  1. No, I don't have a custom log-in screen.

Yes, I've been checking my spam box. That was actually my first thought when I didn't get any further responses.

I had an interesting thought about what the problem might be. I won't be able to test it until later, and I feel really dumb for not thinking of this earlier, but I'm posting it here now anyway to see what you guys think. First, some necessary info:

I tend to play mostly higher-level heroes.

When one of my characters outlevels a zone, I usually go around and collect all the badges and plaques from it.

I usually skip hazard zones, but I tended to get the old Dark Astoria badges because the badge titles were cool.

I think you can see where this is going. I'm going to check to see if only characters with badges and/or plaques from the old Dark Astoria will crash. I know the character I tested the transfer back-and-forth with has them. Has anyone else noticed this correlation for their characters? Am I just crazy, or could this be the problem? It seems similar to other problems that CoX has had in the past, so...
  2. Okay, so I transferred the character back to Infinity server and...

she STILL crashes!!!! This is getting REALLY ANNOYING! I haven't heard anything back from tech support. I'm getting pretty fed up with this.

Edit: LOL just checked my e-mail; NCsoft sent me a survey about their customer service quality. *sigh*
  3. Paragon City will be doomed once Nemesis gets to step 17,389,026 of his Plot to Take Over the World.

Paragon City would be mostly doomed if heroes suddenly became allergic to spandex and wolf/lion fur.

City Hall would be doomed if the Atlas statue dropped its globe (bowling... and... STRIKE!)

Paragon City would be doomed if Blue Steel forgot to cover his nose when he sneezed.

Paragon City would be doomed if the Trolls lost all their Superadine and had to go cold turkey all at once.

Paragon Studios' patrons will be doomed (or at least slightly disappointed) if Steelclaw doesn't post a list in this thread.
  4. Here's something interesting:
I recently transferred a pre-I22 character from another server to my home server (Infinity). She hasn't crashed so far. She's only lvl 12 (was lvl 11 when I transferred her), and is still using the default difficulty settings, so there isn't much lag due to massive mobs and her missions aren't very long. Still, I'm hopeful.
I've transferred one of my main I22 characters to another server and made a nameholder on Infinity for her. I'm gonna leave her there for a day or so, then transfer her back and see if she still crashes.
No idea why this would work, but.... *crosses fingers*
  5. Okay, I reinstalled CoX, and it STILL crashed just like before.

Somehow, I don't think the problem is on my end....

    On a tangent:
I grew up hearing "man" as an dialog exclamation on TV, movies, books, etc. Like "Hey, man!", "Man, that was great!", "Man, did you see that?" Nowadays, I'm hearing the kids saying "son" instead and they sound so stupid. "Son" just doesn't have the impact as "man". And more importantly, I don't know how people not find that it sounds very demeaning while they're being referred to in such a way.
To continue this tangent, what "dialog exclamation" do you use?

Around here, it seems to be "dude", "man" and "bro" in descending order of frequency ("bro" is not very common at all). I use "dude" the most, and only say "bro" to bother my brother .
  7. T_Immortalus: I'm the admin on the new machine. I also have CoH set to Run as Administrator.

newchemicals: I did NOT make any new characters on the new machine prior to I22 release, which is one of the reasons it's so hard to pin down this problem.
Also, I couldn't find this: Users>"login name">appdata>local>ncsoft>cox>Visited Maps There was no "appdata" folder under my login name.

I've already contacted NCsoft tech support. I'm still in the "giving them more specific information as they request it" phase. I'm seriously considering re-installing the game to see if that fixes anything.
  8. I'm not a knucklehead, dolt.

    Yes.

And the character I created after the I22 update on the old machine did not cause a crash on the new machine.

Characters created prior to I22 cause a crash. I did not create any characters on the new machine prior to I22.

I guess this counts as a tl;dr version.

