Quote:It's funny but you'd think that if they wanted to encourage people to actually stay subscribed during this period that they'd be motivated to show us everything we'd get to, you know, get us excited about it or something.Remember when we got a full blown trailer and desktop for the last loyalty program?
I wouldn't mind if we at least got some in game images of the stuff we're getting before it comes out.
What other kind of business can get away with telling its customers "we'll give you something if stay with us for a time but we aren't going to show you exactly what you'll get until after the period is over." Just seems weird to me somehow. *shrugs* -
Quote:Yes. Now that have to roll new toon, run 2 DFBs, buy converters, pick up enhancements emailed from other toon, convert them, email them back, delete new toon, repeat.Quote:I think 2 runs with those DfB babies is punishment enough, don't cha think?

Quote:Yeah there are a few things still left in that boat. But to be honest I was actually talking about all the Vet Award stuff that used to be exclusive but now you can simply pay for if you want it all instantly. When you add Vet Awards to the list of all the other things that have been "de-exclusivified" then you might better understand what I was getting at.Basically, it comes down to what Lothic said, although there are a half-dozen or so items in the same boat -- Slide is hardly the only exclusive item not currently available on the market. The Arachnos cape, an alternate Arachnos chest emblem, the Cape of the Four Winds, the Seven Stars chest insignia, and the Wisps aura are also unavailable, off the top of my head, and soon we'll probably be able to add every item in the Salute to Statesman loyalty pack to that list.
-
Despite the fact that virtually everything else in the game that used to be "exclusive" is now available via other means the Prestige Power Slide will likely remain exclusive for the time being. According to rumor there is a particular Dev who thinks that the power should remain exclusive forever. Why it needs to stay that way when virtually nothing else has I have no idea. As long as that particular Dev stands in the way it's apparently never going to be released.
I have the power and use it once in a while on a lark. From my point of view it wouldn't upset me in the least if the Devs decided to start selling it in the Paragon Market so that other people could enjoy it. *shrugs* -

Quote:There is the Bug Hunter badge, but the bug you're describing would hardly qualify for it.Heehee yeah apparently during the SSA 7 mission 3 the mission broke and a gm had to autocomplete it for me, so since I broke the game, can I have a badge for that???
O.O what I thought this game had a badge for almost everything.
The kinds of things they reserve Bug Hunter for are things that can repeatedly crash a server or serious exploits that would let you earn billions of INF instantly or let you level from 1 to 50 by just clicking a contact dialog button a few times. All of these things have been the real life basis behind some people getting Bug Hunter awarded. -
Quote:Doesn't surprise me. It's Michael Bay that we're talking about.Quote:It could be worse, Bay could be doing the new Three Stooges movie, or he could get permission from Tsubayara Productions to do an Ultraman movie.....
Bay seems set to molest any franchise he can get his hands on. -
Right because as we all know the details and characteristics of "zombism" is clearly established scientific fact. Sure news reporters love to make leaps of logic in order to generate sensational headlines. But let's not be too critical of them, especially in this case.
And while I'd agree that known diseases like Rabies and Influenza should probably be more worrisome to us than a "zombie virus" I don't think it's totally impossible to think that there could be a new disease mutation out there that could cause people to mimic many of the "classic" behaviors of movie zombies. It's not exactly like a "real" life zombie (or even a pandemic of such a new illness) would have to act/react 100% identical to a movie zombie in the first place. -

Quote:For what it's worth I think there's probably more of a chance of getting some form of global storage like this than there is of getting further tweaks on the aging, convoluted email system. The easiest way to do this would be to expand the current character vaults to be common to all the characters of an account. Extra space could be bought in increments from the Paragon Market.Interesting and lively discussion.
Here is what I advocate for: Account wide storage. I will even pay (*some) paragon points for the Privilege. I think a minimum acceptable amount for "1st tier" would be 50 enhancers, 200 Salvage, 2 Billion Inf
"2nd Tier" of paragon bought account wide salvage:+ 30 special salvage this would solve the Catalysts and new I/O switching Salvage.
"3rd Tier" +30 Incarnate Salvage storage. I have deleted many 50s with VR, rares, etc. Would have been nice to strip it all. I really love to use the whole buffalo. -

