Yeah, I'd want to keep the characters I made, but realistically, the server farm required to keep all our servers and characters would be probably beyond the scope of what TonyV and contributers (even if he could get a lot of the old Paragon studios group together) could afford. That's my biggest fear in trying to keep the old.
Even if they get the IP and everything comes out roses, there'd probably be one or two servers, not currently existing, that we'd all have to start over on, with very limited updates. Not a horrible prospect, but frankly, one I'd be willing to exchange for Titan and whoever they can get from Paragon to create a whole new IP unbeholden to anyone. A game strictly for us, by us, from a Kickstarter drive.
The development team they've had has been awesome, and I honestly think with the woulda' coulda' shoulda' from them, I bet they'd welcome the opportunity to make something new with the same versatility and beauty that is our Paragon City.
Make no mistake, I don't want to lose Paragon (if that's possible) but I would gladly champion (get it.. I'm from Champ... never mind...) something that they might be able to do even better on their own, with nothing but love, donations, their dreams and ours, interwoven to make something even better than the sum of its parts that could go beyond what they could do for us here.
The only reason I mention this now, is because if everything else fails, the best time for them to hit us with this is either now, or to a lesser extent, close to the close. I guarantee whatever happens in the next three months, it's going to go by faster than we ever wanted it to.
Sorry, starting to choke up again. That's all I have to say.

Edit- Also understand that it would start small and have to grow like this one did, if they had to start over. But I gotta tell ya, I'd have the faith to wait it out. -
If anyone can do it, Titan network can, that much I believe.
If not, I suggest getting as many of the dev team together with them to do a kickstarter and make a new company/IP under the Titan Network banner.
Call it "Titan City" -
This is a pic of Wolf Bait and I. I find it appropriate

I have a number of times. I was kind of numb and dealing with it, until I read Steelclaw's Epitath and I've been off and on ever since. I'm man enough to not be ashamed to cry, though I'm usually the one helping keep people together during tragedy.
I've played this game 4-5 times a week without break during the 7+ years I've been here. I knew I loved the game, but I didn't know how much 'til yesterday. -
Crimson Sun on Champion Server, member of the Legacy Foundation, passed away last year due to complications from diabetes. I'll provide screenshots as soon as I can dig them up. Never got an actual picture of him.

Anything us unwashed masses can do to help, Tony, let us know. I don't know how successful you'll be, but but at this point you have all the moral support I and my SG can give you.
If worse comes to worse, maybe Titan can take what they know of the game and potentially make a new, smaller, version with a different engine to work with as its own new IP. Call it "Titan City" or something. I'd throw in for a Kickstarter of that. Use some of that kickstarter money to re-hire a couple of the programmers from City of to help recreate the feel of this game without directly copying it. Fates knows I bet they'd appreciate that. -
This theory has made the most sense so far, so it may not be NCSoft's fault.

Well if the rumors are true and the engine still belonged to Cryptic and was just leased to NCSoft, that might explain a lot...

Me too.
But if you want to salute Back Alley Brawler, he is in Atlas Park in the NE side... not sure off the top of my head. -
Well I hope they make a new one just for this. If nothing else I can dream that I'm making a new character...

Thank you for that story, Steelclaw. I've loved your lists and laughed along with everyone else.
I've shared this story with my SG and will keep a copy of it as the cap to my files on City of Heroes. What you wrote was how I felt when I read the news.
Thanks for the years of laughter, and for the last, sentimental tear to cap off some of the best years of my life so far, in a game, or out.

I signed it. I hope something happens to change their minds, or a solution is found, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. This whole thing just makes me heartsick.
-
Bait and I will be there. I'll put it up on our SG's MOTD too.
-
Sigh... I love my luv. You're not stupid, we're all upset over this. You should have seen the all the global channels earlier today.
(Bait's my wife, by the way).
Yeah, I'm really upset abut this too. I've been playing and with my SG for over 7 years now. Champion is my home when I'm on, and I'm sure you've seen some of my SG around from time to time, and even though we're rather quiet part of the community, many of us know a lot of folks that post here and play in Champion.
I'm hoping something will intervene between now and Nov. 30th to stop this, but am not counting on it.
Most of you probably only know me peripherally, but to all of you, thank you for all the wonderful times we've shared in this game. It's truly been an honor to be a champion among Champions.

