  1. That is a sweet piece! Congrats Hericane.

No problem, Angel. I haven't seen PaintShopPro so I can't say for sure, but I kinda doubt the Painter tutes will apply directly to anything else, because they go into the brush engine(very complex) and layer modes(similar to, but not the same as Photoshop) in Painter and such.

Oh I forgot to mention, Painter XI is coming out soon!
  3. Wow, it sounds like an ambitious project. Good luck! Sad to hear that you are leaving, though.
  4. I posted these links in another thread, but I think they belong here too.

www.cgsociety.org - They have great forums. I especially like the anatomy section, but watch for artistic nudity.

www.conceptart.org - Similar to CGSociety. They have awesome sketchbook threads by amazing artists.

http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=29807 - The most awesome speedpainting thread ever! If you need inspiration, you will find it here.

    http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=...mp;view=videos - Bobby Chiu's digital painting videos.

http://itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm - A great general art lesson. I love the illustrations.

    http://www.chrisbeatrice.com/a_tutorials.htm - Walk-through tutorials on great paintings.

Here are some links that I've found helpful/inspirational.

www.cgsociety.org - They have great forums. I especially like the anatomy section, but won't link directly because of artistic nudity. This particular thread is on getting used to working with a tablet. I'd say start from here, but there are many more tutorials and workshops.

I could dig deeper to find some more, but I think these should keep your husband busy for a while.

    Hi there,

I only got to try it out for a few minutes, but GIMP looks like a nice free alternative to Photoshop. Does your husband have a tablet? It is almost essential for digital drawings, since drawing with a mouse is like drawing with a brick. When I bought my Wacom Intuous3 tablet, it came with basic versions of Photoshop and Painter. You can also download a fully functional, 30-day trial version of Painter X from here. Hope this helps.

P.S. I could also post some links if he needs help with where to get started with digital drawing/painting.
  7. Hey guys, appreciate the comments! If anyone is interested in trying out digital watercolor in Painter, I found a really nice set of custom brushes here. I bought a book on traditional watercolor this week, and it wasn't until I found these brushes that I really started making progress, although there are some effects I can't replicate very well yet.

I am still too intimidated by traditional watercolor to try it, but it would be funny to pick it up later and try to relearn the things I am learning in Painter now...

    FanArt Wars 2009

Hi, this sounds like fun. Is there a thread for last year's? I would like to know what kind of themes we will be given. I checked back to page 40 and did not find it, and of course the search option didn't help. Do people sign up each month, or do they sign up at the beginning of the year and keep getting eliminated till there is only one left?
  9. Oops, I had forgotten about my pirate alt. Here is Penguin Dirty Feet. Squaaargh!
  10. I had no idea today was Talk Like a Pirate Day, but I just happened to do a couple of pirate costume studies yesterday. Maybe there is a pirate in me!

These are digital paintings, not screenshots, so I am obvisouly not entering the contest. Ref from costume websites I found through google image search. First one is a straight copy. For the second one, I came up with my own pose, but tried to fit the costume from reference image in that pose.

  12. That is such a sweet birthday present!

    New CoH/CoV Art

Looking great. I am not sure if it is just me, but when I try to look at your deviations in full size, all I see is a red X box. Spidey looks awesome even zoomed out, though.
  14. That is a great cover! Looking forward to seeing the last one.
  15. That is a very cool idea to turn three roughs into a page from comic book. Congrats on the piece.
  16. Lol, love that rug and Redbull cans. Very nice!
  17. Hi all,

It took me a while, but I finished my piece for Comrade_Hero. I am finally starting to be deviant, and the Comrade Hero and Graviton Girl piece is here. Comments welcome as always.
  18. This is a gift art from Comrade Hero by gammaknight . She is my dark/traps corruptor. I love how he used triangles in the composition, because Time Killer has pointy shoulder armor, cape and helmet. This is the first piece in my art collection, and I am very happy with it.
  19. Wow, awesome new pieces. Love the mood in Aranos X. Great job!
  20. Love the style. Very neat!

    Feedback?

Wow, nice texture! I like how you rendered different surfaces. And that effect on the swords is very cool.

I am no expert, but here are some areas I think could be improved:

-The lower back part of the ribcage seems to be sticking out too much.

-Maybe his butt should be higher? His waist seems too long.

-His right arm has sharp details and very clearly defined edges, more so than the left arm. It is the opposite of how the wings are treated where the right wing almost blends into the background. I think depth information is a little confusing when looking at both arms.

-I am not sure about the placement of his right arm. I am trying to guess where his right shoulder is and want to say it might be too low, but maybe it has to do with the shoulder/neck issue others have mentioned.

Ok, I was just being picky as usual. I checked out your DA gallery and portfolio, and they are very impressive. Looking forward to seeing more!
  22. Wow, those posters are amazing. I wouldn't even know where to begin to fit all those characters in.