I may try that. I've been posting about this in another thread, here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=286163&page=3

I want to see what they say first. The results of the testing I did with my old computer vs. new computer are in that thread, but they seem to me to indicate that you're right, Schis.
  11. Just finished some testing: the old machine works okay; I get a little lag with it (and it can't run ultra mode at all, which is why I want to fix this so badly). Characters I made on the new machine work on the old one without causing it to crash. The new character I made on the old machine just today works on the new one. It seems to be just characters I made before I22 came out. Unfortunately, I didn't make any characters on the new machine prior to I22's release, but since the new character I made on the old machine worked just fine, I don't think the character's creation source is part of the problem.

I got the new machine just before the release of I22. As far as I can remember, it worked fine until I22 came out, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

T_Immortalus, I also tend to crash more often in places with more lag. Here's the task manager image:

So, how to explain the screenshot? Back to square one...

    Feather pieces!

Yes please! We already have fur and plants, so now it's time for feathers!
  14. I tried to repair from the NCSoft launcher. It didn't help.

I got a new computer just before I22 released, but I only made characters with it after I22, so it's hard to tell where the problem is. Given the responses I've gotten in this thread and others, the problem seems to be on my end of things.

I keep wondering if it has something to do with my old computer having Windows 7 32-bit and my new computer having 7 64-bit. I don't know why this would mess things up, but I'm going to try testing new computer characters on my old computer to see if they crash, and I'm going to make a new character on my old computer to see if it will crash on the new one. That should determine if it's an I22 problem or a computer problem, although I strongly suspect it's the latter.
  15. Disconnected as in "Lost connection to mapserver" and then it kicks you out?

What mine does is the screen suddenly freezes, then an error pops up saying "City of Heroes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down". Oddly enough, the characters are still playing in between the freeze and the error message (I know this because when I log back in they have less health/are defeated if they were standing in the middle of a group of enemies).
  16. Okay, I apparently didn't test this enough, because I'm still getting crashes. But only on characters I made on my old computer before I22. I haven't tried making a new character on my old computer and seeing if it works on my new one, or if characters made on my new computer will work on my old one. I'm going to try this tomorrow. I wonder if it has something to do with going from Windows 7 32-bit on my old computer to 7 64-bit on my new one, although I don't know why it would.

    *sigh* The plight continues.
  17. Like the title says, if I try to play any character I made before the I22 release, CoX crashes, seemingly at random. These characters were not crashing before I22 came out. If I play any character I made after the I22 release, it doesn't crash.
Is anyone else having this problem?

This is infuriating beyond words. I might as well start everything over, since I can't play old characters.

I've posted about this in the Known Issues thread as well, but since it seems to be an I22 problem, I thought I'd post here too.

I wonder if it has something to do with Windows 7 64-bit (on my desktop) versus 32-bit (on my laptop).

I've noticed a lot of bugs: doors going invisible & non-clickable, all the powers disappearing from my powertrays after using an elevator, enemies still being targetable w/a little bit of health after they're dead (says 'invalid target' when I try to use a power on them, this bug might be due to lag on my end), enemies or player characters that get knocked down freeze in midair in mid-knockdown animation (for player characters, /sync or using a power will usually get them standing again).

I still get random freezes sometimes (haven't figured out the cause yet, maybe using /sync too soon after the last /sync), but only on characters I made BEFORE I22. Post-I22 characters are fine, although I still have to /leaveteam between missions. I'm NOT going to reroll all my characters. Please fix this!

  22. HAPPY BIRTHDAY D_R!!!

+1 vote for Paragon Studios to hire you.

Also, if this actually happened, would your promotional video include a CoH reenactment of parts of the chariot race from Ben Hur? Because that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the PvP chariot racing idea.
  23. There's no way this is real. Having Gilbert Gottfried play a Ferengi would be way too perfect.

Also, the Ferengi weren't encountered by the Federation until the 24th century.
  24. So I mentioned the problem I was having in the Known Issues thread, and it turns out that it wasn't even my computer's fault. It's a problem with the team status update issue. T_Immortalus told me to /leaveteam and it works, so thank you! And thanks to everyone for helping out.

For once, it's not my fault . Technical ineptitude FTL.

It works!!! I gotta /leaveteam after every mission, but it WORKS!!!!

The freeze/crash was so game-breaking and frustrating. I can't thank you enough, at least not without scientific notation, so (Thank you!)x10^42 [cuz 42 is The Answer, after all ].