Paragon, you guys don't have to be out of a job. Fight this.
Buy the property from NCSoft and let us pay you to keep the game running.
Do a Kickstarter, something anything.
If you don't know what kickstarter is, check it out...

I'd happily donate to keep the doors open. I think a lot of people would. You should at least try.
Maybe I'm at the 'bargaining' phase of grief... but it's worth a shot. This whole thing makes me heartsick. -
I... I don't even know what to say.
They can't even keep it running in maintenance mode or something???
Can a group (like the folks at Paragonwiki) have a chance to get the servers to keep it going?! I'd pay a kickstarter to help them get it!
At the very least make the code available so we could host our own "micro cities" for just our closest friends or something.
My SG's been together and solid for 7 years. I only know one or two face to face, the rest are all over the country. I have a SG mate in Afghanistan that won't even be able to see the close, and I'm not sure I have the heart to tell him... or any of my SG at this point, seeing as how I'm the one that keeps up with this stuff.
I'm sure this news probably hit Paragon like a punch in the gut like the rest of us, but... can't they do anything?
This honestly breaks my heart. -
I just get disappointed every time I think about all the cool stuff that some folks have never had the opportunity to get, like the power slide, the facepalm emote, or the wisps aura. The Kirby dots are another one added to the pile. I have all but the Kirby dots (and just can't bring myself to do twitter to get them). Also, I have no illusions to think I'd be lucky enough to win them in a random event.
Anything locked away from a player or group of players "forever" because they didn't start the game early enough, aren't inclined to social media, or just suck at being lucky enough to get the random reward, is just dumb in my opnion. Especially if they could make a profit off it by selling them in the market at some point.
Exclusive for a time is all fine and good. "Forever" in a game that encourages players to make any look for their characters, to fit any theme (except for this one thing because you suck nya-nya) just makes no sense.
Drop exclusivity. Let folks buy whatever they want in the market, even if they have to wait a while to do it. -
Why do folks see it as a personal affront if there's nothing they want on the market any given week? I just see it as an opportunity to save up more points so I don't have to buy more when the 'good' stuff I want comes out. That's probably part of the reason they do release powersets and costume packs a bit spaced out.
If they had something everyone would want week after week, they'd probably catch flack for trying to force players to feel like they have to buy more points instead of use their monthly points (for those paying).
*sigh* Times like this I don't think the Dev's could win no matter what they did. I can understand not having anything you (in the broad, general sense) would want any week, I just don't get why anyone would feel the need to be rude about it or call it a 'fail'. -
Quote:I'd really like that too.Or the devs could just make the badges like te anniversary badges account wide.

Do I think it'll happen? Nah, and it doesn't break my heart. Just think it would be cool though (says the guy with the almost full home server).
-
I'd like to be able to do it, if just for the fact that I have 3 level 50's on my main server that are the same guy in different suits of power armor. If I could have attached them to the same name, that would have been awesome! As it is, I have V2 and V3 at the end.
My main caveat would be that if you did it, that powerset combo/AT would start at level 1. You'd still have to level it up. I haven't PL'd a single character yet in any way I consider power leveling, and I wouldn't have traded that time leveling them for all the world (it was fun-that's the point!)
The advantages, as far as I'm concerned, would be keeping the same name/character with an easy change between builds, not requiring to log out. The other would be more server space. I've unlocked all the server slots on my home server, and they're slowly getting filled as more powersets (and concept ideas in my head) come up. I just recently transferred a Bow/Dark Blaster to another server because Water/Poision Corrupter fit the character better. I would have loved to just start another build of the same character with that different AT/powerset combo at level 1, and not lose the 31 levels I had on my Blaster (didn't lose it per-se, but I don't see going to that other server to play him any time soon in lieu of the new one I just made).
Other advantages would help players that finally found the 'perfect' powerset for their 'main' but couldn't get all the badges they had back (like anniversary, etc) while also allowing them to experience old (and new content previously unavailable) directly with those characters (actually having the contacts and filling them in, unlike in Oroborous).
Basically, this idea has merit, and shouldn't be dismissed out of turn. At the same time, it shouldn't be a 'free different 50 with no effort' option either. A character with new powers (or power armor) has to learn it from the ground up, like they did with their first one.
Plus I basically get more server slots out of it! That alone is worth something to me!