Quote:The fact that every system is exploitable does not justify the removal of safeguards and never will. Just because gun control laws don't stop ALL gun related crime does not prove that we would all be better off with NO gun control laws. As an "honest" folk myself I'm willing to live in a game with -some- controls if it means the vast majority of spam is mitigated, which it is.Actually, my original position was that EVERY system is exploitable. Somebody always finds a way, so you may as well not make it too hard on the honest folks.
Quote:I think it's pretty obviously a good idea that they should have done in the first place, but they probably thought "it's good enough, they can deal with it".
If you choose to see that as some kind of "failure" on the Devs' part then that's up to you. *shrugs* -
The Devs, for whatever reason, seem to be having a hard time getting around to the idea of letting us -rename- SGs let alone moving entire SGs from one server to another. I figure if we ever get the baby step of SG rename tokens then there might ('might' mind you) be a chance to move entire SGs from one server to another.
When you think about it they would have to have an easy way to rename SGs anyway on the off-chance a SG with your SG's name already existed on the new server (the same way character names have to be dealt with when they are transferred). -
Quote:You are clearly making the assumption that there would be no way to exploit what you are talking about and even if you couldn't exploit it that it would be trivial to do what you want to begin with.where did I say "remove all"?
I'm just asking for "same account to same account"(like my main to my alt) to be made easier. That wouldn't be exploitable by RMTers as they still have to get it to a different account.
That is where the developers went wrong. They screwed the honest safe trades within the same account to try to stop account to account transfers.
Why didn't they put in the effort to make the system check if the receiving global handle was the same as the sender?
Dumb poor design as usual.
Unless you are a Dev I will reserve judgment on what you deem "necessary" in terms of anti-spam considerations for this game. For what it's worth I practically NEVER bump up against these limits in my day-to-day playing of this game. I'm quite sure they annoy the heck out of some people, but they are hardly the annoyance for most people you are trying to make them out to be here.
A "dumb poor design" that only negatively affects a few players is like a tree falling in the forest - if most people aren't around to hear it is it really -that- much of a problem? -

Quote:Uh, you are aware there's actually a difference between movies/games and real life don't you? Sure the "fictional idea" of these kind of zombies may be nothing new, but the fact that we can apply that fictional idea to something in real life does seem vaguely noteworthy to me.Things like 28 Days Later, Zombieland, and Left 4 Dead have shown that a zombie apocalypse can happen via a disease infecting victims and making them into mindless monsters. So it's not like that kind of apocalypse is anything new. Plus, to be honest, those types of zombies are way more believable and threatening than the slow walking undead types.

I don't have any problem with this game getting more power pools. But the main advantage of having more temp powers available is that I could pick and choose which ones I wanted to customize my characters with without having to do any respecs to change my mind or being locked into narrowly defined subsets of powers.

Quote:The key point is that this game has never really been completely "anti-spam feature" free. The Devs have -always- done their best to keep spamming to a minimum. At least some of the restrictions on e-mail have existed since before you could e-mail money or items, I think.
Back then, e-mail was used primarily by RMTers to spam you with e-mails about their services. That was before you could turn off or limit who could e-mail you too.
Now one could certainly argue that the addition of newer anti-spam features over the years has made things somewhat more annoying for some legitimate uses and I would certainly like to live in a world where I didn't have to suffer living within any kinds of limits regardless. Sadly none of us live in that kind of paradise. In the real world we have to accept a certain measure of control and restriction in order to rid ourselves of the vast majority of the RMTer menace.
I tend to think that people like T_Immortalus don't seem to appreciate just how bad things would actually be if all the anti-spam features of this game were suddenly removed. It would be an absolute nightmare. -
Quote:Last time I checked this was not something we could vote about one way or the other.Seriously, the limits, like a "do not disturb" sign or a simple lock on a rickety old door, only stop the honest and courteous.
The only way to stop spammers is to make it impossible for them to make a profit, by either making it impossible to trade anything from one account to another or making everything so quickly obtainable, and easy by extension, that they can't get customers.
Of course, the ideal solution would be "getting people to stop paying them", but people are not always knowledgeable, smart and/or wary so they keep doing it. Many just care little enough for money that they will throw it at something they can lose completely when they are caught, even suffering punishment.
So, shall we limit the honest people while the dishonest keep going on as usual, destroy the ability to trade or change every person in the world to be honest, smarter and wiser?
Or, shall we lessen the limits on the honest people, police the dishonest(catching them with records and banning them) and try to find a new way to stop the problem without creating a new problem for honest people?
I vote for the latter.
Obviously the current system in this game does not absolutely prevent anyone who wants to spam email for RMT purposes from doing so. There is no system on the planet that could prevent every abuse like this as long as there's any chance for money to be made - why do you think the constant war between the virus-makers and anti-virus companies is a thriving multi-billion dollar fact of life?
Sadly there is no real way to make things easier for the "honest" people of this game without opening the flood gates to the RMTers. The goal of the Devs has NEVER been to try to stop ALL spamming activities because that's a literal impossibility. Their goal instead is to make things just hard enough for the RMTers to operate so that their negative effects on this game are kept to a bare minimum. That obviously has to be balanced against doing their best to keep their anti-spam measures from impacting the "honest" people as little as possible. I happen to think they are doing a relatively good job balancing those two concerns here.
Sure it would be nice and ideal if people would just collectively "behave" and stop paying RMTers. It would also be nice if the GMs of this game could just silently "police" all the RMTers out of the game without the need for any limits that get in the way of legitimate activities. But these are both pipe-dreams that will never happen in a real MMO like this.
There will always be a need for proactive measure to prevent excesses and exploits. Now obviously there are ways that the Devs of this game can do their job better and I'm not suggesting that this game's anti-spam features are perfect. But their imperfection is NO justification for removing them completely. I would always rather this game have -some- control over spam, even if it occasionally annoys me from time-to-time, than to have NO control over it at all. -
Quote:Yeah at this point like Death and Taxes I think we're guaranteed to get a trilogy of movies out of this, at the very least.Minor note, the film made more money over the weekend than any other Lionsgate film made over their entire run.

