Quote:I know I don't purchase Marvel any longer...or DC.It's how some people simply live with themselves by standing by an ideal. It can get bad of course, but as long as no one is injured by my choice other than the industry I am spurning, then there is no harm. Even then, unless enough people make the same choice, 1 person will not hurt the industry. I can just sleep better at night, and not go into frothing rages at Quesada's name.
But I still pick up comics:
Gold Digger, for the American list
and I'm liking Rumiko Takahashi's new book Rin-ne, looks much less saga-rific than Inu Yasha was, a step back to the Ranma days. -
Quote:Ahhh, I think I was confusing you with Hickman of Dragonlance "fame". My apologies to you for that, no one should be so compared.Lycanus, I say plug away! The worst that can happen is that it will be "disappeared." But I think if we can run threads here that are appropriate to the section (which this is) and which can help our CoH brethren, more power to 'em. And if I can help with the plugging, let me know.
P.S. I have no agent, unfortunately, and probably 90% of the "advertising" I get is what I myself create by being a ubiquitous and probably quite annoying figure on the internet.
Except maybe Greenwood (for fiction, not campaign design...his campaign design is awesome...fiction...less so)
Anyway, I put out a plug on this forum under the title "Bystander"
I actually have five books right now (three novels, a short-story anthology and a campaign guide) split across three world settings.
Bystander being urban-fantasy/superhero, Greenwater being High-Fantasy and Zodiacs being Wu-Xia Western. -
I have to say that I'm pretty much feeling like Oliver Twist asking "please sir, can I have some more" with the way I'm trying to get this and my other titles marketed.
I'm finding out all sorts of things such as:
a) book signings aren't just for established authors, apparently it's a good idea for people to build local attention....setting one up is proving easier than I thought to
b) surprise, apparently marketing my book requires me to get over the whole "I don't want to be a self-promoting twit" thing and actually telling people about the book.
c) large misprint runs suck (correction is made, money still gone)
d) paying Genzoman $300 for cover art results in a wonderfully BEAUTIFUL book
e) apparently, offering to advertise other people's stuff in the back of my book is now common practice...now I have to figure out exactly how to go about that....
f) kindle self-publishing is aggravating given the number of times I was frozen out for 24 hours, but at least more secure than offering pdfs
g) marketing is hard work...
Anyway, I still need to hit my break even point and while I've been talking about my experiences in self-publishing, I think I've forgotten links...
sooooo.....
DA Journal page
And for those wanting more direct links:
Kindle Purchase through Amazon
Print Purchase through Lulu
Prices are currently down at wholesale level to celebrate the release of Bystander, but I'm going to need to rise it back up to retail fairly soon.
and now the back-cover blurb:
**********************************************
Empaths. Superstrength. Kung Fu Masters. Petting Zoo People.
There is a word for people like that. A pre-packed fluffy-feeling word the governments spin doctors had come up with.
Peak.
Lucretia had her own words for her peer group: freaks of nature, science projects, and fanatics. They were all the people that had been born, transformed or self-willed into something that should have been bizarre, but was becoming less so.
All she wanted to do was live an unnoticed life in her brownstone, working at the library and chasing down idiot cops who took her books on stakeouts.
Of course, there are problems with that, such as the fact that she's considered an interesting research specimen by some of the more amoral companies. Her tendency to stick her nose in where it probably shouldn't be. A love-hate relationship with various alcoholic beverages.
Oh yes, and the fact that she's still on parole.
