Regardless of the time of day it's still going to seem a little bit strange that they got caught flat-footed in the bar without some reasonable explanation. We can assume that Rick firing his gun might attract Walkers so one would think that the smartest thing they would do is just leave immediately after killing the two guys. For some reason (according to the preview) they stay in the bar long enough for other people to arrive.
Either those other people were already literally waiting outside for their friends as soon as they went into the bar or Rick and company strangely decided to wait around to get caught there. Either of those possibilities just seem a little too contrived to me. *shrugs* -
Quote:AWESOME! Congrats, that is very cool. I tried with probably 300 packs on Beta to get the wolf and it never showed up for me. Good to hear ya got it so early and that the odds work like that.
Of course you know you are ruining these complaint posts with that right? -
Quote:Eh, I don't really hate that the Black Wolf is super rare or that it might take the average person a few hundred packs to get it. I just don't like that there's no ultimate guarantee of EVER getting it.Congrats TA! I can't think of a more worthy guy to be able to say, "FIRST!" Maybe I can join you later today.
It'd be nice to know if there was something in the code that said "if you've bought say 500 packs and still haven't gotten the Black Wolf, then your 501st pack will automatically give it to you". I wouldn't even mind if the Devs decided to keep that threshold number a secret just as long as they could tell us that something like that exists.
The uncertainty of possibly -never- getting it is what bothers me about it. *shrugs* -
Quote:Sure I understood that. My point is that not only is there still that 10% chance (after 100,000) that you won't get it but there's also technically a chance that you could get it after the first pack.I think the point Katie was making was that if you want a chance of closer to 90% to get it, buy 100,000.
Obviously there's a way you can improve your odds, but there are -no- guarantees either way. Ultimately I was sort of making a little joke about it because even though I want the Black Wolf I don't really want to spend hundreds of dollars for it and -still- not get it.
At least I could go to eBay and directly buy that Black Lotus if I wanted to... -
Right and I'm not counting on being as lucky as that guy I mentioned in beta either. I guess if you have to roll like 1 in an 1000 to get it it may always still be possible to get it sooner than later anyway. *shrugs*
Again I just don't like the uncertainty... -
Quote:That'll get you, at best, a 50% chance at one. For reasonable levels of certainty of getting one, you're looking at around 100,000 points.Quote:Good luck, I dropped right at 6k points for 94 packs and didn't get the black wolf. And only got one full set of scrapper ATIOs.
Still, it is annoying to have no real certainty about it regardless. -
Quote:Yeah the preview doesn't really make that much sense if we are to assume the two guys Rick blew away were scouts for a larger group. It almost seems like Rick, Glen and Hershel just decided to wait a few hours for the rest of their group to show up. Hopefully there will be a good reason for why they waited so long in the bar.If they're using the comic as a basic skeleton while putting their own spin on certain elements, I can see the scouts as being part of the Governor's group. They may have said the base was overrun to dissuade visitors because they're using it for supplies/shelter. Also, an attack by some of the Governor's people on the farm could be what drives them to leave and discover the prison.
I'm wondering why in the world Rick, Hershel, and Glenn stuck around the bar, since in the previews you can see it was nighttime or at least dusk when they're having to hide and fend off the scouts' buddies.
Despite that I do agree that what we may be seeing is the TV show's introduction to the Governor's group in some form or fashion. -
Well at least I can now plan to blow 10,000 Paragon Points to get the Black Wolf tomorrow then.

Quote:Well he did play Rene the Serial Killer on True Blood so even if he had become a regular character it was a reasonable bet he would be a bad guy and get killed eventually.I didn't know who the actor was, but even his five minutes on screen impressed me more than 90% of the other actors on this show have in the last season and a half. I expected to get at least a few episodes of tension out of those two.
The fact that he only got like 10 minutes of screen time was pretty cool from the point of view that we can no longer passively assume anyone we ever see on the show will automatically become a new "regular" cast member. The next new person might be around for the next 5 minutes or the next 5 seasons. It drives home the point just how random life has become after the ZA. -
Quote:Sadly we know history is becoming distorted and misunderstood by much of today's youth. I suppose I'd almost rather have people thinking Lincoln was a heroic vampire hunter than not know him at all. *shrugs*Not really seeing a downside to that. If Lincoln was a vampire hunter that means vampires were behind slavery.
