in the right order, and the world is your oyster. Use them wrong, and the world is a cold, hard floor.

    [chain]?

Cool, thanks for the clarifications everyone!

    [chain]?

See, I thought it was some kind of tool for 'chaining" moves together too. But the info box clearly explains that it is a NECKLACE, a gold chain you wear. Unless Hamidon got all playah and stepped up his (her?) game and decided to give me a nice little somethin somethin, I think its fair to say Hami is not the source.

    [chain]?

So last night I was casually looking at my enhancements on my 50 Controller, when i noticed a weird entry on the right-hand column (the one with the inherent and pool powers.)

Way down at the bottom, under the Epic pool powers, was one word- Chain. It was listed like a header, like "Fitness" or "Flight", but didn't have anything underneath it.

I bracketed it, and found out it was a magic gold chain/necklace that is supposed to increase my defense debuff powers by "0%" but I could not use it because I was not Mutant/magic. It was listed with the graphics of an enhancement recipe, although there was nothing in my tray or recipe list.

Is this a bug? A hint to an upcoming loot system? Anyone else notice anything similar?

    Blind invite lol

I accidentally blind invited someone to my Sg the other day. luckily they were already in one and never saw the vite. I think I was trying to /info them and lagged onto the wrong pop up option. Or maybe I'm just a spastic bumblefist.

...there's really no "maybe" about that one...
  16. I was more interested in WoC as addtional mitigation, but if the confuse is effective enough it might actually make you a MORE efficient killing (er, arresting) machine, from an influence/xp per hour perspective. For a small trade in xp/influence, you benefit from the damage inflicted from confused enemies. Not to mention the secondary effects of confused enemy attacks, which won't cost you anything.

That is, of course, if the confuse is effective. I seem to remember the blaster version requires some slotting just to get the ticks to overlap.

Then you need to be fighting tougher/higher lvl enemies! More mitigation = surviving greater risks = more rewards and (imho,) more satisfying action!
  20. Anyone tried out WoC for trollers? I'm considering it for my Fire/Rad, just to make a juicy cocktail of PBAoE goodness with Hootfeet and CC.

    Fire/Rad/Stone

I could see skipping CC if you didn't have anything to pair it with, like Hotfeet or Artic Air. You have to go where Squishies fear to tread to get the most of CC, so it works best to have something to back it up.

The Chance to Hold proc in Cages hits A LOT. Way more than advertised, it seems, and if you pair that with CC (and yet another Chance to Hold proc) you can lock down damn near everything before you even have to thing about using Cinders (and its +Chance to hold proc)- mua ha ha!

is that... fun? You make it sound more like a tedious chore than actually playing/adapting/improvising, with the fun and excitement of a lifetime career at the DMV.

Sorry, I'm not trying to threadjack this into some rant about farming or anything. I actually enjoy farming, especially when the team is running dangerous close to wipe. I just have a long-standing rule that when my playstyle for a toon boils down a linear algorithm I could program, its time to roll a new toon.

    COH Mythbusters

When they first added the Luska/Giant octopus event to the game, the myths about how to get to to spawn were legion.

-The dock worker protests much be broken up to spawn Luska. (beats me how)
-The dock worker protests much be joined up to spawn Luska. (solidarity, brothers!)
-You MUST have an 8-person team, and every member must be at a protest (viva la revolution!)
-If you click on every protester, at every protest.
-If you/your whole team is in the water.
-If you visit certain key "activation" points in IP.
-If a team finishes a Respec trial.
    -If the Kraken is defeated.
    -If the Kraken respec's.
    -If someone disrespects the Kraken.
-Luska only appears at night/during the day/if your toggles are on/if your toggles are off/if you clap REALLY hard and BELIEVE, damn you.

This was before the <Activity> channel, so spotting her was pretty much reliant on luck and word of mouth.

    Fire/Rad/Stone

Yeah, it seems weird to me as well that if you're shooting for a very unconventional build, why would you post it, invite criticism, and then defend those unconventional choices.

My Fire/rad is STARVING for slots. I've been trying to shore her up with Hamis and set bonuses just so I can free up the odd slot or two.
  25. I tweaked my Fire powers to make them look a little more robust. Red/Yellow really pops nicely, as opposed to the standard, monotonous orange of Fire.

I like LM's idea of different colors for different Rad debuffs. May have to play around with that.

I saw someone with a blood-red singularity. Looked very kewl, like a Pain/ vortex.
