Hopefully, I'd like to see alternate animations for all the powers.
Some ideas right now:
some kicks in the non-martial melees so someone can do a flashy martial-artist that uses some sort of technique that creates fire or lightning or the like. Currently, most of the non-MA martials are really good punch sets already, (which I like) but one or two kicks thrown in would be great. (targeted: fire, energy, electrical, dark)
more alternate weapons for earth, fire and ice (fire katana! ice axe! earth greatsword!) and don't say a greatsword doesn't deal smashing...a great frigging piece of rock shaped like a sword will probably smash more than slash
alternate animations for theme-heavy powers (the tentacles and skulls of dark mainly, I don't mind them for most of my characters, but for some...yeeeah)

Quote:That variation is fairly dark if only because the use of it fails to look at things in the long term.Rand, to my understanding, essentially stated that "Selfishness is a virtue." In her view, a person always acts out of self-interest; there is no such thing as altruism. The enlightened person is aware of this, acknowledges it, and proceeds to act in such a way to maximize their own benefit, which includes minimizing 'costs.' Acting outside of normal socially accepted bounds is permissible under such a thought system, if the subjective benefit outweighs the subjective costs.
This is frequently misunderstood, however. It does not say that you are allowed to run roughshod over others freely; it simply says that you can if the benefit outweighs the costs. A suitably powerful, rich and connected person can do things that an average person cannot, because they have the wherewithal to ignore the outcry of those below them -- the cost is not high enough to consider. In other words, the subjective repercussions of ones actions determine their legitimacy.
As a philosophy, that's pretty dark, though it goes a long way toward describing the corporate mindset.
If you weaken the people around you, you accomplish a certainty of two things:
a) said people will have less capability to help you in the case that you need help
b) said people will have less reason to help you in the case that you need help
Granted, individuals of greater resources can probably get away with ignoring the certainty for longer than others, possibly even to the end of their lives, but the fact remains that the long-term results of abusing others is that you suffer.
On the contrary, if you strengthen those around you then:
a) said people will have more capability to help you in the case that you need help
b) said people will have more reason to help you in the case that you need help
Now, granted, most of the reason I thought along those lines is that I got tired of trying to convince people that I behaved in certain ways because I felt that was "right" way to behave.
People tended to assume I was putting on airs of morality with certain tendencies and wouldn't leave me alone with trying to convince me that my behavior had no point. So I started looking for practical reasons for all my moral decisions.
THAT makes people leave me alone for whatever reason. -
A long time ago, I suggested a similar idea, a pair of alternate skinned powersets (similar to Katana and Broadsword) for Staff and Spear
Mine was more based around Asian staff/spear arts, which are somewhat similar (at least those spears with a simple point)
I think my 9th tier was a heavy-damage single-target self-teleport described a sort of pole vault into an enemy. -

....just that, simply put, just that.
Please stop making my souvenirs vanish into the wind. -
The realism makes it a more versatile tool and ADDS utility to the effect. Of course, added options does mean an increased learning curve. But now, with the same power, you can, with careful aiming, through everyone away, blow everyone toward you, blow everyone to the right, blow everyone to the left.
Used appropriately it becomes a much more useful tool with a lot more utility.
It would make my delivery blaster much more interesting to play.
But it's not a matter of utility vs realism, it IS a matter of practicality, which I recognize and accept this probably wouldn't happen, but still, I'd love if this were to happen. -
Quote:It's no less scattering than Hurricane, Hand Clap, Whirlwind, Repel and so forth, and those, used with skill, are very useful. All it requires is care in placing your attacks, which KB already requires.Having AoE knockback scatter enemies is a sure-fire way to make people stop using AoE knockback powers. Like, you know, Explosive Blast. It's not realistic, but then neither is punching a person from seven feet away, so I'd rather keep the utility over the realism.

Are there any pictures we can see somewhere as to what the demons look like?