Anyway watching this trailer I couldn't help myself get a big cheesy grin on my face. Like Iron Sky the "re-imagining" of history in this case looks to be totally ridiculous. But somehow despite the silliness they both seem jump into full bore into their premises and aspire to some kind of transcendent "Army of Darkness" type coolness that few genre movies manage to obtain. I hope they both live up to their twisted takes on history. -
I never even realized that dagger she wears was supposed to be Excalibur.
Maybe she only got the broken half of it after Arthur shattered it against Lancelot. -
Quote:I figured the moment the one guy said "I got this gun off a cop" that Rick's spider-sense started tingling that these guys were not good guys. You have to figure that after the Zombie Apocalypse happened it probably wouldn't really matter where anyone would've gotten any gun. But for this guy to stress the point that he "got it from a cop" meant that he probably thought it was cool to have found (or even made) that cop dead. The guys in the bar struck me as more desperate than evil, but it looks like we might find out more about their motivations next week. I was a little concerned that the discussion about Fort Benning and DC, etc. was going to be an excuse to have the group stay put at the farm for the rest of this season, which I'm sure would be good for the budget, but I'm not so sure about the viewers.
Let's just say as soon as he said that and Rick responded with "I'm a cop" I knew this encounter was not going to end well. I didn't quite think that Rick was going to shoot them dead a few minutes later but still. -
Quote:It does seem rather odd they're all acting like her sudden illness is a "mystery" that they think Hershel will be able to fix.So, uhm... am I the only one who's asking why they haven't checked Beth for bite/scratch marks? Burning fever is one of the signs, right?
For that matter it always seemed odd how causally they all treat touching the zombies in general. All I know is that if I found myself in a Zombie Apocalypse and I wasn't 100% sure I knew exactly what made normal people turn into zombies the last thing I'd do is touch them with my bare hands if I could avoid it. -
Quote:I've always been willing to let the TV characters evolve within their own setting. The guys making the TV show have always said that they don't consider the comic book to be "strict canon" for what they are doing anyway. Finally protecting the group, functioning as the leader they desperately need. Versus, the previous part of the season where he was more concerned playing the peace maker between groups. And before that (Season 1), trying to run from his obligations as a leader. I realize Darabont loves (loved) the "Slow burn" build up in character development...but it nearly ruined that character. Hopefully Mazzara fixes those kind of issues in the future.
Sure it's nice that TV Rick has been moving towards understanding what he needs to do to be the "leader" of the group, but I saw that same parallel growth of the comic version of him too. Obviously both media have the characters moving at their own pace, but frankly I always thought in many cases the comic moved too fast and glossed over the most important points in just a few panels that lacked the detail the TV show can provide.
Ultimately I'm not saying I like either the TV show or the comic book absolutely better than the other. But I'm accepting of their collective strengths and overlook their unique weaknesses. *shrugs*
Quote:The Philly guys were something specifically for the show. The "What We Become" arc has some interaction with raiders, but it plays differently. Similar end though.
For what that's worth they've been pretty much dropping hints that Carl isn't going to have a "normal childhood" since the first season. What we saw of that in last night's episode was just the latest bit of that development. -
Well it's been roughly a year but I'm finally back in the Done Club. A great league finally helped me get the Avoids the Green Stuff badge from the Keyes Trial tonight. Sadly I wasn't in-country back when the Keyes Trial first launched so it's been hard finding other people even trying for it since then much less succeeding. Still, it's great to be done regardless.
-
Quote:Not really sure what TV Rick might have had to be "redeemed" for, but it seems fairly clear (especially with what happened during the last couple of minutes of tonight's episode) that both versions of the character are following parallel development as far as what they are willing to do to protect the group.Rick has been partially redeemed, as a character on the television vs. the comic Rick, in my eyes.
Let's just say we can only hope that 20 years from now they won't re-edit this episode the same way Lucas re-edited the Solo-Greedo encounter. -
Quote:I don't think I can actually recall precisely what Lucas' "explanation" for this Han Solo edit ever was. But that's OK - had Leonardo da Vinci ever decided to go back and put a mustache on the Mona Lisa I probably wouldn't have bothered to listen to his revisionist "explanation" for doing that either. *shrugs**cough* While I can understand a certain backlash of changing (if only in presentation) what is still a classic, I think the change is understandable once explained by George.

