That's strange - I don't think I've ever heard of them having "furry" qualities.
I've understood them to be more associated with "feathers" and other bird-like characteristics for decades now. *shrugs*

I've only done the trial once so far, so I didn't really notice which heroes we freed to get the badge, but this is basically a completely different list. It also goes against the "three powers" requirement in this version of the hint text. Do we know, for sure, which heroes/powers are required to earn this badge?

What the hint text is saying here: "defeat the Sentinel with the following three powers acquired from controlled heroes" is that the Sentinel is receiving power from those heroes and you need to leave those heroes captive. The team doesn't get powers by rescuing heroes; the Sentinel is getting power from them being captive.
I think this situation is made a little easier when you realize that the 4 heroes you want to rescue always seem to appear in the same four places on the map. I've run the trial 6 or 7 times now and I'm pretty sure the 4 we wanted were always in the same places regardless of exactly who was placed where during a given run.

Because you can't buy the annual vet badges it's still pretty easy to determine if a person just "bought" all their other badges or not.

Like Ironblade mentioned I've been reading that many people have been having problems with -any- of the annual vet badges, not just the 8th year one.

Just to be clear there is a difference between the Paragon Reward badges that you can buy and the annual badges that you can't. The ones you can buy seems to be working fine regardless - it's the annual ones after CoH:Freedom that are messed up.

Yes you can repeat any mayhem mission. But what's important to remember is that you can -outlevel- particular mayhem missions so if you're worried about the explore badges (like Mafia said) then you'll need to keep that in mind. Otherwise this is why many people "farm" the PI mayhem mission when they're level 50 because obviously a level 50 character can't "outlevel" level 50 content and you're guaranteed all the side missions at that point.

Now it's true that you can only earn the special temp power from each mayhem once. But that doesn't stop you running it again for the side missions.

Yes this "confusion" over vet status quite likely has something to do with it. In about a month or so I -should- be getting my 8th year anniversary badge, but I'm expecting to have the same problem with not getting it as everyone else has been having since CoH:Freedom launched. The longer they let this problem linger the more people it's going to affect.

That would drive me utterly insane!

I'm only on 1005 so not part of the club yet, but I can tell you I'm not going for all those Exploration badges again.
It's impressive to have that many badgers, but it's really not extremely hard to have a character with 1250-1300 badges now-a-days.

I would estimate that there's really only about maybe 40-50 badges in the game that are truly "hard" to obtain anymore. Many of the badges that used to be "hard" have now become almost trivial to get. And considering a large majority of them can be gotten solo I would say it'd probably take a dedicated person say roughly 4-6 weeks to get a new character up to the 1200+ range. One complication would be having to wait a long time for all the various Event and Day Job badges to open up - can't really do anything to speed those up.

Still, I'm satisfied with having just 3 or 4 serious badging characters - I wouldn't call having 16 "insane" as much as "overkill". I know the difference may be subtle but it's good enough for me.

As it turns out I think the "new" artwork for those Halloween clothes badges wasn't really new. I think what they did is "reassign" some previous artwork they had in the code that wasn't being used to those badges. Those skull badges were placeholders for earlier badges that never got added to the game.

Totally not important, but just jars on my sense of order like an out of reach itch
When the 'count' badges got a face-lift when Praetoria got added to the game they changed all the artworks to match except for Trailblazer. I really have no idea why they didn't bother to change Trailblazer to match all the others they changed. It is "odd" at best. Based on where it exists in the badge list (far separated from the other count badges) I almost think they might have forgotten about it, which sadly would not surprise me in the least. *shrugs*

The only other "odd" badge I can think of at the moment was the Rescuer badge which, like the Halloween clothes badges, existed in the game for a few years without its own unique artwork. To my knowledge they've never let any other badges go "artless" like that.

Well let's put it this way: I'm not currently breathing through a gas mask or wearing a biohazard suit because I expect a virus from Omicron Persei 8 to get me later today.

Still when/if we ever do find life from another planet and when/if we ever bring any of it back to Earth I'm reasonably sure they would probably study it under quarantine for literally years before they ever considered it "safe" enough to release into the general environment.

It's not only a question of how fast it would incubate but also how it would spread. If it was only transmitted by contact or blood then it might be possible to set up effective quarantine areas before everything went to heck. But if it was airborne and it got out for a few days to let airline passengers spread it around then it'd probably be relatively unstoppable.