Quote:This game got sued by Marvel a few years ago based on costuming issues.
No reason why this game couldn't be sued again. *shrugs*Quote:Do you remember how the lawsuit turned out? Marvel lost.
NCsoft is not going to be sued again and certainly not for something as inconsequential as having a skullcap option that can combine with a translucent space helmet.Quote:Actually it was over costume + naming issues to be more precises... costume pieces where never removed you can still make a guy that looks incredibly like wolverine you just can't name him wolverine.
They also resolved that issue with the makers of CoH Agreeing to police people, if you are caught making a character that violates copyright your name is changed to generic and you have to rename it (not sure if there is more action for further violation)
So really if they come back to us and say we can't have the scifi hood with the the bubble cause of fear of buzz light year copy rights I will call BS since they took care of it and further more not allowing the hood under the helm won't stop people from making one if they REALLY want to...
I'm honestly not sitting here losing sleep that this game is about to be sued again. On the other hand it's not exactly smart to give third parties (we are talking Pixar/Disney afterall) too much easy ammunition to try it again either. -
Quote:Yeah the drop rates could be reduced to make them a bit more "special" and less annoying. But I think my idea of getting a larger number of newer powers would help too. If you could get a drop that chooses from a larger, more random table of choices then each time you got one might actually be more cool and exciting. The idea is fun, the execution is, ah, less so.
First, drop rates are waaaay to high- who's ever been excited to get a temp power drop? It's always "Ohboy, wonder what that.....UGH, another lame temp power!"
Second, the annoyance factor is higher than it should be given the weak/situational utility of the powers. The payoff for gathering ingredients and crafting the recipe is minimal.
I'd like to see them balanced either by making the powers better & thus worth the annoyance, or made much rarer. I hate 'rare' drops that are nothing but inventory cloggers, and the concept of temp power drops is so cool the lame reality annoys me all the more.
It's kinda like wing drops back in the day- when they were super rare everyone wanted them and they were exciting, after the rates were supercharged they were junk and may as well have just been available at the tailor. -
Quote:Exactly. I'm not even asking for them to come up with a huge number of "unique" powers. They could probably use the same code "numbers" and animations the Revolver uses now but come up with like 6 or 8 new skins for it so that it could look like a cowboy's six-shooter, a Colt 45 or a Glock. But unless the drop system is coded in a really, really, really bad manner, adding different flavors of revolver shouldn't be difficult, even if they were just using different models. I have a few characters would would love to have a Revolver which looks like a ray gun, even if it still went BANG and kicked.
Again I just think the Devs have wasted an easy opportunity to come up with a whole slew of extra options here. -
What bothers me more than the few powers we have now is that this area of content really hasn't been significantly added to since it was first introduced. I understand that the first batch of powers we got would be sort of a generic "proof of concept" to make sure we could actually craft the powers. But seriously that was how many years ago now? At this point we really ought to have like 100 or more craftable powers, not just the same dozen or so we started with.
For instance we have the one Revolver power. Sure that's fine as a generic "hand gun" power, but why is it that we don't have like 15 or 20 different kinds of "craftable firearms" of all shapes and sizes by now? Theoretically we should be able to run character with only temp powers if we really wanted to - that would allow us to totally customize our characters in so many ways. I'm not asking for more powerful powers, I'm just asking for a huge selection of temp powers.
It almost seems dumb to have the ability to craft temp powers and only have a few to choose from. If anything the Devs ought to be adding at least a few new ones with every Issue update. I think the Devs really missed out on the opportunity to give us more easy to create content in this area. -
I think the storage situation also simply "evolved" over time and I doubt they ever really intended for people to move large amounts of items anywhere via any method.
I know other games have implemented "global storage space" that allows their characters to more easily transfer stuff between characters. This game has always taken the position that "characters are individuals" and has only allowed things to be transferred between them as a reluctant afterthought.
There are probably many things about this game like this that could use a "total redesign" from scratch. Maybe CoH2 will provide for these things someday.
