I take Fly on almost all my toons for one simple reason- I like to point my toon at the mission door, hit autorun, and tab over to my desktop and check my e-mail, poke around on the internet, etc etc.
On my SJ characters, it just feels like too much work to get somewhere (although I do enjoying playing "the ground is lava".)
On my very few Speedsters, I HATE looking for stairs, ramps, etc, or having to switch to a jetpack to get over some ledge.
And I never play teleporters. Because I don't hate myself. -
I think there is a long-standing thread for this on the Suggestions and Ideas forum.

You gotta gut the NPCs some slack. They are almost completely deaf, and horribly near-sighted (how else would you explain them not noticing you brutalizing their buddies on the other side of a small room?) So maybe they can't see stuff 50 feet away, but they can see stuff right in front of them REALLY well!

I think its the refreshing of shields that turns alot of people off to it (myself included.) It feels more like busy work. More like checking off boxes rather than playing and enjoying yourself. Same reason I can't get a /kin past level 26 :-/
That said, its still a pretty useful set, and it also takes power customization pretty nicely, if you're into that sort of thing. -
Forcefields, Cold, Sonic... I'll take whoever keeps the buffs fresh. In the long run, a level 2 Sonic who keeps the shields applied is just a valuable to me as a level 50 purped-out Cold or FF, if only to build a solid teaming relationship with a player that plays hard and plays smart.

I have a Elec/Rad and Elec/Cold Dom, both mid 20s at the moment, and both are pretty fun to play.
Rad is a super solid set, works great out of the box, and works great levels 1-50. The -tohit debuffs work very nicely to keep you alive while your in melee range, drinking all those milkshakes. Plus Choking Cloud works nicely with your other debuffs, and doesnt break Sleep.
Cold feels like more of a late bloomer. I haven't gotten some of the higher powers like Sleet (which I am looking forward to, esp.c since Elec's AoE immob doesnt prevent knockdown) and Heat Loss (which I am hoping stacks with Elec's -end for some brutal blue bar devastation.) Cold's other slows and debuffs dont break Sleep, which is nice. By the time targets DO wake up, they are feeble old men.
Refreshing shields is also a bit of a chore.
And yes, the set is very gentle on your endurance. This is the only troller primary I've ever played where i didnt need to take Stamina. -
Quote:Maybe it's more like Ninja Run's z-axis, where you can sorta "slide up" anything less that a 90 degree angle. This suggestion has been shot down several times in the past. It's a limit of the game engine - to implement this, they would need to remap every single zone, and every single instance to compensate for characters being able to walk up vertical surfaces. Furthermore, as I understand it, the end result would take more processing power to handle. This is also why we don't have a 'wall-crawling' ability.
So as nifty and as iconic as this would be... best to ask for something we have a chance (however slim) of getting... -
I'd love to see Flight get an Afterburner power- a toggle that lets you fly at x2 speed, but you can't turn. Maybe give it a cool Sonic Boom graphic.
I love the idea of a PBAoE Knockdown for Leaping. Feels like it should do that anyway, when you come in from a high jump.
I'd love to see Superspeed get a Z-axis movement effect. Maybe a Tier 5 auto power, so you can run up the sides of walls and buildings.
How about a Smoke Grenade style power for Concealment?
I like the idea of Placate for the Presence Pool. -
My Ill/Rad Puzzling Evidence can transform into various cryptids. When he becomes El Chupacabra, all his powers turn deep red for the blood he is exsanguinating and manipulation. And white powers for his Yeti form, etc.
My Bots/Dark mastermind Lu-C4 manipulates nanoswarms, hence the back clouds.
I wish I made my Earth/Storm troller after power customization. He would have been a poop wizard! Yes, I am gross.
Now I just need to figure out how to color Plant powers to look like candy, so i can imprison foes in licorice whips! -
Rolled a Claws/FA last night after reading this thread. Got "Heat Grinder" on a pretty good Praet PuG and hammered his way to 10 in about an hour, tasting floor only once, and giggling with delight as a Furied Spin cut down mobs like tall grass.

I went Psi as well. Once Fitness becomes inherent, I think I can finally close that tiny gap I have in my IW coverage.
I did take WoC, and slotted it with the purp set. If I'm going to be in the thick of it with HF and CC, I might as well add a third layer of PBAoE delicious. It's escpecially useful on the ITF, letting the traitors buff me and my team with Shout of Command rather than their own men.