******************************************
And just because the cover art is sooooo beautiful (seriously, if you have the money, commission GENZOMAN now through deviantart...his country doesn't use paypal, but the art is SOOOOOO worth the extra effort of wiring the funds)

Quote:ah, my apologies then, I failed to note the humor, I'll try to be less defensive from here. It's a joke. Hickman loves plugging his work. The secret is to plug it in a charming and humorous fashion, possibly even ironically criticizing your own books. If the threads that held them still existed, I'd link some of The Pantsless Wonder's posts on the subject as examples.
tl;dr version: Yeah, plug away, just don't go all infomercial on us. -
Quote:heh, yeah, the Hyuuga martial style is called "Gentle Fist" I was going to use the translated version of Kurenai, but that's "Crimson" and I've got a Crimson already, so I took Gentle insteadohhh GENTLE!!.. well that makes more sense, excuse me for being a dirty old man.. last question would be if you wanted a summoned pet like Narutos frogs or not..
as for pet...hmm, don't think so in this case -
Quote:Gentle, not Genital, spelling corrected in quote(japan names are to be inferred if not spelled properly)
Gentle Spirals head-band on head or hanging around neck?.. hidden leaf logo on band?.. veined byokugon or just plain Uchia clan eyes (assuming thats Uchia clan) is she over 18 years old?.. and if so, how about her naked (( but not showing anything )) practicing forms with water under a waterfall like Hinata did during the filler episode where her and naruto and a few others tryed to capture a sniffer beetle? (still think it woulda been funnier if naruto had catched her in the act)
Over 18, yes
Hyuuga eyes, not Uchiha, but veined for in a fight, not for outside it
CoH doesn't let me do headbands AND hair, so assume she has it on somewhere, maybe around neck like her mother used to
and the water fall bit sounds good, perhaps to practice Rasengan instead
hair is Hinata's color (purple) but spiky like Naruto's -
And now I have two characters I started but haven't yet played much
Asuka the Blind Dancer
currently she's a fire/thermal controller, think I'm going to redo her up as a dominator. Yes, she's a bender.
Amaterasu's Eclipse
who I have rerolled so many times because I can't find a satisfactory way to do her...(no pistol + knife option yet)
And now that I think about it, I've tried to do this character several times since beta:
Ryoko Saotome
Ryoko-Usagi
Ryoko Full Body
And I played this character in a hard core team until she had to be replaced (there are a couple versions of her out there still)
Kuno Karasu
And this character from a next-gen fanfic I wrote inspired my longtime earth tank (who sadly I've grown relatively tired of) - note, I don't know who did this art, it showed up in my email box once back in 97 or 98. Back when I was writing Kitsune Lina/Slayers Born/Slayers Bred where the character appears
Amethyst Sword
Jhessail has showed up once or twice (if they give us dual club/mace, she's back in):
Jhessail Crackstone
One monstrous vampire hunter meets another = introductory hero fight
Jhessail
Oh, and Sa-Yoo, my copy of my scion character, has hit 39 or so recently:
Sang-Yoon Koga
And there is Shadowpact, one of my three dark/- fenders:
Shadowpact
though that is more precisely the D&D character Heigou that she comes from. -
ah, what the hey:

heck, this is pretty much a custom-made situation for my "here's my gallery, pick something and have fun with it"
http://thrythlind.deviantart.com/gal...acter-Profiles
you can go past the CoH gallery if you want...have a lot of stuff there. -
Look on the bright side, all this is happening during one of Scarlet Witch's imminently undoable reality warps.
All Marvel has to do is survive this era of Quesada nonsense and then some writer with brains can say "Everything that happened every happened because Scarlet Witch was on one of her acid trips, none of it happened, carry on with your regularly scheduled storyline."
of course...they have to SURVIVE Quesada first
I know I stopped reading Marvel or DC a LONG time ago because they do storylines by committee instead of going on to new titles when they hire a new artist or writer. -
Quote:unfortunately, in a situation where if I don't do it, nobody willAs Troy Hickman can attest, we hate it when authors Pimp their own works, like Troy Hickmans Eisner Nominated "Common Grounds", or his Top Cow Pilot Season winner "Twilight Guardian", both of which you can purchase at any fine bookstore near you. Or, if your broke, you can steal* from any fine Bookstore near you.
