We already know if the Devs had their way they'd probably try to figure out a way to make the workaround NOT work. Clearly they tolerate it because as you say there's no real harm in it. But likewise since they DON'T really want it to happen there's no motivation for them to make it any easier either.

Sure you could use the argument that they might make a little money by selling tokens for this. But our Devs have a long history of standing by their own principles for their vision of this game regardless of opportunities for quick profit. We may not like their position on this but it is refreshing to know they are willing to stand up to what they believe regardless.

Besides we also know that CoH:Freedom has in general given them a boatload of cash in recent months so it's not like they have to exploit every last way to make a buck. My guess is they are going to be willing to lose out on this opportunity. *shrugs*

Yes, this is probably the best "workaround" for this problem at the moment. But ironically as long as workarounds like this exist the Devs will likely be that much -less- motivated to ever make this any easier.
  4. I've seen this kind of thing suggested for years and it'd probably be as workable as other "offline SG invite" ideas have been. Unfortunately the Devs (the "TPTB") have specifically told us on several occasions that they consider supergroups to be "group content" and have arbitrarily opposed any new feature that would make them more convenient to single players or offline players.

It's always possible that they'll finally be convinced that their mindset on this has been needlessly contrary to what most of their players want. But until that happens I'm not going to expect anything like your idea to happen in this game.

With Parkour/Freerunning you would climb, use pipes and over passes and anything else used in Parkour/Free running, not just move fast over things like Ninja Run.
To their credit the Devs of this game have done a pretty good job pushing this game engine to its limits over the years. You have to remember this system is now 9 or 10 years old at least because you have to figure much of it was in place at least a year or two before it officially launched back in April 2004.

Still it has its limits, and one of those limits is how our characters interact with the environment. When you think about it there's really not that much we can actually touch or grab in the game. That would severely limit what you could do with something like Parkour. This is why all of our current travel powers are basically "independent" of the surrounding environment and probably explains (among other things) why we haven't gotten things like "vehicle-oriented" travel powers either.
  6. Yeah it'd be a cool travel power but it would likely be an animation nightmare for the Devs, assuming it was even possible in this game at all.

The Devs already had to compromise with powers like Walk and Rocket Board because of animation limitations. This is why those powers specifically prevent most other powers from being used because they either couldn't or wouldn't make all the standard combat and emote animations work with them.

Parkour movement would require all sorts of hand and foot contact with all sorts of surfaces that we currently can't really interact with anyway. Like Aett_Thorn said I think Ninja Run is going to be the closest we get to this.
  7. Sounds like you might be dealing with an alignment issue. Vigilantes can earn credit for redside Day Job badges but you have to be a Villain or Rogue for those badges to actually "trigger" once you've finished them. If that's the case it's not a bug - it's WAI.

This is easily one of the top five all-time suggested suggestions this game has ever had.
I've literally seen this tossed out there dozens (if not hundreds) of times over the years.
The Devs have repeatedly acknowledged that they know we've wanted this for years.

Sure it's a shame the Devs haven't figured it out yet.
But for this game this thread is the quintessential example of "beating a dead horse".

    Welcome to the game.

As others have said the impact/effect of Origins have evolved over the history of this game. Like Jagged said individual players will always have their own interpretations of what the Origins mean to their specific characters. This is why trying to assign specific in-game advantages and disadvantages like yours has been actively (and wisely) avoided by the Devs.

The only way ideas like yours would ever be acceptable is if the Devs allowed for Origin respecs. Frankly I'd hate to have new effects retroactively imposed on my characters without my ability to choose. It might work (like Aggelakis said) if they gave us a system where we could choose from any of these effects without being locked in by a specific Origin, but after almost 8 years that kind of thing seems doubtful.

Bottomline Origins should only really be considered as a guide to roleplay or character concepts.
Locking new in-game effects to them would likely only upset as many people as it would help.

Nothing wrong with Tron in general, but it's not really "retro" either unless you're young enough to consider anything from 1982 to be old enough to be retro now. Let's just say I wouldn't mind a Tron-ripoff here as long as the retro stuff is taken care of first.

I like it and I'm glad you're considering it, but that particular "jetpack" is much more than just a backpack-sized device. The pilot literally straps into it and flies it like a miniature helicopter. It's much larger than any of the other backpack-based temp flight powers you've done so far.

