The Devs (collectively) have never been in the habit of publicly showing us anything that isn't -relatively- close to being done already. I already accounted for the idea that for the 8th anniversary celebrations it still may be almost 2 months (end of April) before the sci-fi pack goes live.

Seems like a reasonably long enough wait for a handful of costume items to me. *shrugs*

Actually it was the ending of the Spring Fling event and the announcement of the Double XP weekend that pretty much confirmed it for me that I22 was going to be launching right around now weeks ago. All of these things are scheduled together for a reason.

No it's not the "no blinking" that's going to make them all go blind. It's the contacts they have to wear with their official zombie uniforms that make's them blind to begin with.

For what it's worth they've apparenetly established that the zombies in this show have a pretty good sense of smell (for blood for instance). I'd guess they'd still be pretty dangerous even if we found out that they are mostly blind at this point.
  5. I don't have a quibble with the folks who earn their billions on the market only to buy stuff for their builds.
I don't even have a problem with the folks who like to horde 100s of billions just "because they can".

The people I don't quite understand are the "Crazy 88" types who like to earn countless billions for the express purpose of (as far as I can tell) bragging about how many of those billions they've burned through the Influence to Prestige conversion. Some of them even claim that they are on some kind of crusade to accumulate as much Influence as they can for the sole purpose of "removing" it from the general marketplace via their destructive efforts.

Unlike a real economy this game simply creates Influence via the actions of its players. There's absolutely no way you can "reduce" the total amount of something that's infinitely renewable. I couldn't really think of a more pointless activity if I tried - but then again like many other things people enjoy doing in this game maybe it doesn't really matter if there's a "point" to it in the long run.

Well if you look at all the various "Transporter" effects we've seen in all sorts of sci-fi over the years I doubt you could say it'd be unique to any one show or story. Heck even Star Trek has shown us dozens of versions of a transporter beam during that time.

Yeah I'd just mark it down as yet another "inconsistency" this show's made in order to jury-rig a dramatic moment. I can't imagine any good reason why a zombie would willingly leave a freshly-killed cow.

If this had been a "real" zombie encounter Dale would have just simply walked up to see the zombie chowing down on the cow and would have easily been able to pop it in the back of the head. Somehow we are supposed to believe the zombie left the half-eaten (not even quite dead) cow to be able to sneak up behind Dale.

Unfortunately there seems to a lot of scenes like this in this show where you just have to set your common sense aside and let things happen for the purposes of the story.

What I suggest is a numeric feedback that is only visible for you when you create or modify a character, which you can use in you bio if you want. For me, building character storylines is an important aspect of the gaming experience. And I prefer calculations before guesses. It can be something simple as displaying the vital stats of a character, or to calculate the impact energy when a robot made by hafnium (density 13.31) charge into something at his running speed (which is not hidden for me).

PS: While I'm used to metrics, I have no problems with feet/inches and pounds. I rather expect it, since height is described in feet, and so are the coordinates saved in demo files.
Having the game provide "hard numbers" is all fine and well. But you have to ask yourself what purpose does it serve. At least if this game used exact numbers for height then it would be easier to copy that value when creating new costumes.

But concerning the weight question I at first thought you wanted the game to provide you a weight value just to have a number to look at for RP purposes. But now as I re-read the posts in this thread it almost seems like you want a player-definable value that would somehow have some kind of in-game effect. It turns out "weight" is not actually a factor that this game uses for handling physics calculations. If it was, and especially if it was something players could manipulate, then you could rest-assured that everyone would set their characters to either be the heaviest (or lightest) the game would allow to take the most advantage of the system.

I agree it might be cool if this game took into account weight values for in-game physics. But since it doesn't I highly doubt it'll be worked into the system at this point. Once again I think it's far simpler to just come up with your own values for weight if it's an aspect of your characters that's important to you. The game can't "guess" what substances my characters are made of so why let it try in the first place?
  10. Notes about Dale: While I honestly didn't expect to see him to check out during last night's episode it almost made sense for him to get killed at this point. Of the entire group I think he always represented "the past", the time before the ZA when there was law and civilization. Clearly the group has been slipping away from that as more people die and the truth that things are never going to return to "normal" is finally driven home.

Dale, as a character, served his purpose. He made his point known to Shane, Rick and the others that the world as they knew it was over. In order to "prove" his point he really had no where to go character-wise other than to get killed in a senselessly sad way. His death verified that the world has in fact changed and that the group is broken. It'll be up to the others to pick up the pieces and recreate a new world that Dale could have never been a part of.

Notes about Carl: Opposite to Dale we have Carl who represents "the future". He's growing up in a world where things have literally become survival of the fittest. He's learning that individual human life is almost meaningless, where random friends or strangers can end up dying at any moment. He's now even learned (or at least feels guilty about) what it's like to let someone die due to his actions. I suspect Dale's death may be the tipping point that'll crush any last ideas about him just being a carefree innocent child.

Some may think that he'll turn into some kind of maladjusted sociopath, and if the world was still in pre-ZA mode that might be one way to summarize it. But I think that given the circumstances of the post-ZA world that he's learning exactly the kinds of harsh lessons he'll need to survive. He won't be able to afford the luxuries of second-guessing and compassion that got Dale killed (at least indirectly).

In a weird sort of way I see Dale's death almost akin to that classic scene when Luke Skywalker watched Obi Wan get killed by Darth Vader. It was a pivotal scene in Carl's life that'll galvanize him into becoming the kind of man he'll need to be in order to survive.