Quote:No... in the greater scheme of things this quibble doesn't really matter all that much in real life. But that "tiny section of a completely fictional story" establishes the fundamental nature of a core character of one of the most beloved trilogy of movies ever made. That in and of itself makes it worthy of at least some critical discussion even years later.I.....seriously. What.
Does it really, REALLY matter who shot first in a tiny section of a completely fictional story that's however many years old?
Yes, I love the original trilogy. It's probably a big part of why I love sci fi as much as I do. But....this boggles even MY cerebral circuits here. I can get really intense about the smallest of things (anyone listening to Union RP channel when we discuss game stuff should know that...)
So.....yeah....we know this is Lucas. What else is new?
Edit: Just watched the link. And yeah, he shot first. Even if Lucas changes it, so what? Han's still a badass.
Those few seconds reveal to us exactly the kind of character Han Solo is. Han shooting first told us that he was a savvy and street-smart rogue who was cool under pressure and able to take care of himself in a dangerous galaxy. Letting Greedo shoot first only leads us to think that Han is weak-willed and unprepared to deal with serious stuff.
Sure even after Lucas's ill-conceived change we can eventually see in the rest of the movies that Han is a badass. But in terms of establishing the character the idea of letting Greedo shoot first completely dilutes and confuses that for absolutely no useful purpose. -
The pacing of the second season of the show was a little slow, but not overly much. I think they spent maybe a total of 2 shows worth too long at Hershel's farm. I hope they do tweak the pace of season 2.5 up a notch, but I also hope they don't read too much into this criticism and over-correct in this area. This show has a very strong and detailed story - if I had a choice I'd rather its pacing be a little too slow than too fast.
-
Quote:Yeah I've always thought it was very sad that Lucas may have been retroactively worried that Han shooting first would make people think he was a "cold-blooded killer".How is defending one's self from a guy with a gun pointed at you being a 'cold-blooded killer'?
No, Mr. Lucas, we don't want Han to be a cold-blooded killer, we just want Han to be quick-witted and *smart* to shoot the guy before possibly getting shot himself.
You just want Han to have super jedi reflexes to dodge blaster shots at point blank range. >_>
Clearly Greedo was the bad guy in the encounter who was getting ready to kill Han. Han being cold-blooded? Hardly. It couldn't have been a more straightforward case of SELF DEFENSE if it tried to be. Han's preemptive action established that he was quick-witted and cool under pressure - exactly what he was SUPPOSED to be for the story. Had Greedo actually shot first in the original version it would have left me thinking Han was a weak-willed idiot.
It's not a question of Han -wanting- to kill Greedo - he had to in order to save his own life. There's nothing "morally" wrong with that at all. -
Quote:I've never really understood why any of the Kryptonians would have to have good muscle definition at all. They have superpowers based on solar radiation not sheer human-oriented muscle mass. Frankly I wouldn't really have a problem with Power Girl or even Superman looking as "not-built" as Supergirl does. Sure it might not be as appealing from some kind of abstract Herculean ideal, but I don't need these folks to be ripped/toned to have "believable" super powers.I like it. I would have liked her to be more muscular. Unlike Supergirl, who can get away with looking demure, Power Girl should look powerful, confident and fully in control. She can do that in this costume just as well as any other (maybe better than some). I wonder if George had to rush that piece. He usually has a great eye for detail, but he barely gave her any muscle definition at all.
While I may think that Power Girl lacks her visible strength in that cover art, I like the costume and think it does her justice. -
I think it looks alright more or less.
But like most superheroines this new look is still not much of an actual "costume".
She's basically just another nude female inked with a non-flesh colored latex/spandex unitard to "simulate" clothing. -
Quote:My top two badging characters settled into being Vigilantes like a year ago for situations just like this.Wow, sounds like they're giving more reasons to be vigilante or rogue alignment.
I consider this one more minor concession for not being able to get Alignment merits. -
Pretty sure a Snaptooth by itself is not enough. You have to run a Ganymede or Scratch in order to make either of them trigger a dialogue response that leads you to DJ Zero to make him specifically talk about the V-Tips.
