*** Pseudo spoiler/speculation warning ***
So speaking of last night's The Talking Dead Kirkman dropped a very big hint that Merle will be making a reappearance in Season 3. Wouldn't it be interesting if he's going to be involved in the Governor's group or, to go to the extreme, wouldn't it be cool if he turns out to be the TV show's version of the Governor himself! -
Quote:I'm willing to accept the idea that the TV version of Lori was portrayed a little more "erratically" since Shane played a more significant role on the TV show.See, I don't remember disliking the comic book version of Lorainne at all.
Maybe it was because Shane died so early in the comic book, so there wasn't that opportunity for her to be all flippy-floppy like she is on the show. TV show Lori is just awful. You don't want Carl going out and killing zombified versions of your ex-lovers, how about you keep a %$@#ing eye on him once in a while?
Still she was somewhat annoying in the comic book because she suffered from the same "queen bee" complex that Andrea ripped her on a few TV episodes ago. Her narrowly-defined purpose in the comic was much the same as the TV show - neurotically worry when Rick left the group, neurotically worry when Carl was in any kind of danger and organize the rest of the women during any "domestic duty" details.
Basically apart from the increased interaction with Shane I think TV Lori has been one of the most direct translations from the comic book of any of the characters we've seen.
Quote:Loved seeing Michonne - I didn't expect her to show up until around the middle of next season. It's nice that her an Andrea will get a little one-on-one time, but I have no idea how they're ever going to hook up with the rest of the group. Running through the woods, Andrea probably made it 3-5 miles from the farm, but the group in the vehicles were driving for over an hour before they ran out of gas, so they could conceivably be anywhere from 30-60 miles away.
Though it's hard to tell because it took them until dawn to find each other on the highway, so once again, either the Earth in this universe rotates MUCH faster, or maybe their definition of an hour is far different from ours. Oh well, I guess that nit has been picked to death. It's going to be a long 7 months to wait for the show to return.
Actually it'll be interesting to see Andrea and Michonne together like that because I can foresee Michonne becoming a sort of "jedi master" to Andrea to finish her off her jedi training. We've already seen how Andrea has become more kick-butt as the TV show has progressed so it'd be the perfect pairing for Andrea to learn more "badassery" from Michonne. -
Quote:Just announced on Talking dead, the actress to play Michonne will be Danai Gurira.Quote:She seems to fit Michonne's physical type; hopefully she can bring across Michonne's personality as well.
She might have been OK for the part but I'm sure Danai Gurira will do well with it. -
Quote:The devs would either have to release tools or clearly state what format the want parts in, and give serious guidelines to wanna be submitters, such as file format (Rhino, Maya, what?) how big/small items would have to be for Male, Female, Huge body types, etc, etc.
Then there is the nightmare of clipping........
I think we can safely say no user submitted capes or possibly auras.Quote:It's a neat idea, but since they'd still have to do QA and touch up or adjust pieces, as well as simply sort through all the submissions, I'm not sure it would really save them any effort in the long run.
On the other hand there was, at least in the early years of the game, a fairly active community of modders that created a large number of costume mods. Admittedly most of those underground mods were either attempts to create things like Superman chest logos or nude female piece-parts.
Still I think if the Devs formalized a submission process and made it clear that any submission would be fully owned by Paragon Studios then they would probably motivate the community to produce and submit viable costume item candidates that they could eventually sell in the Paragon Market. Seems like the Devs could eventually make enough money from it to make it worthwhile. -
Sure I wouldn't mind having a specific "make all costume slots have the same scales" button. But I think the more general solution here would be to have the actual slider numbers directly visible in the costume editor GUI.
Yes you can kind of fake this out now with the .costume files, but as Hopeling implied that's an annoying workaround at best. If we had the actual numbers usable in the GUI then we could not only precisely control what our settings are costume slot to costume slot but we could also better duplicate settings across all costume slots or any characters. Having easily selectable scale numbers in the costume GUI would solve multiple problems at once. -
Well at least he was honest about it. Most of the time when Hollywood tries to make movies out of books they do their best to try to convince us that they are "being true" to the source material so that they can trick people into thinking we are getting perfect translations. Obviously translating books to movies is never going to be 100% perfect.