Actually there was a sci-fi story (can't recall the name ATM) that focused on a nuclear submarine crew that ended up being the only people left alive because some mysterious disease wiped out everyone in just a few days but left them safe because they were deep underwater for many weeks. Obviously they lost contact with their base and had to figure out what had happened. They ended up travelling around the world for a few years looking for survivors and when they found none they decided to stop on some Pacific island and live out the rest of their lives there. I suppose that story could have easily had the disease be one that created zombies instead - might be cool to think there were subs still active like that in the Walking Dead story.

The last time these "highly sophisticated algorithms" nailed me was back when I was trying to finish off the "defeat 16 different nightmares" badge in the MoM iTrial. On this one particular alt I had gotten 15/16 after around 12 runs of that trial but it took me like an -additional- dozen runs just to get that last one.

I think over the course of the 8 year history of the game those store mannequins have been updated once or twice.
But they certainly don't update them in response to -every- new costume set.

It might be cool to see them updated more frequently but it's certainly not super critical.
  15. I always thought it was a little weird that in all of Praetoria they couldn't find a single building that could serve as an indoor tailor - even if it was just a literal cut-n-paste of a Primal Icon.

I don't consider this a high priority problem though. Just one of those things that would be "nice to have" sometime.

Actually this idea is -very- possible considering just how likely it is that there's at least microbial life floating around out there. Given what we've learned about places like Europa and Titan it's possible we may end up sending probes to these places that will come back with samples. And given how badly transplanted diseases have affected us in the past (like for example how the European explorers brought Small Pox to the New World) it's absolutely realistic an exo-virus could totally mess us up.

    1. Superbug created by some government gets out. (Think The Stand by Stephen King.)
    2. Virus mutation and/or combination.
    3. 1 & 2

A lot of the older movies used radiation/radioactive materials, an astronomical event (comet, etc.), or supernatural event. However, since we can pretty much rule these kinds of events out, are viruses really the only way this could happen?
I wouldn't say a virus would be the only way a scenario like this could possibly happen in real life, but it's probably the most "plausible" way if you're keeping an open mind about it.

There have been real life attempts to blame actual diseases (such as Porphyria) as being the causes of things like vampirism and lycanthropy. So it's at least semi-believable to think that there might be a mutated/isolated virsus scenario that could cause people to become violently mindless and have their bodies waste away in a zombie-like manner. I'm not sure you'd have a true "undead" thing happening in a supernatural sense, but diseases could mimic the appearance of the fictional idea behind undead-ness.

My variation on this is to just streetsweep for the first Tip, then once I start on it I'll just pretend that whatever Tips I'm running are "kill all" missions to get the rest of the Tips I need for the day. As soon as I've done two of them that way and have 3 more racked up I'll just speed through the remaining 3 Tip missions as fast as possible.

Doing it this way I practically never have to streetsweep for more than the first Tip of the day.

Yeah I heard about the "spoiler" about the Jenner whisper reveal a couple of days ago. It actually makes some sense that they would drop that bomb in a season-ending episode.

I suppose we'll just have to see how it's handled and what effect it might have for where the TV show will go next season.

Well at least you're good enough to admit it. I'll be the first to agree that the leprechaun in this game is probably a "lazy stereotype". But there's really far better things to be worried about both in this game and in real life in general. *shrugs*

Another reason I find an origin to be inconsequential, is that if this were to happen in the real world, you'd probably never find out what caused it. Look at the 1918 flue pandemic. There's still no established origin for it. Crazy s*** just happens sometimes, and you don't get to know why. I would imagine a zombie plague that wipes out almost all of civilization would provide even fewer answers.

So long story short, I find a lack of origin to be more realistic.
I'd agree that the -characters- never knowing how or why the zombies got started is a fairly realistic approach to the story. But since I'm not a character in the story I don't see why I can't know how it happened.

Again I'll cite The Animatrix as a perfect example of a way to tell the "origin story" of a franchise without actually involving the main characters in things they would have no way of knowing for themselves.

I -sort- of had to do this last night. On one of my alts I had saved the detective while running the real DA arc but like an idiot I forgot about clicking him in the later Dream Doctor arc to get the badge.

Luckily all I had to do is re-run the Dream Doctor's arc in Ouro to get to the mission where I had missed him and got the badge. Based on this I would think you could both arcs in Ouro to save him the first time -and- the second time for the badge.

TBH I've never bothered to try for that badge on anything less than a level 50 character because at that point you can be guaranteed to get the arson mission in the PI mayhem. It's still a bit tedious to have run multiple mayhems, but at least you know you won't waste any time not getting an arson side mission.

    Good luck regardless.