I also can't get around being a villain for several reasons.
I know why some people think that villains and anti-heroes are "cool". It is because they perceive these people as breaking the rules and acting independently of society and the like.
Of course, in reality, while they are reacting negatively to the outside influences, they are still being driven by those outside influences. They're letting themselves be controlled by something other than themselves. There are very, very few villains that are acting out of Free Will.
Darth Vader is reacting to a desire to never be powerless again, his one major act of Free Will was shortly before his death.
Lex Luthor is reacting to the fact that Superman is more popular than he is.
Sauron is a slave to his own pride and fear of final destruction.
Most versions of the Joker are driven by a mental defect that makes it impossible for him to relate to people.
And so on.
Heroes, by contrast, look like they're bending to the will of society in general. However, the bounds of society exist for a reason. If you sit down analyze and consider your actions for their overall benefit, most of the time, you will find that the manner in which accepted society wants you to behave is the most efficient and effective way to behave. However, since loads of other people are taking the same action merely because "that's what you're suppposed to do" it tends to bury the people that are making the actions out of Will rather than expectation.
It's one of those cases where it is rather hard to tell whether someone is acting out of Will or not because so often the choice of Will mirrors the choice of Expectation (someone acted out of Will in the past to lead society that way, however).
It is very easy to do the selfish thing, the thing that benefits just you and only for the short term. It is very hard to do the right thing all the time.
Villainy is sort of like driving the wrong way down the highway for no better reason than because you were told not to. They're the ultimate victims of reverse psychology. And, eventually, their petulant attitude will catch up with them.
Personally, playing someone that is doomed to be caught in a metaphorical and spiritual head on collision is not my idea of fun. -
City of Heroes are superheroes. Super hero fiction is a side-type of fantasy. City of Heroes is fantasy.
For added clarification, the inclusion of "The Force" makes Star Wars a fantasy as well, even though it is in a setting that is more traditionally sci-fi.
Once you include magic, whatever you happen to call it, the story is a fantasy.
And I'm not talking about origins or what comic books call magic.
I'm talking about "he was in a nuclear blast and now he becomes a green-skinned berserker when he gets angry" or "he's a mutant, that's why he can ignore the laws of physics".
or hey, imagine this conversation:
"Oh, me? I become a animalistic monster that can only be killed by silver if I soak up enough moonlight, you?" "When I soak up light from a yellow sun, I can pick up mountains and fly faster than the speed of sound."
For the most part, superpowers are magic. Very rarely is there enough scientific backing for me to consider it sci-fi. -
So, I'm playing tank and have a day job power, frag grenades. I toss the grenade out to the furthest enemy I can see expecting the baddies to get knocked too me because I'm thinking real physics rather than what I've seen as an energy delivery blaster and an AR sniper.
To my brief surprise, followed by sudden realization and irritation, the baddies suddenly start flying BACKWARDS towards the place I threw the grenade. And suddenly I'm thinking I got one of those implosion grenades from Warehouse 13.
Which brings me to my suggestion: Is there anyway to make the KB of a targetted AoE consider the target as the source of the KB rather than the player? -
I am also a writer with a tendency to purchase art rather than making it myself.
But I'll encourage you in this. I don't think static stories are the right place for the RP forums, but I'm sure there's somewhere to post them, at the very least you could post a link to your DA submissions on this thread. -
Quote:and rotating targets.Eh, more complicated than that. If there are foes at range, Taunt can usually be better than running over to them. But yes, most of the time you can get more mileage from attacking a lot and keeping your aura going.
there is a place for taunt, however, and I don't suggest skipping it.
it is the only range you are CERTAIN to have access to for one thing, but it is slow and comparatively weak. -
in response, here's something I put together JUST before Ninja Run came out. It pretty much shows the same speed she gets now with Ninja Run even if it lacks the cool graphics.