Quote:I'm not sure if this was a Freudian Slip or if you were intentionally making a play off his name but it was funny either way.She started to pull away as Rick explained everything but then she lost it when Rick mentioned Carl playing his part in finishing off Shame.
Quote:Eventually Lori needs to get over this, though. I mean, how long did she expect Carl to stay innocent in this? Was she going to keep him a kid forever? There are walking-freaking-undead!
Carl has been shot, seen his best friend turned into a zombie and then killed by his dad, seen one of his two dads get back up after being killed, and who knows what else before Rick linked up with the group. He's not a kid anymore, Lori! Stop pretending he is.
I realize as a mother she's worried about Carl and she probably has a right to be shocked by some things like learning that Carl put zombie-Shane down. But seriously she does need to get over this idea that he's -just- a little kid or that he can still somehow be kept "innocent" in this post-ZA world. Her inability to accept that Carl seems to be reasonably mature enough to handle most of what's going on has gotten incredible old and almost borderline insane at this point. I'm not suggesting that Carl should be considered a "man" now, but he's certainly not a baby anymore either. -

Quote:Well if you've been following my ongoing theory that this show has been dissecting the nature of leadership between Rick and Shane in a similar way the classic Star Trek epsiode The Enemy Within did then you can better understand what's happened here.I agree that he's right, you can't have a democracy in that situation. But the way he was speaking wasn't even slightly like Rick normally does. It was a speech and attitude straight out of Shane. Rick gets intense, he doesn't get all frothy like that.
Based on that working theory Rick has been demonstrating the "thoughtful, big picture" thinking a leader should have while Shane has represented the "gritty, implusively uncompromising" form of leadership. Basically the two of them each brought different leadership elements to the table but they were fighting each other because each of those forms of leadership tend to oppose/contradict each other. The moment Rick killed Shane the two competing "halves" of leadership were finally merged into Rick. I suspect Rick will now be more "Shane-like" able to do the brutal things that need to be done but will be tempered by his original innate sense of control and morality. The two forms of leadership are now in the one man better able to face the post-ZA world. -
Quote:By the way, if a zombie infestation ever breaks out, I want Herschel's gun. What was that, 50 shots from a shotgun? Yes, please.Quote:He did reload a couple times, but still. Federal law limits the amount of shots that can be in a pump-action. Think they're made to only hold like 5 in the reservoir and 1 in the chamber. Plus, if you get fire shooting back out of the ejector, you got serious problems with your gun.Quote:I did admire the gunplay in this episode though. Everybody made the experts from top shot look like rank amateurs.
Firing rapid fire in darkness? Every shot a headshot.
Firing from a fast moving bouncing vehicle? Every shot a headshot.
Firing backwards while running at a sprint? Every... well, you get the point.
Yes at least this show has tried to show a few people (like Hershel and Andrea) dealing with checking/reloading their guns, but most shows don't even bother to do that much. They'll just let people shoot 1000 rounds or more without even pretending to reload. At this point it now almost shocks me when a show actually -tries- to get it right like Hell on Wheels did recently.
I won't even bother to worry about their unearthly accuracy. Again like the ammo thing most shows just let any main character basically never miss when the story needs them to kill everything. -
Quote:After mentioning it the other day I actually tried it last night and it worked reasonably well. I just left him sort of in the middle of that "courtyard" area on the west side of that tall building where those timed MOBs show up.That part I'm not worried about. Where do I leave him exactly?
As soon as the timer started I just hopped back over to him and I noticed that he was starting to attack the guys who had appeared around him. He probably defeated at least a few of the guys on his own and maybe saved me 10-15 seconds worth of fighting so it was better than nothing. -

Quote:No, your car analogy is completely wrong here. The dealership in this case is not charging you extra for anything the car actually NEEDS to operate as a fully functional car. A more accurate analogy here is that you're buying a car and the dealership is offering to sell you OPTIONAL racing strips, tinted windows and satellite radio. You don't NEED any of those things to drive the car.No.
This would be the sort of thing that would make me leave again, and warn others against getting involved with the game.
It would be like a dealership selling you a car, then charging you an extra $3000 for the steering wheel, rear window and one of the wheels (rim, tire and all.) The work itself isn't finished, IMHO. It's something that nobody should have to pay for.
I absolutely understand that as players we generally don't want to have to pay anything extra for anything that we could otherwise get for free - I get that. But trying to express this position in terms of how it would "ruin the game" or make it "impossible to play" are laughably ridiculous.
If the Devs offer something us something OPTIONAL to buy then we always have the CHOICE to decide if we want to pay for it or not. Even if you choose not to buy something like this that can't possibly ruin your -current- gaming experience in the least. I've been playing this game for almost 8 years now and if the Devs magically offered us new Power Customizations tomorrow that we'd have to pay for in the Paragon Market I could very easily continue to play the same game I've enjoyed for years even if I refused to buy them.
I just wish people would get over their misguided entitlement mindset and either just pay or don't pay for things without trying to paint the company as some kind of axis of evil just because they want to earn extra money. *shrugs* -
Quote:Yeah... well the S.W.A.T. captain calling the ATV a "car" is a little weird all things considered. But you do realize that when the bad guy says "the police have themselves an RV!" that he's saying it in a mockingly sarcastic way right? He's not literally saying the police are driving a civilian Recreational Vehicle - he's making fun of the fact that the police are using an "overblown massive vehicle" to assault the building. It was pretty obvious that he was using the term "RV" in a derisively joking manner and frankly that made it one of the more memorable quotes from the movie. This is kind of a tangent and more towards movies making technical blunders than anything else.
I love the first Die Hard movie and will watch it when it comes on all the time but there is one scene that just bugs me to no end. When the police storm the building unsuccessfully and get shot up. They send there armored ATV in (which the S.W.A.T. captain calls a car, ugh), when the nerd breaking into the vault see's it on the security camera's he announces over the radio "listen up guys, the police have themselves an RV!"
I keep expecting Robin Williams to lean out the window and start waving to the camera. -
I don't recall seeing scheduled "daily checks" during any other 2XP weekend. That's probably why they're doing something this morning to minimize the chance they'll have to do anything else during the rest of the "prime time" of the weekend.
-
I have no real doubt about that - this is the Internet after all.
Still, criticizing something in a movie that also exists in real life is always going to be a little more reasonable than arguing about which version of "make-believe" is better than the rest. -