If you seriously managed to replicate the appearance of this device then any argument you might have against being able to give us other vehicles like motorcycles will make absolutely no sense.
  14. Option A looks the most like a retro space suit. Option B's glowing lines would make it look too much like Tron, and option C looks a little too much like powered/robotic plate armor than a space suit.
  15. Hard choice - just about the only one I really -didn't- like was D because it looked a little too plain.
I voted for A just because it looked a little more "plausibly realistic" and less "random open holes for no reason" than the rest. *shrugs*
  16. I went with option D. Options A and C somehow look a little too much like modified hairdryers and while option B had the "retro" fin I think that probably makes it too limited as far as general costume concepts go.
  17. I've got at least one character that's been waiting literally 7+ years for some kind of rocket/jet pack costume item. Sure there are plenty of temp powers that can substitute for it, but getting one as a costume item will be awesome.

I voted for option B because that'd probably be the most widely versatile one but I'd be happy with A as well. Getting option B with and without rings would be good too. Option C looks a bit more like strapping a cartoonish bomb to your back than a rocket pack, but as I implied above I'd probably use it regardless.

After looking at option A I was thinking that if the pylons actually slid back into the pack when standing on the ground that would be really cool. That way it would look more like option B when not flying - the pylons would pop out only when in flight.
  18. I voted for option C for the versatility but I'd probably be happy with B or C. For some reason the detail of option A looks a little bit too much like an old-fashioned diving helmet to me.

    Chainsaw Melee?

I mean, we already have guns & swords but we don't see any blood shed or limbs getting chopped off.
Eh, guns and swords with no obvious blood is sort of workable/acceptable. Sure it's not completely "realistic", but at least you could potentially shoot or stab someone without showers of blood from every single hit. On the other hand swinging a chainsaw at someone almost always includes severed limbs and/or gallons of blood flying all over the place. Frankly if we couldn't have realistic gore with chainsaws in this game I rather not have the chainsaws at all.

I guess what I'm saying is that the idea of "bloodless chainsaws" are just a bit too unrealistic to be worthwhile.

    Chainsaw Melee?

Well just think of the classic comic books when it comes to this game. They had plenty of zombies and women wearing nothing but "painted on" spandex but they rarely had overt blood and gore. They certainly did not have the "animated gore" you'd be able to have in a video game like this.

Once again I wouldn't mind a more violent and gory version of this game myself. But just like how Hollywood usually tries to keep movies from being R-rated just to get more families to go see them I figure this game probably tries to avoid too much gore just to keep parents from complaining too much. Silly parents.
  21. This game has a long history of coming up with unique costume items that are only usable by NPCs. Sometimes they restrict them like that just to make the NPCs special/different from player characters, but other times they do that because the costume parts in question are just too weirdly shaped or animated to actually work on the player character models anyway.

In recent times the Devs have become more aware that players would like some of the options that used to only be allowed to NPCs. This is how we got things like the Circle of Thorns and Carnival costume packs. We'll probably get more options as time goes on, but it's a safe bet there will always be some items we'll never get.

    Chainsaw Melee?

It wouldn't bother me to see something like a chainsaw melee powerset. But given that this game has pretty much managed to avoid anything even remotely blood and/or guts oriented I doubt we'll ever see something like that here. Having bloodless sword attack powers is "unrealistic" enough but having bloodless chainsaws would look pretty weird.

This game is technically rated "Teen" but clearly they want it to be as "kid/family" friendly as possible. *shrugs*

The main problem with the Devs trying to use this as an excuse against Player Housing is that theoretically every player can already go out and create a 1-character SG base with every character they can make now. What's the difference?

Now of course from a software engineering point of view the chances of every active player going out tomorrow and creating a brand new SG base for all of their characters is admittedly extremely small. So small that it's entirely possible that this game, right at this very moment, lacks the disk storage space to handle such unlikely event. Still, trying to claim that Player Housing is specifically impossible for that reason alone is somewhat disingenuous when you consider the Devs have never overtly claimed that being able to create SG bases for everyone would also be impossible for the same reason. Again I'd ask what's the difference?

Frankly I think the Devs need to do better than to use something like this as convenient excuse. Clearly if that "other game" has managed to provide this feature for its players then it would not be impossible to implement here. Yes it might actually cost the Devs money for extra hardware, but on the other hand they do have the clear potential to make money from a long-wanted feature like this regardless.
  24. Some prices may go up, some may go down, and some people will probably make a lot of INF riding the wave of transition from the current market status quo to whatever the market is going to become. But a year from now when everything is settled down again there will be various cheap things and various expensive things all over again and ultimately very little will be different about the market as a whole.

I've already made more billions than I'll ever use - I'm not going to let it bother me much either way...

Or more accurately it's the very definition of the word 'compromise'.
Everyone both wins a little AND loses a little, depending on your point of view.

For the record it actually doesn't bother me that they finally made some of it for sale, but likewise it doesn't bother me that you still have to play the game to earn some of it too. I suppose that means I don't fit into one of your "realistic" camps. *shrugs*