Quick question- does the Rad power Enervating Field reduce a target's resistance to endurance drain?
Currentlly (the troller version) reads:
RES(All Types) -22.5% for 0.75s [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
Effect does not stack from same caster
Longer version- I have a 20ish Elec/Rad troller I am enjoying the heck out of, but I was just curious if Enervating Field reduces Endurance drain resistance in PvE. Or for that matter, does it lower resistance to other debuffs like Slow and -to Hit. Or is it exclusively for debuffing DAMAGE resistance? -
Personally, I never take the ST immob, but I team almost all the time.
I'm pretty surprised you couldn't find any Fire/Rad builds on this forum. There are A LOT of them. For a while it surpassed Fire/Kin and Ill/Rad as the most discussed combo, and it seemed like every other thread was a Fire/Rad question or build crit. Dig back a few pages or use the search function.
Seriously, search a little harder. There's Frad builds posted here for just about every play style. -
There's a long list of tasty confusion targets. A few of my faves:
Embalmed Cadavers
These will actually cost you some experience, when they wipe an entire mob of Vaz. A worthy sacrifice for the lolz.
Sorcerors
Hurricane and O2 boost on tap.
Shield Gens & Cairns
The only downside is rabid teammates will still hammer them like pinatas, even as they're getting buffed by them.
Shaman
I love watching them get floored by their own Earthquakes.
Knives
Caltrop me? NO! Caltrop YOU!
Grenadiers & Demolitionists
Boom.
Centurions & Praefetus Castorum
Getting demezzed by the enemy FTW. And for that matter, the Surgeons can be handy too.
Freakshow Tanks
Maybe another waste of Xp, but its so funny to watch him pound his buddies into the ground like they were nails.
I might be wrong on this one, but I think if you confuse a Cyst, when it explodes it will pretty much annihilate all the fluffies it spawned. -
Are these two powers pretty much the same exact thing? The only difference I can find is the level they become available.

If you get too concerned about "reality" and "immersion" in this game, you are either going to be greatly disappointed or really really amused.
The Mission Rep system was always pretty suspicious to me. I could go talk to some weirdo on a street corner, and they would instantly convince the ENTIRE CRIMINAL underworld I was stronger/weaker than previously thought, causing the powers-that-be to send more or less minions to the warehouse/office/cave/lab I was about to go bust up.
Or police drones. Paragon City has the technology to make legions of robots that can teleport anything from a zombie to a giant robot directly to prison. So what do you guys need me for again?
And here was a bit of metaphor shear; the other night I was on a PuG, and or mission was to Stop a Jailbreak. While in the cellblock of the Paragon PD, I KB'd a minion into a cell, through the solid door. We could not "arrest" this last minion because he was stuck in a police jail cell... -
Don't the Empowerment buffs also count towards the Crafting badges? I should go knock some out, I have like 30 pieces of Regenerating Flesh. Which is weird, because I only had 20 pieces last week...
-
A robust /ignore list can be just as valuable as a good SG or /friend list. I look at every bad encounter as an opportunity to make my future game experience that much more enjoyable.
-
The synergy from Elec and Kin, from what I can tell, is the endurance drain from Conductive Aura and Transference, but you wouldn't get that pairing until 35. That's a long wait.
I promised myself I wouldn't, but i too rolled and Elec/Rad, and it's pretty nice. The massive -tohit debuffs keep me safe in melee range, drinking up end. -
-
If Swift AND Hurdle come with the deal, that makes Ninja Run even more viable as travel power. That frees up another 2 slots in the 1-14 journey.
-
On my Fire/Rad, prolly grab Mutation, then a few Stealth powers to mule some LotG's.
I more excited for my lowbie toons. Grinding through the <20 levels has always been a chore, especially when you have to give up 5 powers (3 fitness, 2 travel) for your toon to ever be functional. No more wheezing for blue on teen teams! -
I love controllers. I'm a compulsive troller roller. I love the big picture management style. Let the damage dealers worry about the little stuff like actually dropping targets- as far as I'm concerned, once it's held, its dead... er, arrested.
I have torrid hot/cold love affairs with MMs. I've rolled almost every combo i could think of a name for, but I have a hard time enjoying anything that's not paired with /dark.
I like the idea of stalkers, but they are such a radically different play style. By the tiem I've gotten the hang of it all over again, my altitus calls...
Blasters and Scrappers are my cure for a bad day. Sometimes you just wanna deal some pain! >:-|
I like the idea of tankers, but they feel overly simplistic in play. Plus when I roll one I feel compelled to have my defense 100% shored up before I even begin to think about taking/slotting attacks. The results is a very sturdy but boring toon.
I'd play more Brutes, but that damn fury bar! I'm antsy and impatient enough as it is. Like hell you're taking a bio break!
Doms, Corrs, VEATS, all mildly enjoyable, but nothing that gets me enthusiastic.
Defenders... poor defenders. Maybe someday the devs will heal you!
Kelds... what the hell. A crap of all trades.