*LiquidX does not in any way endorse the cool crime of stealing.
self-published=self-marketed...but if it's not appreciated, I'll not do anymore than the sig
This is why I ask ahead of time, some sites are of the mind "Please yes! We want more stories to look for!" others are rather hostile to self-promoting as you seem to indicate. Granted, no one has ever commented on my sig before, so I thought it would be okay to ask.
Granted, I'd really love for my situation to be parallel to Troy Hickman's, but he's got an agent (I believe) and people advertising his stuff for him. I've got, well, me and word of mouth. My actual best trafficked site (ff.net) completely disallows advertising your own stuff, so I'm not able to really inform the 6k visitors a month there about my original works.
In any case, I thought I made a polite request for where this site stands on this. (I remember asking permission from one of the Red Names before putting in my Sig) And I was expecting a polite response back. -
Being a self-published author, would anybody mind if I posted a blurb about my books on this thread. I currently have them on sale and, well, word of mouth is my only avenue of advertisement currently.
Something more specific than the currently larger than it used to be sig picture that is. -
Options for 4th Tier Teleport that are cooler and more useful than Team Teleport and also not that hard to balance.
1 - Zone Teleport - really, some of us have about umpteen of these as options anyway as temp powers, just a zone teleport power that lets you port to any zone you have all the explorer badges for.
2 - Wayfare Teleport - teleport to a selected wayfare point on the map, ie: trainers, vaults, stores, allies
3 - Banish - T-Foe that targets a foe and sends him fifty to a hundred feet away from you, no need to target, just throws him straight back
4 - Blink - Toggle +Defense -
I think he's referring to the individual stories within an arch, which for a couple of archs *cough*Striga*cough* come in Random order making it so that people on the same arch ending up having to redo missions so other party members who did not get the right mission can end up getting it taken care of.

Well, as far as nicknames go...this forum is one of the only places I DON'T use the screenname I'm most connected to throughout the internet: Thrythlind
I can't remember exactly why I don't use it here, but eh, not worth it.
Anyway, eventually, most people cut my name down to "Thryth" in speaking to me. -
Let's see....
Will have to wait a few more levels...but...
Detective Crimson Rice team up with Oryo Ryoko
Crimson: You look a lot like my mom... -

Quote:we can't command them to perform emotes anymore?http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=117256 This guide is my personal fav to MM binds
or talk? -
Once, a long time ago, I knew how to make binds to give minions orders...but now, alas, I have forgotten most of that and find myself nearing a time when I'll be playing MM to a team and I need to have the control to avoid my pets being the cause of my team's death.
Can someone please give me a rundown of what the MM bind commands are? -
because I prefer cool and efficient single pistol style gunfighters to the gun-fu types (though that is amusing too)
two weapons is not instantly better
though I have also asked about an assault-style set (the dominator mix of melee and ranged) with knife and gun attacks -
Empty hand option.
If you have one hand empty, you can't take the other hand empty...
for those of us that want single pistol users and single knife fighters -
Quote:yes, they believe the females can be used offensively in the system, but that, somehow, the males can'tactually the general concensus is that there would be too many "Pimp" themed masterminds. and we all know there would be some but it would be nice to have. my 2 cents in a nutshell
my first mastermind was a satyr-ess who's backstory was essentially that someone hired a ninja clan to kill her and she unwittingly seduced her way through the clan until they served her...(the language of the back story was implication and innuendo, like a pre-censoring Bugs Bunny cartoon, you only get the adult-content reference if you've learned other things first...heck even post-censoring they mostly got rid of the violence and failed to note the sexual referencees)
I had several binds and macros to make the ninja worship her...
In addition, the character was "Satyr Nau" and her followers had a number of names to go with that. "Wil" "Satyr Nau" "Mustu" "Satyr Nau"
etc, etc
and really, as I've said, what I did was tame and rather easy to overlook
it is easily possible to do more of a chippendale or gigolo get up, especially with Thugs
so leaving out female minions doesn't really make sense -
I'd also like female minion models, but I know that's not going to happen, because, for some reason, they think that females can be used offensively while males can't
which is somewhat offensive in and of itself