Notes about Randall: I'm fairly convinced that he's completely full of crap and a definite threat to the group. First off he didn't really seem that innocent when Daryl was beating him. Sure he was whimpering and begging Daryl to stop, but he was acting more like a captured enemy soldier rather than a purely innocent kid. He only told Daryl things -after- Daryl beat he more. If he was truly innocent/repentant he'd be telling Daryl everything instantly instead of trying to keep his mouth shut.

Also there was that scene where Carl snuck into barn and Randall was trying to get him to let him go so that he could "go back to his group". Why does Randall have so much loyalty to that other group which supposedly did all those evil things that he tried to claim he didn't do himself?

Let's just say if Randall actually ends up being an innocent kid that's true to his word then I'll be surprised at this point. I think Shane's assessment of Randall's threat is spot-on.

I'm a pretty active badge collector in this game. Next month I -should- be getting the 8th Anniversary badge but I suppose there's a good chance that I won't get it because of the problems they've been having.

Would it be annoying if that happens? Of course it would. But it's hardly going to -stop- me from otherwise enjoying the game. Sooner or later they'll sort that issue out and I'll have one more badge. It's not that big a deal either way. *shrugs*
  12. Add me to the group of players who wouldn't mind the game doing something better to give me the exact height of my characters but leave off doing anything about weight because that value is completely subjective.

Think of it this way: I can SEE the relative height of my character on the screen but I can't SEE how heavy my character might be due to any roleplay rationale I might be able to come up with. Therefore the game shouldn't bother to try to "guess" my weight for any reason. If a weight value is important to you then record it in your bio.

P.S. I noticed that Intussusceptor noted his "forum location" was Sweden. Like most of the rest of the world I suspect he's used to using the metric system for heights and weights. Ironically for him if this game started giving us calculated heights and weights it'd probably be in feet/inches and pounds. That would probably be almost as annoying to him as not having that info at all.

Right, but these exact details don't matter -that- much. Obviously I pulled the 200 number out of thin air.

The important point was that these franchises basically came up with "workarounds" for being able to have a whole bunch of inhabited planets all close enough to each other that they either didn't need FTL travel at all (in the case of Firefly) or they could get away with some sub-light ships that could travel between planets (like in BSG). Star Trek's "magical" solution to the problem was simply having warp drive to get to different solar systems all over the galaxy.

Different science-fictiony explainations for the same issue that had to be dealt with.

The problem is that your argument is based on a leap of logic to begin with.
Believing that buying these Super Packs is a form of gambling does not make it so.

I understand how you may not like how these Super Packs work but you've defended your dislike of them with a false equivalency.
Come up with a -valid- reason why these things are bad and I might be more willing to consider your position.

    "Fixed" that for ya.
I agree you can have a workable space sci-fi show without transporters. But Whedon solved his "no warp drive" conundrum by coming up with a single "solar system" that had something like 200 planets in it. While one could argue that warp drives are pure fantasy the idea that you can solve the technical problem of traveling galactic distances by just cramming a silly number of planets into one solar system is almost equally nonsensical from a realism point of view.

Don't get me wrong I like both Star Trek and Firefly. I'm just saying that as long as you're dealing with having to travel from planet to planet a sci-fi story is going to have to come up with some "semi-magical excuse" that allows it to be possible regardless.

Agreed. As always I would like to see NEW items with that effect and not necessarily -all- new items from now on. Ideally I would never want to see any current item removed/replaced by anything, ever.

So for example I wouldn't mind having two different versions of that "stripped cleavage" top - one "painted on" as it is now and a new one that stretched across the cleavage like the comicbook version.

(What brought me here, really, was the ridiculous setup of the female ID top. Not something you can tell from the screenshots. Boooo. Yes, I hope this is one of the things getting fixed - but I'm very disappointed. That's worse than "pretinting" like we have on Celestial. Guys - *stop rushing things.*)
I guess I just don't see this as "taking shortcuts" the same way you do.

The Devs decided to apply some updates to the costume set, but instead of adding those updates to the old Issue 21 build they decided to add them to the upcoming Issue 22 build. Seems like a straightforward software engineering decision to me, especially considering that Issue 22 will be live a mere 4 days from now. The fact that a new Issue was launching right now made this a fairly unique situation.

I'm sorry if this is upsetting to you, but frankly I think we'll all get through this time of crisis well enough. *shrugs*

I probably would not "presume" that unless someone has actually tested it.

Back when the RV method to get Isolator was first introduced it also introduced the first time a villain had the potential to earn a "hero only" badge. At the time the Devs were not too keen on the idea of people being able to earn cross-factional badges and they supposedly changed some code to make it uniquely impossible for redsiders to get Isolator that way. What that means is that there could still be some old code in there which would prevent redsiders from even earning credit for RV Isolator.

Isolator is easy enough now to earn in that blueside Ouro mission anyway - a redsider even -trying- to rack up RV Isolator credit is really only an exercise in masochism at this point.

In the last 8 years this game has had 21 (almost 22 now) major updates called Issues which have more or less eliminated the need to have older style disk-based expansions.

Yes we did get Going Rogue a couple of years ago, but I suspect the days of -any- game (not just this one) ever getting retail-based expansions again is probably over. It's simply so much cheaper and easier for companies to patch their games online anymore.

I have no doubt that this game will continue to add "new worlds and new powers" like it always has. I just doubt it'll ever use another retail disk based method to do it.

I understand -why- they set up the loyalty periods to work like they do. But I'm the type of player who's been paying annually for years and as of right now I have no intention of stopping that. So all the loyalty periods represent to me is a chance for something to randomly go wrong with my account (for whatever reason) and losing a badge because of it.