if I can recover it from one of the dead computers, this might mean there's hope for my LL Cool J vid with my wereshark.
Nice vid btw, favoriting now. -
Quote:figured as much, but I tend to give people access to my gallery anyway. Can't help wondering if people actually read the thread (or even just latest few posts) or if they just see a title in jump in hoping for free artz....
No offense peeps but the post was 9 months dead until Juggy revived it... And if you look at his post, he didn't revive it to do MORE free art for people.... -
Quote:but gauntlet's isn't, 100% is much better than sometimes. Gauntlet is only auto-hit against normal foes, Elite Bosses and lower.Taunt's accuracy check only applies in PvP. Against NPC's it is auto-hit.
But normally, Gauntlet is better than taunt....assuming you rotate targets and don't make the mistake of focusing on one target at a time (scrapper's job). -
Quote:A tanks inherent: Gauntlet makes ALL your attacks into taunts, and taunt itself is not the most useful save against AVs and GMs.Should I taunt everytime it's up?
In some MMOs "taunt" or whatever it might be named can be used over and over again to continue generating aggro. Is that true for CoH or is it only really needed if you lose aggro?
Taunt is best used as a ranged taunt and as a range debuff to encourage foes to gather closer. Or as a tool against scattered foes as it has a 15 ft radius.
the formula is:
Damage * AT mod (4 for tanks) * AI mod (no info) * range mod (no info) * debuff mod (apparently usually 2 if a debuff is present) * taunt duration *1000
so taunt works out as follows if you take out the AI mod and range mod we have no info for:
1 (minimal damage modifier) * 4 * 2 * 41 secs (lvl 50) * 1000 = 328,000 threat
while jab works out as follows:
30.25 * 4 * 1 * 13.5 * 1000 = 1,633,500 threat.
Attacks with damage AND a debuff effect are even more effective.
Also, you'll want to put a chance for damage proc in your taunt as soon as you can find/buy/beg one. The reason is, if your damage procs and does even, say 30 damage, you just multiplied your threat 30 times.
Also, I'd suggest a taunt enhancement in every AoE power if you can fit it in.
However, Jab only has a little more than a 3 ft radius for its threat, meaning it's less likely to hit is maximum 5 targets while Taunt has a 15 ft radius making it more likely to hit.
The problem is in recharge and animation time.
Jab has a recharge of 2 seconds and an animation time of about 1.07 seconds.
Taunt has a recharge of 10 seconds and an animation time of about 1.67 seconds.
However, Taunt is very useful against AVs and GMs because it has a better accuracy against such targets than gauntlet does, much better.
As such for common situations its best to cycle through targets and attack a different target each time you make an attack so you can spread out the gauntlet effect as wide as possible.

okay, the numbers are fixed in the chart itself. though my examples are still using the old numbers. will fix later

Quote:the main point is that it is more important to have the right enhancement percentages than it is to have set bonuses until you're in upper level.I don't agree that's necessarily the best approach. Many, if not most of the sets IOs I slot aren't level 50--more like level 35-45. And because of ED's diminishing returns, it often doesn't give you much of an advantage to slot all level 50 IOs anyway. Plus there's the fact that although the set bonuses are the same regardless of level, lower level set IOs are often much cheaper than the top level of the set.
As it happens, many of the set IOs I use the most top out at levels 30, 35 and 40. If I have enhancement that I plan to include in my final build and it's in a level range I can slot, why shouldn't I slot it, especially if I can get the benefit of a set bonus? I see absolutely no advantage in waiting until level 50.
Frankenslotting until 50 is one approach, but it's certainly not the only one or even the best one, IMO, no matter what "they" say.
The reasoning is that once you're in the upper levels, whether through having more slots or the higher bonuses it is easier to get those ED maxed bonuses than it is at lower level.
it's more important for your resistances to have that 50%+ resistance enhancement than it is to have a set bonus and, given the lack of slots until higher levels, it is better to focus on just getting those percentages than it is to five/six slot things for a high end slot bonus or even four slot for things like Res and Def.
Save that sort of slotting for level 45-50 when you have some flexibility. Also, the high-end IO values allow more flexibility as well. And yes, I do use 35-40 IOs as well.
I especially like Red-Fortune which is best when at least five-slotted. -
Quote:In general, I've been told that you shouldn't really think about set bonuses until you're around the 50s.
Sadly this toon is currently lv1 while I spend all my time playing around with mids... When I get near an AV I'll let you know
The most important part of your powers are the enhancement percentages, so from 1-49 you should be looking at frankenslotting so that you can acheive max stats. Uniques and procs are almost always worth it, of course.
Once you get level 50, the IO bonuses give such high numbers that you can chase set bonuses without sacrificing your percentages. -
