C'mon, the games four years old and the UK isn't all that big. Game shops barely stock PC games anymore as it is and music CD's have dropped right off the radar too. I'm glad Cryptic isn't wasting the money on putting out a load of boxes that just aren't going to sell. Anyone here who wants a box is probably going to still hit up the Digital Download. Yes it sucks to lose the chance to own a box, but really is it that big a deal?

If people haven't heard about CoH by word of mouth yet then MMO's probably aren't their thing to begin with or they never really planned on buying it.

Now an advert on Steam or getting Penny Arcade to do a comic? That's worth a go, but don't demand they toss money away on something they've already been told is a bad idea.
Glad to know that Europe only exists in the form of the UK.

I'm not much upset about not getting the box myself but I am worried that everywhere I go I am the only one who knows what City of Heroes is while some other games with war(s) in their names are even known by my grandmother. And while a box would not necessarily mean an influx of thousands of players we have virtually no advertising at all in Europe and many potential players do go to the shop without planning ahead what to buy. (a lot of them don't but that's not the point). And Issue 17 and Ultra mode is perfect for showing of this old game with new graphics and cool new sets. Now it will be released in Europe without knowing about it and while I'm generally a positive thinker the population in Europe isn't very high and won't increase much and like Damz said, there are apparently no plans at all to do a server merge list or something else which could lead to more population.
  2. I mostly take some tutorial missions in the AE between levels 5 and 7. It gives enough xp and tickets which I trade for salvage which I sell so at level 7 I have a few 100k. Especially handy if I need stuff like wings or boots.

And I prefer Atlas to Galaxy, mostly for the look and that I can find my way there without looking at the map
  3. It's the rare form that only super people can use. (and even before the alternate animations you had cobra strike...which was some sort of a punch)

    I fully agree with this.

Which then would make RMT's to attach a small amount of inf to get this special consideration which would make the filters they just added useless.

I hope that if you can't send a mail you get a message that it can't be send and that you can take back your inf.
  7. But...if you set the option to friends only, can another character of yourself still be e-mailing the one with the friends only option?
  8. While I was not planning on getting the boxed edition I do think it's not a good sign that they won't even release a box in Europe. Because I would love to see City of Heroes back on the shelves.

    NCSoft Staff?

    Stuttering Craig?

(Nope, absolutely no clue, but he's the one I thought of when seeing that picture)
  10. A decent argument wouldn't include the sentence: So you think a terrorist who straps a bomb to their chest HEROIC?

Because you know the answer to that question already and it has no place in a discussion about HEROISM in a VIDEOGAME.

  12. I somehow had to think of this:

Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... A Thugs Mastermind.

I'd also like to quote Kyle Katarn: "No power is inherently good or evil, it's how you use them".

  14. Well...that's pretty lame they aren't going to put boxes in stores here in Europe. Yes...so you can get it digital, no problem for me but I already know this game, for someone who doesn't a nice box could be a reason to buy a game or remind people that yes City of Heroes does still exist.

    Ah well
  15. As much as I would love a Life time subscription to this game I think that in the long run this would be very, very, very bad for this game. Reasons stated by others who are so much better with words than I am.

And if you *did* play to lvl 50 so you can play the EATs, don't you think the devs would catch on that that's the wrong reason to play to lvl 50?

But IMO, I think lvl 20 is rather a shallow goal to unlock them. Why not a TF in the 20-30 range that has to do with something involving the Khelds? It'd make a lot more sense than just an arbitrary level.
I once met a Kheldian player who indeed played a character to 50 for a kheld...however he had played his "original" hero to become a kheldian. So, he basically had two of the same characters, one before the merge and one after. I thought the concept was pretty cool.

No, the problem is that someone decided to flanderise the concept and make the City of Villains a city of villains ONLY. Which makes no sense, since City of Heroes has more villains than heroes in it and yet no-one ever complains that, because there's no PvP, heroes never get to fight villains. They do. Because villains are on every street corner, in every alley, on every rooftop, in every park, inside every building and just basically all over the place.

Segregation and closed-options PvP aren't the problem. If City of Heroes is a city of heroes and villains, then City of Villains is a city of villains and villains. And villains. And THAT is the problem with the game design - single-minded, one-sided, short-sighted design that saw the villainous counterpart to the all-encompassing hero game be rendered with such needless limits. I've taken enough flak to shoot down a flying aircraft carrier over this, but I still say that City of Villains was designed to be too evil, too depressing, too run-down and with too many villains. The actual CITY in City of Villains didn't need to be that much different. Ideally, heroes would live in a crime-ridden city that needed their help and villains would live in a crime-free city that gave them opportunities to be evil. Realistically, both cities needed to have good sides and bad sides. Our heroic city has places where it feels like the heroes have won and only petty crime remains while other places feel like crime has taken over. Villains don't have that luxury. They can pick between dirty places where crime rules, dirty-ish places where crime rules or evil-looking places where crime rules.

To my eyes, Going Rogue won't really add all that much to City of Heroes, as it will add THE OTHER DAMN HALF of City of Villains that should have been there from the start - a nice-looking place to be evil in.
Wow, never thought of it that way but very nicely worded. I couldn't agree more.
  20. I like one. No, not a furry, but more options is always nice. And penguins are cool.
  21. I missed these threads...my week is good now
  22. It would certainly help to plan better. They don't even have to mention the specific area...just the zone would be enough for me.
  23. I feel your pain Samuel. Well not so much with this game but I can't play freaking Ghostbusters with English Subtitles and menu screens...they don't even give me the damn choice! To hell with localisation!

(I know, not so much to do with the topic but still a thing that frustrates me to end and seems more common nowadays(I'm looking at you youtube!).
  24. Hmm, not sure. Although I do see your point I rather have they find a way of having the tailor/respec/powerslotting/powerchoosing interfaces in a windowed version(with an option to go full screen if you prefer)