Quote:The unexpected server problems we saw a few days ago happens very, very rarely with this game. I've played here fairly regularly for almost 8 years now and I think I've seen "unexpected" downtime like that only happen like maybe 3 or 4 times tops.So it's just today? Or is it everyday during double exp? Also, it seems at least one of the servers already went down earlier today (though without warning) ...

I wouldn't read too much into what's happening today. *shrugs* -
Quote:Three quick comments:If this woman can hit her targets without using "perfect archery form" the author was nitpicking about
Then Hawkeye can shoot any way he likes.
1) Wouldn't it be interesting if CoH gave us this as an option for archery power customization?
2) Do I even have to ask where this woman keeps her quiver of arrows?
3) That tall white building behind her is the Burj Al Arab so we know this happened in Dubai, for whatever that's worth. -
Espeically considering Kheldarn just reported that there's a new patch on beta right now.

Quote:Gotta love the logic of people happily accepting living Norse Gods, amazing technical armour beyond modern capabilities, a guy who was frozen in ice for 50 odd years and a man who turns in to a massive green guy when he's annoyed about something.....but that man with the bow and arrow? He's doing it wrong!!
Love itQuote:To be fair, as said in the OP, the author discussed Hunger Games and Brave BEFORE talking about the Avengers, and said how the form on those was probably beyond the call of duty.
So talking about a movie that goes in the other direction isn't really all that bad.
If there was someone out there who was nitpicking that the Hulk's skin color is not the right shade of green then I think you'd have cause to call that kind of criticism ridiculous. -
Yeah in systems that are pushing the limits all you need is a few degrees of extra temperature or a few watts of power fluctuation to spell the difference between working and not working.
The Nvidia 9800GT was a good card but it's certainly not the newest card out there and if you're trying to get it to handle Ultra mode on two displays you've probably been red-lining it all along. You might be lucky that you got 6 months of use out of it at that level of system stress.
Not really sure there's much you can do other than maybe throw more cooling on it to keep it going. The obvious solution of course is to upgrade your system, but of course that depends on whether you can (or want) to spend the money on it. -
Quote:The Dev's mentioned in yesterday's coffee talk that Shards are being phased out entirely. Was more of a stop gap measure put in place to kick off the system. Threads will be the mainstay currency from here on out.Quote:Well, of course they're phasing out shards. Shards are about all I've used so far and I'm now working on my t3 Alpha. Threads would have taken twice as long, easily.
I have everything I need except the one rare component for my t3. And for that I need 4 uncommons, which need 60 threads each. Of course they're phasing out shards.
Based on this I suspect that threads will become much more common than they are now. It'll likely be easy to rack up hundreds (or even thousands) of threads becuase you'll actually need that many to buy the top tiers of the new powers. In that environment using threads to craft Alpha powers will become almost trivial. -
Quote:I pretty much always assume that Hollywood will always mess up something when it comes to showing martial arts and/or weapons usage. Sometimes I can sort of ignore it if they don't make a big deal out of it to begin with. Also, all we've really seen so far is the one shot of him looking like he's about to fire while falling backwards out of a window. Sometimes you just gotta shoot from the hip.
I figure as long as they don't focus on Hawkeye doing something stupid with the bow every 30 seconds I'll be able to give it a pass.
